How much does the attribute of personal responsibility play into your weight management/fitness journey?

Personal responsibility plays a big role in my weight management/fitness journey. For starters I needed to accept that I was in charge of my eating/weight situation and I'm the one that is responsible to do the work. I always say I was lucky I accepted the idea that I taught myself to overeat and that was the reason I was obese. Understanding that made it easier for me accepting that I had to do the work to lose the weight.

It needs to play a larger role. I want to be better at taking personal responsibility to accept my eating problems and to lose weight. BBR is helping me with current thinking.

My journey - my responsibility. If I were to go somewhere and gave the responsibility to someone else for the planning and packing it would still be on me if they failed due to my not double checking.
It is up to me to achieve the goals I wish to achieve. I don't place the blame on anyone else if I choose not to follow through. I sometimes blame my body for not doing what I expect when I follow the plan BUT then I look at what has happened, why my body might have stalled and make a new plan.
It is all on my - no passing the buck -

Personal responsibility is key for me. It wasn’t until I accepted ALL of the responsibility that I began to feel “good in my skin”. Before BBR I only took credit for my successes. I blamed the plateaus, gains and sabotage on others, body chemistry, hormones, life, etc.

I was going to say it is the whole ball of wax, but I am also lucky that I can afford and have access to healthy food. And I have a nice space to work out in at home.

Personal responsibility is the key to my weight management /fitness journey. In my younger years I thought it was OK for older people to be overweight as many were in my family. In 1964 I was 40 pounds overweight, it was through joining WW that year I was taught to take personal responsibility for myself when I lost the 40 pounds I was overweight, I learned the importance of eating healthy, exercising etc. What I was taught in WW class has been a part of my life for 56 years. I love this BBR because it takes the personal responsibility we need a notch higher, educates us to handle our weight and fitness issues and gives us a chance to share with other people which is part of this weight management/fitness journey.  Thanks bbbearsmom for all the effort you put into BBR so that we can all learn more about this personal responsibility, you are much appreciated!!!

bbbearsmom, yes, your Newbie thread introduced me to Beck back in 2014 (I think it was), and the reviews have kept me going strong. Also, talking up CBT to Mr. Lani prompted him to seek out a CBT therapist a few years ago. He (and I) are very happy with the results. The Beck principles help in all areas of life in addition to weight management.

lani, It was someone else's idea to start the thread but I am the one that kept it going. Once I read the book I found I was giving advice from the book to answer posts and then decided to just recommend the book. I know the reviews have kept me together. I always do better during a review. Good to hear that CBT counseling helped Mr. Lani.
