Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Starting with a temp of 60, just going to 78 today.
Gareth, yikes, yesterday was your day for doctors/dentist. How did everything turn out? Hope it was to your advantage. Hope you got a walk in with your DH. Good luck today, you will be in my thoughts and prayers; prayers that you will be able to have a nice visit with your friend, that he will hold on till you get there. Boy things have changed! In October when DH was on his death bed, our DD's were not allowed in the hospital to say good by to him. That is still bothering them.
Carol, that good, about the house. After the medical examiner had her exam of DB, and called the death, then the funeral home came and took DB to the funeral home. Then we could go inside if we wanted to. Since it was so late at night, and it being so fresh since it happened, I chose to come back in the morning. So the police, who hung around, made sure all the doors were locked and I had the keys. I don't recall you saying; how severe was the stroke on DBIL? Us too, with the temps, that soon we will be complaining of the heat and humidity. And be swatting the mosquitos, which so far I have not seen or felt.
Robin, oh how I know the story of eating and gaining! DH and I have been worried for years, about the 2 DSIL's, with their weight issue. I had predicted DD1 husband, with his high weight, that he would have a massive heart attack. Even worried enough to mention it to DD, which she insisted he was in pretty good health, like his blood pressure. Ya, right! And DSIL 2, who's house I was at the other day, I swear he has put on 40 more pounds this past year! DD2 told me the other night that she has gone back to working out twice a day. That's all well and good, but I am seeing those 2 drinking more mixed drinks and wine, and eating a lot at these cookouts. I had 1 chicken breast, and a small scoop of cheesy potatoes. Then for dessert, I had brought mini chocolate chip cookies, and a separate container of 6 of those peanut butter cookie cups with chocolate filling in the center of the cookie. (I hate peanut butter like that, so I bought those because then I wouldn't want dessert). They all had the peanut butter cookie thing, I had 1 mini cookie. I drank some N/A wine, then switched to big glasses of water. I can still see the other MIL eating like there would be no food the next day! She wanted salt, for the corn on the cob, and butter for that corn. She wouldn't want to eat at my house!! She would get the Shedd spread olive oil light spread, and maybe some course sea salt. Holy cow, sorry I went so long!! Yay, the beach house sounds marvelous!!!! Now you make sure you guys go!!!!
Pinky, beautiful here too, except right after suppertime yesterday we got a little rain. Which was fine. I dread those temps of 90 though. Yes, it is so so nice to do normal things. I love hearing about concerts coming back, Memorial day parades, that were canceled last year, all sorts of things that were not allowed last year. Yes, lol I am on a cleaning tear. Just have the vacuuming and dusting to do. I did get the ceiling vents in both bathrooms cleaned too yesterday. Very happy with my accomplishments. How was your coffee time with friends?
Marsha, hello. Don't worry about the weekend thread, there really was not much to read about, lol, if I remember right! At least you basically got your garden done. Way to go! Did you leave DS a message to call you back? If so, that was not nice of him to return your call, but if you did not leave a message, I know from experience, the kids of that age will not return calls. They figure the call was nothing important. I seem to have the opposite issue, with DD2, as I feel she is smothering me. Every single day she is messaging me to see if I am alright. And and issue came up yesterday that I mentioned to her that I have to run to the post office this morning, and she asked me if I want her to come with me. Huh?? I think I can manage myself. I am not old and infirmed!
Anyway, about that issue: remember I told you all, about the hot wax seal DD put on each invite? Seems the post office sent one back to me, which I would have received yesterday. The stamp they put on there says : NON MACHINABLE!!! Well, yes, no crap, that is why I had to pay a higher price on the stamps, because I was told they could not go through the machine that way!!!! Here we go again, with things just not running smoothly. So DD thought I would need her there for that! Oh boy! I was planning on staying home today, and getting the rest of the cleaning done, but now I have to run over there, in about an hour. I want to get there before it gets busy, and then I have most of the day to get that work done.
Not much more to report here. Have a nice day everyone!

From my own personal experience, the lesson I learned years ago which led me to WW was that I can't lose weight by exercise. I can only lose weight by modifying my diet. Exercise makes me healthier and stronger but does not lead to weight loss. before I joined WW I was going to the Y every morning and doing a tough full body strength/cardio workout class (that I could never fully get through) but still gaining. I realized I needed to learn to eat and joined WW.
That being said, I have fallen a little bit back into the peanut butter jar and stopped journaling, so right now I'm working hard to get off peanut butter and back on the journal. I have not gained a lot but I'm still not making progress. Frustrating to be just a few pounds above free lifetime. I should go weigh at a center and see how their scales compare to mine at home so I know exactly how far off I am.
Karen - yes I left a message for ds to call back. We call him every Sunday evening to catch up, I even asked him once is that the best time or is there a better and he said it was a good time. Now I admit this weekend I didn't call on Sunday, I called on Monday because of the holiday weekend, and I did say call back when you get a minute but he has not called back yet. Perhaps we will try again tonight. i have to bring up Father's Day which I am sure he will already have plans like he did for Mother's Day so we will have to find another weekend and they tend to be very busy. As you would expect with 5 sisters and 2 parents who seem to have 40 birthdays and anniversaries to celebrate every year.
I didn't do anything last night. Trying to stay off the toe for a week or so. It is definitely purple now so I think it is probably broken, but it's the pinky toe so I can still wear a shoe (I'm wearing sneakers to work) walk on it but I don't think I could bend my foot around like I would if I were planting my flowers and it is probably best to take it easy until it is healing.
I made fish tacos for dinner and I think I have decided to make those a restaurant food. I've tried several recipes and they always seem to come out meh, not really great. Tonight was supposed to be a tex-mex casserole but I switched it to mongolian beef.
I started Pachinko. No opinion yet.

DD has started back at the gym now. I noticed when we were with them Saturday that she is not eating as much and when we went out she got grilled fish. She has done WW in the past so she knows what she eats is important. I know people who think just exercising will cause them to lose weight and still eat large portions of food and are disappointed when they don't lose.
FIL used to love going to buffets. He would load up his plate and then not be able to eat it all. He would several desserts and try to give them to us. DH asked why he got so many. FIL really couldn't answer, but I think it was because he could. A lot of food was wasted.
We had a visit from our neighbor's pastor yesterday. Apparently they left most of their estate to their church so the pastor is working with the bank on what to do. She told us that the neighbor had said we had a key to their front door. Neither DH or I remembered this, but then I found it. We felt bad because we could have saved the police from having to break in the house. She said they would have re-keyed the house anyway. We also found out that the neighbor died of suicide. The pastor had something that had hinted at it, but DH was talking to another neighbor who told him. It is upsetting though it had crossed my mind since it was so soon after the wife's passing.
DBIL's stroke was mild, I think. He is only have problems with his right eye. He should be in rehab now.
I need to vacuum our bathrooms' fans, too. It is one of those things it is easy to forget about. Right now I'm trying to clean out and organize a closet in DS's old bedroom. It is where most of my sewing and craft things are, not that I do either much anymore.

Pinky - I stubbed my toe on the ottoman yesterday morning and it didn't stop hurting. When I got home from work I could see it turned purple so I think perhaps it is broken. The pinky to though so not a huge deal, although no extra walking right now. I have broken toes several times in the past so this is not new to me, although it has been quite a while since last time.

Well, we’re back! It really was a nice trip especially because DD2 and his DGF also drove down so I had both sons there along with my sister and DBIL. I just love those little grandsons of ours. They’re so sweet. Of course, it didn’t go without DDIL’s mother taking over the kids as she’s done in the past. It’s upsetting and I just can’t go into it right now. That’s how much it bothers me.
Gareth, I’m so sorry about your friend. I know it’s heartbreaking.
Karen, I heard on the news about the meat plant near GB. Is the plant anywhere near you?
Carol, your poor neighborhood may have died by suicide but he really died of a broken heart, wouldn’t you say? I know here if there’s an unattended death, there will be an autopsy.
Robin, I can relate to “people eat because food tastes good”. It’s true - it’s half my issue. There are SO many good reasons to keep a healthy weight, but only to eat because it tastes good? How sad is that.
Pinky, so glad DH is better.
Marsha, the times I’ve lost the most weight was because of my portion control. It was never because of exercise.
Has anyone read This Tender Land?

Popping in to say hello. I have to take DS back to pick up his car he left for an oil change and to be checked over, they are going on a road trip. I will have them check my tires, my pressure has been low since they put on the new ones.
Anngie, I can't even imagine what it must be like with that DMIL around. Did she really have to be there? So nice that you had all of them together though. I do get that more, because they both live here, but we will hopefully take a long weekend with them both in July.
That line about people eating because food tastes good? I always said that when I went to WW meetings and they always wanted to say that you ate because you were stressed, happy, depressed, you name it, but never because it tastes good.
Karen, as we know, it is so easy to watch what others do, and want them to do the same thing we do instead.
Carol, sorry to hear about that neighbor. Nice that they gave the money to their church though.
Marsha, I agree, losing weight happens when you control what you are eating.
Pinky, did this latest think with the beef processing affect you at all? I don't know if this time of year is when you bring anything to market.
I am just loving Sooley. I should finish tonight. I don't know if someone who is not into sports at all would like it as much as I do. We are not basketball fans, but we are fans of other sports, so I can get into it.

About eating because it tastes good. Years ago in WW they said after the first 3 bites you can't taste it anymore, and I think they are right. Pay attention when you eat. The first 3 bites have lots of flavor but by bite 4 I think it is more about texture.
