Welcome to our 2020 Alcohol Free All The Way Board!
If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board, you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you? Or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? Did you finish the bag of chips? cookies? or just spend the evening grazing? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgment that we have been there, done that and know we need and get the support from this great group of women and men.
Whether you are choosing to be AF or find you can achieve AIM (maximum of one drink per day for women and maximum of two drinks per day for men), please join us if you feel this challenge meets your needs.
The main focus of this board is to be ALCOHOL FREE. The focus of our new challenge is to commit ourselves to success, one day at a time, one hour at a time....success breeds success! Follow a healthy food plan, exercise and stay AF.
As with all of our challenges, everyone is welcomed. For some making the commitment for the entire challenge is the way to go, but day by day is also a way to go. No one is cut from the challenge, and if you don't want to be part of the challenge, you are still welcome to post.

ALMOST TIME TO SWITCH FROM MY DAILY ANXIETY TO MY FANCY CHRISTMAS/NEW YEAR ANXIETY OR CHOOSE ACCOUNTABILITY NEW CHALLENGE November 1 through December 31
Accountability: experiencing consequences for performance or actions. Accountability is essential for an organization, for a society, and for a person. Anxiety: a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease, typically about an imminent event or something with an uncertain outcome.
In other words, with accountability, a person will assume ownership of their own action because they will face consequences. With anxiety, a person will put enormous pressure on themselves by worry or fear.
Accountability is what we’ll call it, but think of it as both incentive and insurance. It helps to keep one in control and not let anxiety take over. The Anxiety will not get you anywhere. The holidays are coming and no amount of crash dieting or excessive eating/drinking or letting stress take over, will delay the inevitable. Establishing accountability helps us to stay the course, even when our former ways tempt us. If a little accountability is good, and more is better, then let’s go all in on this challenge. Leave the anxiety out of the equation.
What should we be accountable for in this challenge? Pick one, all, or anything in between. Feel free to add your own accountability goal and let others join you.
ACCOUNTABILITY CHOICES!
FRESH START MONDAY! What is your accountability for the week? What anxiety will you let go of?
MOVE MORE ACCOUNTABILITY Every little bit helps and definitely helps anxiety.
SLEEP ACCOUNTABILITY Have you established a routine?
NUTRITION ACCOUNTABILITY Ugly and good days Drink more water Drink your height in water….68 inches tall equals 68 ounces of water….add 8 ounce every seven days One or more fruit daily One or more vegetable daily Track nutritional intake Grocery List Share a healthy recipe Low Sugar, limit added sugar to 24 grams or less Pre lose the five pound holiday gain AF/AIM/AIE
JOURNAL YOUR NUTRITION ACCOUNTABILITY
HAPPINESS ACCOUNTABILITY
What did you do for yourself today? Motivational quote
HABIT ACCOUNTABILITY What new habit are you establishing?
CHECK IN DAILY ACCOUNTABILITY Scale of 1 -5 …how is your day going? Just say NO - not saying yes to every request will help to control anxiety.
TIME MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTABILITY Need to do, should do, want to do Organize yourself with lists. Lists can help reduce anxiety.
Let's be accountable and supportive to each other. As always no judgement, just encouragement, and if needed, tough love though we are usually toughest on ourselves. Set your accountability goals and let's get to work. Let’s be healthier versions of ourselves come January 1.

We enjoyed walking the nature trail and distributing new decorated shells. There seemed to be about the same number of rocks and shells as there was the last time we walked the nature trail. Someone posted on our community FB page that they would continue to put out new painted rocks and hoped we could keep it going. The second pantry cabinet that I ordered back in September finally arrived this week. DH put it together with less trouble than the last one. It was missing the rubber sleeves for the shelf pins, so I may not put a lot in it until the replacements arrive. Almost finished with Pilgrim man, I'll post pictures of the couple when completed. For some reason, I had trouble falling asleep last night, finally got up around 1am to take a hot bath, which seemed to do the trick. Frost on the ground this morning but it's supposed to be warm and sunny by this afternoon.
Jan- Glad you slept better Tuesday night. Hope the drive up north went well. Retreating to your craft room sounds like a good idea. Kroger's had quite a few turkey breasts.
Liz- Sorry about the eggnog & A. Hope you got a lot of knitting done. Thanks for the suggestion about the county website, I'll check it out.
Murphy- Your day trips and drive to your hometown sound fun!
GG- Yay for the scale being down and for having a good school day. Keep us posted regarding the vascular surgeon.
Cindy- Hope your RA doctor can find a better option for your infusion. I was told to wait a month or more between flu and shingles vaccine. I'm doing okay on the decreased dose of Prednisone as far as the PMR goes, other than some aching in my biceps and issues with my shoulders. I don't think the shoulder issue is related to the PMR, I've had it for a while. Also have pain and stiffness in my right hand, Tylenol seems to help with that.0
Cathy- WTG AF, OP, walking, and having a forever mindset about what you eat. I prefer the idea of woodland fairies taking the rocks from the trail. I have not used rum, etc. flavorings as a substitute. It was more about how A made me feel than the taste. I do like eggnog though, but avoid buying it because of the calories. I would rather have cookies or pie.

Countdown to retirement - 42 days!
Morning all! Did you ever have one of those mornings where you got up and ready to go and everything just felt "off"? That's how I feel today! No reason at all. I slept well and got up on time but I just can't seem to get in a groove this morning. I think maybe I'm just feeling overwhelmed with all the cleaning and organizing I need to do at the house. And it truly is a "need" not just a want! I have to make some room in the fridge and freezers and I have to get the garage better organized so that I can function! I had planned on starting my Christmas decorations tonight. I wanted to at least get the Christmas tree brought in and set up but of course that means taking all the fall decorations down first and put away. Can't do any one thing because something else needs doing first! LOL I'm thinking I'm going to give myself grace and just wait on Christmas decorations till next weekend. I might even just put up my little Christmas tree this year and not do the big one. I have to be aware that when I get stressed like this, I am much more susceptible to wanting to escape with A and that ain't going to help anything!!! LOL
Amy - I'm so glad that the community is going to continue with the painted rocks and shells! I can't imagine an easier way to make someone smile and don't we all need that now! Sorry you had trouble getting to sleep.
Cindy - glad you were able to get in early at the doctor's office. I got my shingles shot when I went to the doctor's visit but he didn't recommend the pneumonia shot yet so I'll hold off on that. I can only imagine the juggling act with so many meds! Glad you got the chest x-ray though. Did the doctor think there were any lasting effects from the possible concussion?
Cathy - Hope your lockdown is going ok. So many states here are putting extreme plans into plan especially over the holidays. I have mixed feelings but I am for doing anything that will stop this virus! NYC schools went back to virtual learning as of yesterday afternoon. There are more cases happening here in East TN and I read on the news yesterday that it seems to be at about the same rate regardless of whether it is in the city or in rural counties. I thought that was interesting.
Jan - hope you had a safe and good trip to your happy place! Were you able to meet up with your sister? I'm so glad your computer seems to be working! I think when you have so many precious family pictures, it is so important to have them backed up on an external drive! Hope you are able to arrange to do some of the tax work at home!
GG - WTG on the loss!!! I hope the doctor gets you set up with a vascular doctor quickly! Sounds like this needs to be addressed sooner than later!
Liz - did you make it through your long day alright yesterday? Did you manage to stay away from the eggnog?
My back seems to be completely fine now thank heavens! I will just need to be careful doing the work in the garage this weekend to make sure I don't aggravate it again. Then on Sunday, we are having another special choir rehearsal to work on Christmas music so that will be another 2 hours in those wretched chairs! LOL I will make sure to take some Tylenol before I go! Hope everyone has a great morning! Murphy

Check in Daily Accountability 5 I'm here and ready for the challenge Time Management Accountability 4 Schedule time frames to work on projects, keep a calendar and less screen time. Quote: If you're not changing it, you're choosing it. "If you don't take care of your body, where are you going to live?" ACCOUNTABILITY, NOT ANXIETY November 1 - December 31 November 1 start weight: 202.3 November 8: 202.6 November 15: 201.7 November 22: November 29: December 6 December 13: December 20: December 27: December 31 final weight: Good Morning. Well yesterday turned into quite an adventure. First sis had texted she didn't think we should meet, Michigan back on lock down and food places closed. She has seen some patients that have family with Covid. That was fine, I was just going to take some photos cut a tree and come home. Well if you saw Facebook, that wasn't the case. So glad I went and found the broken window now and not next spring. Not sure what kind of big bird it was or why it slammed so hard into the window. The shades were drawn inside so shouldn't have been much reflection. Then to get up enough steam to bust through the inside door window too!! Yikes. Cleaned up as much glass and all as I could, had to turn the power back on and used the vacuum a bit but will need a deep cleaning when we open. Blood stain on the carpet, well that was coming out next year anyway. Had to figure out how to cover up the windows for winter to keep more friends from getting in. I'm hoping my sis and her DH can go out and put a piece of board over the outside window or we may have to go back up. At least I put the screen in so it's not open to the elements. I did manage to cut a tree and stuff it in the car with me. After that my eating and plans kind of fell apart! Todays' another day Going to be warm and nice so we will get outside and enjoy the day. Hope you all are fine, Hope for no more surprises this month! Jan Amy Glad they will keep up with the rocks and shells. Can't wait to see you stitching pics. Murphy My happy place wasn't making very happy yesterday, but all is good now. Don't stress yourself out, one day at a time, things will get done. GG Yay for the scale and that school is going well. Cindy Have you ever done the botox for the headaches? Hope the Dr has some answers. Cathy Love the mind set of a change for a healthy life, not a diet. I know that, but still get into letting the scale dictate instead of just making good healthy choices. I will focus on that. My cousin thought the bird was some kind or partridge or grouse. I was just a bit afraid when I saw it on the floor that it may still be alive and have big Talons!! Hi Liz and Carole

Hi girls. Haven’t heard from the dr. With Covid cases rising, I wonder if that is the problem? I will call tomorrow if I haven’t heard anything. We do have an appointment tomorrow to get living wills, and power of attorneys in place. We’ve been talking about it for awhile, seems like a good time to do it!
My funny from yesterday. One of Jacks vocabulary words was gesture. To explain it, I said you know like giving someone the finger. But that’s not a good gesture. He looked at me with his mouth literally hanging open. I wonder if he was astonished I knew about such things? Lol
Amy: I’ll bet you have so much fun decorating this year! Honestly, I would be happy with just my tree and a few special things out! I whittle it down each year!
Murphy: Decorating is supposed to be fun, not stressful! Are you trying to be over busy to avoid A? I like to sit too much!
Jan:What a discovery at the cabin! It had to be scary! I’m glad it was dead!
Liz: Honestly, I’m not sure I have even ever tasted eggnog! It sounds awful, though! Lol Will you go big decorating this year or cut back some with your injury?
Cathy: When I quit A I never wanted substitutes unless it was diet pop or something. So many times the calories would be too high, or the taste would make me want the real thing.
Cindy: I hope you are having a good day!

THURSDAY: AIM/OP/60 minutes walking while reading
It is raining today and all is well. I believe we will have reheated makhlouta for lunch today since it will be filling and warm. Right now, coffee is divine! Last night I went through the small glasses and wine glasses in the cupboard and put in five ounces into each one. I found the perfect tasting glass from a wine festival, marked on the glass what 5 ounces would be and told myself I would allow myself one or two glasses, use the wine saver that sucks air out of the bottle and corks it. The two glasses of wine lasted over 4 hours and that is all I had before heading up to bed. I know I can have some and not all but wanted to test myself and did. So, credit for checking the glasses, finding the one to use in the future, making a plan and sticking to the plan. No additional food eaten, AIM and in bed at a decent time.
AMY: I didn't actually like coffee OR alcohol/wine when I first had it. Had to doctor the coffee with cream and sugar and have sweet wine or spritzers and mixed sweet drinks. Funny how our taste buds can change! Now have black coffee all of the time! I like the idea of leaving goodies on the trail but do wonder where they end up...Sorry you had to take a bath to sleep but know that I have had to shower if too itchy...I have since learned that one of the medications for hypertension can cause the itchy skin feeling. Do you have room for everything in your two cupboard pantry? I used to make eggnog for my daughter for breakfast...it was one way to get a bit of protein and some calories into her before school started. She was NOT a morning person and still is not. I have also made it on exchange diets and counted it as a dairy and protein using sweetener instead of sugar and nonfat milk instead of half and half.
MURPHY: What about making a list of ALL the things you want to eventually accomplish around the house. I do this when my children visit because they do better with a list. As we work our way down the list I strike one thing after another off when done. We add to the list at the bottom if necessary. Seeing what I have done boosts my spirit knowing I can take one thing at a time having already accomplished a lot. I read the same about rural/urban covid-19 case levels. I also read that in rural areas there is not enough medical care for people as they are not set up for intensive care situations and usually ship people to larger hospitals. Would taking a cushion to sit on at choir practice help? As for the food you need to organize...perhaps a food bank, women's or homeless shelter or your church would be interested in food stuff near expiration or that you don't need/want/have room for?
JAN: I wondered about the bird...thought about it being a raptor and if still alive it would have been dicey to handle and non doubt would have required gloves... Glad you were able to take care of the situation and do hope someone can board up the window before the weather gets horrendous!
GG: How funny about gesture...the gesture that came to mind for me was the sweeping arm gesture that said "right this way"...no idea why. I hope you hear from the doctor/vascular surgeon so you can get that seen to. Living wills are a good idea in a country where they exist. We have never had a will in all the over 40 years we have been married... I used to have diet soda in the house as a mixer OR to drink but stopped buying it as I didn't really like it. My father used to add lemon juice or lime juice or cranberry juice to his diet cola...still do like cola that way.
CINDY: Hope you and your relatives are okay. Sleep well!
