Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. The warm spell continues, today it is expected to get to 80. After the weekend we will go back to normal temps.
Robin, DH colonoscopy is Oct 6th. Good luck to your DH tomorrow. Thank you for posting on my post. I knew when I shared that statement from one of our news stations that I would probably get picked on, I just ignore it. The thing that irritated me was what my DSIL said. I took that as sort of a slap in the face. So that is why I decided not to say anything to DD. I can just tell now, what "side" they are on. So in order to keep peace in the family, I will say nothing more, but will go about my life the way I feel I should, and it will most likely exclude them, and my grand kids.
Gareth, you might not get any more updates about how that woman is doing, what with HIPPA and being at Mayo. Unless your DH is very close to the husband. It got to 78 here yesterday, and expected 80 today, and I have to say, I am so done with these warm temps. I would love typical fall temps, but there is nothing typical about this year, is there? Great job at your new PCP! I want to loose another 10 pounds before my annual exam in December. I can't believe how close that seems to be! I heard yesterday that the talk now is how parents are signing up for a zoom Santa visit for their kids, as that is how the kids are going to be seeing Santa this year!
Marsha, I am sorry for your DD! She sure can't have a quiet school year, can she? Now she has to worry about moving ahead of next school year, which of course affects you. Did you tell DH yet, or are you going to wait awhile? At least with the work you have in your garden, it has been dry. I did hear we are supposed to get rain tomorrow. The weekend is going to start bringing in cooler temps, so that by next Monday, it will be in the 50's. So yesterday and today sound like the best days to work on your garden chores. I remember by now, living out at the old house, at this point, is where I would be looking forward to being done mowing the lawn. And DH would always say, just a few more cuttings.
Carol, really? Yikes! You must be really chilled! And as usual, when we get these warmer temps, and sunny, at this time of year, then the Japanese beetles come out. We hated those, when we lived at the old house, in the woods, as we would get a mass invasion of them. I did see some of them yesterday, they follow the sun, so where ever it is sunny and warm, that is where they are, and they are annoying. I do not understand why those women at Bible study thought it was ok to not wear a mask. You are indoors, enough said!
Pinky, you are such a good daughter in law! Taking your DMIL with, so she can get things done too. I wish I had that kind of relationship with my DMIL when she was alive, but she had so many mental health issues, you could not get chummy with her at all. Our trees are slowly changing colors, it is very pretty at certain areas. I am thinking of trying to talk DH into just taking a short drive north, maybe just an hour or so, to see the colors, then find a nice place to pick up some food, on the way back, to take back to the apartment to eat. I need to find a fruit stand, like the one you stopped at, those are the best!!
As I mentioned, I did not call DD. With the announcement yesterday that our state is #3 in the country for the virus, I posted that on FB, and my DSIL posted a rather cocky comment. I just let it go, but I know now that I am not going to say anything more to them. I will just go ahead and do what I need to do to keep me and hopefully my DH safe. If that means staying away from them and the kids, oh well, as someone without a brain said recently: "it is what it is"! I think I have picked up a cold, as I have the coughing going on, and the tiredness. So I am not in the mood to deal with any issues right now.
DH went hunting yesterday afternoon, and was so hot! He did see 3 deer, but was not able to get a good shot at them. I was happy that he felt good enough to go out.

Beautiful morning here----63 degrees, not much wind and the bluest sky I have seen for awhile. Should get to 81 and then in the 70's for the next several days.
Karen---I have a wonderful DMIL so it make it easy to help her out. I am blessed. Good to hear your DH went hunting.
Harvest is in full swing around here.

Karen - this year it's the stink bugs that have appeared. I have never seen them before but they were in the garden over the summer and I have found maybe 6 in the house and I keep seeing them on the window screens. I think you are probably reading dd and dsil correctly and, take a lesson from me, it's not always a good idea to speak your mind. too bad. I feel sad for you. Good that dh felt well enough to go hunting. Was he ok when he got home?
Hair cut yesterday - always a rejuvenating experience. Came home and made homemade pizza for dinner, we managed to eat by 7:00 which is normal for us. Not sure what is for dinner tonight. I think the lasagna in the freezer. it's probably been there long enough and should be eaten. Or maybe curry - I'm kindof feeling curry.

Karen, I'm loving these warmer temps. Fall weather is coming soon enough with cooler temps followed by freezing temps. We're getting the Japanese beetles too along with box elders. That's the worst part of this time of the year. Too bad about DD and DSIL. No sense arguing since you're not going to change their minds. On FB I have to bite my tongue and not respond to some idiotic views. The updates we're getting about DH's friend's DW is what he posts on FB every day. Last was that she was doing better.
Pinky, you asked how many eye injections I've had. I get my second one a week from tomorrow.
Marsha, I'd hate eating that late. I'd be starving. I'm glad with our schedules now that we've been having our bigger meal at lunch and just something light later.
I went to WM as soon as I got up. Waiting now for DH to get home and walk.

Gareth - I'd like to eat earlier but by the time I get home from work and start preparing dinner it is usually 7:00 or close to it by the time dinner is ready. I try to eat something very low points after work - a carrot if I'm very good, a hard boiled egg if I need something more substantial. My battle is staying out of the peanut butter jar (on a spoon!) which for years was my go-to after work snack. I'm convinced that by cutting out that and cookies I have done myself a world of good but it's so hard..... On the other hand, when we eat that late I don't usually crave a snack later.

It is 64 right now, cloudy and humid. By the weekend, it should be back in the 80s.
I went to a small, private college, too. We were required to live in dorms-remember this was the early 70s. The house I lived in my senior year was owned by the college. It was called a honor house because the girls were picked to be in it. No trouble makers allowed. My DD went to the same school. There are a couple of dorms that are really apartments. She lived in one with 4 small bedrooms, just 1 bath, living room and kitchen.
I think the only way someone will change their mind about Covid is if they or a family member gets sick and sometimes, I think even that wouldn't make a difference. DH and I will continue to be careful.
We usually eat between 6 and 6:30.
Karen, good your DH was able to go hunting.

My iPhone has been “warming up” enough times that I think it’s time for a new one. I have a 6S and want to look at a SE which is the same size. What I don’t want is one of those larger phones such as their 11. I made an appointment for 4:00 this afternoon. It’s an Apple store in a mall. This will be the first time I’ve been in a mall since holiday time last year.
Karen, I think DD & DSIL will figure this all out soon enough. Sometimes it’s what’s not said that sends the message. Glad DH went out hunting. I’m sure he felt better, though tired, for being able to go.
Robin, good luck to DH tomorrow. I hope your friend’s nephew is doing better. Sounds like you have the perfect setup for the crib - I think that’s what I’d get too. Cooler here too, and maybe 80 by the weekend.
Carol, sorry your bible study was marred with worry about others not wearing their masks. Kind of ruined your day.
Marsha, I’ll bet you can’t wait until DD graduates! You’re absolutely correct when you said it’s not always a good idea to speak your mind! Sad, but true.
Pinky, I can’t find the post - is the November baby a girl or boy? You are a good DIL!
Gareth, you’re right about FB! In this day and age, I’ve decided it’s just not worth posting my opinion on anything! I just use it for entertainment purposes - and sometimes that’s few and far between!

Anngie, I went from a 6S to a SE (I think). My DD had switched to it for the same reason you did-she didn't want a big phone. Smart going to the Apple store. I bought mine from Apple on-line. DD and DSIL said it would be easy. Maybe for them, not for me. We don't have an Apple store here, but I could have gone to the Verizon store even if I had to wait in the car until time to be helped. I'm happy with the new phone and right off hand, can't think of any big differences I have come across.
Agree about Facebook. One guy we know posts things to just stir the waters some, to see what kind of debate he can start though he has calmed down some. Then there is the guy this past weekend posting rude and vile things about RBG. We ignore both of these people. In fact, we hardly ever post. We mostly just like some things and say happy birthday or whatever to others.

I looked this morning quickly, I did not have much time, and it was only Karen's post, but 8 all together by now.
We usually eat between 7 & 7:30, I am trying to get DH to eat closer to 7. He usually gets home around 6, and it is close to that time by the time I do an errand or 2 and walk the dog, so we get to relax before we eat. I usually have a snack of some kind, like a light mini-bonbel and a few rice crackers. I am going to eat a lighter dinner tonight. I didn't eat much last night, so my stomach was better, but still not great. I thought maybe eating lighter might be good.
Carol, I agree, people change their tune if they know people who have gotten sick.
On Facebook, I don't have any friends who post the things that are just stupid, but some people I know post and their friends post stupid things. Then there is my not really DSIL, who posts things that really don't go along with her true views, but to me sound like they are coming out of the mouth of a true conservative. I have even called her out on it, especially because my DBIL has so many health issues. She claims she doesn't mean it, or that she just thinks people have too much anxiety from this. Not worth arguing.
I just ran home to get DH the jello, I knew I should have taken it with me. Temps are back up here, 79 degrees, but it doesn't feel hot, it is beautiful. I know Karen said she heard that they were getting remnants of the fire in Europe, but honestly, I don't think it is here, so how can it be in Europe?
Gareth, I think it is pretty amazing that we all seem to have similar views about things. I know sometimes I try to hold back too.
Marsha, I guess I don't have to worry about stink bugs, not being a gardener at all.

I just had to run downstairs again. Our office is set up so that we have a conference room on the main floor, and the offices are on the 2nd floor. We didn't hire back a secretary after the lay-off when we had to close the office, I have been combining duties, so go up and down the stairs sometimes a number of times a day, and it is 2 nice sized flights. Not great for my knees. Thankfully when I forgot my mask upstairs when I came down to witness a document signing, DS ran up to get my mask. I should really keep some in the drawer down there, just in case.
Karen, glad that your DH got to go hunting yesterday, even though he didn't shoot anything. I am sure he was happy to be out, and you were happy to have him out.
