Good Sunday all!
I thought I'd better stick my head in the cafe before you started worrying that something was wrong. I have been to Mass where the bishop came to install our new pastor. Fr. Babu was born in India, but has been in the US many years. He filled in for Fr. Brent while he was on sabbatical for 4 months last year, so we are familiar with him. I think he was very happy to be assigned to our rural parish.
After a couple of cups of coffee and a quick change of clothes, I met Debbie for our walk. We always find lots to chatter about and are becoming good friends. The rest of the day will be filled with a visit to DD1 to drop off some Satsumas (mandarin oranges)from our trees, as well as some to Debbie's and a bag of pecans to Dee's. We also have a Walmart pickup between 2:00 and 3:00. Other than that, I plan to read and play WWF and enjoy a day of rest.
Our mother/daughter girls' out day was fun, though it started kind of touchy, with a discussion about DH's health and our plans for "aging in place". They would very much like for us to move to town, closer to both of them, but I don't think that will happen anytime soon. If something should happen to DH, I would definitely look for something smaller and easier to manage, but I would fully expect him to dig in his heels and refuse to move if something happens to me first. They were hesitant to talk about all this, but I reassured them that I was touched that they cared about what happens to us and that it is much easier to talk about such things BEFORE it becomes a critical situation. Because they are young (and DD2 has already moved 13 times!) I don't think they can fully understand how hard it would be to move from this house, much of which we built with our own hands, after over 40 years. Once all the serious stuff was out of the way, we had a nice lunch at a favorite cafe across the river and did a little shopping and window shopping at different stores. We had to cut it a little shorter than usual because I needed to be back by 3:30 to help DH with his IV change.
Everyone gathered at our house for a takeout dinner. DD2, DH and I played a game of dominos while waiting for the others. There was lots of laughter and love and good food. So as not to tempt DH too much, we didn't have cake, but enjoyed small cups of ice cream after dinner. I did well sticking to plan, other than that indulgence.
Yesterday, I enjoyed sleeping in and then drinking coffee and playing on the iPad, as Debbie was off attending a grandson's birthday party. After lunch, I got DH to teach me how to use the tiller. With just a little practice, I managed to till the area needed and then planted green onions, garlic and carrots. I finished just before a rain shower. After the rain passed, Debbie and I took a late afternoon walk and then I got a shower and cooked dinner. I was really tired after all that activity and headed to be early (for me) at 10:00. Once again, I dreamed my alarm clock was going off and woke an hour early at 5:30. I was able to go back to sleep, though I wish I could just stop doing this!
I was hungry by the time I finished walking so doubled up on breakfast and had boiled egg, toast and yogurt with fruit. I figured it was better to eat a hearty brunch than to be looking for snacks later. We have LOTS of satsumas, so that will be my snack of choice for a while. Lunch will probably be a sandwich or some Progresso soup. Dinner will be leftover pork loin with bbq sauce on a bun, air fryer FF, California mix veggies and smothered okra & tomatoes.
I received my test results from Friday's annual checkup and was disappointed to see my thyroid is out of whack again. This will probably result in a change of dose (I just refilled a 90 day supply!) and may adversely affect my WL efforts for a while. Oh well, it may help with my thinning hair, so that will be good. I also noticed I am below the normal range on a couple of tests which may indicate some kidney problems. Or, may just indicate that I was not well-hydrated Friday morning or may be a result of my thyroid being off. I will see what the doctor has to say on the subject. At least nothing seems too serious and I checked out fine otherwise.
Judy - I have been back on WW for several months. I signed back up on a special offer and they wouldn't let me use my old profile, so I lost all my recipes and fav food list.
I was doing green plan, which is my favorite, but after a period of being lax about tracking, I opted to do purple plan as of Aug. 1. It has worked well for me, even though I invariably go over on points every week. I am still losing and it is less tracking so a win-win for me. I hope your DH's checkup went well. I could not believe your experience at the gas station!!! Good for you for complaining. Companies can't fix problems they don't know about. And it worked in your favor in finding your keys.
Ann - It seems the bad news just keeps coming in your life right now! Know that you and your family and neighbors are in our prayers. Be kind to yourself and stay well-rested and hydrated. You need to take care of yourself, so you can be a comfort and help to them.
Sue - Thanks for the reminder to clean my coffeemaker. It's been a while, so I will get that chore done today. It's also time to run a cleaning cycle on the washer, so I will also do that and be ready for laundry day tomorrow. It's nice that the weather has warmed up a little so you can enjoy the fire pit a little longer. My DD and DSIL bought a gas-powered fire pit table for their Florida room and are enjoying it very much. I so enjoyed my lunch out with the girls, so I think I understand how great it is to be able to dine out and enjoy time with your BFF and co-workers on occasion. Like you, I will continue to do whatever I think is best for me and for DH with regard to precautions, regardless of what anyone else thinks. Better to be safe than sorry. I did step a little out of my comfort zone this morning. They had asked me to join 4 other choir members to sing processional and recessional hymns acapella for Mass and I agreed. I was a little taken aback that when I arrived in the choir loft, I was the only one with a mask on, but I kept it on until we sang and then, as soon as the song ended, everyone masked immediately. One other woman and I went downstairs for the bulk of the service and went back upstairs after communion for the final hymn. It worked and everyone applauded at the end. I guess everyone misses having music. It was also a bitter-sweet memory of our organist, who died suddenly back at the beginning of the pandemic.
I hope all of you have a good and restful Sunday!
