Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. 41 now, and going to stay in the 40's for the day. Sunny too, and light winds.
Pinky, thank you for pointing that out, about the C-Q10. I am surprised I missed that, and also, that my old doctor did not say anything, as she was the one who recommended it, since I did not want to take the statin. When starting a new med, vitamin, supplement, I read all of the directions, so I am taking it correctly, that is why I am surprised I did not see that warning, as it is right with the directions. I will be picking that up at Walgreen's today. About the salary for the ICU nurses, from what I saw when I was there, and all that I heard, when being on the phone with DH when he was getting so bad, they more than earn it. The more they can get, more power to them. I have been reading how them, and the doctors are getting so burnt out. Were you able to spoil the baby (name?) yesterday? I'll bet you did!!!
Carol, about road construction, the saying here in Wisconsin is; there are 2 seasons here; winter and road construction. Although this summer I did not see much of it around town, guess they were working on highways. HAHAHA, ok, this is how I read that comment about cervical cancer, and older women: the doctors are hoping, since it is a slow growing cancer, that the cancer will outlive us!!! With DD, better to be safe than sorry. Before DH got sick, I kept talking about going up to Minocqua for a few days, and staying at one of their excellent hotels was the big thing that worried me. So good for your DD and DSIL.
Marsha, sorry that whole thing with the turkey and Trader's Joe was a bust. Did they check in the back room coolers? I am sure you asked them to. I would have talked to the store manager. Is there a big community of Jewish people in Milwaukee? Thank you for the correct info about the driver's license, I truly thought it was for international flights. Guess I will go get that fixed, when I am done feeling sorry for myself. Do you and your DH have to go get your DD next week? I am sure you said.
Anngie, yes, about the Hgb A1C, there is no cause to do that test, if you have a normal glucose level. Just a waste of money. After getting advice on here about the FB account, I have decided to leave it be for now. I am surprised to hear that it is so hard to deactivate it. I love FB, if I was going to go in a coffin to be buried, I would have my laptop buried with me, so I could go on it, HAHAHAHA!!!! The only thing that is so annoying is when our friends start voicing their opinions, and don't let up. How are you feeling?
Gareth, nice that you could walk outside yesterday. I think our high was maybe 58(?). Funny how you are going to your salon today, so am I! She is going to see if she can dye my hair, as I am afraid it has gotten so thin it might be too hard to do. That is the first I heard about the new license and the courthouse. I wonder if that is the same here! All I had heard about was for traveling. The big reason I wanted to take DH FB page down was, shortly after he passed, DD1 asked if they could buy his laptop. I told her I would get back to her on that answer. So I started deleting sites on his computer, but would set it aside for awhile. Then, when I finally decided I did not want to give it up, as his is newer than mine, she said they would buy DGD a new one for a Christmas present. But I still think that since he is no longer here, why leave that hanging around the internet?
Robin, wow, you did get on late yesterday! You must have been very busy! You are having Thanksgiving this Sunday right? So will you be serving a kosher turkey, like Marsha? Too bad you couldn't pick one up for her, as they are most likely way cheaper there, and ship it to her, but that is where she would pay; for the shipping. Now that you say it, I can't recall seeing the notification on my FB about a birthday for someone that passed away. Oh wait, DH would be the first of my "friends" on there to have died, so that is something I have not thought about. How did your pot roast turn out?
I am excited with having a hair appt. this afternoon. I was surprised she had an opening, considering I called there yesterday! Who knows, maybe more people are staying away from hair salons.
I finished the book last night, as I did not feel like getting depressed during the day yesterday. It was a very good book, I would highly recommend it.
How many season's are there of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel? I watch it on the weekends, so I have something to watch, but I don't want to watch too much, if there are not many seasons filmed. I wish I could get The Crown, but that is on Netflix, and I refuse to get any more services. I need to watch my money if I want to stay here, and not use my savings. I like Amazon TV, since I get so much more than just a TV service.
Have a great Friday everyone.

Robin - yes you are right Kosher is all I know. I didn't realize that non-kosher turkeys were bland. I did know that we don't brine it because it is already soaked and salted. I tend to leave the salt out of most of my meat recipes because of the salting process.
Karen - we are going to get dd on Wednesday. We had planned to go Thursday and do Thanksgiving on Friday but she objected to staying an extra night alone in her apartment since one roommate left this week, one leaves Tuesday, and one doesn't live there anyway. Then I was hoping my friend would go get her nephew and bring dd home since technically it's her turn but he found another ride. So I'm taking Wednesday off and we're going to get her. Mrs. Maisel is still ongoing. I can't remember how many seasons have passed but it's not cancelled.
I have a haircut today too! It surprised me when it popped up on my calendar reminder.
We are on the last season of The Americans. Great series but I seriously want her to be boiled in oil at the end.
Not much planned for this weekend. I have to go to Kohl's to return 2 of the sweaters I ordered. I think I'm keeping the other 2, and the jeans, which are a little long so I'll wash them before wearing and see if they shrink enough. If not they will go in the sewing room to wait for me to get around to them haha. also need to go to Target as I suddenly realized I need laundry soap and I also need toothpaste. And cleaning of course. And I want to make a bunch of masks in the new pattern I tried because I like this pattern best of all - I can talk in it and don't have to keep adjusting my mask back over my nose.

Busy morning. Laundry and I've walked. Two days in a row now walking outdoors! Not as warm as yesterday but the wind is a lot lighter which made it nice. Plumber is here putting a new toilet in my bathroom. Decided the old one was 21 years old so might as well put the money in a new one instead of fixing it not knowing how much longer it would last anyway. Nice that DH gets a nice discount since he works there. The furnace man is here too doing the yearly checkup and changing filters. He'll also look at my fireplace. I'm getting heat but no flame. Miss the ambience so I'll be glad to have that fixed. Hasn't been the best morning since first I heard a friend's DM passed away from covid. Then I heard one of my longtime, best friends passed away too from covid. I'd been meaning to call her since I hadn't talked to her in awhile. I hadn't even realized she'd been sick. Time gets away from me but I'm so mad at myself for not checking in with her and now she's gone. Three people I know have lost now their DM's this past week along with my two friends to covid. Every day it seems we hear of someone else we know has died. Makes me realize just how fortunate DH and I are. Covid wasn't fun when we had it but it could've been so much worse. DH's INR was 3.2 yesterday so it's almost back to normal.
Karen, they say that here too about road construction so it must be universal. My sister was very upset when her DS's FB page was suddenly gone after he'd passed a few years before. She never did know why after all that time it was gone. She'd gotten a lot of comfort "talking" to him on it.
Marsha, thanks for explaining about kosher food.
Pinky, how are you feeling today? You too Anngie?
Robin, thanks for asking. DH went back to work Monday. He's feeling pretty much back to normal.
Carol, DH found my birth certificate yesterday so I can now get the enhanced license too.

I had my cut and color appointment this morning. She met me at the door with a mask on and one in her hand. I already had one, but hadn't put it on yet. Before she always sanitized everything after every appointment, but didn't always wear a mask. She has decided it is bad enough to wear one now. She has type 2 diabetes and her DH has major heart problems so I'm not sure why it took this long for her to decide to wear one while working. She said a man asked what she would do if he took off his mask and she said he wouldn't get a haircut. She couldn't tell if he was trying to be funny or what.
I went to Aldi this morning, too. I got a turkey there. It was cheaper than Walmart. I went early so it wasn't busy. I noticed yesterday at Walmart that there was no toilet paper or paper towels. I'm not sure if we really need to stock up again.
I am expecting DS and DDIL to change their mind about going to see DDIL's mother and then coming here since the word now is stay at home. We really want to see them, but it just seems safer for them to stay home.
I watch Bosch on Amazon Prime. I read where the next season will be the last. I watched 2 season of Mozart in the Jungle. I never did get around to the last season. I like the British Baking Show though I am behind on it.
I've noticed more and more people are having estate or garage sales. We haven't gone to any of them. I would like to go look, but don't really want to be touching all the stuff that others have touched.
We don't have plans for the weekend. We do have a lot of leaves that need to be raked.
We are still having warm weather. Sunday is supposed to be cooler and rainy.

Gareth, we were posting at the same time. I am so sorry about your friends. That is so sad. This is a terrible disease.

Not too much going today or this weekend even. That’s alright, I don’t mind “quiet”.
I haven’t seen hospice patients since mid-March and it doesn’t look like it will be any time soon either. As far as I know, family can’t go to visit either. One of the nursing homes that I did visit now has a spike of ten people - residents and staff. It has to be staff that is bringing Covid in. What a sad state of affairs we’re in.
Karen, I don’t blame you for leaving it for now! I think I read somewhere that if an account isn’t used for a month, it goes away on its own. So, let me know if that’s true! The stabbing pain is now gone (thank goodness). However I’m considering the hip replacement more and more - maybe January or February.
Robin, I just started reading The Ice Queen by Alice Hoffman. Jury’s still out. I just finished Quarter Past Midnight. Well, it’s a novel, ghost story & tale of forgiveness taking place in the Adirondack Mts.! It also mentions Saratoga Springs throughout. It ended up being pretty good. Will you see Maddie this weekend?
Marsha, now I’ll check out The Americans - along with Mrs. Maisel!
Gareth, I’m so sorry for two more deaths! Easy for me to say, I know, but try not to kick yourself too hard. We have good intentions but life gets in the way - that’s why we now stop and think “where has the time gone”?
Carol, maybe DS & DDIL will just come to you for the day? The hotel thing can always be another time. (not sure how far away they live from you)

Loving this weather!!!
Karen--- Don't give me to much crediit, I was only looking to see what the benefits of red rice yeast were and it said that about taking C-Q10 so I just wondered. I may try it but will maybe ask my Dr. about it---but then again maybe I won't. Hope you can get your color---did you happen to ask here about shampoos to use for hair growth/or avoid thinning?
It looks like most of you have hair appts. today!!!
Gareth---sorry about the deaths of so many you know---I am sorry. I feel pretty good but I have to say my back aches for some reason, but the pain down my leg isn't bothering so that is good.
I am not feeling very chatty today----visitation for my DBIL later this afternoon and funeral tomorrow. I feel much sadness about it and also scared about being around more people and COVID----but what do you do. I feel bad we will not be attending visitation because of covid and will be at funeral briefly and the burial---I feel so bad for my sister but she understands.
Hi to all!

Coming on later today too, but really have to be quick. It is a very nice 60 degrees here now, not that I am out.
I went out to Target this morning to buy a portable high chair, but DS called to say that all for tires were stolen off his car. On East 74th Street in Manhattan, in front of a brownstone! Just nuts, but I can't say "New York, New York Is a Wonderful Town" is my kind of song any more. They are not going to come on Sunday, I said that right away because I didn't want them to be stressed about when they are getting the car back. It is at the dealer now.
Karen, we don't keep kosher, so the only time I bought a kosher turkey was when my cousin came for Thanksgiving, because she only eats kosher. I know they taste better, and I had gotten mine at Whole Foods, but I usually won't spend the money on it. I do not get the cheap turkey otherwise, I get a fresh Bell and Evans, not that I make turkey very often. We do brine them, but I know most people do not. We were going to make Prime Rib anyway.
