Seven Habits for Highly Healthy Holidayswww.orthocarolina.com/media/seven-habits-for-highly-healthy-holidaysThe holiday season is upon us. It’s the time of the year to enjoy celebrating and spending time with family and friends; however, for many, it’s also the time of the year that disrupts schedules and interrupts progress with health goals. Inevitably, it seems, goals and progress are placed on hold until it’s time for New Year’s resolutions, and unfortunately, research shows that those resolutions are rarely reached. This year, make a change by following these seven simple habits for healthy holidays:
Habit Five – Create Something New
While no one wants to be the person who shows up for the family meal with kale smoothies, it’s okay to be the leader when it comes to making one small change this year. All traditions were the new kid on the block at one time. Perhaps, add a tag football game to the itinerary or add one healthy recipe this year. It’s an excellent opportunity to lead by example.
NOTE: Not this year for tag football...not in this pandemic BUT something new? Maybe a family zoom interaction?
Comment, if you want to Commit to a challenge, if you want to Try a new recipe and share if you want to Try something new and healthy
Hope you have a good week

I like the idea of taking something (or sending something) healthy to a friend or family. It could be a healthy recipe, cooked dish, non-edible item for the house, kitchen, or a game or...whatever.
I had an email from my daughter asking about 7 Spice mix and what goes into it so sent off that information this morning to her via email and WhatsApp.
I will commit this week to:
* Tracking every BLT on ITB * Walking at least 20 minutes each day * Hydrating * Staying positive * Trying something new
DebDoesWW, How did you do grabbing an apple when something else called you from the kitchen if/when you were stressed?
doordie50, Did you do better with your five fruit-veg this week?

* I got in two more apples than last week and some good blueberries too. So three days at five and four at four.
Our normal celebration at my brother's with all the extended family will resume next year. In recent years we've taken a big fruit and cheese platter and wine to enjoy as we gather well ahead of the big meal.
I'll have to think about trying something new.

cathygeha managed to grab an apple a day ☺️ Since I am doing the holiday meals this year I have switched all of the recipes up using either WW recipes or some other lightened version. My mom was just happy to not have to cook anything. 🤣

I just read what I committed to for the week...and did not track it all last night...I don't think? So just put in ten points more for last night...hope that is around what I had. I also need to walk 20 minutes this morning...had thought about NOT walking but...I did commit
doordie50, Great that you had more fruit just as you planned to! Let us know what "new" thing you try.
DebDoesWW, Good job with the apples! We don't have many in the market and the ones available are not so great at the moment. What WW recipes are you making for Christmas?

cathygeha, When I miss tracking I guess too. It has served me well in the past. Thank you for these wonderful posts! Something new for the holidays: I'm going to drink water. Usually I grab soda or sparkling cider or sometimes wine. But these are extra points I don't need, plus it's hard staying hydrated in the cooler months.

Hydration is important year round and you are not the only one who has mentioned it being more difficult in winter. You can always heat the water with a bit of lemon if that helps...might continue the thread next year IF I can find something worth posting

Count me in as having guessed when I've missed tracking a meal. It's gotta be somewhere in the ballpark after all these years, right? lol
I'm going to copycat you ladies and try to get better hydrated. There's no downside and my skin will surely thank me. The reusable water bottle I have holds 16 ozs. I'm going to commit to getting one additional bottle in a day.

At this point in our health journey and friendship with WW we all have an idea of how many points/calories we are eating and staying accountable by writing ANYTHING down is better than not tracking at all!
As for the water goal...here's to being a success at guzzling water throughout the day...or sipping it

cathygeha for Christmas I am going to go easy after the 2day cookathon that was Thanksgiving. I am just going to be using a recipe that is probably 30+ years old that I got out of a Kraft Recipe book that I got at the supermarket (and then had to buy a copy off eBay after Harvey) because it was one of my favorites. The recipe is for spinach lasagna and it has become a family favorite. My grandma always made lasagna for Christmas ❤️ www.myfoodandfamily.com/recipe/051636/spinach-lasagna-recipeSuper easy and really good!

DebDoesWW, That looks like a tasty recipe, easy to make, and hard to make here as many of the ingredients are not available or would need to be swapped out. I will share it with my sister, though

Peanut butter pie? Oh my! Every time my parents would come visit me at college we would go to Marie Callender's and as the school was vegetarian I would have a cheeseburger and...peanut butter pie. In Saudi Arabia I found a recipe for frozen peanut butter pie with a chocolate layer on top...decadent! Haven't had either for AGES!

plus it's hard staying hydrated in the cooler months. Flavored water enhancers have really helped me with this. Currently the MIO orange and vanilla one is helping me hit my water goal. It reminds me of a creamsicle, it is really good!
