Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. A balmy 74 starting the day, with 90 expected. No record yesterday, it ONLY got to 90. I think after today, our temps will be staying around 89.
Gareth, I agree with you about the phone, and I am one that hates it also, but I know that my DS likes chit chatting on the phone when her DH is gone to the gym, so I am fine with that, and we always have things to gab about. You are like me too, as I do a lot of walking around while talking. I can feel the humidity coming back, as I have all the windows opened, so even now I would not walk outdoors. We have had a air quality alert all weekend and I could really feel it Saturday, when I went to DS. I really think I am seeing more masks, because I am looking for them; before I was not looking, while the mandate was in affect. Good luck with your call to your dentist, I hope they can fit you in this week.
Pinky, isn't this weather awful??!!! We are dry too, but I am sure not as bad as you. I guess we need to start praying for rain for you. How fun, to have that birthday party at a water park! Were you able to go get in the water at all? DD2 and her little family went to the lake shore yesterday (Lake Michigan) and it is still pretty cold, which is normal for this time of the season. I assume your DH can still use the hay if it is powdery? Curious as to where DGD picked for dinner.
Robin, that is what happens with DS and I, as I do not like being on the phone, but once I get on with her, time seems to fly! I did a few things yesterday to shake up my menu planning. I resigned up to Hello Fresh, with their calorie counting menu. You can't sign up for just 1 person, and they encourage 1 person signing up and using the leftovers for your next day lunch. What I will do is use the next day for my dinner. I just got the minimum 3 meals. I have gotten to the point of being sick and tired of my menu's and recipes. So I will try them for awhile. And then on WW, I switched to the Blue plan, from the Green plan. I want just a little less points, so we shall see how that turns out. I think that is the best thing WW did, those few years ago, with adding 3 programs, and giving us the choice as to which one we want.
Carol, you really need to send some of your rain up to Pinky, lol!! Don't we seem to hear that every summer; one part of the country suffering a drought and the other part, just about floating away!! I too do not know the percent of people in our county vaccinated. I don't pay attention to that, the only thing I like to hear about is the positive covid numbers, as they have been going down, which makes me happy and sad.
Anngie, if our hot temps are moving over to you, be prepared for scorchers! The best place to be is in an air conditioned house. Yes, usually my DS and I text back and forth, but then there just get to be too much to type and she is not the swiftest with typing on a phone. HAHAHAHA about the cake!!!! One of the reason's is, Easter Sunday, at DD, DD2 always makes a carrot cake, with the traditional cream cheese frosting, (the whole cake and frosting recipe is from my father, who made it every year, and was so great), and for some reason this Easter it tasted amazing, and I had another piece!!! So with being on WW, and being in that zone, there was no way I was going to touch any size piece of that great looking birthday cake!! Cake and I are like a drunk with another drink!!! I am so sorry for your DS friend. A few years ago I thought DH had that, with the symptoms he was showing, at home. Scared the hell out of me! They did not diagnose him with anything, but had him start taking an iron supplement. We still don't know what was causing those issues, and of course I never will know now. Is this fellow in a wheel chair yet?
No where to go today (YAY!), then tomorrow I will pick up DD and go over to DGD school, about 20 minutes before the end of the school day/year, for a 5th grade celebration for her and her class. I can not believe she is going over to middle school next year!!! She is the one that if you all ever see pictures of her on FB, that is skinny and has long hair. Then Thursday DD and I are getting together to go through all of our picture albums, to make a board for the Memorial. She has the box full of pics stored in her basement for me.
Oh boy, lots of sirens going and going. Must be an accident on the highway over here.
Good luck everyone, staying cool.

Another hot day----supposed to be only 93 degrees for us but most surrounding towns closer to 100 so we will see. It did get to 96 yesterday. UUGGGGHHHHH--its to early in the summer for this.
Robin----yes powdery hay isn't the way we like the hay. Also it can't be too wet or it spoils. Kinda fussy aren't we??? DS#2 has the same thing with friends. There are 2 of them that started out friends before preschool and still are. The one friend also farms a few miles from us with his dad and the other friend works with his dad in construction. These 3 boys went to the same college and made all the same 5 friends in college and they have remained close since college. They get together (college friends too) about twice a year and have photos of them with all of the children. Quite a large group of them now---but just warms my heart. So good to see those strong bonds continuing. It probably helps that with the first friends from preschool we were also good friends with their parents.
Carol----send your rain our way!!!
Anngie----The cows do have some shade trees and can take alot. Some days I don't know how they do it----from 20 to 30 degrees below zero in winter to 100 degrees in the summer. They are really watched when it is so hot though because when they start breathing hard we turn on a sprinkler so that many can get under it and cool off. I think it helps that it is a dry heat and not humid.
Gareth----how is the tooth today?
Karen---I didn't go to the waterpark I stayed at my house where it was cool and watched the younger ones-----too hot for the baby and what 9 year old girl wants her 5 year old brother there. This was a friend birthday. DGD loves baby back ribs so we went to Whiskey Creek in Brookings last night to eat. SO GOOD!!! Yes DH can still use the hay but it is less than ideal for baling and looses some nutrients.
Probably will not make it here tomorrow unless I can later in the day. I am going to Ag Womens Day. I get asked by our bank to go every year and for one reason or another I never make it. So this is the year. I will have to leave here at 7:30 as it starts at 8:00 and goes until 4:00. This is in Brookings so if it works I might run an errand or two after.
Well the office is calling my name----I still haven't got the statements out----OOOPPPPPS!!!! Too busy with yardwork and stuff.

Sounds like this hot weather is widespread. Warmer walking this morning without much of a breeze. It'll really be hot walking with DH later. We'll be hugging the shade for sure wherever we can find any. Listened to Only One Life while I walked earlier. I only have a few minutes left in it. It was ok. It held my interest anyway. It was just very predictable.
I was surprised the dentist can get me in already tomorrow morning at 9:40 Glad to get in done and overwith. Just hate the thought of sitting in that chair for an hour and a half. Sitting still for that long drives me crazy.

Gareth, yea for getting into the dentist tomorrow! You'll have some relief.
Anngie, sorry about your DS's friend. That is so sad.
I went to the library this morning. They still had a mask required sign. No problem since I had one with me. No one seemed bothered by it. Walgreens was a different story. No sign, no employees or customers wearing them. A sister of a friend of our's died of Covid. She was in her mid 60s and had no chronic health problems. She had been in the hospital for a month. Covid is still with us. I didn't ask if she had had a vaccination.
I got sprinkled on my outing to the library and drugstore. It was just rain, no thunder and lightning. It is only 72 right now, but it feels oppressive with the humidity. I turned on the AC to get a little more comfortable.
I only keep in touch with one of my high school friends, DH no one. I think my kids keep in touch on social media, but don't see them in person very often.

Boss had a crisis this morning and was in a bit of a rage over it so I had to take care of that and work with others to get it fixed, that took most of the day so I never got on here to look at weekend posts. Just got the whole thing figured out finally. Some of it was because of a bad internal spreadsheet that the author did not expect Boss to forward to the customer, some of it was customer waiting until the very last possible moment to process the info then not using her brains when she input bad information to realize it could not possibly be right. I think we are resolved now. But I may have to manually redo a stack of invoices tomorrow. I'm waiting to hear from my IT guy about reprogramming.
Weekend was hot so I didn't do much. I got up at 6 both days to do a bit of yard work and the garden is now fully planted. I went to WW on Saturday to weigh and see how much my scale differed from theirs so I would know how much I needed to lose to get back to free life - and turns out their scale is 1.5 lower than mine so it put me .8 over 2 above goal. My goal was the top of my healthy weight range so she upped it a pound and made me free lifetime. Whoopeee! Now I need to call WW to get the account cleaned up so they stop charging me a monthly fee. I'll make that call later after everyone else leaves for the day. That will give me time to sit on the phone with them.

Marsha, the boss in a rage, imagine if that happens and you are married to him! Happens plenty.
Carol, sorry to hear about your friend's sister. You are right, COVID is still with us. New cases are down, but they are still there. Hospitalizations are still down, as are deaths, but they are still happening. It hasn't disappeared.
Pinky, I know it is so tough for you farmers, so many things interfere that you have no control over.
Karen, have fun celebrating DGD tomorrow. Glad they can have that experience live.
Gareth, I think at this point your dentist considers it an emergency, and is not going to make you wait that long. Good thing.
I am very tired today. My own fault. I was reading last night, and towards the end of a book, and just kept picking it up again. It was the new Susan Mallery book Stepsisters, so nothing earth shattering, but not her usual drivel, which I enjoy too. I did quite a bit of reading yesterday. Trying to finish my Edith Wharton book for book club on Thursday, and also reading the new Laura Dave book that I really like. It's turning into a mystery. We had a busy day at work today, with DS out. Trying to schedule a co-op closing, so that's my thing anyway, and lots of back and forth. Plus, it's the son of a client of ours, and she lent him some money to close on his house, a loan he wants to pay off when this apartment closes, so I spent a lot of time figuring that all out with her. Then went over Medicaid stuff with someone. Those were the 2 big things I ended up spending time on.
