When it comes to diet, food/eating, your weight, exercise, how your body looks, are you competitive?

I'm not competitive, I might have been a bit competitive when I was younger now I'm just happy with what I have and don't compare myself to others.

I used to be very competitive on all these issues but with age have lost the competition, I feel lucky to just be here most days and I struggle to get things done, don't have time for competition anymore, guess it's just called survival at this age.š¤ I do miss it as I'm still a perfectionist in many ways? The competition for me was because I was a Home Economics teacher and always strived to be a good role model for my students. Health, body weight and dress were some of the important things to promote the role model for my students ..

I don't remember myself as competitive. I was not an athlete, did my best, was unhappy if someone received an award I thought should have been mine but never made a fuss, etc. I remember wanting to be like the models on the magazine covers but also realizing I was not a Twiggy person even if I lost tons of weight and was told by my parents I was beautiful, intelligent and able to do anything I truly wanted to do SO never really wanted to compete...I think? I liked to look nice but would not have taken part in a beauty contest

Iām not competitive when it comes to my appearance. I tend to be competitive when it comes to exercise although I realize that I have to be mindful of my physical limitations.

A competitive story: I was at a friend's house and his oldest daughter was there. She is in her 60's now and she was taking some type of exercise class. Most of the women in the class were younger than her and her competition kicked in and she felt she had to keep up with them. She ended up injuring her shoulder and needed physical therapy.

Now that I am in my 60s, I have finally won the competition in my age group. In my mind, anyway. I have always been fairly good looking, but I, of course, wanted to be drop-dead gorgeous. The fallacies of youth... Most of my closest friends are concerned with keeping up physical appearance. You come to rely on your looks and it's hard to let it go.

lani, I do judge other people who are my age and look older than me. Maybe I'm kidding myself and I look that old too. I've kept my hair color with very little white so that may be affecting my judgement. My brother who died at 84 still had some of his hair color.

bbbearsmom, genetics are huge. Both my parents were only salt and pepper when they died, mom was 90, dad was 85. My brother is 77 and just has silver sideburns. Now that my bleach job is growing out, the undyed part is sort of a bronze color, no gray yet. I will be 67 in Dec.

lani, My other brother was considered a "tow head" when he was a child and was white by his early/mid-40's. My sister died at 48 but she died her hair so I'm not sure if she had gray or white hair yet. My father and his sister had red hair like I and the one brother had but they were white in the 50's.

Total non sequiter, but Mr. Lani had never seen "tow head" in print, just verbally. He always thought it was "toe head" and couldn't figure it out. I explained it to him only a few years ago. Although where did "tow head" come from? Off to google. I was platinum as a child then segued to brownish. Typical for the Finns. Alrighty, it's one word BTW, the "tow" in towhead "refers to the fiber of flax, hemp or jute prepared for spinning." Since flax is light colored, hence "towhead". First recorded usage in 1800s. So now you know.

We had towheads when I was young, I remember the term. I keep my hair tinted and go to my hairdresser every six weeks for tint and cut as well so I do keep myself up but getting more difficult to do.
