Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Temp is 42, cloudy, with rain expected this afternoon, with a high of 50, and a slight warm up tomorrow.
Gareth, I have to remind myself it is May 27th, as it feels like April 27th!!! Going to be a chilly holiday weekend here; back in the day, when the kids were little, we would go camping on this holiday weekend, and back then the tradition was that we could expect rain most of the weekend. We have spent the whole time camping, in our camper, in the rain, nice memories, but it did not seem so then. I don't know how Pinky does it, taking care of 7 children. Maybe it is because she lives on a ranch, so she is hardier.
Marsha, I stopped at DD2 yesterday and she was telling me all her and her DH need to do tomorrow, to get everything ready to start planting on Saturday. Just as you, they have their work cut out for themselves. Every year, after their garden is done for the season, she says she is going to cut back on their planting, and every spring it gets bigger and better. They are into, besides growing the typical vegetables, all different kinds of pollinators; yesterday the libraries were offering free seeds to attract butterflies, and other things, so of course she went to get seed for those. She gets the kids involved in the day to day chores of taking care of the garden, so that helps. Good luck this weekend getting your garden up and running.
Robin, right now the approximate head count for dinner is around 80, but that is just a guess, I will look at the lists later and get back to you about that. I am ready to hear quite a few no's, in reply, as this will be the summer of every kind of event and party you can think of, to catch up from last year. That is why I sent out messages, when I picked that date for the event, to all the most important people that I would really want at the event. Also why I wanted to get the invites out as early as possible. In my dealings with Social Security, they take right off the top of the check, for your Medicare supplement, so that should be why that person at your office is seeing money taken off their SS check. Nothing can be done about that. But I am sure you found that out, with your phone call.
Carol, around here, the mask wearing is almost comical, to me. The grocery stores and WM (which I went to yesterday) people seem to be wearing them more, than when we were required to wear them! I do not wear mine, and I feel I am getting "that look" from the maskers. I have no idea what is going on, but it is strange. Where are all the anti maskers now? When the grand kids were small, I would be worn out taking care of them. Now that they are older, if we do not go anywhere, I do not get worn out, but of course we do something, like the other day, going to the Wildlife Sanctuary and spending at least 2 hours walking around the grounds and trails. We all love it, so to me it is an excellent way to spend time with them, but I sure do sleep good that night! My DSIL has had a smoker in some form for years, and by now it is second nature to him, to smoke. DH and I were his guinea pigs years ago, when he first started out, and we have tasted some extreme dishes. But it was fun. So have a great time this weekend, sampling your DSIL tasty dishes.
Anngie, I am sure you have left, by now (6:45am), so I will just say have a great time!!
I returned a bra to Kohl's yesterday, and of course had to do some browsing, which in turn led to some buying, lol. But I did get some ideas as to what to wear to the Memorial, as Kohl's does have some nice clothes for that. Some are a bit too formal, but I think when I have lost the weight I am challenging myself to loose, (10 pounds), I will go back to seriously shop. Crossing my fingers that will happen the end of June or beginning of July.
Got a surprise at the Post office yesterday, when mailing the invites. Since DD put a wax seal on each flap of the invites, that cost me .70 cents more, besides the stamp, as the invites can not go through the sorter. Funny store with that, as DD kept 5 invitations, as she did not have addresses to DSIL family members, so of course I forgot about those, and after I left the PO, she sent me a message saying she got those invites in the mail, all happy she did that. I then told her about the seal and cost, so she tried to find her mailman, to get them back. Lol, of course he was gone. So hopefully those 5 just get returned to me for more postage.
Then she called me late last night, with more crap about DD1, which I had predicted, and some issues with DSIL and his family. I swear!!!! I do not want to hear any more B.S. about this gathering!!!! It is what it is, and whatever happens, I really do not care about. After all this, I am really looking forward to a quiet weekend.
Need to run DH's dad's saddle of flowers to his headstone this morning, for the season, then a stop at the grocery store, trying to beat the showers that are on the radar. Then all I have to do is a load of laundry, which includes the shirts and a pair of capri's I bought at Kohl's.
Have a wonderful day everyone.

Karen, we will be up to 81 here today, but I see we are getting your colder weather for the weekend, I was not expecting that. And rain as well. We had thunderstorms last not, but very little rain, could barely see it on the concrete when I went out with the dog. Don't worry about counting for me, I figured you just knew how many you had invited. That is a lot. Agree that there will be conflicts for people, if there is a wedding or something like that, I am sure that would be something they would go to. So sorry about all the drama with DD1 and the others.
Must run off to catch the networking meeting, I will do it from the office, and hopefully that will work. Maybe I will just bring this laptop.

Karen - I wish the drama with dd1 would end. It's enough already. I took quite a few years off from my big garden and only did tomatoes and cukes, but last year I went back to more stuff. I didn't get as good yield as I had in the past though and I know it's because my soil is tired even though it had quite a few years of just sitting with leaves and grass breaking down into it.
Hi Robin.
I did another half hour of weeding this morning. It was only 43 when I went out so I wore a sweatshirt and dd's old softball jacket. I've got about half the garden done but not what you would see if you look at a lot of gardens - there are still plenty of small weeds there but the big ones are gone. Last night we went out and got 10 bags of compost which I will spread over the garden when I am done weeding and then I will cross my fingers.

What a change in our weather from yesterday. It was 60ยบ when I got up. Temp has dropped to 53ยบ now. It had just started to rain when I went to HyVee. The wind upended my umbrella going in. Leaving HyVee it was really pouring but luckily my umbrella stayed put. Still got wet with the way the wind was blowing though. Between that and trying to hang on to the umbrella while I loaded the trunk. Now I'm in for the day. Did a little indoor walking before breakfast and will do more when I'm done here. Getting close to the end of my book so that'll keep me entertained while I walk.
Karen, it seems to be the opposite here with masks. Very few wearing them at WM Mon or at HyVee this morning.
Marsha, I tried gardening years ago. Found out quick it wasn't my thing. Way too much work trying to keep ahead of the weeds. Fresh veggies are good but there's always plenty of farmer's markets around.

At Walmart this morning most of the employees had masks. Some customers had them, some didn't. I can't guess the percentages of who had them on and who didn't. DD will probably have to go back in to work next month. She said she will continue to wear her mask since DGS isn't old enough to get a vaccination and she wants to keep him safe.
It was already 82 when I went to Walmart this morning. It is windy, too.
Karen, sorry for the continued drama. I never would have guessed you had to pay more to send invitations with seals on them.
I have never gotten into gardening. DH does the mowing. He plants flowers sometimes. The area where the guys put in the French drain a couple of weeks ago looks very nice. They cleared the area and put rocks there. I would love to hire a landscaper, but I know its expensive and with all we've had going with the house this year so it's something we have to put off. Our neighbor who died recently loved to work in her yard. I felt like we should a sign in our yard that said "before" and one in their's that said "after."

Hi Friends---just wanted to let you know all is okay---just busy with mowing lawn and working on flower gardens. We had close to an inch of rain last night and it has been raining all day, not hard rain but a bit more than gentle. Went with a friend for breakfast this morning then we went flower/garden shopping. We spent a lot of time with checking out all the places----LOL!!!! we got back about 2 and then I had some work in the office to take care of. I will be glad when all this super busy comes to an end!!!
