Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Chilly start, at 27, only going up to 40, but sunny.
Marsha, that is what I remember you said you would most likely do, to get her Wed. And I am sure you do not work Friday....? She will be home then for quite awhile, right? What a horrible school year for all the kids. At my salon yesterday afternoon, a school bus went by and I mentioned how weird that was to see, and my stylist said the kindergartners and 1st graders are going, so they can learn to read. I had not heard about that. Funny, you say you don't have much to do this weekend, then list a whole bunch of stuff!!! Hope you are able to do it all, I know I wouldn't.
Gareth, looks like yesterday was National Hair Salon day, lol!!! Wow, lots going on in your house!! I remember DH putting a new toilet in our bathroom back at the old house. Of course this was maybe 8 years ago. I wouldn't let him do it recently, those toilets are not light! I am so sorry for all of your losses! My goodness. So much grief for you to deal with. Interesting about the FB page disappearing. I think that will be fine, after awhile, it seems my DD's just need something to hold to with him. Since he passed away, I have gone on his page 3 times. I normally don't use his laptop, there is no need, unless I want to clear more stuff out of it.
Carol, did you see what I said to Gareth, about yesterday? That is just so funny, how many of us went to our salon yesterday! When will you hear from DS about their plans for Thanksgiving? Thank you for giving me more shows to look up on Prime. Up here there aren't garage sales now, as it is not the season for it. Usually they are in the spring and summer, but of course this year there weren't many. I was thinking about that, with all the stuff down in the garage, of DH's thing, that maybe next year sometime I could have a man sale. If it will be allowed. I will have to find someone that knows a few things about doing a man sale, so the prices are set correct. Sorry you have leaves to rake. I am so thankful we moved before DH got sick and passed, I would be sitting and crying over all I would have to do on my own with that house!
Anngie, I didn't think you were seeing patients. The thing is, who takes care of them then? Just nurses? Interesting about the FB page going away after a month. Let's see...I was on his Thursday, to announce I would leave it up for awhile, and have no plans of going back on it. So I will check on my FB page in a month if he is gone. I hope you can get the hip surgery done, when you want it done. I am hearing that our hospitals are in a critical state right now, so I wouldn't be surprised if they are canceling elective surgeries, like they did in spring. I am so happy I started watching Mrs Maisel, I think you will enjoy it.
Pinky, I am giving credit where credit is due! I can not believe my then doctor did not point that out. And I feel like a idiot for not reading the label good enough to see that it was advised to take it with the RYR. Between my stylist and the owner of the salon, they said they have been seeing and hearing of people between the stress we are all going through with the virus and having the virus, of loosing their hair. I guess there is even a FB page about it! I have noticed there is less hair on the shower floor the last few times getting out of the shower, so fingers crossed, maybe I am getting over whatever it is that is doing that. If it gets worse again, I will just go buy the Rogaine, and see how that helps. You have my condolences, an awful day for you today. How long was the visitation scheduled for? We just did 30 minutes before the service, then the service was only around 30 minutes. My funeral director was paranoid about us being together like that, but we all had masks and social distanced with the visitors. I have not heard anything about anyone getting the virus from the service. Good luck today.
Robin, OMG! How awful for your DS!!!! Maybe they will get it back today.....? Isn't that weird that Thursday you said you should be doing things for Sunday but weren't? Maybe you had a feeling about it.....Had you started anything for Sunday? Oh my, I get mad just thinking about that happening to them!!! I don't know about there in NY, but here tires are not cheap!! And then the cost of having to have the car be picked up and hauled to the dealer!!! A lot of people here brine their turkey, but I don't. DSIL is making the turkey for Thursday and DD said something about he might smoke it, as he likes smoking things. I am sure he will make the turkey where it will taste delicious. I found a nice recipe for the ham I am making, but need to run and get pineapple juice for the recipe. Prime Rib? Oh god, I love a good prime rib!!! We usually do those on Christmas. Don't know if we will this year, as DH would get involved helping DSIL with it.
Pure blue sky this morning, so all the deer hunters have beautiful weather for the hunt. I know they prefer to have a bit of snow on the ground for tracking, but otherwise it is perfect today. It is very weird not being somehow involved in the hunt this year. If DH had survived, he would be way up north this weekend at his close friends cabin, hunting with the guys.
I was kind of offered a job yesterday. The owner of the hair salon told me to come out to the salon whenever I wanted, they would love to have me come hang out there. She said she would put me to work. How ironic, now, after living out in that area all those years, moving away, she offered that. I love going there, and we all have such a good time when I am there, it kills me to not take her up on it.
Not much to do today, except run the garbage to the dumpster, and pick up my mail. Need to look at my schedule of what needs to be done when for Thursday.
I checked on my SS account, as of this month I am still getting my SS, not DH. I am not surprised, after all, I am dealing with the government.
Have a nice day everyone.

Karen, from what I understand you won't just automatically get DH's SS You'll have to talk to someone there to get it set up. Was that a serious job offer or were they joking around? Are you considering it if it's serious?
Robin, wow! Thieves are so brazen to actually steal four wheels off a car?! I'd be shocked to go to my car and see it was missing all the tires.
Nice, sunny morning only in the 30's. It's suppose to get in the 40's with light wind for a change. I plan on walking outdoors later morning. DH bailed though on going with me. Too cold for him. What a wimp!..haha. I saw this morning on my FB memories that five years ago I posted a couple of pictures of the 12.7" of snow we had. So glad that was then not now!
It was just me and my hairdresser yesterday at my appointment. First time that's ever happened. I loved it! She said she'd had nine cancellations in the last six days. Not sure what was going on with all the other hairdressers. I thought Friday would be a busy day going into the weekend. Felt so good to get my hair cut. I always tell her I feel human again.
It was just burned out bulbs on my fireplace. He had to completely take the fireplace apart to get at them. I see why now DH didn't attempt it. So glad to have flames again! DH still doesn't understand what the big deal was not having them since the heater still worked. Really?! It looks so realistic again now just like having a wood burning fireplace but without the mess. Makes the room so warm and cozy. The remote refuses to work for me. It worked for the serviceman, no problem. Works for DH the same no problem so why doesn't it work for me?! It's just an on and off button. All you do is push it! I'm pushing it just like they do! Evidently the remote doesn't like women!

Robin, sorry about your DS's car. That is really terrible.
My hairdresser has several older ladies who come every week for shampoo and set. She said one of them is flying to Florida for Thanksgiving. Hairdresser told her she would have to quarantine for 2 weeks after she got back or bring proof of a negative test before she would do her hair again. I thought, whoa, hairdresser is taking this very seriously. Good for her.
I know of a couple of kids who instead of going off to college or doing on-line decided to attend the local community college. A lot of it is still on-line, but it is the basics and is so much cheaper. They will transfer after things get back to "normal" and they can go to classes on campus.
We finally found someone to fix our shower. We are going to replace the whole thing and correct some mistakes the guy did 7 years ago when we first had it done. This guy comes highly recommended by a guy who has a construction company and uses him a lot. He is the same guy who recommended the man who did our kitchen and we really liked him. I'm not looking forward to the mess and having people in my house, but of course, it needs to be done.

Robin, I can’t imagine how DS felt seeing his four tires missing! Did he file a report? Out of curiosity, how long had the car been there? I’ve heard it takes seconds/minutes (I guess it depends on how many thieves are involved) for them to do this. How sad.
Karen, the hospice patients I (used to) see are in nursing homes so they are cared for by their staff and then hospice nurses come in as well. Would you choose your own days and hours? If that were the case, maybe it would work for you? Hey, you never know!
Gareth, glad the fireplace is working - completely! lol
Carol, for those students who look ahead, I think it’s a great idea to get a couple of courses behind them by going to a community college.

As far as the car and tires go, they are covered by insurance, and we know very well it will exceed $500, so it doesn't matter what it costs really. The adjuster is coming on Monday to look at the car, and they are going to Massachusetts on Monday, so they will get a rental, and leave it at the dealer. The rental is mostly covered, we will pay the small amount over for them. The car doesn't get moved unless they are going somewhere, but keep in mind that the Upper East Side of Manhattan is really the best area of Manhattan. He is going to get the locking lug nuts, as a deterrent, and maybe another kind of wheel lock. Cheaper than a Manhattan garage, especially for an SUV. It is a brand new Honda CRV, so not only brand new, but one of the most common cars around here, so easy to get rid of the tires for criminals.
Yes it was haircut day, DH had his hair cut. He decided to cut it short, I thought it was getting too long, and really never looked that neat. I really like this cut. I won't need to get mine cut for quite a while yet. Karen, when looking into the Rogaine, you can ask your doctor for a prescription that might be covered by insurance. My DS gets one from his doctor. I would bet you could easily get a part time job if you wanted.
Gareth, maybe people in Iowa are starting to get serious about protecting themselves against the virus. With all the deaths you have been experiencing in the past week, I think it is more than I have heard about personally since the beginning, and the first 2 were clients with major underlying health conditions, and the other is someone who came to us to probate his father's estate since he died of COVID, so not really someone I knew.
Carol, glad you found someone to fix the shower. Those can be very tricky. Right now we have a leak from our skylight. Our roofer tried a quick patch, which didn't work, but I called him and he forgot to call back, and I haven't called again. Trying to decide whether to replace the skylight, or take it out, and re-roof that section, and re-do the ceiling. I wanted him to give me prices on both.
As far as tomorrow's dinner, once we had the menu down, I realized I didn't need to start as far in advance as I thought, so had done nothing. I bought cranberries, which I can just throw in the freezer, and an orange cauliflower, which will keep. I will keep checking it, and hopefully it will keep until Chanukah, I have to tell them we will just do that. Then I will probably make brisket and potato pancakes. I can have them either December 12th or 13th. At least I picked up the portable high chair for Maddie. I will see how it fits on one of the dining room chairs. I bought a toy at Big Lots that she already had, but it was so inexpensive I will just keep it, and maybe go back there to look for other bargains. I bought her a lot of books, so will give her those.
I did my usual check of positive COVID cases, oh my, Texas and CA each had over 13,000 positives yesterday! And Illinois just under 13,000. Not that NY had anything to brag about with it's 5400, but nowhere near the others. I don't know if I want to stop watching, but it is just so scary. What are people thinking? I just don't know.

Gareth, you must not remember all I talked about last month, talking with SS on the phone, and all the forms I had to fill out, in order to get DH monthly check, instead of mine, since his of course was more than mine. That is why I said I was kind of offered a job, as with how she presented it, was: I will put you to work, so I think it was just an off handed offer, to come sit there with them, and she could find me things to do, but not sure she can even afford to have someone there that is not doing hair. But every time I call there, it rings and rings, as whoever is there doing hair, has to stop and answer the phone, so maybe she was thinking of something like that. But just as everyone else is saying about their hair salons, it is not busy at all. I was shocked that calling on Thursday, I was able to get in the next day. I can not remember that ever happening before. Lol, you sound like you are jinxed! I used to have that happen to me also, whatever I was trying to get to turn on, I could not do it, but DH could. Made me feel like an idiot.
Carol, yay on the new guy for the shower!!! We too saw, earlier in the pandemic that the customer service side of things were leaving a lot to be desired. When is he starting the shower reno? I can not live without my shower. It's nice that it is a walk in. The master bedroom has it's own bathroom, with a tub and shower, but I don't want to go back to stepping up like that, with a tub. My DBIL was trying to convince me to switch my bedroom to the master, as when we moved in here I took the guest room, and DH took the master. (Yes, we have slept in separate bedrooms for years), anyway, if you look at it his way (DBIL) it does make sense to move into the other room, but I like my room.
Anngie, it occurred to me that the patients were in nursing homes, after I posted this morning....where else would you be treating them, in their homes? Lol. I really do not think I would take Rhonda up on her offer. I think it was offered because they were all so happy to see me, what with all that has happened in my life this year, I am sure they worried how I was coping. I really do not want to get back in that merry go round, especially with having to take the highway up north again. I really, really do not miss that!!!
Robin, you are as bad as me!!! I love it!!!! Of course you will pay for the small amount over....I have 1 DD that would need that help, and of course we, or should I now say, I would cover it. They know DH and I (were) are a soft touch, and obviously you are the same soft touch!! Not a darned thing wrong with that!! Oh, what an excellent idea!!! I did not know that about Rogaine!! I see my doctor December 14th. But I have noticed there does not seem to be as much hair on the bottom of the shower the last few days, so crossing my fingers it is done! Robin, I had to quit watching the national news every night, either I was getting depressed by it or very angry. Maybe you should quit watching all those darned numbers!!! There is nothing we can do about them, except keep doing what we are doing. You do not need all that stress.
I took a break from working on the tree, all I have left to do now is finish shaping the top part. For that I have to get on a step stool. At least most of the tree is done with that. I am hoping to trim it tomorrow, as I decided I want to have all my Christmas decorating done for Thanksgiving, as everyone will be here for that, but as it looks, I won't be having anyone at Christmas time. I love leaving the tree lights on every night now, it is like having a brightly lit night light.
Got the check in the mail this morning, for the refund on DH end of life policy. DD messaged me to see if I was interested in buying a brick in memory of DH at our local zoo, with the brick going in the deer area. Well that is a no brainer!!! Of course!!! So maybe Monday I will look into it. That will work out nicely, as I have the money we received from people, in the mail and at the service in our saving account, which I was going to donate it either to our local humane society or our wildlife sanctuary. But I really like the brick idea.
Ok, break time is over, back to the tree!!!

Oh, that brick idea is so nice Karen. That will be great. I know that all the charities are having trouble now because the kind of fundraising they always did is so limited. Oh, what you have to ask the doctor for is not Rogaine, it is the generic equivalent. Anyway, you can make sure there is no bad interaction with that and what else you take. Good news on getting that check. It's possible that they will give you money retroactively for what they owe you.

Good morning. Same weather, different day. Boring in other words.
Robin, oh, I see, about the generic Rogaine. Now I can't wait for my doctor apt! I was reading up on google about hair loss, (there is a name for it, but can't remember what it is, it starts with an A.), and it said that in most cases even with Rogaine, there is a good chance I will be disappointed, with results. But I want to give it a try. About the brick, I will check the Zoo out online and see how that is handled.
How is everyone doing today? Getting closer and closer to turkey day. I start cooking Tuesday. Today is decorating day. Spent some time yesterday looking over my new medicare supplement for January. It seems weird not to have silver sneakers, but I have not been to the Y since March, and refuse to go till things are way better, so it most likely won't be next year either. So I get $550 to use on whatever, could be dental, could be eyes. Every little bit helps.
Woke up from a dream this morning, I remember just a tiny bit of it, and what I remember of it was DH was here, just like normal times. That made me happy. I truly feel he is here with me.
Told my DD's, who both have a birthday (along with me, and a DGD) in December, that I would take them out for dinner. Now we just have to figure out where and when. The where, I am going to do a lot of research and hopefully find a nice place that is still doing outdoor service. I am sure there are places that will have their patios set up till the winter gets really bad, and also have the big heaters. I just have to find them! I wish my DB was still in town, as he was a Chauffeur all these past years, he could run us around.
Still looking for another book to replace the one I finished the other day.
Have a nice Sunday everyone.

Karen, what did your hairdresser say about your hair loss? Were you able to color it? What we've been doing with birthdays instead of going to a restaurant has been to get takeout instead. Everyone has been happy with that. I always love it when I dream of my parents. It's comforting. What a great idea with the brick!
The fireplace remote is toying with me! Now it'll turn on for me but not off. Still works all the time for DH. Looks like to be another nice day for walking in the 40's. Maybe I can convince DH to walk with me later morning. He has such a phobia about being cold and no, it's nothing new. He's always complaining about being cold. He jacks the heat up, has a heater going in his office and still will have a heated wrap over him. He questioned me when I got back from my walk if I wasn't cold yesterday. He thought I should've dressed warmer. No, I'd have been too warm then. I've really enjoyed walking outdoors again the last four days.

We just cancelled our trip! I called to confirm, to check how vigilant they are, and guess what, Massachusetts put NY on their quarantine list. We could get the rapid test, but then why do we really want to go? DH said if I won't do indoor dining here, why do it there, and truthfully, I was a bit concerned about it. We are on our way to Costco to stock up. I told DH I am not going to cook, but then again I am starting already to break down and say why do I want to pay one of the restaurants we like $68 per person for Thanksgiving dinner? Might by a turkey for DH to smoke, maybe just a turkey breast, because DH only likes white meat. And, what do you think I really like, the skin! I might even go with stove top stuffing, but doctor it up a bit. Maybe I will make that cranberry sauce after all.
Karen, you are talking about alopecia, but I am not sure if that is what you have. It is not uncommon for women to lose hair as they age.

Robin, I think that really was a wise choice to cancel. No sense taking any chances. You can keep it simple and still have a nice Thanksgiving meal. Smoking a turkey breast sounds wonderful. I'm like your DH just liking white meat.

Robin, sorry about your trip.
Karen, the brick sounds like a great idea as a way to honor your DH.
Gareth, DD and DSIL have a remote for their streaming services that I cannot work. They keep saying it's easy, but I either push too hard or not hard enough. Drives me crazy.
It is a little cooler today, 52 degrees. We had a little bit of rain earlier this morning.
We don't have a start date yet for the bathroom. DH hardly ever uses that bathroom. He likes to soak in the bathtub in the main bath. Like I said, I just hope it doesn't take long and they don't find some big. expensive problem.
Yes, Texas numbers for Covid are crazy high. DH said someone at his work said they were going to have the usual big family Thanksgiving. I know it was on the internet, but I'm not where, but whoever it was said the whole Covid thing should have been handled by public health people rather than politicians. I'm sure some people would do whatever they want, no matter who is in charge. Oklahoma's governor still refuses to issue a mask order. He is going to have Thanksgiving with his elderly parents.

Carol, that is just crazy. And, I heard that some parents in Missouri had a big get together for kids in a steakhouse that turned into a super spreader event. And I don't even want to talk about all the fall out from the Trump post election stuff, now Don Jr. and Guliani's son? How can they not stand up to that idiot when it is sweeping through the White House like wildfire?
I don't think we would have been particularly unsafe going where we were going, there is a very low incidence there. We just went to Costco. Haha, we already spent more than we were going to spend on the hotel, however we bought new silverware for every day, bath sheets, because ours were getting ratty, and a lot of food. We are going to make prime rib for Thanksgiving. Maybe I will get myself a rotisserie chicken from one of the restaurants that I like, at some point over the weekend.
