determined to get the J&J Was it just because it is a single shot? Yes, it boiled down to she "didn't want to have to go out twice" and "I want to get one shot and be done with it and able to 'hug my grandchildren two weeks later." So she wasted time trying to get a J&J appointment and in the time she wasted digging in her heels for that she could have been all done with one of the other vaccines.

We are teetering for the same reason.. J&J is too hard to track down. I did see there's a pop up location this week but its way on the East side not a good part of town.

We are teetering for the same reason.. J&J is too hard to track down. I did see there's a pop up location this week but its way on the East side not a good part of town. Jennifer, my friend THOUGHT she booked an appointment for J&J at one point. How she thought this I really can't fathom as she made the appointment through an online booking system at a major chain pharmacy and I know this booking system doesn't specify the brand of vaccine you will receive. She said she called the store and they told her, yes yes we have the J&J and that is what you'll be getting. I have to say that, knowing how insistent this person can be, whoever was on the phone may have just said it to get her off the phone, lol. As time went by and she heard of people at that store getting only the Moderna or Pfizer she got suspicious and called and spoke to a pharmacist who said no, we are not giving the J&J at this time. She cancelled the appointment she had made with them. After weeks of searching she ended up getting the Pfizer vaccine. It seems the only benefit of the J&J is the one-and-done aspect. From what I read it is not as effective at preventing Covid although it is effective at preventing severe disease, hospitalizations, and death.

not as effective at preventing Covid I have heard various medical talking heads opining that the lower efficacy of the J&J is due to there being more of the highly contagious varients around when the vax testing was being done, vs. the earlier 2 shot ones.

I have heard various medical talking heads opining that the lower efficacy of the J&J is due to there being more of the highly contagious varients around when the vax testing was being done, vs. the earlier 2 shot ones. I've seen those articles too but the reasoning seems a bit flawed and incomplete. I think the final verdict on efficacy will come as more people are vaccinated with any one of the three vaccines available and studies are done of post-vaccination populations. Studies are starting to come in from areas that have been hit with the variants and evaluations of all the vaccines are ongoing. We can hope for the best! Nonetheless, we shall remain masked in public and vigilant for the time being.

My ex-husband and I went and got our second doses today! So relieved to be fully vaccinated (well, 2 weeks from now) and have made it through this pandemic without getting the virus. I realize we are extremely fortunate to have been in a position to stay home 99% of the time with the exception of grocery trips on about a weekly basis and my aunt's funeral last summer, aren't essential workers that were forced onto the front lines, didn't experience any layoffs, and kids could do virtual learning up until last month (and even then a hybrid model). We do recognize our privilege and try very hard not to take it for granted.
Still remaining vigilant and mask-wearing and am thrilled to be on our way to getting more time with friends and family (those who are also vaccinated so as not to risk anyone's health unnecessarily).

finreporter, good news! Your situation is pretty much a mirror of mine. Yes, feeling lucky.

It's very frustrating to see our county getting 6500 vaccines this week -for the entire county - and 1 single Houston distribution site getting 47,000.
