Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. 49 here, this early morning, with at high of 71 expected. Low 70 tomorrow, then 80's for days.
Pinky, yours and my area will be the same this week, for weather. Whoever leases out the field right next to us, was out there yesterday afternoon, finishing the plowing, then starting the seeding, and I had to shut all the bedroom windows as the dirt in the air flowing the tractor was so bad, I did not want those clouds of dirt coming into the apartment. We are so very dry, supposedly this week is going to be wet, and we really need it, so bring it on. (just like you) Did you get your lawn mowing started? Those are bittersweet memories, I have, of lawn cutting. I liked the exercise I was getting from doing it, but it was getting harder and harder, with the ground being so sandy, these dry spells would be awful, when cutting grass.
Robin, sorry that I unfriended DD, so you can't look at the pictures. I was so fed up with DD, I know that is a great way to open her eyes as to how mad I really am. I have even given some thought as to taking a break from all social media, but that would be a drastic measure. Wow, your week sounds worse than ours, for getting up there in temps. I sure wouldn't want to go up to the 90's so soon. It got up to 78 here yesterday, with full sun all day, so of course my bedroom was toasty. I had the fan on, and turned on the a/c, with the temp at 70, so it didn't run constantly through the night, so that worked out good, but hate having to rely on the a/c again, so soon.
Marsha welcome back. For some reason I did not think you would be back to work yesterday. Oh boy, that challenge is back for you, about what to do about your mom, and her being alone. Have you and your DH ever think of somehow taking a leave of absence to go be with her till it is no longer needed? Would she have room for you both? From my pea brain, it seems that there is some kind of law or something that you would get paid to take care of your DM. But I most likely am wrong. Have you given any thought of doing something like that; you going out there to take care of her? Otherwise it seems you are in a no win situation. Unless you could get her doctor to get involved. Would love to see pictures of your cousin's new house. I have seen digital frig's, and I know I would have a hard time figuring them out. Just like the brand new cars now. HAHAHA, I would have to get my DGS over to program it.
Gareth, I am hoping that WW does not do away with your local Zoom meeting. I bet those are popular. If I felt I needed to go to the meetings, Zoom would be the way to go for me, even though I do not like doing things like that, or Facetiming, or Skyping. My mask adventures yesterday: My Optical store/doctor requires them, TJ Maxx required them, WM did not, the grocery store I go to strongly requests them. At WM, the majority of shoppers had them on. When I went to the grocery store, I asked at the service desk, when will the employees go maskless, and she said they had not heard yet. So I told her I would wear my mask till their employees did not have to. So I had my mask on everywhere I went yesterday. To tell the truth, I was surprised at how many people had them on, at the various places. LOVED your family pictures!!!! Also, it looked like there was no wind, so you worried for nothing, lol!!!
Carol, your neighbor is what I strive for, having a household that will not be too hard to have to pack up, once I pass away. Now that I know it will be DD's that have to do it, I am making it my mission to keep it simple. Why should they have all that crap to deal with? We went through that with DH mother, and of course my parents. I do not want that shoved off on my DD's. When it comes down to the sensory issues with cloths, all 4 of my DGC have that. But of course 2 of them, from DD2 have it all figured out, how to deal with it, like you pointed out. I think that reason is a lame one for my DD1. I think Marsha has a big challenge before her, to figure out how to take care of her mother, in a respectful way, with being so far away, it is going to be hard. Getting a doctor involved might help a lot.
Anngie, next Wedn. will be here so fast! I wonder why there is a shortage going on now, what with the pipeline back open? The price of gas has gone up here, but otherwise we have not been affected by it. The price of gas always goes up around this time anyway, what with switching to a summer blend. Yes, I found a bakery!! I feel excited by this bakery, as it is a new one on the scene, and both my DD and I really like the owner. It is just her, and her dad, with her dad doing all the grunt work. The family also owns a big farm, south of the city, so she uses all that is grown on the farm, in her baking and cooking. She sent me an email last night as to her ideas for the cake we want, and we both love it. I need to follow up with her today. You know, I never gave that a thought, about dentist's covering a patient, for teeth xrays, but at doctor's offices and hospital, that is not done. So are Dentist's being over cautious? Or are teeth xray machines more powerful?
DD1 called me last night to fill me in on what she did. She had a talk with DD1, basically backing up everything I said to DD1, last week, when she hung up on me. (HA! She did not hang up on DD!!!) Then she called her back and said she wants to take all the girls to her hair salon, the morning of the Memorial and they all have a good time getting their hair done and pretty for the Memorial. She had DD1 put the girls on the phone, and asked them herself. Of course they loved the idea! Then DD1 admitted to DD2 that she and the girls have started looking for clothes. DD2 is going to offer to go with them, to get outfits. So, that shocked me when DD2 told me all of this. We shall see how this turns out.
Need to make a WW cake this morning, for dessert tonight, with the fish dinner I am making for DS and her DH. This is the recipe from Ina Garten that I posted recently. Then Thursday I have to go pick up the 2 DGC after school, to bring here overnight, as DD2 and her DH are going to a concert over in the central part of the state. It is so good hearing that concert's are returning.
Have a nice day everyone.

Karen - I didn't take any pictures of my cousin's house. I can't afford to take a leave and go help my mother - we need my paycheck. As for live-in help, she keeps saying she needs help, then she says she doesn't know what that person would do. She has a cleaning person. She doesn't want anyone else in her kitchen. She doesn't need help walking, bathing, going to the bathroom, dressing, etc. She can do things she is just slow, and there are things she can't do because she can't see but not enough to keep someone busy. It's a quandary.
I ended up at the ER with dd yesterday afternoon, never came back to work after lunch. She has been having pain in the space at the base of her sternum where the sphincter valve is between the stomach and esophagus. This started when we were in Minneapolis changing planes and we both assumed it was one of those things you get when you don't get enough sleep, but it has persisted and is very painful. I told her to call her doctor when I was home at lunch and the nurse told her to go to the ER so they could rule out a bleed. We were there all afternoon, blood work and a saline drip and meds for relief. The doc diagnosed gastritis and said may be the start of an ulcer and referred her to a gastroenterologist. She was up at 4:30 this morning in my room because the pain had come back. When I left she was sleeping on the recliner sofa and I told her to call the doc to make an appointment as soon as she gets up. She was supposed to go back to school today but she cancelled her riding lesson and will stay home until we have a handle on this, or at least until the meds kick in so it is no longer so painful.
What do I make for dinner if we are avoiding spicy and acid? Last night we had scrambled eggs.

Karen, glad things seem to be working out with your DD. Thanks for the kind words about our pictures! Overall I'm very happy with them. The photographer had us in awkward positions at times. Now we wish we'd have spoken up at the time. It was very windy the day of the pictures. Even DH complained how messy his hair looked in the pictures and he doesn't even have that much hair!
Marsha, so sorry to hear what DD is going through. Do you suppose stress has caused it since I know you've said she stresses about school, her weight etc.
It was indoor walking today. It's been drizzly all morning. 80% chance of rain most of the day. I just wish it would rain and get it over with.

Gareth - if it is an ulcer, I am sure stress caused it. Even dd is convinced she did it to herself, and of course that is another source of stress! I told her she is working on managing it and that's what's important.

Marsha, I am going to imagine that your DD will need an endoscopy. The place that you are describing is exactly where I often get pain. I have a hiatal hernia there, and that causes a lot of problems. Sometimes eating certain foods make it worse, so it is trial and error to figure that out. Hope all works out.
Karen, I am not surprised that your DD1 has thought more about it now, and has made some good decisions. Good thing for DD2 to get involved like she has.
As it turns out, our weather is not going to be as hot as they initially said, 1 day in the 80's, the rest in the 70's.
Gareth, those photos you posted were great. I think photographers sometimes have set poses they think work well, and they try to use them with everyone. Outdoor photos always have certain issues, but look so nice. Wind of course is one of them.
Karen, I think what you are talking about is the CDPAP Program through Medicaid. It works out for some people, not so much for others. One client of ours thinks she will have her DD do that, only her DD works, and has a husband and children, so when would she have time?
Marsha, your DM sounds a bit like mine, saying she doesn't need any help, but what she is really doing is adapting to what she can do considering her limitations. It is hard to convince them that they need help, and it is more just to keep them safe than to actually help. She might have to get over the idea of not letting anyone in her kitchen.

Marsha, sorry about DD. I hope she gets answers soon. If she has to have a endoscopy as Robin suggested, they are easy. The person is out like during a colonoscopy.
Karen, yeah on finding a bakery. Sounds like your DD is coming around. I imagine she knows you are right and didn't want to admit it.
It is raining now and thundering. This is how it is going to be all week. I don't think we are looking at tornadoes. Since we have had so much rain with more expected, there is concern about flooding. We have a creek that runs through town that has flooded before. When I worked I had to go over a bridge over the creek and sometimes the water would be on the road. The houses across the street from us back up to the creek and some have lost part of their backyards from previous creek flooding.
