Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Still a bit dark out, but expecting a high of close to 80. Happy Fall!!!!
Pinky, isn't this weather nice? Talking to my sister, I did agree with her though, 80 seems a bit warm for now, would prefer 65-70. About the smoke, one of our weather men was saying yesterday, as long as there are fires, we will see the haze, and the smoke has even gotten to Europe. Unreal! How nice to have your DGC around. I have not had any grand kids over in I don't remember when they were here. Now with one of my DD's is going about her life as normal as we used to be, I guess I won't be seeing those DGC's for a long while. Good to hear your DS and DBIL are feeling better!!! No, DH has not gone hunting yet, he is just not feeling up to walking in the woods. He has good intentions, but his body is failing him. I just know something is going on, I wish his colonoscopy could be moved up.
Gareth, I do feel bad that we are not going with her, but I need to take care of us. My DD1 has predicted that DD2 will end up sick from going there Saturday. I am going to call her tonight, to mention exactly why we are not going tomorrow. I will have to be delicate about it, as I do not want to start a feud. I really believe her and her DH are Trump fans, so I don't want to pick a fight. Good luck to your friend, I am hoping Mayo can help her. How did your appointment go yesterday?
Marsha, about your comment about having a weird Rosh Hashana, I heard on one of my I heart radio stations yesterday, that this year the kids have to schedule a Zoom meeting with Santa, because there will be no going to see Santa, to tell him what they want for Christmas, so add that to the weirdness! Yes, DD did mention that the event was outside so she seemed to think that it was ok. DH backed her up as we went to the Moose Lodge on Friday night, but to me that is a bit different, as all the employees were masked, we all had masks on till we sat down with just our little group, and social distanced the other people. And the place was not full by any stretch of the imagination. When we walked in, we went right to a table that was big enought for our little group and stayed there till it was time to eat, then walked far away from anyone to get to our table. I felt comfortable there. I could see by her videos, that nobody, not even the employees, had masks on, and people were walking close to the other people there. I believe that in order to get a handle on the out of control virus, the Governor should close the bars, for an extended period of time. Then also, go back to carry out for any food those bars make. Sorry I got so long!!
Robin, I too would love to see a new picture of Maddie, I bet she has changed a lot already. I am surprised you liked the farm salmon better. We will not buy anything that is farm raised. And if I am buying salmon, along with buying wild, I am happy to pay the price. I say, if you have the space, get a crib. You know, most likely you will get use out of it, with future grand kids.
Carol, we had a pack and play in our family, and they are just fine. True, as Robin says, there is more bending over with those, but they are nice, if you do not have a lot of room, to be able to fold up, and stash. How is Texas doing with the virus? I have not heard anything about your state, in a while, so it must be doing better. Wisconsin is doing horrible.
Anngie, lol, I do not understand the naming of the hurricanes, as there are so many names out there, what is their problem? I too am glad we are not going, and I am happy DH did not fight me on this....I can tell he is not feel the best, or he would. He told me last night that he has been feeling dizzy. I think that is part of the signs of the bleeding. I have seen that Mayor on TV, and did not get good feelings from her. I wouldn't be surprised if she is not reelected, when that time comes. I did not know that Bed, Bath and Beyond were part of the The Christmas Tree Shops, as I think that closed in a small town close to us. They had a huge warehouse sale, I think it was last week. I would have been there in a minute, if we were till in the house.
I have given up on my dream of going up to Minocqua for leaf peeping. We just can't work around the appointments we have for the next few weeks, so by the time we could really get up there, the colors would be past peak. We are having some good color going on here, already, so I will have to be happy with that.
We mailed in our ballots yesterday, so we are done with our voting.
Have a nice day everyone.

Karen, sorry there is that tension between you and DD, that you have to tip toe around what needs to be said. I hope that she ends up being OK. Sorry to hear your DH is still having difficulty. When is his colonoscopy again? My DH is having one on Thursday morning. Not happy that I will have to get up so early to drive him. Now I need to schedule mine.
As far as having a crib in my house, we never use our younger DS's room, so for now, it is fine having a crib in there, I don't really care. We don't have anyone stay over, other than our kids, once in a blue moon, and if I ever do have someone, they stay in the other bedroom.
It is definitely cooler here, but in the high 60's, and going back up into the high 70's tomorrow. Not thrilled with that because it means the AC has to go back on. I haven't noticed leaves changing yet, but we really don't start changing until October. It does look beautiful here when they change, my favorite time of year.
Played mah jongg last night. My one DF who is taking her DH for radiation is almost done. It is really exhausting both of them. Another DF who is Israeli, and still have a DB there, with children, was playing with us a few weeks ago when she got a text that her nephew was in a motorbike accident and was in intensive care. Yesterday she told us that although they were still keeping him a coma, he was showing signs of responding to commands, so they were very happy. I had some good hands, including one where I was able to take all the exposed jokers and use them to mah jongg. Not that it means anything to you, but when someone calls a tile and uses jokers, anyone can take them if they have that tile, or pick it, when it is their turn. I had a turn where I both had 1 tile to exchange, and picked another tile to exchange, so got 2 jokers in one turn. That kind of thing rarely happens, but you always hope for it.

Karen, the woman at Mayo is DH's friend's DW. I've never met her. The last I heard she's not good. She was a nurse at one of the hospitals here so I'm assuming maybe that's where she got it.
Robin, echoing what others have said I'd love to see a picture of Maddie! Babies change so fast.
Beautiful first day of Fall. Going to be in the 80's later. I've had a short walk and will have a longer walk when DH gets home. I was very pleased with my new PCP yesterday. I really liked both her and her nurse. My BP is normal and everything else checked out great. I was really relieved about my BP so I know that wasn't the cause of my eye problem so that just leaves my age and glaucoma as the cause. I'm almost finished with Little Whispers so I can start Jodi Picoult's new book that just came out today. DH just walked in the door so gotta go....

DD was hoping to keep her apartment next year so we wouldn't have to do that move again but none of her roommates want to stay. She had another friend lined up to move in but now that the other friend finally asked the rent she said too much, so now they are looking for a less expensive place for next year. (And dd told us she had to spend this much to have a decent place - can you see I want to strangle her?) and they want to be closer to the engineering building. Not happy about this. DH is going to have a fit and will probably say he won't help. I told dd she still has to find a security building and I don't want her in a house because I hear a lot of stories about houses being broken into, especially houses that are all girls.
Not much else to report. the warm weather is giving the garden a bit more life but I think the best I will get is a few more tomatoes. I should pull out everything else.
Karen - I hope that the conversation with dd goes smoothly. Good luck.
Robin - so sad about your friend's nephew. I hope he continues to improve.
Dinner last night portabella fajitas and weight is starting to edge back down. Tonight is supposed to be homemade pizza loaded with veggies but I have a haircut so if I make pizza dinner will be late. I have a crust recipe that only requires 30 minutes to rise so maybe it won't be too bad.

Karen, you are supposed to be warmer than north Texas today. We've had rain and it is still cloudy, but only 67 right now.
Honestly, I don't know what Texas's covid numbers are. Our county's are still low, I think. They have changed the way they count them again. I went to the Bible study this morning. Only 2 of us wore masks inside. The other woman wearing one is my age. There is one woman a few years older and one a few years younger and I was surprised they didn't have one on especially since one of them had a medical condition and one has a grandchild who has a severe medical condition. Maybe they think since we are sitting apart so it is okay. I also went to Aldi. It was not crowded at all and everyone had masks on.
My senior year of college, I lived in a house off campus with 7 other girls. We didn't have anyone break in, but I think we were just lucky. We were very lax about locking the door. The next year someone did break in.

Karen, I will bet that you are sorry you posted on Facebook about the rise in cases in Wisconsin. I hope you don't mind that I posted to support you. As far as posting pics of Maddie, DS doesn't like when I post them, for some reason, but when they post it is OK, and one of the times they tagged me, so it would come up.
Marsha, I can only imagine how frustrated you are with DD. This is very typical of girls though, that they change roommates all the time.
I went to a small private college in upstate NY, and everyone really lived in the dorms. Most of us had single rooms though from the time we were freshman. The 1st year it was a hall with 2 doubles and 4 singles, with a lounge on the end of the hall. The other years it was a suite that was like a kitchen, I am thinking there might have been 4 or 5 singles in it, but I could be wrong. The good thing about the school now, besides the fact that I am proud to say that US News and World Report now has it ranked tied for #9 of independent liberal arts colleges, there has not been a single case of coronovirus in a student, and only 1 faculty member, since this all started.
Carol, hope everyone in Texas stays safe. These people should be wearing masks indoors, no matter how far apart they are. Otherwise this craziness will not stop. I check the numbers of positive cases in the states all the time, only because NY was so high, then 3 other states just blew right past us, so can tell you that so far Texas has had about 745,000 positive cases, NY is at 455,000 to give you an idea. Since I think it was June or July when those 3 other states started increasing so much, NY was at 425,000. So we added 30,000, while the other more than doubled in numbers. Maybe if people would start looking at statistics instead of listening to fake news that must be saying that it is just going to go away, this would not have happened.

DD really does not want to move either, but none of her 3 roommates want to stay, they will all go their separate ways after 2 years. And she doesn't want to live with strangers so since the one friend who she talked to about living together doesn't want to pay that rent they will have to look elsewhere. The only way they might stay is if the roommate shares a room, which she might because she is sharing one now, and that would mean they would put 5 girls in that 4 bedroom which would be fine, but it is unlikely that it will work out that way. I lived in a house one year in college. We didn't worry so much about break ins back then. All the same, there were 4 guys and 2 girls in the house. The guys had the bedrooms on the 2nd floor and the other girl and I had the 2 bedrooms in the converted attic. It worked out fine like that. DD said she won't live in a house unless there are guys there too, but all the same she likes her creature comforts like a/c so I don't think she'd be happy in an old house.

It is 88 degrees today and really quite hot out. Will be like this several more days and the highs are in the 60's.
Karen---I would be concerned about your DH too, but you know what they say---don't worry until you have you. Easier said than done. Sorry about your plans to go to Minocqua but I'm guessing its the right thing to do with all that is going on. Hope all goes will with DD.
Karen---Our trees have really changed the last couple of days, they are just beautiful right now.
Gareth--glad you liked your new PCP and that you got A+ in all your labwork, always good to hear. Have you had more that one injection in your eye?
Marsha---Hope things work out for DD so she doesn't have to move again. Maybe things will work out that more girls will be interested in the apartment she is in.
Carol---is it hotter here in SD that TX right now?? What the heck is that all about.
Anngie---When I made my appt. for next weeks therapy its on October 2----not really that far away anymore.
I did have therapy this morning and also took DMIL along as she had an appt. at about the same time. That worked out well. We stopped and bought some groceries afterwards and then went to a produce stand 8 miles away where we got some squash, watermelons, cantaloupe, and pumpkins. She enjoyed the outing on such a beautiful day.
