Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. 62 to start, with light rain, yay! Very needed. The next few days have a chance of rain in them. Along with warmer temps.
Marsha, I remember you saying previously that you are caught between a rock and a hard place, concerning your mother, and it seems after you come back from visiting her, you are stressed out because you can not figure out a solution. That is simply why I suggested you taking a leave and going out there. Your Mother reminds me of the Queen. I marvel at how that woman just keeps on and on! Good luck figuring out what you can do for your Mother, and what she will allow. Yikes, a possible ulcer for your DD! I have had one for years, and yes, it flares up with certain foods. Mostly, if I do not take my prescribed med for it, I pay dearly. Tums help too. Is she on your health care plan?
Gareth, now I will have to go back and look closer at your pictures, as I didn't notice anything about hair and wind, that is why I left that comment to you on FB, about your hair. Sorry about the uncomfortable pictures, but I did not notice anything, so again, I will look closer. Seriously, I think they turned out great. You have such a lovely little family. We have your drizzly weather today, thank you, as we needed it.
Robin, I agree, with your diagnosis of Marsha's DD. But at least those procedures are a piece of cake. About DD1, she has not made the decision yet to go for sure. I guess I will just assume they are going to put the effort into looking good, and come. Lol, I think DD2 was having a couple to a few glasses of wine, and I know this has been dwelling on her mind, so with the wine, and all, she took things in her own hands. Sometimes alcohol gives people courage.
Carol, thanks. I think this newer bakery will turn out well. I still have to decide on the flavors, as it seems I will be able to have different options. Still hearing, as of yesterday, more horror stories of DD house, as DH and I have not been in there in years, with DD always making sure we did not go in, and with the stories, it just adds up to why she did not want us in there. I am thinking now, that maybe getting a nice house is not such a good idea for them. We too are expected to have rain most of the rest of the week, but we need it so bad. I hope you do not get much, so there is no flooding.
Oh my, that WW cake was interesting. Funny, I did the points on it, after reading the ingredients, thinking it would be low in points because of the whole wheat flour and stevia for sugar, and was surprised that a piece from a 9x13" pan was 4 points, and that did not include frosting. After the frosting, which was sugar free, (I added vanilla extract) the total points was 7, for a small piece. I see what the attraction is on those cake mixes, it is for when you would want a cupcake, so you do not want to make the whole package of batter, you can do just a couple. Maybe then the points would be very low.
I have to recheck my food, to make sure I am all set for the 2 grands coming tomorrow for overnight. First time they have slept over since, I think well over a year ago. It will be bittersweet, as DH always really got into having them here, so he will be missed.
Have a nice day everyone.

65Âş and overcast when I walked. Yesterday was drizzly with periods of light rain all day. It must've rained overnight too since the pavement was still wet when I walked. Rain chances again today but more so this afternoon so DH and I should be able to walk later. Thinking about DDIL. She's having shoulder surgery this morning. If she went in as scheduled it's a half hour in. What a week she's had. She had a colonoscopy Monday. Coffee is almost ready. Time for breakfast.

Karen - dd is on our health plan. What bakery did you end up with? I saw that Monzu is full.
DD slept on the recliner sofa last night and did sleep better than lying in the bed. Good thing we bought that, right? She woke up when I was clattering around the kitchen this morning but I think she slept through until then and she went back to sleep when I went up to shower. Dinner last night she had macaroni and cheese which didn't seem to help or hurt her pain and dh and I had leftover enchiladas. I don't know what we are doing tonight. Having her home, unplanned, and sick, has made a mess of my dinner plans.

Marsha, has your DD tried taking Tums? Those help so much, for those flare ups if it is an ulcer. We are going with a newer bakery, called The Bakery. It is on Military, directly across from the old Sear's building.

Another beautiful day here - it might get to 83 - or so they say.
Karen, let’s keep our fingers crossed that everything will work out! My thoughts were that DD1 would be thinking this all over and come to her senses. After all it’s her dad’s memorial - and would she really want to miss it. And of course, time heals (most) wounds. DD2 is quite the negotiator! What a great idea to take them to get their hair done - go clothes shopping! Has DD1 asked for invitations yet? Glad you found a bakery!
Marsha, I’m sorry to hear that DD may have an ulcer. Maybe this will make her think about getting down to the root of all her stresses. Sometimes it takes something like this to make one step back and re-evaluate. With this being said, I hope you don’t end up with an ulcer as you, too, have a lot on your mind. I remember your saying you have siblings. Maybe it’s time for just “the kids” to get together and talk about options for mom. Look at all the options and as a group talk to DM about plan A and plan B. Not to do this alone, though. Is having a “siblings” talk even possible?
Gareth, did your DDIL fall? Hope she’s doing well.

A very overcast day with a high of 72 expected and rain early evening.
Karen--I bet you will have fun with the kids tomorrow night and sounds like DD1 is planning to come to the memorial for DH/DF---I sure hope so and that she cleans up her and the kids act. It is such a meaningful day and does not need any spoilers. I always say that if you are drinking it is "liquid courage"!!!!
Marsha---hope you find out what is up with DD so that you can start treating it ASAP. So hard to know the right thing for your DM----HUGS!!!
Gareth---hope all goes well with DDIL. Was this a scheduled surgery or did something just happen.
Anngie---is it today you leave for your DS's or next Wednesday? Sounds like fun.
Hoping to get out of here for a few hours and go get some flowers and groceries. I think DS#1 is going to be around as customers are thinking hail insurance and very few still need seed so will work for him to do both----I hope!!!

Karen, we'll all keep our fingers crossed for you that everything works out well for the memorial. I guess it is DD2's children are coming over? Do you think DD1's children would want to another time? I can only imagine how you feel about the condition of DD1's house. Again, there was one picture I saw her post that I thought was kind of weird. No door on a bedroom, just a curtain. But, to each his own I suppose.
Pinky, hope your day works out well for you, and DS can fill in while you are out.
Marsha, sometimes it is hit or miss with food that makes you feel better or worse. I agree about trying the Tums, but I think that the liquid antacids help more, something like Mylanta. What did they give her to take? Timing with when you take some of these is key. DH is not a Mexican food lover, so Enchiladas or even tacos are not things I tend to make. Once in a while, but not often. However, maybe I will make soft tacos one night and let him deal with it.
Gareth, shoulder surgery and a colonoscopy in the same week, not my idea of a good time. I really don't mind the colonoscopy's all that much. The method my Dr uses to prep is not all that bad. My DH has had a few shoulder surgeries, so hope hers works out well. Physical therapy is the key, and I don't think my DH did enough of that the last time.
Anngie, we are also having beautiful weather, and except for today, it is not supposed to get as hot as they were originally saying.
DH keeps saying he wants to go away somewhere, so I keep thinking of things, but then I realize that if he can't walk, what's the point. And, he doesn't like to sit outside at the pool or beach. Yesterday I was thinking of driving, which was something he suggested, to Pittsburgh then to Cleveland. He has been to Cleveland, where the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and one other thing are, but it is not that far altogether. Pittsburgh because we could stop there, and there were a few things we could do, but is he really going to walk around the Andy Warhol Museum? He would go up the mountain in at least on of the 2 incline rides they have, he loves that kind of thing. The other choice is just to go to Florida to see family and friends for a long weekend. We have his DB, and also our DSIL with one of her DS's, wife and 2 little girls. We have various friends, and also if we really wanted could go over to the west coast and visit some other friends in Sarasota.

Not much going on here,77 degrees and humid. We have a 50% chance of rain the next 3 days.
I went to the library today. They still require masks. They are about the only place where I've heard an employee tell someone they need to put on a mask and it must cover their nose. I went to Big Lots, too, and the employees had masks on and about 1/2 of the customers did, too. Our governor issued an order yesterday banning state and county governments requiring mask wearing. He said schools could require them until June 4 which is when most schools get out. So all the people who didn't like masks and didn't get the vaccines are free to do what they like. I don't think the virus is over and some of these people may get sick.
Karen, what is wrong with your DD's house? Is it messy or in disrepair? A woman from work DH died and she would not let anyone come into her house if they were bringing food or whatever. Everyone thought that was strange, but it was because her house was so messy. Her work office was the same way. It had piles of papers and boxes with just a path from the door to her desk.
Marsha, when I developed acid reflux is when I started sleeping with 3 pillows, just I wasn't lying flat. That is probably why your DD was able to sleep in the recliner.
