This is a thread devoted to those in their 50s, 60s, 70s and beyond who don't have children or grandchildren but live rich, full lives. Please feel free to join our stroll thru life and come back often for support and to share. ********** Expecting a high of 73Ā° and yesterday was same, sunny and windy.
We are definitely in the Pollening season. I was outside yesterday and the wind blew the pollen straight up my nose.
Karen, I am glad you got to meet with GFs and had a safe trip. How was Daleās triathlon? When is he planning to plant the cherry trees? Elmer Fudd would rather complain and threaten than take preventive measures. I will have to order the Fend Off. When I get the zinnias for the flower pots, Iāll get some marigolds. Thanks for the tips.
Becky, did you ever corral the calf? Maybe you can train Scooter as a herding dog. š Glad you finally got some rain. I would imagine the ground is thirsty.
Linda, I have never heard of kolache. I googled it and it looks delicious. Glad I canāt find it here. I donāt need another temptation. Triple digits already? Too soon!
Kathy, how is DM doing? Is she getting out a little more? Are you still doing Jazzercise?
Iggy grilled yesterday and he has a new woodworking project. I love it when he is busy. He is meeting his former work wife for lunch at a patio. If he likes it, I will suggest same for my meeting with GF. He said it looks like the seats are far enough apart and the servers still wear masks.
Have a good day, All.

Good morning chicks and thanks for the start Chele. Sorry I have been missing but had a rather challenging and bizarre week and weekend. Chele - we aren't quite as warm as you today but were definitely in the 70s yesterday. I believe we will only be in the low 60s today. I empathize about the pollen, my olive green car looks like baby caca with all the pollen covering it. I'm sure you've been battling the allergies as well. Hope Iggy's grilling came out well and the patio for lunch sounds nice now that the weather is much better. How are the eyes doing? What is the new wood working project? Kathy - wow on those high temps already. How are the family doing? Have they been able to get out a bit more? What have you been up to lately? Any projects looming for you? Becky - wow on 17K steps; that's a boatload! My knees, even with my shots would be talking to me the next day! How is the calf? How are Kenneth and the fur babies doing? Did the ITB loosen up a bit yet? Linda - Congrats on the loss and wow on all those interesting foods. Love your cartoons always; they put a smile on my face. Oh my yumminess on the Kolache! My sweet tooth would have a field day. Thank heavens finding it here is mostly in Brooklyn. Hope Bob and Micki are doing well along with you! Karen - sounds like you had a good visit with the friends but I am with you on not wanting to be in situations where that many people are crowded together even with masks. How did Dale's run go? How is Ms. Arya? Zoe is doing a bit better with the balancing of the meds, she is still exhibiting Cushy symptoms but I suspect that's not going away. She's not a fan of too warm weather but has been fairly perky in the cooler mornings. Gary goes for his new teeth this Wednesday so that should be a good thing hopefully. I'm working from home today just to be on the safe side and still need to call the PMD for rescheduling blood work and to see if we can figure out what's going on with me. Liz's update: Last week I was sent home from work with covid type symptoms. I had low grade fever, body aches, a headache and chills. I had to get a PCR test within 24 hours. I literally slept off and on (more on than off) for 2.5 days which really freaked Gary out. I had no appetite, was very weak and ate barely anything for 4 days but managed to get my self swabbing test at CVS. It came out negative; I was cleared to go back to work today. Not sure how accurate or confident I feel in the self administered test but no fever which is good. Enter next challenge: Stepmom fell during overnight at the center, broke her hip and was transported to hospital to have hip surgery (very early Fri.night fall) surgery on Sat. Now the hard part of getting her to participate in her own rehab and deal with the discomfort and pain. She doesn't do well with pain at all. DS and DN have been keeping an eye on her as much as possible. Aunt and Uncle with power of attny. being obnoxious and less than civil. My stomach has been rebelling over a number of things which may have accounted for the viral type symptoms last week. So please forgive my absence; I have the wonderfully crowded subway to look forward to tomorrow but we do what we must. Please stay safe and well dear ladies. I have to check my emails now. Ciao for now ~

Chele, thanks for the start. I saw a forecast with 97 in it for this week, but the local news said 95. Ah, that's much better. I'm also having allergy issues today and have made a dent in a box of Puffs. DM is doing fine, but hasn't gotten out much since her NSB trip. DS and family flew the coop and are up in the Smokies this week. It's DN's last week of freedom before he starts his first real job. You sound like DS on keeping DBIL busy. She can chill, but he has to be doing something. Hope Iggy enjoys the lunch. It's already pretty hot here to eat outside, so I think it will be takeout for us for the summer. I'm still doing Jazzercise with their on demand videos. They have a new format called Dance Sculpt that I want to check out. They have several class formats on there and also quite a bit of strength training and stretching. No grapevines in sight, lol! I think people have a view of the classes from the 80s, but they've really done a good job of keeping up with the times. Liz, what an awful week. So sorry to hear about your illness and stepmother's fall. Hard to say on the accuracy of the test, but it could've been just a normal flu or cold virus. That's good that you don't have a fever now. I hate that you have to battle the subway and work tomorrow. Please listen to your body and go home early if you need to. Hoping for the best for your stepmom's recovery. Glad to hear that Zoe is doing a bit better. The family is doing fine and DS, DBIL and DN are up near Karen's area. I'm glad for them, but also jealous of them getting out! Right now I have no big plans or projects. I'm refocusing on losing this weight and a few genealogy and home projects. I'm down about 3 lbs for April, so a decent start. I didn't gain any during Covid, but I sure didn't lose any. Karen, that's amazing on the ibises and would love to see that too. My DM and her sisters drove through a wildlife refuge near the Space Center and saw something similar. There were roseate spoonbills mixed in with the ibises. She took some pictures, but you can't really see them that well in the pictures. She didn't have a good camera with her either. How was Dale's run? Has the rain hit there yet? Waving to everyone. Have a good Monday.

Thanks for the start, Chele. Like Liz, I was curious about Iggy's woodworking project. How was his lunch with former work wife? Is the restaurant a good option for you to meet GF? When I met the GFs for (late) breakfast on Saturday, we were indoors (they don't have outdoor seating at this restaurant) but tables were spread out and servers wore masks, so I didn't feel uncomfortable. I hope the Fend Off and the marigolds work for you the way they did in my garden. Be sure to let me know. I can tell you that Fend Off also repelled Dale with his sensitive nose. I hope they don't bother you if you happen to be the person installing them. Dale placed 2nd in his age group in his triathlon. The worst part was getting out of the pool and onto the bike, given that it wasn't real warm yesterday morning (drying off isn't usually an option). As a result, I thought he was going to hack up a lung last night but I haven't heard any coughing today, so I guess he's over it.
Linda, I don't think kolaches were much of a thing around Austin when we lived there, so it must have been a different part of TX. They look similar to a pepperoni roll that was popular in some parts of WV I lived in and I even used to make those from time to time. Yes, the masks are supposed to help some with the pollen. However, I can tell you they don't filter out cigarette smoke. I had someone smoking about 30 ft from me when I was waiting (outdoors) for my car service to be finished up a couple of weeks ago and I could smell that smoke as clearly as if she were standing right next to me. So there will be limits. Are you in the triple digits today?
Sorry about last week being such a challenge, Liz. I can understand what freaked Gary out with your getting all that sleep. If the fever's gone, hopefully you're out of the woods. Hope SM starts cooperating with her treatment plan. These kinds of things don't tend to have a great prognosis as it is. I'm glad Zoe is responding, but it will be a challenge with her disease. I saw something on the news today about "push faced" dogs having more expressive eyes and thought of your girl. Good luck with the impending bloodwork. I hope they can figure out what's going on. You might be right that it's a variety of things culminating in the symptoms.
Kathy, they have started giving Orlando forecasts with our local weather, I guess for people who are thinking of going to Disney or Universal. So, it's going to be 93 for the high today? Cool compared to what you heard is coming. Does activity at the pond seem to increase or decrease with the higher temperatures? Sorry about the allergies. Do you know what's affecting you? Are DS and family in the RV? I know they are not alone. We've had off and on rain today, so I hope they have some indoor activities. Congrats on the loss. Three lbs is definitely a decent start.
How are you feeling today, Becky? I also wondered if you got that ornery little calf where it belonged. Did you get any more rain?
Denise, how are things going for you?
I woke up with a bit more energy than I had yesterday (which didn't take much) and managed to get the house cleaned and 3 loads of laundry done. Good thing to have inside stuff to do on a rainy day.

Thanks for the start Chele. It's been windy here. It got up to 93 today but I think it's only supposed to get up to 82 tomorrow. That will be wonderful as it was hot outside today. I'm glad I got my walk this morning while it was in the low 70's. Mold was so high here after 2 days of rain but as it dries out it will be better. It took both of us to corral the calf yesterday. He just didn't get in with the rest of them and Kenneth hadn't noticed. His mama wasn't calling for him and he wanted in there but couldn't figure out how to get there. The ground was very thirsty but it soaked right in there. We haven't been out to eat in quite awhile now but even before the governor lifted the mask mandate all the restaurants had desks spaced far enough apart and waiters all wore masks and everywhere has plexiglass.
Hi Liz. I don't always get that many steps for sure. Today it was so hot I only got 12K steps but that's what I try to average. It all depends on if I get a second walk in or not and this afternoon it was too hot. If I am walking on our uneven property out with the cattle my knees do talk to me but just normal walking on the road is fine. Kenneth is find and so are the fur babies. Scooter turned 7 on Saturday. I didn't find anything for her birthday but since it was so hot I looked in the freezer and found her a Frosty Paws ice cream. She didn't know today wasn't her bday. LOL. I am glad Zoe seems to be doing some better. I hope Gary's teeth do well. I'm sorry about you feeling so bad and happy you had a negative test. I'm also sorry about your SM.
Karen The fruit kolache's are made differently than a roll. Too much dough for me even before I started on WW. It was cloudy most of last week but we didn't get rain except for the 2 days. There is a very slight chance of t-storms in the Hill Country tonight. Austin and the rest of Central TX went from being in a drought to having a rain surplus for the year so far but this is May and from July on out there won't be much rain.
