Have your advantages for losing weight/maintaining your weight changed over time?

My main objective for losing weight and maintaining my weight loss was/is to avoid getting Type 2 diabetes, and that is still true. Over time I've added keeping my mobility, being able to wear my clothes from year to year, and not having my feet, knees, and back hurt.

My original 1984 goal (first time on WW) was to get back to my pre-having baby weight after being evacuated from Beirut
In 1998/9 (second time to goal) it was to get back to goal weight...time to take control of my life as both of my children would be in college and the nest was empty.
This time it was again to take control, I think, of a life that with a country in turmoil and a pandemic around me I had no control over.
The ongoing goal will be to reach goal and then maintain thus taking control of, at a minimum, my weight.
That said...the other reasons also exist: being more comfortable in my skin, having more energy, health, longevity, etc.

My original goal was to look good, then to get baby weights off twice. Over the years I just wanted to stay in my clothes from week to week, then year to year.
My original motivation hasn’t changed although I’ve added some new ones ; to achieve a BMI in the Normal range, master maintenance techniques, be fit, Free Etools, be able to wear my clothes from year to year.

First time with weight watchers in 2000 at age 40 was to get to goal and get in shape. I was able to do that. Only had to lose 16 pounds.
Then it was to reach goal by age 50. Did not do that. Ups and down since then. Weight lost and gained.
Now I’m turning 60, and want to lose the weight and learn practices to maintain with consistency. My advantages are more refined thanks to Beck. More calculated and attainable than simply lose weight. Tired of yo-yo dieting. Each Beck round gets better. But I’m not not there yet as I still let life circumstances dictate how I eat. For example, I just gained weight during my mom’s recent death. So, it means changing a life long relationship with food and alcohol as sources of comfort, or entertainment and/or activity. Trying to think more like a thin person, etc.
i like the inspiration from these pages as most of you are at goal.

My first time with WW I was 19 and it was strictly vanity.
My more recent efforts have been all about health. But I'll take looking good as a side benefit!

Mine have shifted from vanity - to look better and wear what I like - to health and aging related, but still with a dash of 'look good while I age' sort of thing. lizlor, you've been through a lot recently, and you have to give yourself time to grieve and regroup. Just make one or two easy diet related tasks per week and see if you can adhere to them. Like: check in and post here daily, and track daily. Even if you go over your allotted points/calories, you're on your way to a health behavior! Ditto exercise: plan x times per week to move around doing something you love, and see where you're at next week and so on. You can totally DO this!

My reasons for being at goal weight have been basically the same since losing 40 pounds in 1964-1965 when I got to goal and earned my Lifetime. I don't feel healthy when over goal. One of the most important reasons was to have a BMI of 25 or less for several years now. Clothes that fit and are comfortable has also been important to me as well. Right now I don't keep myself up like I used to which is important to me so am trying to work on it but isn't easy at this age.
