We are a group of like-minded people that gather to discuss a host of topics from weight loss, to current events. Our thread celebrates liberal diversity, welcomes new friends, and respects all opinions. We count everything from calories to points but, we never count our chickens before they've hatched!

Nunes steps aside from the Russia investigation. About time.

Another day, same old chaos in the WH, but maybe there is some hope in sight for the mid-terms: "Here's the latest evidence the energized Democratic base is showing up in fundraising: ActBlue, which processes contributions for Democratic candidates and groups, took in more than $111 million from 4.1 million donors in the first quarter of 2017. That's more than four times the fundraising total from this point two years ago." -- CNN's 4-5-17 nightly newsletter One good thing you can say about Tweety is that he has energized Democrats.

Whoa! HnyBny, I hadn't seen that. You're right that it is definitely time. He definitely can not be trusted to lead any investigation. I still think there needs to be an independent investigation, but at least this appears to be a step in the right direction. If there's nothing to hide, then they should not be so afraid of an independent investigation. Let's get it all out in the open and let the chips fall where they may. Crimes were committed or they were not, but either way it is important that the truth come out and the sooner the better.

Nunes is being investigated by the ethics committee so I don't think he stepped down out of the goodness of his heart for a fair investigation. He is more likely in full " save his azz" mode because it's likely he leaked classified material plus other things.

His credibility is shot and I think he realizes that he was used by the WH and he fell for it. Senate moving on to the nuclear option with Gorsuch. I really wish it had not come to this because now it will become the norm and whoever is in the majority will get their way on EVERYTHING.

Looks like we agree that Nunes was duped, and he's not stepping down voluntarily. The stain from this smear on his reputation is never going away. He really didn't display any of the instincts of a savvy politician but rather an anxious little boy who wants to play with the big kids, but they take his ball and he still doesn't get to play.
I also really hate to see the nuclear option invoked by the Senate. I know I've read that Schumer thinks this will bolster the Democrats for the mid-term elections, but instead to me it just looks like a lose/lose all the way around. Gorsuch is going to be confirmed no matter what, so my thoughts are that it would just be better to vote and move on. Now we really need Justice Ginsberg NOT to retire anytime soon. At least with the Gorsuch seat the balance of the court will basically stay the same. Once the nuclear option is enforced, if Ginsberg retires while Rs still hold the Senate there is no way we'll get another liberal in her place which will swing the balance of the court the wrong direction. Maybe that's why I'm not a political strategist. I just don't see the benefit here.

I'm only here briefly---I've been awol due to ill health. I just heard the evening's news about the US bombing in Syria and my heart pounding and head is spinning. This man is ruining the world as we know it. I don't think I can bear another day with him and his ugliness. Lord help us all.

Oh Pat, this is beyond terrifying but I'm not surprised. We watched the news until he came on then we switched to the HSN. Not interested in anything he has to spew. Every breath a lie.

Pat (pbnj) So sorry you've been down & out, but happy to see you check in. I was wondering what happened to you since you hadn't posted in quite awhile. Anybody that's cheering & Yahooing for the start of a new war in the Middle East is a complete idiot. Wars never solve anything but only bring misery & destruction to all involved. Tonight's strikes could escalate to something so terrible even under the best & sanest of Presidents, but to have the current idiot in the White House giving the go ahead for strikes is truly terrifying! Good God! Do they truly know if the gas & planes used in the attacks are the ones getting bombed tonight? ? I fear it's only the beginning of another awful war in a region that will never know peace. Who will Tweety blame when all this proves to be a big mistake. !?!?!?

I don't think they actually know anything with certainty yet. Once again he lets emotions runaway with him, and God only knows what the outcome may be. This rushing to action without careful consideration is just what we all feared when he was elected.

From what I've read other places, this was a military decision which he was told to go along with. Of course, it's also a diversion. And if it goes well, we know who will take credit.
