Happy Friday the 13th......
Slept okay just not long enough. My mind wouldn't shut down. Today will be a low key day for me. Carl is going to do a BJ's run and I'll stay put with miss LuLa.
After coffee I will sit and play my day.

Good Afternoon, WW Friends ~ TGIF!! I totally missed posting yesterday, but read your posts after the fact. Ann ~ Sounds like you are feeling better. Hope that is the case! Take care of yourself Judy ~ You are certainly enjoying going through the books - especially the cookbooks!! Enjoy!! I worked at school all day yesterday, in fact we stayed over a little bit finishing up some stuff. Then there had been a terrible accident between school and home and my usual 10 minute drive took me 45 minutes. I had to take a detour (and so did everyone else) so I was frazzled when I got here. Fortunately everything else was fine, and I had leftover Hamburger Pie in the fridge for supper. So we had a quick, easy, and delicious comfort-food meal. I slept well last night, though I went to bed at a little after 9 - I woke a little after 6. I went in to school at 8 this morning and we were finished by 1:30 so I came home. Without kiddos in the classroom, the work load is entirely different. We prepared materials and packed bags for our 10 students - then we delivered them to each home. On the way back, Taylor and I stopped at Starbucks and picked up coffee for an after-lunch treat. Today being Friday the 13th, DH and I customarily celebrate with a dinner out. I had thought about The Outback Steakhouse, but as we watch the news and our numbers are escalating at an alarming rate, I am very skeptical. When I mentioned that word to him, he quickly said he was too! So instead I have taken some strip steaks out of the freezer and did a quick-thaw, and now they are marinating. They won't be as good as when I have 24 hours to marinate them, but I think we will be happier with our decision to eat at home. Next week we won't have any kiddos at school, but we plan to do remote teaching from the classroom. We prepared lesson plans and materials to take to their homes for the next four weeks (since one is Thanksgiving and a short week), so we don't have to do that again. We're not sure from one day to the next what will happen. We are currently in a remote status until Nov 30th, but we expect that to be extended. I will figure out how many hours I need to work to keep Taylor caught up, and proceed accordingly. I don't expect to need to do any full days - and we won't have any Friday deliveries for four weeks. The way things have been going, four weeks is an eternity and SO MUCH can change!! Wishing you all well. I am looking forward to a quiet weekend!

Happy to say that I housecleaned while Carl was out and about. I got a lot done and grateful for that. I had 70 music on while I cleaned and it kept LuLa and I company We are having lentil soup for supper. I had it already cooked and frozen, took it out and put it in the IP. That will be ready when we are...along with a nice crusty roll. I am feeling a tad better. Tried to contact my sister Judy, but apparently she is at either her son's or daughter's house and I don't have their phone numbers. I did leave a message and hopefully she will return the call. Sue our numbers here are on the rise as well. It scares me to the point where I have no desire to go out at all! Happy that yu made the decision to have your steak dinner at home where you and DH will remain safe. It sounds like you and Taylor have a good work relationship. Happy about that. Waving to Pam and Judy....time for me to shut down and just relax before dinner. Unfortunately it rained all day long, so I didn't get any walking in. Only steps I accumulated were via cleaning...not much at all. Oh well..........tomorrow IS another day. Sweet dreams.....

Hey all,
Good to read your posts. It’s been a busy day here at the Black Rock Cafe. Lol. I had a couple Zoom meetings and then at lunch my Ddil called via FaceTime and I was able to see my DGS for an hour. This afternoon DD and I heard from the CA Bar atty requesting more info. That will take some time tomorrow.
Ann, sounds like you had a pretty good day. I also made a big pot of soup. DH loved it. It was a Lidia’s Kitchen minestrone with pesto, potatoes, escarole, zucchini, leeks, onions, carrots and celery recipe topped with fresh Parmesan cheese. We had it with your good Rhodes French rolls. It made enough for an army with 5 quarts of liquid so I’m freezing some now. I liked that it did not have pasta in it for a change and it is a great way to get all my veggies in at once.
Sue, it sounds like your school schedule is shaping up nicely. Fun to deliver school bundles to the kids. Fun to have some socializing with a coworker at Starbucks. I Our Covid numbers are really spiking here and we are being told to stay home with no travel for holidays and to celebrate Thanksgiving with only those we live with. It’s depressing but we have no choice really. I haven’t been anywhere except to walk the pooches. We had a few soggy strolls today. Sounds like your Friday the 13th home celebration was going to be fun!
Tomorrow will bring more packing. I need to get more boxes. The fun continues!!! Have a good night all.

Hello to all!
I had a couple of busy days and didn't make it to the cafe. We made our trip to the camp Wednesday, met with the very nice insurance adjuster and got our first look at the mess. The front of the camp and front windows all have dirt and tiny pieces of debris that blew on during the storm, stuck and dried. Not sure how we will get that cleaned up, being 20 ft. in the air. The very good news is the adjuster is reasonably sure we will get the new roof and all the siding covered (minus deductible and named storm deductible). Anyway it was a relief. DBIL has been staying at our camp while repairing their campsite and deck prior to pulling their 5th wheel back in. Lets just say he is NOT a good housekeeper, lol. I was getting twitchy just looking at things and finally decided to do a little cleaning while waiting for the insurance adjuster. DH and I also put up about 7 lbs. of shrimp and 2 lbs. of crabmeat for the freezer, since we were almost out at home.
Thursday he saw the surgeon who was very pleased with the wound progress. He was disappointed that she said the wound vac needs to go back on, but glad she agreed to let HH do it today, as it meant he had a few hours without carrying that "purse". We met DD2 at a nice Mexican restaurant where she found us a corner seat in the open air patio. We enjoyed lunch and visiting with her. Next we headed to see the Infectious Disease doctor who removed the IV PICC line and prescribed 3 weeks more of antibiotics by mouth. That meant DH got to take his first shower in 6 weeks today. Today, the HH nurse came and was excited to see how well the wound looks. She is predicting he will have the wound vac off by Thanksgiving, if all goes well. So good news on that front.
While we were at the camp on Wednesday, DH's "adopted" sister called from San Antonio. We called her back during the drive home and she told us she has been diagnosed with advanced colon cancer and will have to have surgery and a colostomy. She was still a little shell-shocked and didn't have many details, but will be meeting with her doctor on Tuesday to get the results of all the tests, MRIs, etc. Knowing Donna, we figure she has had symptoms for a long time and ignored them. She's a very independent woman.
Today, I walked alone, since Debbie had to work, and listened to my audiobook of My Dear Hamilton, which I am enjoying very much. After the HH visit and breakfast, I got busy cleaning floors and got about 1/2 done with the mopping. I took a break and decided to call WW since I haven't gotten a response to my email regarding my Wellness Wins reward of two wine glasses that arrived broken. I got a very nice man who tried to help me, but couldn't get through to the section that could resolve the problem. For a while, he was checking with me every 3 minutes or so to tell me he was still on hold. After about 20 minutes I stopped hearing from him and at 45 minutes I hung up. To his credit, he tried to call back and left a message for me to call the section he tried to reach. I didn't think it was worth it, as he didn't leave a number and he already had all the information they needed. Oh well.
Next, I got a call from my dear friend Mary in Mississippi, who had the camp across from ours pre-Katrina. We ended up chatting for almost an hour. By then, it was time to take a shower and head to town for our flu shots. We also dropped off satsumas at DD2's, gassed the car and picked up DH's prescription and a turkey at Walmart. When we got home, we teamed up and got spaghetti sauce cooking for dinner and then I finished steam mopping the kitchen floor. Needless to say, I am already in jammies and half-watching a movie with DH before bedtime. I am pooped!
Breakfast today was fresh pineapple, blueberries, yogurt and seeds. Lunch was a leftover mini-muffaletto and dinner was a salad and spaghetti with meat sauce. I gained back the .9 I lost last week, so am trying to tread the straight and narrow this week.
Judy - I enjoyed Anxious People and could imagine it as a hilarious and touching movie. I saw an old war time cookbook my aunt had and found it fascinating as it had recipes for things you could get with ration coupons. You are smart to hang on to those as they are irreplaceable and rare. I checked out The Accident and it looks like something DH and I might enjoy watching together. CV numbers here have gone from less than 5% positive rate to more than 9% in just a couple of weeks. They are saying it was homecoming and Halloween festivities.
Ann - Thanks for recommending Barbara Freethy as an author. I looked at the 5 or so books of hers my library has and they all sound good. I think you and I have similar taste in authors like Nora Roberts and Barbara Delinsky. I am so glad you are starting to feel a little better. Music is medicine for the soul and always helps me. Like you, I feel like we need to go back to staying home. I have been in Walmart 3 days in a row trying to pick up medications for DH and myself and that is not good. Usually, I may go inside every 2 weeks or so and the rest of the time is curbside. I am making a list to stock up on things I think we may need over the next few weeks and then we will "hole up".
Sue - It sounds like you got into the swing of things quickly at work, even though it has all changed. Several schools in our extended area are closing until after Thanksgiving due to CV outbreaks. So far, my DGKs school here is open and they have not had an active case in several weeks, but that may change after Thanksgiving. We have had good luck ordering takeout from our area restaurants. It allows you to enjoy the good food and not having to cook, but lessens the chance of exposure. Most restaurants now are quite happy to do takeout as they need the business. Our lunch yesterday in the open air patio will probably be the last for a while. I am SO hoping the vaccines coming out will be safe and effective. I crave a normal life! How is your DH doing? As I recall, he lost another friend a short time ago. 2020 has been a tough one!
