Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. 64 right now, going to 90.
I was on here late yesterday afternoon, so I did personals with most of you then. I will check and see if I missed anyone after that.
Marsha, you may have a good idea, with seeking therapy. From the sound of it, the issue with your DS is not going to be changing any time soon, unfortunately, and yes, with your DD, you know she needs your emotional support so much, that between the two challenges, any person would be yelling HELP! You had very very good advice for Anngie. I hope she will be able to take it. I hope you are not planning any garden work this weekend!
Robin, yeah, I won't get too excited over sushi!!! LOL!!!
With the talk of going on road trips with your DH's and not being a good thing stuck in a room together, my DH and I did very good all those years with the motor home, and then switching to hotel rooms, when we would go to Minocqua, until just recently, with all his added health issues, I think if we would have gone to Minocqua last year (which of course we couldn't because of Covid), it would have been different. I think it would have gotten on my last nerve. But we will never know.
Need to get ready soon to run to the grocery store for the fresh veggies that are going on my veggie pizza I am making tomorrow morning, for the dinner at DS tomorrow afternoon. Then I need to run to Kohl's to return a shirt that ended up being too big. Then I won't stick my nose out the rest of the weekend, except to go to DS for a few hours tomorrow.
I received a nice boost of confidence this morning, with my weekly weigh in. Down 2.2 pounds. Yippee! That happened just when I needed it. So onward!!!!
Have a wonderful day everyone.

Great job on that WI Karen. I think the biggest problem with me and DH staying in the same hotel room is that he often gets up very early, like 6 am, and wants to watch TV, or if they have breakfast in the hotel, go down and get something to eat. I like to be able to sleep later. Otherwise we are fine. When we are on a cruise, it is fine because he can always go roaming around the ship if he gets up before me. We do like to have a suite there though just because the rooms are so tiny, I always say it feels like you are squares in one of those Chinese puzzles, "I'll squeeze against the closet and you can go into the bathroom".
We did have a great time with our friend. She is doing quite well. She is the one who's DH died of lymphoma. She is really keeping herself busy, and is doing well financially, so that's a help, mainly because she is so busy. She retired and has a great government pension, she is teaching at 2 law schools, and doing some arbitration. She has one sister who is single and lives near her, and 2 close friends who are also widowed. One she is going on a road trip with starting today. They are going down to Virginia, seeing various historical sites and doing some hiking. I should have asked her if she was going to camp! We went camping with her and her DH back in the summer of maybe 1977 and had a great time. Then after that we progressed to staying in cheap hotels. Then fancier places. We laughed so much about some of his antics. He could be wild.
Right now I am home because the sprinklers guys are here. They realized there were 2 leaks when they turned the system off in the fall, and are fixing them now, so I have to stay here so they can get into the basement.

In the 90's for us today so it is going to be a hot one----I hope it is not going to be like 1988 where it was so hot and dry. We still lived in town then and I was pregnant with DS#2. It was so very miserable and the crops were not good. I think we only mowed our lawn 3 times that summer it was so dry.
Karen---good work on being down 2.2 lbs. Your hard work is paying off. That vegetable pizza sounds so good---save me a piece will you.
Marsha---I think that is good that you may professional help in dealing with your childrens different personalities too know how to handle different situations.
Robin----I would love to go to NYC to see all the sites but I don't think DH is interested even for a car show.
On traveling----I would absolutely NOT be interested in packing up my house and living in an RV---not even a big RV and a small one at that. OMG is your friend crazy Marsha. I could do a weekend or even a week but I know a few people who have no home just their RV. Not my idea of fun. I do love to travel however and DH and I get a long just fine in a regular motel room.
I wonder who has all came on since I started posting this as I have been interrupted twice since starting it.
Hi to all!

Pinky - my friend is planning to have no home just the RV for a while but she doesn't own a home so when she gets tired of it she can move easily just rent somewhere else. I think she's nuts and I wonder how long she will last. She thinks because they did a month long road trip across the country before their kids were born this will be easy, but her oldest is probably 29 so that was a long time ago!
Robin - dh and I are the opposite of your dh and you. I am the one who gets up early and dh likes to sleep. At a hotel I will go downstairs and get a coffee and sit with my book in the lobby and read for a while (pre-pandemic. during the pandemic I sat in the room with my coffee in the dark and read on my kindle). Then when I think it's a reasonable time I will wake dh. Usually I like to set expectations the night before - what time are you planning to get up? What time are we going out?
Karen - I need to plant my flowers this weekend. I didn't get to them last weekend and I was purposely avoiding anything this week until my toe felt better. So they have to get in the ground this weekend. I'll get up early and do them tomorrow morning. I also plan to go to WW and weigh tomorrow morning, and maybe go to Target and return something that dd brought home with her that I sent her that got there too late to be useful. Big exciting weekend, right? I was thinking it might be fun to go to the lakeshore with the dog but I think everyone will be heading to the lakeshore. I have a list of indoor chores to work on also.
I need menu inspiration. I was working on the menu this week so dh can go to the grocery store and I was struggling. Have you noticed how some foods only get eaten in the winter? Like stews, curries, meatloaf. With the hot weather I was struggling to find things I think we might want to make. I managed to get together a week's worth of meals but it took me at least an hour.

Karen, WTG! Great weight loss!
Anngie, there's a monthly fee of $14.95 now for LT members over goal. You could call the 800# though and see what they say about that 3 month special.
Marsha, sounds like a good idea getting some help with therapy. You've got a lot to deal with.
Pinky, has it really been a year already since your stroke?! So glad you came through it so well!
Carol. so sad about your neighbors.
Robin, those cabins on cruise ships would kick my claustrophobia into overdrive!
Glad to hear I'm not the only one that feels like I do about the trucks and interstates. I've known several people who've lived in RV's. It wouldn't be for me but some seem to really enjoy that type of life. My divorced cousin who just retired sold her house and bought an RV and so far seems to really enjoy the nomad life.
The funeral for our friend is the 12th which is also our 50th wedding anniversary so we'll have to postpone our planned family get together. I'm disappointed at the timing but I'm one that's ok with not celebrating on the exact day of holidays etc.

RVing sounds like a nightmare to me, too. It sounds like camping to me where someone still has to cook and clean but in a much smaller place. Whenever we travel, we take my white noise machine and earplugs. DH goes to bed earlier than me but can still sleep if I want to stay up and read. I can think of 2 couples who became RVs for a few years then had to settle somewhere because of health problems.
Kare, good for your weight loss!
When I was growing up, we didn't have a big celebration for Mother's or Father's day. I think maybe we went out to eat and gave them cards. Maybe we gave gifts, I just can't remember. My dad's birthday was in late June so maybe we combined them. With DSIL's family in Florida and DDIL not having much contact with her's, we usually can get together for holidays. Because of this we understand if they want see their families for Christmas or whatever. We know this is unusual.

Karen, WTG on the weight loss! That always makes for a good day! I’m so glad your DS moved back up near you! It’s nice to have her to do things with even if it’s only visiting at each other’s house.
Carol, same here - it’s no vacation to me if I have to cook and clean up! My idea of going on vacation is staying at a nice hotel and eating out! It doesn’t even have to be a long vacation!
Marsha, I commend you for realizing it might be good at this point to start seeing someone to discuss all you’re dealing with. And you ARE dealing with a lot and working full-time. If you get any menu inspiration, please pass it on as I have nothing! My DH is the what, when and where person - I’m the one that likes to wing it sometimes. Thanks for your thoughts, I know DS & DDIL appreciates all that we do.
Robin, see my post to Carol re RVing!⬆️
Gareth, thanks, I’ll check it out.
Hi Pinky, have a nice weekend!

I like to be able to do some meals and eat out some meals on vacation. Like breakfast, depending on what the day will bring I like to have my normal breakfast of yogurt and dh likes hardboiled eggs. That's easy enough to bring and keep in a fridge in the room. I find eating lunch out to be disruptive sometimes so if it's a busy day I like to be able to pack food. Usually I like dinner out. When we go away next week we will eat out Sunday night and depending on whether we are spending the whole day there Monday we'll probably do breakfast in our room and eat lunch out before going home and at that point we might eat dinner out because there will be nothing prepared.
