That Irish chain is interesting. For some reason I thought it was different than that...something that was made in a circle.I had to laugh when I saw the young woman opening her kit. I have inumerable pairs of those little scissors. They came in our PICC line kits and were supposed to be disposable. We saved them all and gave a lot away to patients and their families and our co workers.
Well yesterday I did get things accomplished. I found out that my grandson in Taiwan suffered a head injury and had a subdural hematoma. Luckily it was a small hematoma and didn't require surgery but it filled my mind all day. I messaged my brother to ask him to pray and we ended up "chatting" and I finished Yoda while doing that. This morning I fixed a doll I made for #1 dggd. Her head was floppy so I had to resew that and also sew a button on her little dress. It's kind of a waste of time making the little dress because little girls alway take the clothes right off their dolls. This doll also has a little pair of "bloomers". Now I'm planning on finishing the shark. I have to sew on 5 fins.
It's a beautiful day here. the beautiful weather won't last long but after another month we should have good weather here to stay.
My younger grandgirls in Indiana got email through their homeschool coop so I've been emailing the youngest. She's my pen pal.
Well back to work on the shark. See you all later... (I should do housework but am not in the mood)

Good evening....
Ruth, I am so very sorry to hear about your DGS in Taiwan. It must be so frustrating to hear about him not doing well and not being able to see him- give him a hug and know that he is doing ok. I will keep him in my prayers- him and his medical team. Thankfully it was a small hematoma, and did not require a surgical procedure. Keep us posted on how he is- when you hear. How very sweet that your DGD is now your pen pal!!!! How old is she?? Is she able to email you often?
Got some errands done today and did get back to working on the falling charms. It takes me 18 minutes to use up a bobbin while free motioning....not sure if that helps put it in perspective that its really a non stop sewing.
Think I am going to relax the rest of the evening. Ginny

Thank you Ginny. I can imagine how frustrating this is for my son and ddil to not be with him. I hope his wife insists that he have the tests he needs.
Ginny, yes it sounds like you use a lot of thread while doing that free motion quilting. However it's sure worth it because the end result will be beautiful. I'm glad that you were able to get errands done and have these few days to rest and relax.
I did get the doll completely done. I made her a new face. She looks very pretty now. The shark is done also and is very cute. I'll probably work on a baby blanket for the rest of the evening...well it's almost 9:30 already but I'm a nightowl so I'll be up late. I hope you both are sleeping soundly by now and are getting a good rest

Good morning all! Ruth- glad you finished the doll and are so pleased with the results. How frustrating it can be to put a lot of effort into a project and not have it turn out as we wanted. Hope that you can get some good news about your DGS. Bet that DS and DDIL are wishing he lived in the United States. There is a comfort in that.
More errands today.....I “lost” 3 days babysitting this week, so I have things to catch up on.

Done more than my share of running around today. Fortunately the weather is nice, but super windy.
Wonder what CJ is working on and if the double irish chain was started or not.
Ruth, any news on your grandson?
Will check back in later to see if anyone has checked in. Gotta go drop off some groceries with Dd. She did a “from home” order and the store was out of certain items, but refused to make substitutions (which she told them was ok to do). So I was able to pick up those missing items at BJ’s for her- for a better price.

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well today Ginny - It's super windy here today too. I think this weather is strange for my area - just all the wind and no rain. Hope all your errands went/go well today Ruth - I hope your DGD will be O.K. It's so difficult when you can't be with family when they are sick. I'll hope for a complete recovery for him I went out today to go by the bank and get my car washed. The pollen here is really bad, so I was glad to get it off the car for at least a little while. I finished piecing my 10 blocks that are 25 patches so now I need to make the blocks that go between them. I looked through my fabrics but didn't find anything that I thought would look good with the 25 patch blocks, so I'll just make the pattern as written. Except that I'm going to only make 16 total blocks instead of 20. I also caught up with the Scrappy Mystery table topper I'm making. I must have not read the directions correctly since I had to make 2 more 4 patches and I think that the 2 other 4 patch pieces I already made shouldn't have been put together like that. But I'll wait to see the next clue, this mystery is almost over. I'm still feeling so anxious with issues I'm having with my yard. What has happened is that the person who was mowing my lawn hasn't been here for 3 weeks, and my grass is very high. He has health issues and problems with getting people to work for him so I do understand but he can't guarantee when he'll be back. So I've been looking for someone else and I found someone else (referred by a relative who is also going to use this guy too) to cut it but again it's an older man and I wonder if he'll stop working too. I really just wanted to contract a company to do it so I didn't have to interact with anyone (which also stresses me out) and they'd just come each week and mow the lawn. I'm scheduled to get the grass cut this weekend and it has to be done if I wanted to contract with a company because most of them won't cut high grass. So I guess I'll just play this by ear and see how it goes. I hated to call and cancel my original guy because he is nice, but I can't stand the anxiety of dealing with worrying about whether he is going to show up or not. I keep looking for a home in a 55+ community so they would take care of the outside maintenance, maybe I'll find one someday. Hope you all get to do some crafting and have a great weekend!

Ginny, the stores seem to have a big problem on whether or not to substitute. I've had problems that way when sometimes they go ahead and sub and other times just tell you they were out of a certain item and you wonder why they didn't subsitute. I'm glad you were able to get what your dd needed. With a fairly large family I'm sure they need a lot of things.
CJ, you do keep busy with all those quilt tops, wall hangings and table runners. People would love to come to your house, I'm sure, and see all those beautiful things. I'm sorry about your lawn issues. I'm not all that happy with dealing with individuals either so am fortunate that right now my dh is still capable of riding the lawn mower and sometimes gets help from the neighbor.. Do you have the yellow pollen there? When we had our fishing shack in Arkansas I first experience the yellow pollen. It sure covers everything. And you washing your car reminded me that I need to order some touch up paint for my newest vehicle that had the run in with the garbage bin.
Well since I got the items done that I mentioned yesterday I decided to make a little baby sweater. It's really cute and I think it will be pretty easy. The sad thing is that I don't know if my dgd will even use these things I'm making for her baby. The two dggds usually are just one in a diaper and I think the older one in underwear...at least she should be potty trained by now. And most people have their infants in those one piece pajama like things so probably wouldn't need sweaters. I also plan on making a pair of cute foot covers, aka booties but sneaker like ones, and with the one piece thing they wouldn't need footwear. I also want to make a pair or two of the hand covers so he doesn't scratch himself.
I think my dgs is doing pretty well. Thank you for all your good wishes for him. I hope he can come back to the US soon which he was planning before this happened.

Good morning!!
CJ- yes we have yellow pollen up here too, and from what I can see from my dining room window the culprit for me is maple trees. Its all over my car and Ds’s also. Bet it feels good to have your car cleaned/washed. Its a nice feeling getting into a clean car for sure. Totally understand your desire to have a contractor come work on your yard instead of an individual. Perhaps using that gentleman who is also being used by a family member can serve as an interim solution, until you find someone reliable. Its stressful indeed, and you just want the work done! With an aging baby boomer population, you would think that there is a retirement community being planned...
Ruth, I know that baby sweaters are not the “in thing” but I have the ones my mom hand knit for my kids- and these are works of art in detail. She used baby cotton. DD used them when her little ones were baptized. So glad that DGS is doing well. Will pray for his quick and safe return to the United States. No matter how messed up our country can be at times, its still the best place to be in the world. DD orders from a chain of supermarkets- the location that is closer to her home struggles with substitutions. The location closer to my house, which I use for at home orders on occasion, does a pretty good job with substitution and will even call if they have a question.
Have a great day all....hope to get back to quilting in a little bit. Ginny

I guess I never noticed that maple trees had yellow pollen. There are very few, if any, maple trees here. In town there is a section called the 'big tree' section which is a very old section of town that has amazing houses and trees. Ginny, I hope you're enjoying your day and CJ too, of course. I'm thinking of Sue and Phyl also and hope they also are having a great day. I started the sweater by last count 8 times and finally got it right. I'm now up to row 12 I think, which is where you do the divide for the sleeves, I'm missing one stitch but now that I'm on this part of the sweater it won't matter and I could have counted wrong. I'll look at it one more time to see if I can tell where I may have skpped a stitch and if it's not too far back I'll go back to that spot as I know all the rows up to now are good.If I don't find a spot that was skipped I'll just go on from here. I'm very stubborn and hate to give up. My mother always told me that as I was growing up but that was mostly in reference to arguments It was 80 yesterday and at least very high 70's today...not sure if it hit 80. I haven't looked ahead in the weather forecast but I wouldn't be surprised to see a cold day in the near future. Ok back to the sweater.

Hello Everyone Ginny - Hope you were able to get some quilting done. It is the yellow pollen that I have here too. Ruth - Your weather sounds like it is here. Wednesday and Thursday was so hot and it was uncomfortable in the house, then the wind yesterday and cooler temperatures had the house freezing! I give you a lot of credit for persevering with that sweater! I'm glad you've made it to row 12 and I hope you can finish it up. Being stubborn can be a good thing sometimes Those baby sweaters are really so cute, but like you said I wonder if mothers put them on their children anymore. I had a surprise today and the guy that is going to mow my grass showed up to do it, he was supposed to come tomorrow. He had a family member come and help him and this guy rode on a riding lawnmower up the sidewalk of this busy road we live on probably about 1/2 mile! I was really worried for him since he had to cross the street. It took them almost 3 hours to mow my yard and that was with the guy on the riding mower doing most of the cutting. This man won't be here the next time and I can only imagine with a push mower and trimmer it will take over 4 hours to finish! This is why I want to hire a company. They come in with their big machines and extra helpers and they are done in a hour or so. This guy really wants to take care of my grass so I guess I'll see how the next cut goes. I just dread thinking about him walking this large yard in the summer heat. I'm such a worrier about things I can't control, but that's just the way I am. So I didn't get any quilting done today, but thought I'd share pictures of the 2 things I was working on yesterday. The first is the Scrappy Mystery table topper, there are still a few steps but it's close to being over. The second are 4 of my Irish Chain blocks, I made 10 total. I just need to finish the fill in blocks to start putting the top together. Take care everyone!

Good evening!
CJ- I really like the fabric line you used for Irish chain- its very pretty and will make a stunning quilt for sure. What is left to do on the scrappy mystery table topper? Or perhaps you do not know....I wonder if there will be sashing or not. Its so bright and cheery, the bright colors just make me smile. That is some story about the man showing up to work on your lawn. Who to use to cut the grass is a decision you will have to make- and if he chooses to drive on a free way in a tractor mower that is his prerogative. He can always turn the job down. You are right, it is something you cannot control, so I would go by who is the most reliable and or does the best job and take it from there ( assuming that the costs are comparable). And BTW, Ds’s car ( a deep deep blue which looks almost black) is a strange color right now with splotches of yellow pollen all over. Think he is heading to the car wash tomorrow.
Ruth, the baby sweater must be so adorable, what size are you making it? Is it for your new great grandbaby- who is due awfully soon. Not sure if I would call you stubborn or just able to perserve. In an argument, yes the word stubborn is appropriate but when it comes to crocheting I think just wanting to make a pattern work is more like it. Of course some patterns are poorly written too and have mistakes in them. But you usually figure it all out. Yes I too think of Phyl and Sue, and hope that they are ok.
So today was the baby shower. Had a good amount of help from DD#1, my niece and some of Dd#2 friends. It went well enough.....and I was proud of my girls and how they carried themselves. We had a LOT of kids, which ended up working out ok. the kids were all very good and it was a pleasant time. I did have the doors and some windows open- but most of the attendees either had covid already or (and this was most of the women there) were immunized. Had a fair amount of food leftover- but have figured out how to deal with that (sharing it with others). Its a big relief....so glad to have this behind me. Dd enjoyed the day I think (she was not surprised, and did not want it to be a surprise). So I can relax tonight.....which I am looking forward to.
Not sure what kind of weather I am in for- I saw something about it getting into the low 80’s for a few days...not my cup of tea at all. It was a very windy day, but now is just a calm and pleasant evening.
Take care Ginny

CJ, your's looks WAY better than the one I saw online. Your's is beautiful. The one I saw was ok but the colors just were kind of drab on it. I love the colors you chose for both of those. I think that if I wanted to hire a lawn person that I would prefer to have a company mainly because then I know the workers are insured. Sometimes independent workers are insured by sometimes they just tell you they are...like my son in law who is a painting contracter. That way if they are insured your more likely to not be responsible if they're injured and I hope this doesn't add to your worries. I tell dh and dd all the time not to worry about things they can do nothing about. It's not easier if you've been a worrier for years though Ginny, I hope your dd got at least most of the things she really needs more than all the cutesy things people think they should buy. Some things are really cute and, of course you can use some but many times cute gets out of hand. And yes, I'm sure it's a relief to have the shower out of the way. Yes my dggs should be here in about 3 weeks maybe 4. I started making the sweater for him but I'm not sure now that I'll give it to her. I'll decide before he's born. here's the link to the patttern I used and this time, no, it wasn't the patterns fault. It was me thinking I know better than the pattern designer. crochetncreate.com/newborn-crochet-baby-cardigan-pattern/?fbclid=IwAR3Gndq7ALODOTwdxehLmjKmAIPkTT6zP0hAiUeW4VqWj32EybHK2P4pLtoin the pictures the holes look really large but they aren't. They're a good size for a baby sweater especially if my dd remembers to show my dgd how to put a baby's arm into sleeves. Still the sweater would probably be more decorative than functional. I had to interrupt my crocheting to try biscuits in my air fryer. Thme directions said to put them on parchment paper on the little air fryer shelf so I did that. They turned really nice and golden brown all over except the bottons which were white. They were well cooked though and had a nice texture. So I made another batch and baked them in the air fryer in a heavy round cake pan we use for the air fryer. Thought they would get more brown on the botton but they really didn't. Still they were well cooked and tender and flaky like a biscuit should be both ways. This will keep the house cooler in the summer and also they bake only for 8-9 minutes and are done

Thought I would start todays post with something I saw on MSQ- a sign that says “finished is better than perfect”. Think that should be my motto when quilting. If I try to make a perfect quilt, then I will never ever finish a thing.
Ruth, that is a great idea to make biscuits in an air fryer!!! Ds mused over wanting an air fryer for awhile, and I did get him one for his birthday last year. I remember well ordering it online from Kohl’s- for store pickup. Dd #2 and I made that last journey (along with a quick trip into Walmart which is next door) knowing that the governor was going to start shutting stores down. Anyway, Ds likes it- Glad you are enjoying yours. I will be sure to check out the baby sweater pattern....and if I think of it later on will post the picture of sweater my mom made some 35 years ago. My mom was a perfectionist in most everything she did- especially her crocheting, knitting and cross stitch. If she found a mistake, she had to take it out. (Gotta say I am not like that). But that was why my mom’s house was a complete disaster- she never cleaned because her house could never be perfect. So it was easier not to clean. Ha ha ha. Thanks for the reminder of when your new Dggs is due to be born. Now I have it in my head, he is due about 3 weeks before my DGS #3 is due. Prayers for both babies - that their deliveries are safe and that they and their mom’s have easy deliveries.
Think Dd got some nice stuff for her little one. And I do not have to run around looking for more items for the shower.....
Allergies are a challenge for me- they were yesterday too. I do ok once my medications kick in, but can spend a long time sneezing until they do. Gonna blame that lovely yellow pollen.

Ruth, the baby sweater pattern is adorable!! When I see something like that, I actually want to make a baby sweater ....but just do not have the time to do so and would probably struggle with the directions. I know many moms today do not dress their little ones as we used to - but still a sweater like that would be lovely for those slightly chilly days , or even just pictures because it is so cute!! Love the little buttons on it too.....
