Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Chilly start of 10, going to 22. Snow showers right now, but supposed to leave, with snow expected tomorrow.
Robin, thank you. I am sorry you have to wait a week to find out your results of the trial. I am surprised they are so argumentative about you wanting to quit the trial. There must have been other people that decided to get out of the trial. I just heard on the news, as I was turning on the TV that the Mayo Clinic is saying that the vaccine should be working by 1 month after the first shot. About the potatoes, we would be surprised at how much of those we eat. The normal serving size is 1/2 cup. When I am being strict with my program, and measure my whole dinner, 1/2 cup of mashed potato seems to be a perfect amount. A woman I watch on Facebook Watch that is a cooking fiend, says, (which I have heard before) you figure, with your potatoes, 1 per person.
Pinky, thank you. How was your DMIL? Remember, the thing I had heard about the side effects with the vaccines, is that they are worse with the people that have had Covid. I sure wish DH was here, to see how he would have gotten through the vaccines, just to compare it with me. Looks like yesterday was the day for color and cuts! I am finally to that point with my hair, it really needs it. So glad you will be getting your shot next week!!
Marsha, thank you, and I expected it to be just a 2 day thing, as that is what it was the first time, otherwise I would be too impatient to get done being ill. Happy Anniversary!!! I too will tell you on Facebook. I hope it is today, and not tomorrow, sorry I can not remember exactly which of the 2 days it is. Have a wonderful weekend.
Carol, thank you. I was reading a news story last night about Texas, and had to finally quit reading it was so heart breaking! Us people up north have to realize, it would be sort of like the Florida Keys getting that. So out of character. I sure hope that all the citizens that are doing without right now, remember this down the road, and use their voting power to get people in control that you can count on! OMG, and don't even get me started about that useless piece of crap Cruz!!! He should have just stayed in Mexico! I will keep you all in my prayers, this disaster is far from over.
Gareth, thank you. Lol, I was shocked when I got up, it was so cold in the apartment! Then I opened my blinds and curtain in my room and saw the snow! I knew we were to get snow tomorrow, but not today. It is that real light flurry type, but to me it is still snow! I was going to run to the grocery store today and take the car, as it needs a run, but not sure about it now. Oh no, your poor DH!! Reading that about him, I really missed my DH, with all of his meds, and him going through them. Ah, the good old days! I bet you are happy you can go longer now between your eye shot, right?
Anngie, thank you. I spent all morning yesterday sleeping. Forced myself to stay awake the rest of the day, but I did sleep good last night. I had to laugh when you asked Marsha how much PB she eats!!! PB is a bit on the high side with points, unfortunately, but when I am doing the program I measure my PB, so at 1tsp it is only 1 pt, so I don't think that is bad. It is when you do a TB. I am just amazed how great you are doing!!! Puts me to shame, with my stupid knees!! My left knee is still a bugger, I figure it will just be that way the rest of my life. Talking about take out, do you ever do delivery? I have never done delivery, living here, except that one time we ordered pizza delivery, so that is different, as the pizza place does the delivery, what I am wondering about is if you order from say, a place that does not offer delivery and you use Food Duds or some such company, how much extra do you pay? I was watching a young woman on my Credit Union page, talking about trimming back expenses, which she is doing and one of the areas she can focus on is delivery of food; she said if she went to pick it up it would cost around $10, if she has it delivered, it would cost around $20. I think she is in the greater GB area, so do I assume it would cost me that much to order delivery? Wow! That makes me not want to order delivery!
I am back into the human world, I do have a small headache left, I just took 1 tylenol for that, so all should be good from now on. One of my close friends, who sold her house and is doing the thing where they have a place up north for the summer, and a place now in Florida for the winter, told me last night she finally got notified last night that her appointment for her first shot is next week. She said it is just crazy down there, what with so many senior citizens living there. So I really appreciate the state I live in!
Have a nice day everyone.

Karen, it is not going to take that long for them to unblind me, it is just that it is the weekend. And, sure enough, I went online right now and could book an appointment for Monday at noon by my older DS's apartment, just to prove my point to them. I will not drop out of the study if I got the real vaccine. If I did get the placebo, there is no point in me continuing with anti-bodies. If I got the real one I will continue to have them test me, because that is important. As far as how you felt, there was a story last night on the news about how they are surprised about how those who have had COVID are still having lingering effects, and your tiredness might be one of those.
Pinky, I guess you are eligible because of underlying conditions. I thought you were not 65 yet. Is your DH over 65? Nice that you had that cut and color. I am the same way as I always am, I cut my hair much shorter and love it, then as it grows I still like it. Right now I am in a really liking stage. And, my hair is still looking very dark to me. If I look real close up in a magnifying mirror I can see more gray, but not when I stand the normal distance from a mirror. Pretty lucky for an old lady.
Right now it is only about 30 degrees, but sunny here, so snow is melting. I am finishing my 2nd cup of coffee, and will go out food shopping, and finish cleaning. Hopefully the sun has melted the snow that developed on the car after I came home yesterday. I did a lot of cleaning last weekend, so not as much, but I am having a problem with my vacuum cleaner. There is a clog in a really bad spot that I cleared a bit of, and now can't get it back together so easily. I don't know who considers this vacuum so great, I hate it. I have the Dyson Big Ball Animal, it is heavy, unwieldly, and gets clogged a lot.

Karen, so glad to hear you're feeling better. I was a little worried about you when you didn't check back yesterday. Sounds like you didn't have as a bad a reaction as your first shot. More snow predicted for us too tomorrow. Hope we're on the low end of the 2-5" predicted.
Robin, both DH and I are fortunate in that neither of us have had any lingering affects from Covid. Strange how it affects people so differently. DDIL has had lingering affects and she had Covid before us.
I've started Truths I've Never Told You which I'm enjoying so far. It's said to be if you like Kristin Hannah or Jodi Piccoult you'll like Kelly Rimmer the author.

I have read The Things We Cannot Say which is by Kelly Rimmer as well. It was very good, but definitely not as good as most of the Kristin Hannah books I have read. I know Jodi Picoult has written a lot of books, the few I have read I really liked, but to me totally different than The Things We Cannot Say. I will have to look into that one Gareth. It is interesting that your DDIL has more lingering effect than you or your DH, there are just so many variables and who really knows.

Well, it is 46 degrees right now. Unbelievable that things can change so fast. We are still under the boil order. Gradually, parts of the city are getting their water back. Ours in normal right now, plenty of pressure. I just saw a truck and a backhoe digging around the corner and down a little from us. I assume it is the city repairing a water main. I hope it doesn't mean we will lose water again, but we have a lot already boiled, ready to use.
Yes, I would rather lose water than heat. That was awful and it was for a relatively short time. I can't imagine not having heat for days and days. One of the fitness places opened up so people could shower. I'm not sure how they had hot water, but anyway, I would have tried it if we hadn't gotten our water back. DH was out yesterday and stopped by the grocery store. There was no bread or milk. Hopefully stores will be able to get deliveries now since the roads are mostly clear. Marsha, happy anniversary!
Robin, I hope you find out soon about what you took for the trial. When were they going to tell the people in the trial what they got? I mean, they would have let you know soon so you could get the vaccination, right?
I took a shower this morning and washed my hair. It was wonderful!

Carol, once the vaccine goes on the US market they will tell everyone. Or, if they have an appointment scheduled. I will find out either Monday or Tuesday, it doesn't take long, but it is not going to happen over the weekend, and they just sent the email about it at 4 pm on Friday. Glad you are getting your water back. I can understand the shower thing. During Sandy I went to my gym to shower. At that time they restored power to businesses way before homes, that was why my office had power even though my house didn't. We were out for 10 days, and it started to get cold, but it only got down to maybe 50 outdoors, so not as bad as Texas for sure.

Good morning. With clear skies overnight, the temp dropped, it is 5 right now, expected to get to 32 today, with the snow coming this afternoon. 1"-3" expected by overnight.
Robin, I am not sure you knew that I had my second shot on Thursday, so that is what had me feeling ill. That is what the extreme fatigue was due to. Otherwise, I have not had that fatigue since shortly after Covid. These are mostly the same symptoms I had after my first shot. What the experts have been saying is the people who have had Covid are the ones they are seeing that if there are any side affects from the shots, that is who will have them. And I proved them correct. Yesterday, the 3rd day since the shot, I did not have the fatigue, which I am confident is gone away. That is too bad about your vacuum cleaner. I recall the name Dyson, wasn't that supposed to be a top of the line vacuum cleaner? That is all I remember about those.
Gareth, thank you. Seems as other people in my family had the same thought about being concerned about me, as even my cousin, who I was not happy with, messaged me as to how I was doing, what with me being all alone now. I really do not think I have any lingering affects from Covid. I was glad that a few weeks after Covid, with having that brain fog, I started the Mega Red pills. I would have liked to start on the Prevagen instead, but those were sold out at the time. I did see the price of those at Walgreens, on their sold out shelve, which was around $93., which I was shocked at, at the time. Now that I think it over, I think if that pill does what it is advertised to do, I would think it is well worth the money. I am going to keep my eyes out for it, to see if it comes back on the shelves, then see if they have a smaller bottle, and try it. Those are more for brain function, and recall, whereas the Mega Red covers 4 things; heart, joints, brain and eyes. The Mega Red is not as expense as the Prevagen, but it is not cheap, either. It sure is not cheap getting old, isn't it? I hope you do not get the high end of the snow today. I have chores to do this morning, so I will get that started soon, so I can be back before the snow starts, as there is no reason for me to be out once it starts.
Carol, I am just crushed over all the stories coming out of Texas now. Last night I was reading a story of all the people and children that have died, I had to finally quit reading, as of course I was blubbering like a baby. Now this morning they are talking about how the people getting their power back on are getting bills of around $7,000 from the electric company!!! Of course it goes without saying that that amount is way way too stupid, but what I am wondering about, is how could they be sending out bills so soon after the disaster? Of course Biden will have to step in and do something about this tragedy.
DD flew out to Vegas yesterday for the weekend. This was the weekend her and her DH were supposed to go, for his birthday and their little vacation away from the girls. Her BF found them rooms for $40 per night. She was very excited to go. They come back tomorrow. With her luck lately, she will probably win big, lol.
I have noticed a sad habit I have gotten into is getting worse. And it seems I am doing it without it really registering in my mind! It looks to be happening when I am in bed reading. I am referring to chewing my nails. My goodness, it looks like I chewed every single one down last night!!! Guess I will have to get those gloves you can wear to bed! Something is triggering me to do that, now I have to figure out what, or why.
What has turned into my normal routine for Sunday's is on tap for me again this Sunday morning; taking the garbage to the dumpster; getting the mail that accumulated since Wed (which isn't much, mostly junk mail), running to the grocery store, so I best get moving to be home before it starts snowing this afternoon.
Have a wonderful Sunday everyone.

It is 25 degrees this morning and we expect to get to at least 32 degrees. What a difference a week can make--last week we had those temperatures but with a minus in front of them. We did get a dusting of snow last night, not sure if we will get more today. They said an inch total so who knows.
Wishing you all a great day!

It was 23º when I got up. Nice to have above 0º temps already in the morning. 40º predicted for Tuesday! Snow is is supposed to start mid morning. I hope we're on the lower end of the 2-5" predicted. It'll be a wet, heavy snow they say. I've heard several people say they've seen robins here already. It's a sign it's getting closer to Spring. A little early yet though for robins I'd think.
l looked to see what other books Kelly Rimmer has written since I'm enjoying Truths I Never Told You when I saw I have three of her books in my library that I've read and several in my wish list. My memory worries me at times!

Karen, I didn't realize that, so it makes total sense. That was how I felt after my first vaccine, which hopefully I will find out was the real thing, not in my mind. With the Shingrix shot though, I felt that way with the 2nd. I think people are talking about having similar reactions to those 2 shots. I did see your DD on her flight to LV. I happen to love LV, there is lots to see just to walk around on the strip, so she will have fun. My DH, not so much. There are cheap rooms there to be had, and I know where she is staying is one of those places. I was there once with my friends that I had originally made through a WW message board, who started taking long weekends together to different cities, that was our 2nd, and so much fun. Then I went with my DH to a conference about 7 or 8 years ago.
Pinky, glad you are warming up, and Gareth, you too. We started this morning at 27, should get to 34, it is very sunny. Tomorrow should get up to 40, but they are talking about snow or rain. It depends on where the line is, the snow could be north of us, or maybe we could have an inch.
I have our lunch ordered, and will go pick it up soon, also stopping for some Dr. Prager's kids spinach or broccoli bites for Maddie. I should be back right around the time they get here.
Oh, and I finished Monogamy yesterday. It was not a happy story really, but about relationships, and I got very involved in it. Something different from other things I have read. It was by Sue Miller, who has been writing a long time and I have never read any of her books. Today in Parade Magazine there was a big list of books that are coming out this spring. I will have to look them over and see what I can reserve.

It is now 66 degrees! As I understand it, everyone has power now, but not everyone has water. Well, they may have water, but it is just a trickle. The city says everything is going smoothly but slow. We are still under a boil order. We have been using the shower and the washing machine. I need to go to the website and see what is said about dishwashers. We have been handwashing with the boiled water. The town and a food bank are giving out water and groceries. Our church has a benevolence ministry and some of the food is nearing its expiration dates so they told anyone could come get it. I think some food like canned stuff is okay past its date.
I had heard that about electric bills being really high. I'm going to have to go to our company's website and see what it says. I think plumbers, repair and remodeling people are going to be really busy in the next weeks. I don't really know much about pipes in the walls since we have pier and beam. I don't know if they don't have enough insulation and that makes them freeze then burst. We never completely lost water so we were able to keep the faucets dripping all the time.
We went to Las Vegas over 20 years ago. I think it is one of those places every one should go at least once. We saw Smoky Robinson and he was great. I remember we did a lot of walking. We're not big gamblers, but I liked the slots. I couldn't get over how they were everywhere like the airport. We also went out to Hoover Dam.
Karen, isn't there some kind of polish you can put on your nails that tastes bad if you bite them? It seems like one of my friends used it. If you have to wear gloves at night, put a lot of lotion on your hands before you put on your gloves and it will help them be not so dry.

Karen, I was wondering about that with your nails, were you saying that you were biting them in your sleep?
Carol, I have heard about those crazy bills also, I hope you don't get one. I am sure you are not used to using your heat though like you did. I am thinking that might be it. Electric heat is very expensive anywhere, I am sure TX is no different.
I got use out of that crib already. After we had lunch, Maddie took a nap in the crib while they went shopping at Trader Joe's. I had gotten a bargain on something that I could put on top of the dresser in that bedroom that they could use as a changing table. It was market down to $15, and was by Beautyrest, so much more convenient than trying to change her on the floor.
