Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Temp a bit lower this morning compared to recent mornings. 24 degrees. Looks like it is expected to get to 39 today, which is still very nice.
Gareth, another way I gauge spring coming, along with the warmer temps and seeing the snow melt, is the snowmobile trails getting closed. We have a trail on the field next to the side of our building, and it has been an active snowmobile season here, once we had started getting snow, so I am happy, as it seems the newer machines are a bit noisy. I am like Pinky, about the masks. The other day, when I had my meeting at the C.U., by the time we sat down, and got the chit chatting aside, I was having a bit of a hard time breathing. That does not happen much, thankfully, but yes, I will of course wear them, but can not wait to get rid of them, and be able to breath free of a cover. Good luck to your DH today. I really am a sceptic about medium's, but I watch his readings with people, and the main thing that strikes me, is, it is just a comfort to hear him saying our loved one's are all around us, and just want us to get through the grief, and everything that goes with it. Sometimes his readings are right on, and almost shocking, and other times, I watch and listen with that doubt I have of him, and really can't catch him, like in a lie, or if somehow it was all set up.
Marsha, yes that was a funny story, about the mask. DH and I have/had a mask that is for the Packers; I didn't wear it during the regular season, but once the end of the season came, I wore it everywhere, as they were in the playoffs. Now I just have a putrid grey colored cloth mask. We do have disposables on the desk, but I really do not care for those, so after so many wears, I bring that grey one up and wash it. There are some really nice looking masks out there, where just like you, women match them to their clothes. I just don't care that much, to do that. Meatloaf! One of the video's I follow on FB Watch, called the The Wyse Guy, who is from Iowa, makes vids of all sorts of things, and last night, sure enough, he made a meatloaf, lol!!!! But so far I am not craving one. Which is good, as I am limiting eating red meat. And if I made a meatloaf, then the next day I would want a meatloaf sandwich. So that would be 2 days in a row of red meat. My goodness, I can not remember the last time I had beef! It had to have been within the last month, maybe a grilled steak.
Carol, the big thing about mask's that I miss or dislike, is when you are at stores, it is easier to be not friendly to other shopper's. I think we need that sort of kindness to each other that a mask takes away. I am waiting for that day that we do not have to put masks on, and I walk into a business, and they look at me and scream: oh my god, put a mask on that ugly face, lol!!!! Speaking of church, last Sunday morning, going to the grocery store, I go by a very nice looking, newer church, that had been having outdoor services, are now all inside. The temporary stage/shelter they had erected on the side of the parking lot is all gone. The parking lot was full, so it means to me that most of their congregation has approved that. I am waiting to hear if the little church we used to go to is going to open up in the near future, or put it off. The Pastor has been doing a service on FB every week. Once they get up and running, I may think seriously of going there. I need something to focus on. I can understand why you do not want to go back, maybe eventually you can get passed those hurt feelings, and go back.
Pinky, what is so sad about Tiger, is we all know his career in golfing is most likely over. What a waste of such an excellent golfer. I think I spelled Matt's name wrong, I think it is Fraser. He is if anything, interesting to listen to. Aren't mediums really just salesmen? Well he sure could talk people out of their money, that's for sure!! I had the Pfizer vaccine. Most likely you will not have a reaction. I get ticked at myself at how I felt both times, where normally I am as healthy as a horse. Did the chiro help your DH back? My DD2 and her DH swear by Chiro's. They go there for things I would not think to go to that kind of doctor for. So I hope they were able to take some of that pain away, and straighten him up. I feel the same about masks. Also make up. I am going to cave, and start a moisture regime and some senior friendly make up, after giving my face a good once over in the bright light of the bathroom, I saw a very scary old woman looking back at me. I am paying for all those years of smoking...my face is a road map, but don't get on those roads, they go nowhere!!!
Robin, when is your DH doctor appt? Good luck to him. I have to say, that is one thing I do not miss, is all those doctor appts my DH had, those last 2 years. I wish, truly, that I could get into yoga, but with my 2 fake knees, and bad back, I am just not swift enough to get into some of those positions, and I notice every time I try yoga, I have to watch the trainer, because I do not know any of the poses, so I fall behind, and am not doing the pose correctly, so I feel it is just wasted on me.
Anngie, I got that book from Overdrive, that you were talking about; Mademoiselle Chanel. Thank you for mentioning it. I really like it!
Have to run to the C.U. this morning, all the paperwork is ready to be signed. I am glad I have my account all set that if I would die, the girls can get ahold of my money, and close the account. I was not happy when DB passed and I was locked out of his account for 30 days. Also, now all of the accounts we had at the CU are just under my name, DH name is taken off.
DD had carpal tunnel surgery yesterday. She insists she will be able to come with us to see DB house tomorrow. I hope so.
Have a nice day everyone.

I thought I’d stop by early as we’ll be leaving later to get my vaccine. I’ll be getting the Moderna vaccine at Walgreens. It’ll take about an hour and fifteen minutes to get but the weather is nice so it should be a nice drive.
It seems we’ll be wearing masks longer than some expected. I don’t like them either (I don’t like to continually breath in warm air) but I wear them and it’s really not an issue. I just wonder how and when this will end. There will always be people who will refuse to be vaccinated. Probably more than we think, and it‘s possible that there won’t be a vaccine that’s 100%. Even if they’re worn another year - like some news reports suggest - the above still holds true.
Today I received the PM for monthly contributions to help with the cost to run these boards. Didn’t someone here mention getting it too? It doesn’t appear to be mandatory right now.
Marsha, you did it again! Meatloaf is on my menu for early next week!
Gareth, glad you’re going with DH. It’s always best to have two pairs of ears!
Karen, has the carpal tunnel surgery been long planned or something new? Glad you like the book - I’m only on page 50 I think, but it’s interesting so far. I have to hand it to you for getting your paperwork all in order so quickly! Most people take years to get this far! Some never do and so their children are left with a mess.
Robin, good luck on DH’s back surgery!
Hi to Pinky & Carol!
We were talking about flaxseed the other day, well yesterday I came across a recipe calling for one flax egg?! It’s one tbl. Flaxseed meal combined with three tbls. hot water. Can’t even picture it! lol

Karen, I didn't remember that you were staying away from red meat, are you the one that said your cholesterol was getting a little high? I like meatloaf but definitely don't make it very often. Yesterday we made the Hello Fresh chicken with fig glaze, which is I think one of the things you made that you said you would not have thought of on your own, and you enjoyed. We liked it a lot too, and making the potato cubes in the air fryer came out great.
Anngie, did you say you were going to Utica for your appointment? Or was that a different appointment you made, but then found one at a Walgreens? I have to really cancel DH's appointment that he made through the NY State site.
I have my ultrasound this afternoon, so no eating all day, just drinking water. I had a bigger breakfast than normal. eggs on toast with cheese.

It occurs to me that lipstick sales must be really bad this year. Eye makeup, on the other hand, is probably doing ok, relatively speaking, but of course with so many people not going out they aren't bothering with any makeup. I put lipstick on when we went to ds' wedding and it felt so nice to do that. I have been doing more with my eye makeup lately, like using a liner where I never used to, because it is that part that is seen above the mask.
The meatloaf was good. I have the other mini meatloaf in the freezer for another day. So there are no leftovers in the fridge. I make 1# of meat in 2 mini aluminum loaf pans, I eat 1/3 of the pan and dh eats the other 2/3 and the other pan goes right in the freezer Tonight we have Purim services (the story of Esther) online at 7pm and normally I would not worry about joining late or zooming in while eating dinner but my mother wants to listen in to our services because apparently she can't listen in at her own tonight for some reason so we have to be done with dinner and cleaned up. So it's freezer leftovers tonight. Either spaghetti or lasagne - I'll see what dh wants.
Karen - good for you getting the paperwork taken care of at the credit union.
Anngie - good luck with the vaccine today! I saw that PM yesterday. Funny about the meatloaf becoming a trend every time!
Robin - good luck with the ultrasound. I hope you get some answers.

Home from DH's appointment and just had breakfast. His appointment went well. Dr says he's glad to see improvement and with that type of infection it just takes awhile even with an antibiotic. He wants to see DH back in two weeks. Nothing to be concerned as far as what DH was reading to be kidney failure in his labs. I think we'd be better without access to it since layman can't really interpret it like a medical professional is trained to. One of the reasons I go along with DH to his Drs appts is after we left DH said the Dr said he needed a stronger antibiotic. No, he said he needed to be on it longer not stronger. He either hears wrong or what?!
Got a text to schedule an appointment for my covid shot. Of course it's too far out for me to schedule yet. Just irritating that I was so anxious to get it and now when I can't it's finally available. I knew that would happen once I got my Prolia shot. That really couldn't be put off either. Nothing I can do about it but it's still a little frustrating.
I got that PM too about the boards. I have no intention of donating to it.
The only makeup I ever wore was eye makeup and lipstick. I used to never go anywhere without it or if I knew anyone was coming to the house even repairmen. Now since the Pandemic I rarely wear any even going anywhere. I do put lipstick on when I'm on Zoom though. At first on Zoom I would always wear eye makeup too. I've gotten to the point why bother anymore? Does anyone really notice or care?
Karen has me curious now about masks. She washes hers after several uses. I wash mine after each use. What do the rest of you do?

I wash my masks after a day of use so every day I take a clean one to work and when I come home I toss it in the laundry room. I don't like the disposable ones. They don't fit right. Occasionally I forget to bring one to work and I have to wear a disposable one and I toss it at the end of the day. I now keep a spare cloth one in my desk just in case. Then I just have to sneak maskless upstairs to my office without talking to anyone.

I'm like Marsha. I was my masks after wearing it a day. I usually handwash it. I don't particularly want to wear a mask, but I do because it's protection. When I was walking into Walmart this morning there was a woman with a terrible cough. She had on a mask, but I wondered why she came in. Her husband was with her.
I had thought about lipstick sales, too. I would put it on every time I went out. I haven't been putting on any makeup if I'm going to be in the house all day. If I'm going out I put on powder and eye makeup. I always put on moisturizer.
Gareth, glad your DH's appointment was good.

I agree about make-up sales, but they do say there is an increase in use of skin treatments, maybe people giving themselves facials or something. Something to do. My DDIL works for Glossier, which is mainly an online company for make-up and skin treatments, hand creams, things like that. They have been coming out with new creams, I guess because their make-up is down.
I don't wear a mask for long enough to think about changing them all the time. A few minutes usually. My longest is probably 30 minutes if I am in a supermarket, and I don't think the germs really hang around on the disposable masks. They eventually wear out though so I get rid of them.
Gareth, yes I would wonder how your DH's hearing is if he was thinking he said stronger instead of longer. I know I do the same thing with googling test results, but truthfully, for me now, I know I don't have a blockage in a duct from my gall bladder because certain levels that would indicate that are normal. Maybe something else, but I will find out soon.

Quicker than I thought, my doctor called me already. I do have gall stones, so have to decide if I should get my gall bladder removed or not. I won't have it done right now because DH is having his back surgery. I might have it once we see how he is doing. I am going to probably speak to DDIL's father who is a gastroenterologist and see what he thinks. I have been better since I started taking pepcid before dinner.
