She's a young woman. I am willing to cut her some slack, let her learn the ropes and learn from her mistakes. I think her heart is in the right place. Common sense needs to catch up to her heart. Just wondering if she was a young man would so many be a little more forgiving? Just a little? Give her time. Hopefully soon she will be a boring old politician and we can complain about that.

surfgirl, I agree with you 100% about AOC. I think her large following on Twitter makes her feel like she's got a mandate but, she can be like a junkyard dog about it. I get the impression she believes she can't learn anything from her more experienced colleagues. I think Labor could be right in Bernie's wheelhouse but, I don't think he'd ever be confirmed. DotRen, "can't bark all the time" - perfect. birdgal, I don't feel like cutting her some slack. lol We're on a knife's edge with so much. As bbbearsmom, eluded to earlier, AOC's group helped get the party branded as socialists. Fear of socialism absolutely cost some house seats this election. Judy I think dems gained 40 seats in 18'

Both parties are going to have some extremists. I'll take ours any day.

Biden has picked New Mexico Representative Deb Haaland as Interior Secretary. She will be the first Native American to hold that post. She was one of two Native Americans to be the first sworn into the House when she was elected in 2018. As she said in her ads for that election, she is fierce.

Judy I think dems gained 40 seats in 18' Agree with all of this! Junkyard dog is a great description. I know a lady here in town who likes to be the "Fuck em, let's uprise" sort of gal. Fine, I have no problem with people-powered change because that's what our country should be about. BUT, she once was talking about something I knew a lot about from a development/public health perspective and she kept saying how we all should protest and this and that and I said, NO, it's not just about pressure from the People, there has to be pressure to change from within a system, and in order to do that often moderate folks have to start paving the way for that door to even open. And I think AOC just thinks you go in a kick the door down and BAM! Lasting change is done. It's not that easy, and it doesn't work that way, if it did a lot of things would be different - some we'd like and some we wouldn't like. Change has to occur at many levels and I just think her type of attitude is juvenile and show a lack of maturity. I'd hope Bernie would sit her ass down and have a chat with her because I think she has potential but she has to learn to compromise. And yes, if she was a man I'd say and think the same about her, probably more so.

I saw a report on runoff elections. At least in Georgia, according to the report, runoffs were instituted so that if the vote had been split among different white candidates, the white voters could be counted on to all vote for whichever white candidate was in the runoff, thus defeating the black candidate. The report went on to say not all runoffs were established with racial motives in mind, the states that do have them as standard practice are all in the south.
DH got us signed up for the free trial of HBO Max. We saw Good Trouble, a film about John Lewis. DH had read the book and loved it. The film was inspiring and disheartening at the same time. The will and energy for the supression of Black votes doesn't seem like it will ever end in some states.

Good God, leave McCain alone already - he's the better man, even now! Adding: if the only person you can beat is dead, time to hang up the gloves, "champ".

Lol! A lying, cheating weakling bashing a war hero. And yet, the Evangecials and the Party of God, worship the weak coward. Traitors good - patriots bad. Perhaps it really is the End Times. Up is down, good is bad, Reasonable is replaced with illogical.

lani, I think New Hampshire use to have runoff elections, not sure if they have them now. One time they never selected a Congressional Representative during the two year term because even though they kept having runoff elections none of the candidates could get over 50% of the vote.

But, but, he had boo-boos on his footsies. What was it hang nails or something like that?
I actually did write draft dodger the first time I wrote this. Then I felt a little guilt because I knew a couple of guys who opposed the war back then. Honestly, I didn't blame them.
They both did eventually sign up. Only one of them came home. Sigh.

I don't think Trump dodged the draft because he was morally opposed. I think he dodged the draft because he's a lily livered coward. Even then he cared nothing for this country.

Do these people, who can't feed their families or pay their rent, but they're sending $$ to his "fund" really think he cares one little bit about them? He doesn't!

It is unbelievable how people are taken in by this carnival barker.
What do they see that I don't? What do they hear?
If I had a few people gassed a little bit to clear a way for me to stand in front of a church and hold a bible upside down do you think they'd send me money?
