Good morning friends. Slept well and grateful. Today at noon I go for a well needed cut/color. Then I'll be all 'spiffed up' for a bit LOL. After that...not sure what'll happen. I shall play it by ear.
Tonight we are having pizza so the other meals will have to work around that. This is the end of my weight watcher week when I used to go to meetings and I usually have a treat or two on this day. Old habits die hard
Will CBL....

Hey all,
Good morning! I was up early today. My wheels started turning and I couldn’t get back to sleep. DH told me last night that he’s Feeling more congestion in the lungs which scares the heck of me. He underplays everything so I’m sure might be worse than he’s saying. With the CHF, this is not a good sign. He has a regularly scheduled visit with his cardiologist tomorrow. I’m not going to get myself more riled up if I can help it. Maybe it’s just a cold or allergies. But it only reinforced my decision to stay put to protect him. No travel and no gatherings. Turkey for two! My DB and DSIL are coming up to their Boston apartment for Thanksgiving and have invited us to join them and two of their and spouses and two babies. It’s most likely safe but we’ll politely decline.
Ann, DH went to Stop&Shop and bought us some Rhodes French rolls on the way home last night. Again, thank you! They are so good! I love the crusty outside and they hot the spot with our leftover red beans and rice. I splurged on my mint chocolate chip ice cream after dinner. I’m making sure it’s an occasional treat and not every day! I am also checking out the food saver. I learn so much from all of you.
TTFN.

Judy I know how you feel about men and 'underplaying' what it really happening. I know they do it so that we don't worry...but we gals know that's fruitless. Praying it's just allergies. Keep us posted. I hear you on politely declining any and all invitations for Thanksgiving. We have been invited to our neighbors....they are the same ones that we had that 'fun evening' of song and dance under our carport earlier. I just do not feel comfortable and why put myself through all that angst? We three shall stay put, walk if it's weather permitting and just enjoy the day. So happy that you found the Rhodes French rolls and enjoyed them. To me they taste a lot like the rolls at Bertucci's. Used to love that with the evoo spiced dip. I could make a meal on that and their salad alone LOL. I can't remember the mall that we used to go to that had a Bertucci's in it. That was our Saturday treat (after I weighed in at Weight Watchers) or course I know you will LOVE the food saver. It's hard cutting down a recipe for two so that's where it comes in handy. I found that I was tossing a lot of food that got freezer burn. Not anymore Although I slept well, I woke up earlier than I normally do. No clue why and still feel okay. I just hope that it doesn't decide to catch up with me while at the salon!!!! I shall be back on track tomorrow. Today is my sandbox play day

Ann, I’m looking at the Food Saver. How do you use it for soup? Does it work for that well? Which of their models did you get? Thanks!

Good Morning, WW Friends ~
Happy Thursday! I am up unusually early this morning as DH had a job he needed to get to early. He wasn't able to cook breakfast (piker!) so I will have to fend for myself. I am sure I can manage <LOL> I slept extremely well last night - hardly getting up at all.
I had a nice text chat with the gal I will be working with last night. Actually she reached out to me as our principal told her that I might be coming to work with her. She is really struggling being a brand new teacher, AND not having an assistant in the classroom. They have been teaching remotely (which I would imagine is much more difficult). She was very excited about me coming to work with her.
Today I need to go to Meijer and I may also make a trip to Costco? My list for there is growing and it's all "storable" items. Then it will be behind me.
Ann ~ Enjoy your cut 'n color today! One of Life's little pleasures, isn't it? That reminded me that I need to make a haircut appointment for the end of next week. That will be six weeks AND right before I go back to work. Perfect timing!!
Judy ~ I think talking to your pulmonologist was a great idea! It certainly took the decision making out of your hands. IF I felt the least bit unsafe about going back to school, I would definitely reach out to our doctor and he would likely write me a note. But I think our school district is taking all precautions. My VBF has been back to F2F (young 5's) for a couple weeks now in a neighboring district, and doing just fine!
I was able to make an appointment with my carpet cleaning guy for next week. He said he has been very busy - but because I'm going back to work he'd squeeze me in next week. It will be an afternoon appointment and he has big morning jobs Tuesday and Wednesday not far from me, so he will come here after that. He will call me (and I trust that he will). It will be nice to get them done!
BBL. Make a great day!!

Well, after I posted, I went back and saw that both of you posted in the meantime!
Judy ~ I hope your DH is A-OK! Good thing he has a cardiologist appointment right around the corner! Keep us posted!
Ann ~ LOL to not falling asleep while getting beautified!!
Seems funny we all woke up early this morning. Mine was because my DH got up earlier than usual. But it seems we're all on the same wave length.

LOL to us being on the same 'wake up early' page. Pam, I DO hope that you broke the trend and slept longer Sue so nice that you got to talk to the teacher and she is excited about you hopping on board. I'm sure that she is thrilled. Sounds like you have made the right decision for you. Going to saddle up LuLa and Carl and walk. Will BBL

Back from a short brisk walk.
Sue that is great that your carpet cleaner is going to squeeze you in. That's what I call good customer service.

Hi All ~
I am back from shopping which took much longer than I anticipated. I am now one complete trip ahead of myself in things I routinely buy at Costco, which will come in handy. I saw a report on TV about the possibility of people beginning to hoard household items again with the rising numbers. But there was plenty of everything at Costco, and now at my house too.
While shopping in Meijer I ran into the teacher I will be assisting so we had a nice chat. Seems they have not all been told that the kids are coming back on the 9th. Things are pretty much still up in the air. She did fill me in on some of the arrangements for the kids' return - new equipment for cleaning and sanitizing. It all sounds really good.
I brought in the groceries and just need to finish putting away the things for downstairs, then I want to make a trip to Ollie's. They have a new sale starting today and there are a couple of things I am interested in looking at. I have been getting a jump start on Christmas shopping for DH.

Hello friends!
Time has really gotten away from me and I was shocked at how long since I last posted. We didn't even get rain here from Zeta, but I am apprehensive about what damage may be at the camp. Early reports from the area are downed trees and power lines and roof damage. DSIS's camper was parked at a friend's house and he says one end is off the jack and on the ground, but otherwise appears okay. DBIL is headed down to check on things and will go by our place, too. Also, the lawn guy has texted to say he will go check on things for us, which we so appreciate. Praying there is no damage to roof or siding, considering we just spent $$$$ fixing the porch and deck. I am thankful that was done, because I don't think the front porch or the roof supported by it would have survived.
We went from 80+ degrees yesterday with high humidity, which made for a HOT walk, to 48 and breezy today, which required long sleeves and a sweatshirt for this morning's walk. Funny meme I saw on fb: Louisiana be like...Tuesday=Summer, Wednesday=Hurricane, Thursday=Winter, Friday=Fall Saturday=Halloween.
The best red beans and rice recipe I have found is right on the Camellia red beans package, so that is the direction I steered Judy. We like the Conecuh Smoked Sausage, but it may be hard to find "up Nawth" so any good smoked sausage will do. Our backups are Savoie or Richard brands, neither of which would be available to you. As I have said before, red beans and rice is the traditional Monday meal in Louisiana, dating back to the days when Monday was laundry day and that was labor-intensive, so an easily cooked meal was necessary. Mustard, turnip or collard greens is a traditional side, along with cornbread.
DH's foot is making progress. We still have the wound vac and IV antibiotics to deal with, but that's not so bad. HH comes M-W-F to change the wound vac and the IV PICC line is flushed on Mondays. He is doing better at staying put.
I made a simple dish for dinner last night: I sauteed onions, garlic, bellpepper and shredded carrots in a little butter and light margarine then added shrimp, 1/2 Tbs of lemon juice and 1/4 C. white wine. Meanwhile, I boiled pasta and a little broccoli, drained them and added to the mix. If I had had some grape tomatoes on hand, I would have added some of those.) We topped it with Parmesan cheese and it was delicious with sides of coleslaw and mustard greens. Tonight's dinner will be meatloaf, potatoes and carrots. Breakfast this morning was scrambled eggs, turkey sausage and Dave's toast. Lunch will be leftover pasta and shrimp.
Debbie and I have been walking our 3 miles per day and I hope that will help combat the unplanned snacking I did this week. It just seems I have been extra hungry lately. I need to be stricter about having fruit or veggies for snack instead of Ritz chips (which I NEVER should have bought) or cheese and crackers. Also, I have been eating more than my share of freshly cracked and peeled pecans. Love them!
Judy - How wise of you to consult with your doctor about possible travel! When we have so much love on the line, it's hard for us to be logical and make good decisions. We just have to keep reminding ourselves that this situation is temporary and things will get better and we can visit then. Meanwhile, we have face-time and zoom to get us through. It's not the same, but will have to do for now, because I know how devastated I would be if I encouraged DH in unsafe behaviors and he died as a result. I am glad your DH has a doctor's appt. in his near future. Sounds like he may need help with the additional fluid.
Sue - I know from what DD3 has told me that OLSHA has developed extensive policies to deal with the pandemic and related issues. I am glad you were able to make a decision that both you and DH were comfortable with. I wonder if Sears got overwhelmed with business as a result of their coupon campaign? At any rate, that doesn't excuse them from failing to call and tell you what was going on. Extremely poor customer service!
Ann - I have been sleeping better, thank goodness. I am used to sleeping soundly and well and when I don't I get grouchy and out of sorts. I hope you and Carl enjoy the red beans. It is one of my favorite down-home meals. I usually have brown rice now, so it's also a filling, low point meal. I'm with you on Thanksgiving plans. DH and I discussed it this morning and we will stay home. My younger brother always hosts Thanksgiving with all the siblings and we wind up with 35-40 people together from 10:30 am - 4:30 pm or so. Since our children are all working and grandchildren are in school or daycare, it is way too much exposure for us. If the weather is nice, we may go for an outdoor visit for a shorter duration. I don't know what the DDs will decide for their families, but they are good about keeping their distance from us for a couple of weeks after they are exposed.
Time to get something accomplished around here!

Pam, great to read your note! We missed you and I am especially glad to hear that Zeta did not affect your home area too much. I am hoping the same holds true for your camp beach house. And, I'd say that is quite enough on the hurricanes for LA!! Go away hurricanes. It's a hard enough year without all this, right? Glad DH's wound is healing well.
I think we go through hungrier than usual phases and stress will do that, too. Your meals sounded great. My DH is an official huge fan of the Red Beans and Rice and thanks for steering me to the Camellia beans recipe. I order those beans online and I have a few bags in the pantry. I sure wish we had that sausage here up Nawth, but at least we have some great homemade smoked sausage at neighborhood Polish and other sausage shops. Next time I will use that for sure. See how much I learn from you Pam? :-)
I made my 3rd Instant Pot recipe of the week and one I've done before from the Skinny Taste One and Done cookbook. It is called American ground beef goulash. It's so easy and a big hit. The only glitch for me is today I forgot to release the steam immediately since it had macaroni in it. It cooked about 3 minutes too long and the pasta is a bit softer than we like, but it'll do and it tastes wonderful! (I already tested it for my lunch today.) I am so enjoying being home and able to cook dinner early in the day. DH gets home about 6 and is always starving so we can eat asap this way.
We had another staff meeting on Zoom with our new president and all but essential staff are encouraged to stay home most likely until the end of the academic year. We want to keep students safe and so far, we have only had about 6 cases in total since August and all lived off campus and were quarantined. They are following guidelines very strictly and it is working. Now if only we could get the nation on board. OUr rates here are rising and are now at 5-10% which is alarming considering how low they were before. Why, oh why, oh why can't people just wear their masks?! Did you see that Los Angeles ball player who is positive for COVID and supposed to be quarantining. He ripped off his mask and joined the celebration. Just selfish as he was a super-spreader for sure. And I saw him sitting next to an older coach. Sad.
Well, enough of my rant. I'll check in soon. Sue, glad you finished your errands and are set for your re-entry to school. These decisions are not easy, but sounds like you made the right one for you and DH and for your own satisfaction, too. Good to be around people when you can. Sounds like they have all the measures in place. And, hey, if you don't like it, you can quit. Easy peasey.
TTFN!

Pam yeah to Zeta missed you. Who names these storms? ? Anyway, good to hear from you. So happy to hear that DH is healing well. I bet it's due to your good care giving. Also pray that the storms (whatever they call themselves) stay away from YOU and your CAMP. I showed the recipe for red beans and rice to my 'chef du jour Carl' and he said that he will make it. When he does I'll be back to let y'all know how much we enjoyed it Thanks again girls. Judy I hear you on not releasing the IP soon enough. Happens to us as well and we just suck it up and eat it just the same. I also prefer my pasta to be not over cooked. Nice that you are so enjoying the IP. Sue that is wonderful that you found all you needed and then some shopping. I love a well stocked fridge and cupboards. Makes life so much easier when cooking. I do tend to 'over buy' whenever we get to BJ's as the prices are so good. I'm sure Costco is the same deal. Happy to be home from the hairdresser and love the cut/color. Now I feel HUMAN again....my hair has a mind of its own when it grows out... Well, going to get a move on. It's not raining so off to walk miss LuLa.

Hi All ~ I am just back from a walk later than usual. I was out shopping most of the middle of the day and then had some work to do around here. But I got it done before suppertime. It is low 40's and windy and spitting. I am definitely glad to be back indoors.
Pam ~ It was such a great surprise to hear from you. When I was opening up the Cafe I was hoping I'd see your name - then I did - and did the happy dance!! What good news that the storm missed you. Now if it also missed the Camp it will be a total win-win. Your weather meme was a hoot! and so much like what we say about Michigan. Glad your DH is healing well, and mostly that he's staying off that foot. Good to hear another opinion about OLSHA being strict about this pandemic. I am comfortable with my choice, and even more today after talking to my teacher who knew a few more details.
Judy ~ I love all the tips about red beans and rice. I especially love smoked sausage and will be looking for some in the near future. I also prefer brown rice, Pam, and think I will serve ours with brown rice. Good luck to your DH on his cardiology appointment tomorrow! Congrats on your school with such low numbers. I agree, why can't everyone just wear their masks? I also saw that LA ball player on TV and was absolutely shocked! That has to be the height of selfishness!! Your rant is totally justified.
Ann ~ I am so happy you are pleased with your hair. Mine needs a trim as I have bushy 'spots' so it is time. I have already called my beautician and left her a message about next week. When I hear back from her, everything will truly be in place. I may make a couple of extra meals next week to have ready for my first week back to school. I won't get off until 4, and I'm used to getting off at 2:30. Hope you enjoyed your walk!
We are having Strawberry Waffles with Turkey Sausage Patties for supper. In fact, I'm going to start it pretty soon because I'm a little bit hungry. Did I mention how tired I am of the political ads on TV?? I can't wait for this to be OVER!!
Have a wonderful evening.

Well, never did get to take that walk. Soon as I got outside the sky opened up. Luckily we were near the carport and made a run for it. Oh well......They are still saying 1-3" of snow for tomorrow. Truthfully I'd rather have snow than rain. Mother Nature doesn't listen to anyone though, as we well know LOL. I hear you on the 'bushy spots'. That describes my hair to a 'T' Once you get into the swing of things, I'm sure you'll get used to the 4 p.m. time frame. Our pizza was awesome. wish I could have taken that walk to offset the points, but oh well...tomorrow IS another day I also hear you LOUD AND CLEAR re: the political ads and calls........ Shutting down now....Sweet dreams all.

I am DONE with election ads, election angst, election arguing, election debates, election EVERYTHING. And to think this will undoubtedly drag on for days and possibly weeks after Nov. 3. Makes me want to tear out my hair!
Well, we were on pins and needles all day waiting for news from the camp and it was so-so. DBIL finally got through and sent pics. Lots of siding down and some shingles, but no obvious roof leaks. More sea rack to clean up. I will try to email a couple of pics to you. We have already called the insurance company but had to leave a message. I also contacted the guy who just finished all the work on the porch and deck and he says he can fix it all, which is a big relief. He did such a good job on the rest of it. It will probably be several days to weeks before electricity is restored. The neighbors one street over lost their roof, so we are counting our blessings. This is all a part of life in hurricane country.
I just started My Dear Hamilton audio book and am liking it very much. I also checked out Fredrik Backman's Anxious People on Libby. He is the author of A Man Called Ove, which I LOVED! I'm going to read a bit and head to bed.
