Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. 15 degrees ABOVE 0 to start the day! Wow, if it stayed at that temp, we would all be happy, but it is going to 25, so that is even better!
Robin, how nice that it was 50 there the other day. Interesting about Larry King and his will. Do hand written wills stand up in court, I thought they didn't. Good thing that black ice did not throw your car into a spin. Good job handling your car!
Pinky, I hope you get more of a heat wave than 0-8. I think you said you were expecting, just like us, warmer temps too. I am not remembering, did you go to the tax man, or going today?
Marsha, my smoothies include: 1/2 cp-1 cp, non fat plain greek yogurt, (0pts), 1/4 cp unsweetened almond milk, (0pts), 1 TB chia or flax seeds, (1pt), 1tb or small scoop of vanilla protein powder, (1pt), a mix of whatever fruit I want that day, of strawberries, bananas, cranberries, blueberries, then some greens, of kale, and spinach. So that should come out to 2 points, that is on the Purple plan, but I am sure it would be the same on the Blue. Sometimes I throw in a splash of vanilla extract, or almond extract.
Gareth, I assume everything went well with your eye injection. What did he say about your issue at the DMV? It sure is heck getting old, isn't it? I get all ticked off when I do something out of the ordinary, and pay for it with a very sore body, but I guess I shouldn't, I need to remember I am old, and of course my body is going to rebel.
Carol, I am sorry, what a nightmare you are living!!! And from what I saw, you could have more bad weather today, am I right? We have had to go without water a few times out at the old house, and that is one thing I do not want to go through. Good luck getting through all this nightmare!
Anngie, something jumped out about what you said: 39 and frigid....is it because of the wind you said that? Otherwise for us 39 would be a major heat wave, not frigid. I am just so happy for you that your surgery and recovery from it is going so well!!! Way to go!!! Yes, I have been surfing the web all over the place, getting ideas as to what I want in my room. I can't say for sure what colors I want, it will just have to be what strikes me when I see it. The whole apartment colors are beige walls, with the light brown door frames, window frames and cupboards. So once I feel better after my shot, I will be going to stores to see what I can match up.
Yesterday my sister called me while I was on here, and of course with her it turned into a 90 minute call. After that it was off to the races, with my day. It took a long while to get the 2 rooms flipped, with everything like wall hangings that I had not finished with the other day, and chairs, and then getting DH bed remade, and curtains rehung. By the time I was done I was wet with sweat. I am liking how the 2 room look, except for the decorating that needs done, such as new bedding for me, and so on.
2nd shot this morning, so I have to stop at the pharmacy to pick up 2 scripts, and the grocery store, as I am out of a few things, like apples and yogurt, so all that will be done before my 9 am appointment with the shot people, so I can come home right after. The nurse told my DS the other day that to expect to have symptoms from the 2nd shot, so with me being sick for 2 days after the first one, I am prepared for this one to have the same effects. I will be antsy to get to feeling better, so I can get the shopping done for my room, and bathroom.
About resale shops, I am of the mind frame that if I can find things for my apartment that are in good shape, which the resale shop I go to only takes excellent things, not like Goodwill, and the prices are prices to sell, not make a profit, then that is smarter to do, than to have those things go to landfills. At my time in life, I am not going to get a lot of years use out of all that stuff, so buying used is fine. I have never bought a brand new vehicle, so why buy brand new for your home, if you can buy used and and repurpose it? Of course things like major appliances, things like that would be different. I guess I should just say, to each his own.
Have a nice day everyone.

It is -2 this morning and should get to 18 degrees---YAH!!! They are saying almost 50 degrees by Tuesday of next week---can't wait.
Karen---we see the tax guy next Monday morning. Will glad to be done with that for this year. Just in time to start this years farmbooks--LOL, although I will not be thinking of taxes yet but still need to do my quickbooks for January and February and get this year started with keeping track of things on the farm. I hope you do not get as bad of a reaction to your shot today----thinking of you.
I came up for Four Winds so will start that today.
Hi to all!!!

I thought I’d stop in before heading out to PT. We’re supposed to get 1-3” of snow overnight. I’ll tell you, these few inches at a time are adding up. Or to mention the ice on the driveway. I’m not complaining, though, as I feel terrible for the state of Texas. I don’t know what their forecast is but I hope it warms up soon.
Karen, it was frigid because of the wind. Whenever we have blue skies and wind it’s cold! It doesn’t have to be below O. Isn’t DD’s doctor appointment coming up soon - is it with a neurologist? Thanks for the recipe! I wondered what you put in your smoothie.
Good luck on your second shot! DH got his last week and he was just a little achy which lasted about day. I hope you’re just as lucky!
Gareth, I was wondering too what the doctor said about your DMV visit.
Robin, interesting about handwritten wills. I also thought they didn’t stand up in court. What I’m most surprised at is he didn’t have his lawyer make these changes and instead hand wrote something that he kept in his safe at home? A man of his means that would do that even considering a divorce is hard to understand. I’m sure DH has seen it all, though!
Carol, I see so much on the news about how bad TX was hit I was wondering what large city are you closest to? This gives me an idea how badly the area around it is. Hope your doing well.
Hi Marsha & Pinky!

Marsha---I am reading Night Light by Terri Blackstock. It is the 2nd book of 4 I think. The first one was Last Light which I read 1st. Copied this from my reply to you last night in case you didn't see it.
Anngie---How is PT going for you? Yes those little snowfalls do add up don't they---hope with the weather we are predicted to have next week it will melt a bunch.
Taking DMIL for her 2nd Covid shot this afternoon.

Karen- the smoothie sounds good. I think it would be about 2 points on green. I don’t know why all the recipes I see are so much higher. I hope you don’t have too bad of a reaction to the shot this time.
I suppose I ought to get my stuff together for the accountant and get the taxes done.
Pinky – thanks for the title. My library has the one you are reading but not the one before it. Would it be ok without the first book?
Hi Anngie
Quiet night last night as usual. Nothing to report. Boss is leaving this afternoon to go east to visit his 2 college kids that are in school there. I think they are all going skiing in Vermont. So once again, after he keeps telling us all how we have to be careful he is off on another trip. I swear he is our weakest link. Isn’t the east coast getting walloped by another storm? I started The Vanishing Half. Good so far.

It was -3Âş going to HyVee this morning but I see now it's 8Âş getting to 15Âş later. We had a dusting of snow overnight.
The Dr said my eyesight is borderline for a driver's license. I just pray it stays there. I can't imagine not being able to drive though I don't drive any further than I have to anymore. I really don't like to drive anymore. I'm ok in town. I don't even like to take the expressway to go to the other side of town or between our two cities. The Dr said my eyes are remaining stable so he put it out farther again between injections so I don't have to go back for eight weeks. A blood vessel broke in my eye again with this injection. It's not as bad as last time though. The nurse said it's because my blood vessel is close to the surface of my eye. I'm surprised that it's just the last couple of injections that it's happened and not with all the other ones I had.
My PCP's nurse called yesterday to say that my cholesterol is a little on the high side. It's always been good so it really surprised me. All my other numbers were within range. Nurse said it just needs watched so nothing needs to be done in the meantime. I wonder if I'm like my DM who had high cholesterol and for the most part ate healthy. My DF was just the opposite. He didn't eat healthy and his cholesterol was always good.
Karen, good luck with your shot! Hopefully you won't have a reaction this time. Did you know even though fruit is 0 points when in a smoothie it needs to be counted? On the WW site look up why you need to count 0 point fruit when you blend and drink it.
Pinky, I'll be interested to hear how you like Four Winds.
Carol, I'm curious too to just where in Tex you are.

Gareth - you're right about the processed fruit which is probably why all the smoothie recipes are high in fruit. I think perhaps though I wouldn't count the fruit for an occassional smoothie. Do you have macular degeneration? Do you take those Preservision Arids 2 vitamins? My mother takes those and they are supposed to be good for MD. Of course, at 98 she can't see much of anything anymore but she's had it for many years.

Marsha, no I don't have macular degeneration. I have glaucoma but that's what's not causing my problems that I needed injections. I had a vessel behind my eye that was leaking fluid. The injections closed and is keeping it closed.

We are an hour north of Dallas. We are doing fine now. They have stopped the rolling black outs so everyone in our town should have power. I read on Facebook that the problem with the water has been fixed, but it's going to take a while for it to get to normal so we are still under a boil order. It is only 23 right now and should get down to 12 tonight. Starting tomorrow the daytime temp should be above freezing and by next Wednesday highs should be in the high 50 and/or low 60s. That's crazy Texas weather. I saw Ted Cruz is getting flack for going to Mexico for a vacation.
I don't mind driving around here. We have a major highway which I try to avoid as much as possible. We have lived here long enough to know all the back roads to take. I haven't driven in the Dallas area in years. It is just scary.
We talked to DD last night. DGS's daycare is closed and DD and DSIL are trying to work so they have allowed more game time on his tablet and TV time.
There have been a lot of stories about burst pipes. We are very thankful we haven't had that problem. The dehumidifier has still been running under the house. The guy came and checked and said it was warm under the house so he thought we should be good about no burst pipes.

I forgot about the fact that they always say that when you blend fruit for a smoothie it is points, and that is what most people forget, but another reason I don't think they are worth having. I know also that when you starting putting in a banana, apple, berries, if you added up the calories it would really add up, so I think no matter what, even if the points aren't counted, it's not a great idea to have.
Anngie, I was surprised you had 39 degrees too, although I know sometimes that can feel cold too. We are getting more snow than you are, although now it looks like it has changed over to an icy rain, it's only 28 degrees.
Marsha, I agree with you about the fact that your boss shouldn't be flying around all over the place, taking the chance that he will come back and expose you.
Karen, sometimes when you are going back and forth doing things in the house it does tire you out. Exercise without thinking you are exercising. I agree with you about finding things in thrift shops. You never know why people gave them away, but nothing wrong with it if they look fine.
Gareth, good to be careful about driving now. It would be hard to give up, but you don't want to do it if it is going to be dangerous. It was Pinky, I am still waiting for 4 Winds. I can't believe you are still in the deep freeze, hope it warms up soon.
Carol, glad for you the blackouts are ending. The news sounds so bad down there, and then to hear that Ted Cruz decided the right thing to do was go to Cancun! I have no idea why I always mix up where you live. I have been to Dallas. On my very old WW board group our first trip as a group was to Dallas, as one of the women who lives there really couldn't travel because her DH was ill. It was just as good a place as any to go for a long weekend.
We are working from home today, and this is getting annoying. Too much snow for us. As far as sliding on black ice goes, if you don't accelerate or brake, most likely you will not start skidding. I just took my foot off the gas and let the car roll, which was fine. THat's the mistake that most people make, they don't anticipate, and then they brake, which starts them spinning. As far as my books go, I have to finish Deacon King Kong, and am going to give back Homeland Elegies, because I am going to come up for some others next week, and also have a book Monogamy, which I started and am enjoying.

Marsha---I would really recommend reading the 1st book in this series before the 2nd.
Gareth---hope your eyes can keep improving or that new lenses help the matter. I will keep you posted on Four Winds--havent had a chance to listen since I got it yesterday.
Carol---Glad that things are looking up for you in your part of Texas. Yes I have been hearing so much about the pipes breaking down there--glad it isn't affecting you. You have had enough troubles already.
Robin----Glad you are working from home today and staying safe. When do you hope to move your office? I will be interest in what you think of Monogamy--- I have been looking at it.
Karen---hope you are feeling okay after your shot. I am one who thinks smoothies are good and good for you. Maybe a little high on the fruit side but if you limit your fruit intake the rest of the day go for it. It doesn't take much fruit to make it yummy.
My DMIL called right after I posted this morning and said she had gotten a call from the clinic that they would like her to come in earlier for her shot if she could. So we went about 11:30 and its a done deal. Hope she feels as good as she did after the last one.
