Welcome to our 2020 Alcohol Free All The Way Board!
If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board, you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you? Or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? Did you finish the bag of chips? cookies? or just spend the evening grazing? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgment that we have been there, done that and know we need and get the support from this great group of women and men.
Whether you are choosing to be AF or find you can achieve AIM (maximum of one drink per day for women and maximum of two drinks per day for men), please join us if you feel this challenge meets your needs.
The main focus of this board is to be ALCOHOL FREE. The focus of our new challenge is to commit ourselves to success, one day at a time, one hour at a time....success breeds success! Follow a healthy food plan, exercise and stay AF.
As with all of our challenges, everyone is welcomed. For some making the commitment for the entire challenge is the way to go, but day by day is also a way to go. No one is cut from the challenge, and if you don't want to be part of the challenge, you are still welcome to post.

ALMOST TIME TO SWITCH FROM MY DAILY ANXIETY TO MY FANCY CHRISTMAS/NEW YEAR ANXIETY OR CHOOSE ACCOUNTABILITY NEW CHALLENGE November 1 through December 31
Accountability: experiencing consequences for performance or actions. Accountability is essential for an organization, for a society, and for a person. Anxiety: a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease, typically about an imminent event or something with an uncertain outcome.
In other words, with accountability, a person will assume ownership of their own action because they will face consequences. With anxiety, a person will put enormous pressure on themselves by worry or fear.
Accountability is what we’ll call it, but think of it as both incentive and insurance. It helps to keep one in control and not let anxiety take over. The Anxiety will not get you anywhere. The holidays are coming and no amount of crash dieting or excessive eating/drinking or letting stress take over, will delay the inevitable. Establishing accountability helps us to stay the course, even when our former ways tempt us. If a little accountability is good, and more is better, then let’s go all in on this challenge. Leave the anxiety out of the equation.
What should we be accountable for in this challenge? Pick one, all, or anything in between. Feel free to add your own accountability goal and let others join you.
ACCOUNTABILITY CHOICES!
FRESH START MONDAY! What is your accountability for the week? What anxiety will you let go of?
MOVE MORE ACCOUNTABILITY Every little bit helps and definitely helps anxiety.
SLEEP ACCOUNTABILITY Have you established a routine?
NUTRITION ACCOUNTABILITY Ugly and good days Drink more water Drink your height in water….68 inches tall equals 68 ounces of water….add 8 ounce every seven days One or more fruit daily One or more vegetable daily Track nutritional intake Grocery List Share a healthy recipe Low Sugar, limit added sugar to 24 grams or less Pre lose the five pound holiday gain AF/AIM/AIE
JOURNAL YOUR NUTRITION ACCOUNTABILITY
HAPPINESS ACCOUNTABILITY
What did you do for yourself today? Motivational quote
HABIT ACCOUNTABILITY What new habit are you establishing?
CHECK IN DAILY ACCOUNTABILITY Scale of 1 -5 …how is your day going? Just say NO - not saying yes to every request will help to control anxiety.
TIME MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTABILITY Need to do, should do, want to do Organize yourself with lists. Lists can help reduce anxiety.
Let's be accountable and supportive to each other. As always no judgement, just encouragement, and if needed, tough love though we are usually toughest on ourselves. Set your accountability goals and let's get to work. Let’s be healthier versions of ourselves come January 1.

DH & I walked the nature trail, noticed that several of my decorated shells have been moved to different places along the trail. It's fun to look for changes and there were a few new rocks left by others. Dove deep into the closet in my craft room and found a couple of unopened boxes, one of which had my Mom's pattern for the Christmas stocking. It was in an old Woman's Day magazine and is a little worse for the wear. Scanned it into a PDF document to send to my niece. I emptied out the two boxes and put the contents away. Worked on the outside lights a little more before the rain started. The big chill is coming. It's in the mid-40's now but the temperature is supposed to drop into the 20's tonight. This will be the test of how cold it gets in the basement. There's something wrong with the electric circuit that the basement outlet is on. The outside lights are on a timer, when they kicked on last evening, everything on that circuit went out and resetting the switch did not fix it. DH is calling an electrician today. It's also very windy this morning. It left an umbrella on the covered front porch to dry, it's gone this morning, apparently gone with the wind.
Jan- WTG OP, AF, steps, supporting small business. Hope you were able to finish your stocking. I did not realize your son had such musical talent!
Murphy- Glad you slept well, sorry you were late for church.
GG- Hope your headache is gone and you are feeling less tired.
Cindy- Hope your RA doc has as answer for your tiredness. The neighbor girl is definitely the one that left the Boo basket. She's quite outgoing for her age, she came over one of the trips we made with stuff before we moved in to find out if we had any kids her age. I love her name, Callie Calender. Our oldest DS played the baritone in middle school band, picked up the bass guitar in high school.
Cathy- Hope you got a nap after your late night.

Countdown to retirement - 31 days!
Good morning all! I got most of the Christmas decorations out yesterday. I think I will put up my small tree this evening after work. That way I won't have to move furniture and it will be done in a jiffy. But I will still have some pretty lights to look at. I brought my ceramic tree in to the office and set it up this morning. Last year I'll be using it here! I will find a special place at home for it next year!
Amy - I love hearing about the adventures of your shells and rocks! I just think that is so neat! So sorry about the electrical issues. I know you want to get that fixed so Annie will be happy! Yay for finding the stocking pattern! I have hidden my ugly Christmas sweater somewhere and I cannot remember where! It's not like there are that many places it could be! I thought I had packed it up with the Christmas decorations but haven't seen it so far.
Jan - did you finish the stocking? I know you are happy to be ready to ship your presents! Will DS get to come home for Christmas?
GG - are you feeling better?
Cathy - did you get a nap? I guess I should have tried to take a nap Saturday afternoon. Since I slept so much that night I obviously needed the rest! LOL I just took my time with the decorating yesterday. I would do a little and then sit and surf the internet for a while.
Cindy - I used to play piano but haven't in years and years. I keep saying that I will get an electric keyboard and try to pick it back up. That might be a good retirement goal! You and DS are so talented! Hope the RA doctor gets back to you quickly.
Carole - are you headed home today?
This week is going to be busy and that's a good thing. It's raining now and the temps are supposed to drop all day. They are even saying we might have snow flurries by afternoon! Time for sweaters and leggings! LOL Hope everyone has a great day! Murphy

Quote: If you're not changing it, you're choosing it. "If you don't take care of your body, where are you going to live?" ACCOUNTABILITY, NOT ANXIETY November 1 - December 31 November 1 start weight: 202.3 November 8: 202.6 November 15: 201.7 November 22: 202.2 November 29: 203.5 December 6 December 13: December 20: December 27: December 31 final weight: Good morning all. Had a nice quiet day yesterday, worked on the things I wanted, read the papers, danced around upstairs and cleaned out some things. I'm on the decreasing of the toe of my stocking and could finish today if I set my mind to it. I was digging out all the yarn I got from JJ which is all spun wool. My next project is to try to knit and felt a cat cave like the one I bought, good way to use up some yarn and try something new. No other big plans for the day. I cooked up my turkey carcass yesterday and will finish some kind of soup today. It's gray and cold here today too but no snow forecast. Not sure if I"ll get out of the house or not, would like to snoop Home Goods for a few things but it's not essential. I'm trying to get each person on my list a little something to open, even if we don't see each other this year, but then I'm sending them all a note that says I'm making a donation in their name somewhere...like my sis will be to the Humane Society, my SIL to the food bank. None of us need more stuff and there is so much need everywhere this year it makes me crazy to keep padding the pockets of Amazon and Walmart so guess they will all just have to be happy with that . I'm also working to finish an album of cabin photos, all the way back to when it was built and all my mom's old pics, to leave at the cabin, so that's my family gift. Think it really goes with the TOTD, thanks for that Amy. Hope you all have a nice day and are ready to usher in the last month of this crazy year with Joy. Jan Amy. Hope the electricians can figure out the mess. We have some coming this week to work on an outside outlet so I can put my wreath etc on a timer out there. Glad you found the pattern, I thought she wanted you to make it for her. Maybe you'll see your umbrella somewhere in the neighborhood. I am on Nextdoor here, neighborhood chat/watch I guess, I've seen people post things like that when random things show up at their house. Also good for lost animals. Murphy When I read your post I went over and turned on my little ceramic tree. I'm sure you sweater will show up. Glad you got the decorations up and can enjoy the lights. Do what makes you happy, not what you think you HAVE to do! Ds won't be home for Christmas, maybe why I'm not feeling the decorating part. He drew Christmas and Mardi Gras to work, everyone has to do 2 major holidays. I'm hoping if things look any better in the spring, maybe we can take a trip down there in March or April. GG. Hope your head is better today. I was feeling crabby when I tracked my breakfast on WW this morning it says a 1 day streak. Yesterday I was at 47, I tracked, but now it's starting over. Does it only let you go so far? Not a big deal but I liked seeing those numbers add up. I guess I should be more happy with my 3!! whooping day AF streak!! Need to get that one up to 47!! Working at it! Cathy. Your DH sounds quite resourceful and he'll probably figure out some kind of growing solution for the winter. Hope you got your nap. I'm sure DS will get back to his music someday. Hope your DS is wrong about Covid but I feel like that too sometimes, how long can we avoid it. My sis said she has 3 patients today for PT that are either on quarantine because they are coming off it or have already had it....but how do you know they still can't spread it. She does have to wear full PPE during home visits but seems crazy. I'm the spring she had to stay home 4 weeks because they were so careful and weren't taking patients, now when it's full blown in Wisconsin and Mich. it's back to work like usual. Cindy. Hope everything is protected from the freeze and buttoned down. Yuck about the rat but good to catch any activity now!! I'm still dreaming about things busting into the cabin, last night it was some kind of pig or wild boar! The neighbors got home last night, it's like Finn knew. He wanted out this morning even in the cold!! Scout is currently sleeping on top of the radiator "bench", he lives the good life. See when the other one returns!! Hi to all. Make it a great MOnday.

Hi girls. My headache is just kind of there. I’m going to try Tylenol. It worked yesterday! I decided I’m getting up and doing stuff regardless. My goal is 250 steps per hour. That’s always a good place for me to start. I’m going room by room and getting them back in order. That will help too. Hoping DH gets the tree out of the attic today. Maybe if I ask nicely! He went to the dr this morning and his blood pressure meds are working! Yay! I went to a virtual workshop this morning, it always gets me motivated!
Cindy: How often do you sit down and play the piano?
Cathy: I’m a firm believer in naps!
Amy: Do you have one of those policies where the past owner has to fix things?
Murphy: I remember how much you love looking at your Christmas tree lights. Me too!
Jan: I don’t know why you lost your streak unless you tracked it this morning? I love your 3 AF day streak!

Yesterday was an AF day! I want to thank you for all the emotional support while I am going through this downward spiral of feeling sorry for myself. Today I am setting small goals for myself which will be weighing and measuring again and being accountable for my food intake. I'll also set time aside for knitting and not throw myself in front of the TV watching Christmas movies, binge watching Virgin River, and the Undoing. Too much TV! I might do some retail therapy since it is Cyber Monday. December's goals are to finish the "BIG" blanket, and to have more AF days than I did in November. Amy~ I love your little neighbor's name! Yay for finding the pattern and sending it on its way. Murphy~ I need to get my ceramic tree out too. What a great idea buying a keyboard, I think that would make a wonderful Christmas gift for yourself! Jan~ I would like to see a picture of your stocking when you are finished! I think my mojo is lurking out there too, hope it pays a visit soon! GG~ Glad the Tylenol worked yesterday and hope it works today. Yay for DH's blood pressure meds starting to work. Carole~ I can't wait to find out what the body exhibition consisted of too! Hope you are enjoying yourself! Cindy~ Snakes??? Please don't tell me you have snakes around to kill rats, ugh!! I hate both but snakes scare the sh#t out of me. Boy you are really on top of Christmas gifts and getting them ready to be mailed out! Cathy~ I think placing tree in your reading room would be so cozy. I love to knit with my tree lights on and a candle burning and the fireplace too.

Well I got my small tree put up and decorated in about a half hour as soon as I got home from work. It's really cute! And I'm glad I put the small one up instead of trying to wrestle the big one in from the garage. With the little one, I can just pick it up and plunk it down on the table! And I found my ugly Christmas sweater! It was packed away in the last box of stuff. The temps dropped through the day and I'm already in my pj's with some thick socks on!
GG - I hate that your headache is hanging on! I'm so glad that the meds are working for DH!
Liz - I will have to put myself on a TV diet or I will spend way too much time doing nothing!
Going to scramble an egg for supper. Everyone have a good evening! Murphy

Hi All!
Last day of November...just so amazed that all has been so slow and yet so fast this year. I think I have been feeling it is all a bit scattered. Usually when I do Christmas cards I lack for something different to write about...not this year!
Felt really out of control this morning...which direction to go in...finally decided the gifts I bought for my DB and DSIL weren't right...DSIL's birthday is in January so I will use it for her then. Happy with what I bought for other DB and DSIL. Packed up my "soul sister"'s box...so that is done....I don't have many but for whatever reason I need to feel comfortable with what I am giving.
The house is a jumbled mess...thinking tomorrow morning I will bring the trash barrel close to the back door and just keep throwing stuff into it. I usually get a bit stressed but this year has been worse...I think some of it is stuff I purchased in November for gifts has not arrived! Oh well, make do.
Amy, love your little "Boo"'s name. Glad you were able to find your Mom's pattern...nice that it is being passed on. Hope the electrician showed up and that Annie is snuggled in her bed. It is getting into the twenties tonight too! Did my best getting stuff protected. Was your umbrella retrieved? I just love the shells and rocks giving...have you found out how it started? Love the TOTD.
Murphy, glad you were able to get out your Christmas decorations. The Christmas lights just bring joy. I miss my Dad's candlelight services with all the accompanying Christmas lights. Glad you found your ugly Christmas sweater...is it really ugly? DS has several and he gets compliments...prancing dinosaurs, prancing cats, llama with scarf...yup, overboard but made the older customers happy. We will see if that works at this place! Did you get snow flurries?
Jan, the family gift of the photo album is wonderful! I wish my brothers and I would give up giving each other stuff, none of us need anything but my Mom asked me to give something each year and remember birthdays so we would keep in touch...I think she must have told them the same. I agree about the TOTD. Okay, so what music are you listening and dancing? I love the different personalities of the kittens.
Cathy, your husband is resourceful! I have to keep in mind the extreme sunshine we can get...one doesn't think it will happen and suddenly stuff is faded or has died. I like the idea of a lighted tree in your sitting room. I have nice memories of sitting near a lighted Christmas trees. It is nice to have those memories recalled.
GG, I hope the headache disappeared! So not fun! Glad DH's BP meds are working. My rooms are so scattered except for the piano room...my refuge. I don't play regularly but tried to do some each week....I started at 3 imitating my oldest brother...parents wouldn't let me take lessons (pay for them) until I was 4. Working on my Christmas tunes now. If my hands ache I need to take a break. Aah, the golden years.
Carole, did you head home today?
Liz, hugs and more hugs. Let us help lift you up. It has been an odd, to say the least, year. Your surgeries have made it so much more difficult for you. Hugs! We just have snakes in general...they do eat the rodents but I certainly don't like them near by. My Mom let my brother keep a snake on the dining room table...that way she could check where it was. Our schools would have snakes in the classrooms for study, and if one got loose, my brother would be called upon to find the snake. Snakes don't bother me but I don't want rats anywhere near.
Made plans with a friend to go out for lunch on Thursday. She is an anti mask person but she knows I appreciate her wearing one so she does. The restaurant does social distancing and all personnel wear masks. I just want an outing with a friend no conversational bars. She tested negative today.
Hugs to all, heading to bed to read a bit then sleep. Cindy

Time Management Accountability: doing okay though could have better balance/variations in what I am doing
ACCOUNTABILITY, NOT ANXIETY November 1 - December 31
November 1 start weight: 176.4 November 8: 174.8 November 15: 177.4 November 22: 177.4 November 29: 175.2 December 6 December 13: December 20: December 27: December 31 final weight:
DECEMBER Number of Days AF: Number of Days AIM Number of Days AIE:
ACCOUNTABILITY NOT ANXIETY! DON'T OVERWHELM YOURSELF... Step by step brings results!
MONDAY: AF...was OP till evening then kind of dipped into the weeklies for some pasta It is a new month and I want to be lower on the scale January 1 so...that will be my focus. It is gray and drizzling outside. We might go pick up produce, a chicken and some eggs but otherwise should be set for another week. No nap yesterday but slept really well last night
My daughter sent a package to us and said it has...canned pumpkin and evaporated milk. I am scratching my head on that one as though they are not available here they are expensive to ship. I have no idea what all is in the package BUT will find out if/when it gets here. She sent it priority fast with tracking so it must have been expensive and no doubt NOT worth it but she wanted to do a "test" and might then send more in the future if it comes through okay.
AMY: Sorry about the electricity problem and the umbrella gone with the wind! Your nature walk sounds fun and filled with much to see. What will you do when the weather is below freezing? Will you continue to walk outside?
MURPHY: I am looking forward to cool weather and now wonder if I may wear the lined leggings my daughter brought a few years ago? I am not sure about the tops to wear with them as I don't have a lot of warm sweaters or fleece tops...hmmm...
JAN: I love the idea of a family album with the history of your cabin as a family gift for the holiday! Be sure to put the date in of your creating it. I also love the idea of donations in the names of those you gift as you are gifting not only the person you give in the name of but the place the money goes to. When the pandemic began i had a younger friend that shopped for us. That went on for about a month during the time when the cases were lower and we were super cautious. We are still being safe and not going out except as we need to BUT the friend no longer shops for us. I won't go out to bars every night as the young friend who shopped for us has been doing but am doing my own shopping, wearing mask when out and about, using sanitizer, and being safe as I can.
GG: I hope your headache is better soon!
LIZ: Your post has me tracking in a new way - thank you. I don't have the TV temptation but do get hooked reading and need to get more activity in. We can make December better than November!
CINDY: I hope you have a good time with your friend and enjoy a tasty meal. You are so good about getting presents, wrapping and then getting them into the mail!
