Welcome to our 2021 Alcohol Free All The Way Board!
If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board, you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you? Or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? Did you finish the bag of chips? cookies? or just spend the evening grazing? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgment that we have been there, done that and know we need and get the support from this great group of women and men.
Whether you are choosing to be AF or find you can achieve AIM (maximum of one drink per day for women and maximum of two drinks per day for men), please join us if you feel this challenge meets your needs.
The main focus of this board is to be ALCOHOL FREE. The focus of our new challenge is to commit ourselves to success, one day at a time, one hour at a time....success breeds success! Follow a healthy food plan, exercise and stay AF.
As with all of our challenges, everyone is welcomed. For some making the commitment for the entire challenge is the way to go, but day by day is also a way to go. No one is cut from the challenge, and if you don't want to be part of the challenge, you are still welcome to post

NEW CHALLENGE
CARING April 5 - July 4
âYour body is precious. It is our vehicle for awakening. Treat it with care" - Buddha
This challenge is about caring about and for yourself. So often we get caught up in taking care of everyone else that we donât give ourselves the care we need. Or we give up caring about ourselves. A variety of reasons and for no reason, it just happens. The hard part is to recognize it and once you do, it is hard to explain because very few want to acknowledge it. You get kudos for taking care of others, not so much for taking of yourself. Not caring about yourself can leave an emptiness that you may try to fill with food and alcohol. The emptiness remains, just stuffed down. We want and need more for ourselves. So letâs begin!
Treat yourself the way youâd treat someone you love.
Love yourself first and the rest will follow.
Focus on health and well being
So how do you begin to care about yourself?
Eating fruits and vegetables sounds like a plan. So does drinking water!!
Walking up a flight of stairs without gasping for breath. Your heart will thank you.
If you donât want to be AF then restrict the amount and limit the days you will allow yourself a drink. But remember if 10 is not enough, one is too many.
Start with baby steps. Making too many changes at once can be discouraging so start small. Have you been slacking on flossing daily? Then start making it a ritual. Do you drink soda for energy? Start cutting back by one.
Treat yourself to something you enjoy. Buying the store brand face cream will sit on the counter. If you have a favorite, budget it in as a necessityâŚ.better than buying alcohol! Maybe getting a manicure or pedicure is important to you yet you deny it for yourself. Ask yourself why.
Make a list of indulgences that arenât food or alcohol and start sprinkling them into your life.
Ask for what you need. Too many times we get into a funk and we donât ask for help. You are loved and we want to help each other.
Curb all the justification. Sometimes you just have to do something because you want to do it. You donât have to explain yourself!
Think of your successesâŚ.add three things that went well today to your daily journal. What?? you arenât journaling? Journaling is caring!
LET THE CARING BEGIN!!

I feel like I'm on track and doing well, can't listen to the scale that doesn't want to agree with me. I will wait it out. Mostly inside day yesterday, wet, cool, buggy but today there is sun and we'll see what gets accomplished. They got in my car part I needed so will be at Toyota this morning at 10, get that done. Then maybe stop at Aldi's and Petco since I'll be over on that side of town. Want to see what we can get done around the house today in case DH is out after his second dose tomorrow! Starting to gather up the camping gear in the basement, DS was texting last night trying to get an inventory to see how many people we can cover. Should be quite the adventure. No other big plans for today, may take my knitting and a book to the car service. Enjoy your day Jan GG Glad you had fun with Rylee. Always testing boundries, has DD heard her use those words and do you know what her reaction is? Hard if the message is different in different places. Hope the scale reflected your good work this week. It's nice to have some confirmation of what we're doing, but either way, it will happen. I read the WW weekly, much like AE, making new pathways to change habits. Murphy So what happened with the steam cleaner? For something that's not used everyday it shouldn't only work a few years for sure. Hope we can meet up at some point, maybe I'll ditch the boys and meet you part way. I saw Seiverville on the map where you would go to work so I know we're close. Cathy All we can do is keep working at it. I always think I want to be able to do wine in moderation but haven't found the discipline to just have some one day and then not go down the slippery slope. Right now I just tell myself this is for losing weight and lowering my BP. I'm not AF forever, even if I end up being, I can't let my brain go into that panic mode right now. Just going one day at a time. Enjoying doing my Annie Grace journal and reinforcing the positive health benefits of not drinking. Cindy Hope you stayed out of those fire ants!! Please wear giant gloves when you tackle the thorny bush, see where I didn't even try to spell it Yep, each little project leads to a bigger one. I'm also a big fan of the indoor plumbing, why I'd love to have a small motorhome. Hate it when I have to get up in the night, find a flashlight, find a bathroom that's dark and cold!!! Show's how much I love my DS and what I'm willing to put up with just to spend some time with him, making new memories. I can do 2 nights, then that bed and hot tub will be such an amazing reward!!! Amy Hope the storms are past. Glad you caught the erosion spot early and can work on it over time. Maybe along with the junipers some colorful bushes like forsythias or some kind azeleas. Do they grow down there? yay for a new washer and dryer. Will you try to sell either of the old set or have them take it away when the new ones are delivered? Carole Hope you enjoyed pizza night with dad. Do you get a thin crust or a chicago style? Glad you can take Bodie down to the pond and wear him out. Does Ty have any summer plans, will he get a job this summer? Hi Liz. I"ll see if I can find that cabin, The Owl's Nest, and put a picture up on the WW Face book

We got out for our walk before the rain, stuck inside the rest of the day. Rain, strong winds, thunder, but no tornadoes. The boss wanted to discuss several issues, ended up working for about 5 hours on the stuff she wanted done. I think my replacement is feeling overwhelmed, glad I can help her. I did enjoy looking out the window while I was at my desk, watching the birds and the rain.
Today is starting out gloomy, but is not supposed to rain and there will be sun this afternoon. I'm hoping to get to Home Depot for garden items.
GG- Yay for fun with Rylee and a week of blue dots. Interesting to think about our choice points. I'm glad we have a basement, should a tornado come our way.
Carole- Yay for fun with Bowie & Ty coming home soon.
Cindy- WTG going through the letters and cards. Your outside chores seem never ending. I call it going down the rabbit hole when one thing leads to another.
Cathy- WTG tracking, positive attitude, working on activity, strength, and flexibility. Sorry the writing class seems repetitive. I suppose Annie does miss being outside, but she doesn't scratch at the door or try to bolt when we use the door to the outside.
Jan- WTG AF103, blue dot, steps, feeling on track. Hope your errands go well. We are going to have them haul away the washer and dryer. Forsythia and azaleas do grow here, I see lots of azaleas especially. I may try a hydrangea next to the new porch.

Calorie Burn Actual:2117 Fitbit Goal/Actual: 6,000/4,260 AF:18 AIM:1 ANIM:10 April 5 start weight:224.8 April 12:224.6 April 19:222.8 April 26:222.8 May2: 221.4 May 9: May 16: May 23: May 31: June 6: June 13: June 20: June 27: July 4: Good morning everyone! I am finally back, and I WILL make today a great day! Between Isabel's christening this Saturday and DD having dr. appointments, I have been babysitting almost every morning. I have today off and want to recuperate, take care of me, and be AF/OP, my body needs it. Except for Sunday, it has been raining almost everyday. Sunday was a fabulous day! I was up, showered, and out by 8:50, headed over to DD's, and DD, DGD and & I were back on the road at 9:30. We totally surprised my great niece, she had no idea that we were coming. My niece did a great job pulling off a lovely 21st birthday brunch for DGN! Champagne glasses dipped in white chocolate and rubbed into pink crystal sugar, and the entrees and all the sides were just delicious. The best was being able to hug family that we haven't seen in over a year. Isabel was just perfect all day and enjoyed all the attention. Later in the evening DD needed two more photos with her DH and Isabel with his fireman's gear, American flag, and Isabel's crocheted fireman's out fit. And guess what, she was not having it, lol! After about an hour DS got two shots out of I don't know how many to complete what DD needed. I don't think Isabel likes the camera, lol! Cindy~ Thank you for getting us started! Woohoo for the orchid flowering! Amy~ Yay for getting matching washer and dryer. Now that you mention it, I have never had matching either, lol! Glad the tornadoes were not in your area. Murphy~ Sorry about the steam cleaner, if you do decide on buying another one, DD has the Shark steam cleaner and loves it. Yay for getting your manicure and liking the new girl. I think a lot of foods and other items will be increasing in price especially with a couple of trucking unions going on strike, so it was a good idea stocking up the freezer. I am going to go onto that cooking for 1 site, the quiche sounds delicious! Jan~ Woohoo for your car being ordered! Do you know how long before you get it? Sounds like all good things falling into place! My pink dogwood has bloomed but still haven't gotten out to HD or a nursery for more plants. The weather just has not been conducive to walking around outdoors. GG~ Glad you had a lot of fun with Rylee! Sounds like you are in a good mindset, WTG! Carole~ Have you bought your pool supplies? If not, better get them quickly, apparently a plant that produces chlorine has burned down and the supplies are extremely limited. I have ordered enough for the season. Wow, Ty finishing up his year at school! Is this his first or second year of college? Cathy~ You looked fabulous in your pictures on FB, you are rocking it!

Hi girls. Last week I gained 1.6 and this week I lost half of it. Looking at the dates for this challenge, I will have a new hip at the end of it! And we all know how quickly the time goes! We are going out to eat tonight, at least thatâs the plan. Then we get our 2nd shot. Weâll see what tomorrow brings!
Cindy: Itâs always hard to go through old letters, pictures, cards, etc. Iâm getting better at getting rid of more and more. Yesterday I was watching old home videos again. DD was the same age as Rylee. DD was so shy!! Rylee gets her personality from her dad!
Jan: Yes, DD is the one who warned me about how she would slip it in. I made sure not to overreact. DD asked her how she would feel if DD said she didnât want to be Rylees friend. She said Damn! Lol She thinks there is a boy at daycare that is teaching her all these lovely things! Lol
Amy: How nice that you can help out your replacement so much. It doesnât sound like you mind it at all.
Cathy: Thanks for your insights. I guess we all are in the same boat. Sometimes we can control A and sometimes we canât!
Liz: Sounds like a fun time! Yay for Isabel being perfect!
Carole: Itâs hard to believe that the school year is over already!

Hi All!
Just heard from Murphy....she is fine but the storms knocked out her internet. Hopefully it will be restored in the AM!
Did a few errands this morning....cat food because the online order has been delayed. I was good and did not stop at TJMaxx...I need nothing!! Stopped at the grocery store for coffee and tea...a half decaf tea is available and want to make ice tea with it. Then to Costco to get gas and see if they brought in any plants...nabbed a nice lavender plant. As I was leaving there was a huge back up on the highway. A car had flipped and traffic had come to a halt...there was a seven mile back up. Thankfully I hadn't left the parking lot so was able to cut through the back way and not get caught in the traffic. Lacked motivation once home so have been puttering. A neighbor suggested pouring boiling water on the fire ant nests...I poisoned all of them yesterday so I will have to try it at another time. I have no sympathy for them.
Jan, the scale is just mad because you are doing what you need to be doing! I like giving human qualities to the scale....I think Amy posted a word a couple weeks ago that covered that. Anyway, I hope your trip to the dealer was short and they didn't forget about you, and that DH does well with his second dose. Is DS going to take some of the camping stuff back with him? It does show how much you love DS! Hope he appreciates you as much as you do him! Do you know if the GF has gone camping in the past?
Amy, glad you could watch the birds and rain while working for your old boss. I hope your replacement can hang in there! Did you fill your car with plants from Home Depot? or did you need more practical stuff? The outside is a rabbit hole! DH and I did not plan on staying here, it was just cheaper to buy a home than to rent. We could see projects coming...I guess it keeps me moving me forward, lol. I need to get to the fun projects!
Liz, a second orchid bud bloomed today. I asked DS if he told his co-worker and he said no, she might want it back....he was kidding. Glad you had a day to yourself to take care of you. Loved the FB photos of birthday lunch. Isabel looked so cute and happy. I'm glad DS is a patient photographer!
GG, it is amazing you will have a new hip at the end of the challenge! When BIL had his done by the VA, he was told to lose 100 pounds....he was over 300. He decided to fast for six days and then ate at a Chinese buffet on Sundays...can you see me shaking my head? Anyway, he did it and surgery was successful. I have no clue if he kept it off. I haven't begun to look at videos. I think I will pull out 10 letters a day to read through and eventually get through them. Rylee's personality shows through, especially with her smile!
Cathy, I enjoyed reading your thoughts on the wine. Every once in awhile it crosses my mind to have a glass...except it would be a bottle. I am picking out a few letters to keep, some from my brothers as well as parents. My parents burned all their correspondence along with, after asking my brother, all the letters he wrote them when in Viet Nam. We knew my Dad had a year or less left so they made their decisions about stuff.
Carole, after what Liz posted about chlorine tablets, I read about it....yup, there is a shortage and in TX as well. The pool companies said they had tried to stockpile. Hope you have your supplies! How is Lexie feeling? I hope she has made a complete recovery! Will Ty be home for the summer?
Happy Cinco de Mayo!
Hope everyone has a wonderful day!
hugs, Cindy

Hi all, just a check in. Cindy, thanks for the update about Barb. We ended up getting a pizza to bring home for dinner. I ended up at the dealer for another 2 1/2 hours...WTH. Guess they are backed up in the service department but it was eerie that there were almost no cars on the lot to sell. Maybe 6 or 7. A bunch of salesmen just wandering around the office with not much to do. Talked to DS a bit ago, he said he was called over the intercom to come down to the staff conference room, he's was nervous what he'd done. All the staff was there and he got the Rookie Nurse of the year award, chosen from all first year nurses in the whole hospital. Nice surprise. Just watching some news, may have to get into the ice cream or a treat before bed. I will get caught up with personals tomorrow. Hope you all have a good evening, no Cinco de Tacos for us, but proud, no Margarita's either!! Jan

CARING CHALLENGE: I will use âď¸ or ââ or â * Track on ITB âď¸ * Stay positive âď¸ * Work on increasing * activity - âď¸ * strength - âď¸ * flexibility - âď¸ Labor of Loving yourself first! April 5 - July 4 April 5 start weight: 168.2 April 12: 167.8 April 19: 166.6 April 26: 166.8 May2: 166.8 May 9: May 16: May 23: May 31: June 6: June 13: June 20: June 27 July 4: 166.6 again today [sixth day]
Today we are having two grain-bean-vegetable based meals. Lunch will be rice and zucchini with all the seasonings and ingredients (except meat) that would go into stuffed zucchini. I started making it in one pot without coring and stuffing each zucchini and hubby approved so it is a faster and easier dish that tastes about the same. I add in garbanzo beans and then we sometimes top with yogurt. Dinner will probably be a lentil vegetable soup with the spinach that needs to be cooked. I might make bulgur dumplings to go into the soup.
I walked yesterday for 30 minutes and did more exercises...will walk again today.
I turned in the first scoresheet for a book that I agreed to judge for a contest in New Zealand - So far I don't think any of the authors' books I have read for this contest have actually won but I have enjoyed reading them.
As for the scale and what plan to follow. After thinking about it, asking for feedback online and from my sister, I have decided that I will do the PURPLE program and side-track CORE to see how they compare. I want to be able to eat the fruit that is in season and not focus on points. My sister said she had trouble with the sixties decade and getting under it, I looked through my journal from 1998/9 and saw I had this same trouble then SO will just KOKO and know that I am eating healthy and the scale will drop if/when my body is ready to lose and reach a lower setpoint weight. So...healthy eating, tracking, exercise and such will go forward and so will I.
I saw an affirmation that hit home...not there yet but I am closer...also think it could be reworded for alcohol...
Watching my weight is as easy as telling time.
* Staying on program is as easy as telling time * Staying AF is as easy as telling time * etc
JAN: I am with you on the wait till the scale is ready...though it might be my body and not the scale. I enjoy what I eat and how I feel so it is not a hardship. I think I missed the camping adventure being planned? I won't be getting my second shot, probably, till June...think they ran short or are not receiving as often as they were in the beginning. As for the alcohol, the longer I don't have it the less I seem to hanker after it. When I had it last time it was fine but I had no great desire to have it every night after that...though I did think about having it and probably always will. How exciting and what an affirmation of how professional, skillfful, admired and appreciated your son is! I bet he was walking on air!
AMY: How long were you in the job you retired from? I am glad your replacement has you as backup. Is she doing okay? Do you think she will leave or stick i tout? Interesting that Annie doesn't indicate a desire to leave the basement. She must feel secure and happy and ready to stay inside. So glad you found her on the return to pick up those last few things from the old house.
LIZ: Your life sounds full and fun with Isabel and your family! Thank you for the compliment on the photo on Facebook. I had to take a photo because...I got dressed and put makeup on for the first time in MONTHS! I also was able to wear clothes I could not wear for years! Hope you enjoy the day of personal pampering and alone me-time!
GG: It is surprising how quickly the days of challenges seem to slide by! Where are you planning to go out to eat? We have not been out since March 2020 and...I miss having someone else do the cooking! That said, it is a LOT easier to stay on program when eating at home and in charge of the cooking!
CINDY: I have been known to call the scale "The Metal Monster" in the past. I also give it human attributes at times like: stingy, stubborn, broken, etc. It is just a tool to measure with like a ruler so...am not giving it power...that's for sure! Costco is one of my favorite places to visit when in the USA...it is fascinating since so much of what they have for sale is not available here in Lebanon. My mother was a keeper of old papers and letters and such. I am sure that much she treasured hit the dustbin after she died.
