nothing ever triggers me just to look at it on the internet. what triggers me is if it's right in front of my face.

most of that food looked sloppy or like it would give me bathroom issues! 3 of the slides looked pretty ok. i'm sure every single one of them tasted good despite their looks.

Everyone has a different opinion about what makes a comfort food. Very few of these appealed to me but I agree with finreporter, they probably taste good. Judy, I also was shocked at the portion sizes. Way too much for me to eat and they all look super sized. If you've ever watched "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" on the Food Network channel, you'd see many of these same dishes. The host travels the country and sees amazing restaurants. It's fun to see the different regional dishes that are popular. There are books mentioning these restaurants from the show and some people use them to plan trips to these places. DH and I ate a great lobster roll at a diner outside of Boston, MA that had been featured on the show. There were pictures of the Guy Fieri, the show host, at the restaurant and the owner said they had a lot of business because of that show.

one of my favorite comfort foods of all time is bread pudding. as a kid i hated it, then at a restaurant near UCLA i had a bread pudding that was seriously the best i have ever had and included a bourbon vanilla sauce drizzled over the top.

Guy came to a local restaurant here early in the show called Triple XXX ( www.triplexxxfamilyrestaurant.com/menu/ ) . He HATED it! Actually, he didn't like the Purvis burger he had (it has peanut butter on it). I've been to Charlie Parker's in Springfiled, IL and they have great breakfasts! As for other comfort foods, I agree it varies by person. My favorite comfort food is popcorn!

i try to make comfort type foods like the ones in those slides every so often but i find i tire of them quickly. i love warm gloppy foods to some extent but i never feel 100% after eating them so i tend to remember those feelings all too well and it helps me avoid them. i do make my own fried chicken that's oven baked but same thing happens, feeling a little off after. i wonder if it's psychological from the days i ate with abandon and pretty much never felt well!

Come to think of it I don't know if I have a comfort food. I would say coffee with half & half might be one for me. I only have that when I eat out, drink black coffee at home. I do eat a lot of carbs through out the day, mostly whole food carbs, so that might keep me mellow. Years ago if I got upset my go to was bean soup. Calmed me down though.

That's funny, neen,. I know he hates eggs and never eats those. Honestly, many of the foods he shows are too much for me. I could never eat some of the stuff and the quantities are way more than I can manage. But, give me a bowl of popcorn or M&Ms and I can have trouble stopping!

My phone app kept skipping to best sandwiches so I just went with it. I used to eat Phillipe’s French Dip in downtown Los Angeles a few times a year when I worked in Los Angeles. It was delicious but I was also 21-27 during that time. Now my favorite is egg salad on marble rye because it reminds me of lunches with my mom at Woolworth’s or Gottschalk’s, a small now gone department store.
Rice pudding is my forever comfort food.

jamescat1, I remember eating egg salad at Woolworths when I was young as well, one of our favorite places to eat! My mom would make wonderful rice pudding at home, another of our favorites when growing up!

I may be in the minority here. I'd be happy to eat any of the featured foods and I'd enjoy them. Same with the foods featured on Diners Drive-Ins and Dives. And if the portions were too big I'd bring home the leftovers and eat them the next day.

I’m trying to create the same for my grandchildren and hope my children have good memories too.

jamescat1I believe it was the Woolworth store that had old creaky wooden floors in it, not sure but I loved those old floors. Those are wonderful memories as my mom would take us shopping with her, something which isn't done much today by families.

i always take my girls shopping with me! i'm always seeing parents with their kids. it's definitely easier without them but they come with me pretty much 90% of the time.
