I am back from a wonderful day with my cousins. We took the LI ferry from CT in perfect weather. My cousin had made us egg salad sandwiches for our lunch and we went from there to the cemetery where our parents and grandparents are buried. I did not expect to be as moved as I was. It meant so much to me to be there. Then it was off for lunch at a restaurant that has been there forever. A great Jewish deli. We went to the beach where we all grew up. I took off my shoes and walked in the sand, which is soft, clear, and white...like powder. Ahhh. finally, we went to visit all of our homes. My little one-story bungalow is now a two-story place, all modernized. I spoke with the man who bought my friend's house from across the street and we reminisced. Sighs and smiles and some tears...all very special.
Haven't done a puzzle in years. Sounds like fun, Sandy. Quite a win for Fred.
Sharon, what a gorgeous campground!! Lovely that your Iowa son will help with the move.
That certainly was a good-luck day for you with the slots, KC.
Ruth, you have terrific things in store. You always seem to, though.
OMG, Jane. What a great thing to win.
Vicki, Jekyll Island is gorgeous. I went there for a conference once. Winning it...wow!
Geri, that that neighbor's behavior says more about her than about you. Sad.
Have fun with your BF, Marlo. I have been to weddings and Bah Mitzvahs that were totally over the top. Mort's nephew's daughters had a joint Bah Mitzvah that we were in awe of. They hired an artist to fly in and paint an original oil painting of his impression of the event. One wedding where there were trees lit from inside made totally of Swarovski crystals.
AOTD:
1. Have you ever won a contest? Tell us about it. My dad's hospital always had fund-raising raffles and my parents would buy a ton of raffles to support them. One year we won something like 4 prizes. An artist would do a portrait. He is the artist who later painted JFK's official painting. I won it but gave it to my mom. I also won a basket of cheer. Didn't need that either. The thing I was proudest of winning was teacher of the year with the team I led at the University at which I taught.
2. Who was your strangest or most annoying neighbor? Most of my neighbors were good ones. But one strange thing happened when an Asian family moved onto our street. They were lovely. But one day Mort was taking our dog for a walk and the two young girls saw him and the dog and went over to chat. They asked him the dog's breed and Mort answered and told them he was delicious. The girls looked at him and said in wonderment, "You eat dog too?"
DGS 18 is very sick, temp of almost 103. DD does not believe he is at risk and thinks the whole COVID thing is overblown so no one in the family will get vaccinated and she does not plan on having him tested. Of course I am worried.
Going to bed with a smile still on my face.
I enjoyed reading all of your answers.
