Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Same thing today, as yesterday, only thing different is a slight chance of rain later.
Pinky, yes, I agree, about the cows, how they are able to stand the different weather changes. I have seen for years traveling back and forth to town, on the highway, the area farms have their cows out, and there they are, just standing there. I have felt bad for them at times, but also figured the farmer knows best about them, not me. That is too bad that you missed all the fun at the waterpark, but in my case, I think those days are gone, I do not have the interest in them. Did Noah's Ark at Wisconsin Dells every summer for years, when we were all younger, and I don't think I could climb some of those stairs up to the start of those rides! YUM!!! Ribs! I passed on those, on Memorial day, to have chicken, but only because I am being very strict with my program. Otherwise I would have had a bunch of them! Have fun today, enjoy yourself!!!
Gareth, there is no way I could be walking outdoors in this heat, plus we have an air advisory too, so that is not good for my lungs. Sometimes I get bored walking in the apartment, but then I am thankful I have such a large one to be able to get my steps in. Yesterday I reached over 10,000 steps again. So I guess I shouldn't gripe. I am glad too, for you that you got that apt so quick! I figured they would fit you in sometime during this week, so that shows they leave time for emergencies. Wouldn't it be nice if you could just listen to one of your books, while the tooth is getting worked on? Then the time would go faster.
Carol, I think with libraries, they are required to have the mask mandate, what with it being part of the government. Our downtown library is where I used to love to go to, but then the homeless started going there. I think just for a place to go. So of course I stopped going, and where I live now has a beautiful library very close. I rarely go, as I can get the books on my Kindle, so I do not need the library. I have to say, I do not keep in touch with any of my school friends. My high school days, before meeting DH, was a bit wild, so I do not care to associate with those girls, as I have changed a lot since those days.
Marsha, when I started reading your post, I was worried you would say there was a cyber threat at your job!!!! Thank goodness it wasn't that! Yay on the weigh in at WW. Where is the WW store that you go to? WW changed so much of their stores, that the closest one for me is right next store to Seroogy's Chocolates! (Right in that big parking lot of JCPenney) They used to do a meeting in Pulaski, I am not sure they still do. Of course I wouldn't go anyway. I just, on Sunday put in an order online from WW, for a few snacks. I love ordering online from their store, they have so much.
Robin I am so happy that the celebration is allowed, plus family and friends are invited. Even a few months ago that would not have been allowed. DGS got all his equipment yesterday for freshmen football, which starts I think early August. My god how time is flying!!! I can't wait to go to his games!!! We had so much fun going and rooting for him, in 19, the last normal year, that was while DB was going through chemo. I wanted to bring him to a game, but he just wasn't up for it. I hope you got a good nights sleep last night. Last night was my turn, as I stayed up too late, reading. Oh well, it is not like I have to go to work, so I need that sleep.
Oh is it muggy in here! I hate to have to turn on the A/C so early, but it is icky.
Have a nice day everyone.

Yes hot and muggy. I went out at 6:15 to do some weeding. DH took the dog for a walk but he was back in bed by the time I left for work.
Karen - I suspect your high school friends have also changed a lot. When I went to our last reunion my bff and I spent a day downtown with a woman who was a friend of my cousin when we were in high school. We could not have been more different. since then she has served in the military, gone through substance abuse and alcohol issues, gotten sober, and she says she was not a good person "back then". We enjoyed our day immensely. When I told my cousin we had spent the day with her she could not believe it because in her mind everyone is still the same as they were when she moved away before our senior year. I've been trying to get my cousin to go back for a reunion but she is resistant. I spend every reunion answering lots of questions about her from her old friends.
Not much else to report. DS is blowing us off for Father's Day. He says he is very busy with work and the house and the new puppy (did I tell you he got a puppy? So now it's 3 cats and 2 dogs). And he doesn't want to come up for Father's Day because they don't want to leave the puppy. And no "why don't you come to us". This after not taking our calls for over a week. He finally texted. He offered to facetime for Father's Day and he is sending a card and a gift. We don't care about cards and gifts. I'm pretty sure I was very clear over the years that it is never about the gift, it is about the time spent together.

It is so muggy I can hardly stand being outside. Funny thing, tomorrow a “cold front” is coming through and it will be in the 70’s for a few days.
Karen, so you were a wild one! Never would have guess, girlfriend! LOL. But just as Marsha said, many, many years have passed and everyone changes to some degree. DH’s 50th is next year and I imagine we will go - I have a fun time at his. Mine is the following year and I’m still on the fence. No, DS’s friend hasn’t been formally diagnosed yet, he just has symptoms right now.
Marsha, I’m so sorry that Father’s Day isn’t turning out the way you deserve. I think maybe now’s the time to schedule an appointment (you mentioned last week that you might be doing this) to take care of you. You’re right about people changing over the years and there will be old classmates we’d hardly recognize!
Pinky, I’m confused (no surprise there) but I was thinking your ranch was raising cattle for slaughter but you also have dairy cows? Oh boy.
Gareth, are you home yet? How did you make out?
Robin, we seem to all be taking turns having a good night sleep. Last night I was falling asleep on the couch so I went to bed only to be wide awake and restless. I can’t even imagine working WITH my husband let alone FOR him! How do you like Edith Wharton’s books? I have one that I haven’t read yet - maybe it’s time.
Carol, there are three girls I graduated with and still keep in contact. We try to meet for lunch when we can, but it’s been quite awhile. One of them is a new grandma so I might not be seeing her for awhile!
I order a new book out called The Rose Code by Kate Quinn. I should get it tomorrow. Looks good, we’ll see.

Sorry for all of you getting the heat. It supposed to be in the high 80s and low 90s for the rest of the week. Also, no rain until next Tuesday and then only a 30% chance. Probably in a month or so I will be complaining how dry it is.
Our governor issued an order a few weeks ago that local governments can't make people wear masks. At least I think that is what it said. The library has had homeless come in and stay all day on the internet. Now they limit the time you can be on-line. I think it is 30 minutes. I wonder if they can be on for 30 minutes and then get off and in a little while get on for 30 more minutes. Yesterday there weren't many on the computers so that may be more of a problem when it is cold and/or wet.
My 50th high school reunion was supposed to be last October which obviously didn't happen. I wasn't planning on going anyway. There were a few of us who went to the same church and I wouldn't mind getting together with them. I read my hometown newspaper on-line and have kept up with some from high school, mostly from the obits, but also just local news or politics.

The dentist office called an hour before my appointment telling me that the Dr wanted to know if I could come in right away. I told them I'd be there in 10-15 minutes and headed out the door. I had just finished breakfast so I had to quick brush my teeth first. It went better than I expected. I'm still full of novocaine. Even my neck and tongue is numb. I had to stop on the way home and get a prescription for a mouth rinse I need to use. He also wanted to give me a prescription for an antibiotic which I can't take. They give me GI issues. He said it was more precautionary anyway so I should be ok without it. It'll take a couple of weeks to be heal. In the meantime I can't eat on that side. I haven’t been able to anyway because of the pain.
I got home shortly before DH. We headed out for a walk but cut it short. That midday sun was HOT. It was pretty warm already when I walked early. 90's predicted for the next ten days.
Karen, I hear you about it being boring walking indoors. That's why listening to a book really helps. No way would it have been possible to listen to a book in the dental chair between the background noise and drilling.
Marsha, will DD be home for Father's Day?
Carol, our governor issued an order a few weeks ago too that local governments can't make people wear masks. I don't understand that at all.
Anngie, I'll have to look up The Rose Code. Are you going to start it right away? I'll wait for your review.
Robin, that could get interesting at times working for your DH. I don't think I'd want to work for mine.

I started a reply, then managed to lose it.
Karen, glad you are going to get a chance to watch DGS's games. I wouldn't have thought you were a wild one either.
Gareth, glad you got into the dentist so quickly. Must have been a big job if you are that numb. I always think it's a good idea to take antibiotics after dental work. My DF had a bad experience where he should have taken them.
Anngie, I think our heat isn't supposed to break until the end of the week. Normally it doesn't get humid quite this early in the season.
Carol, we are having a Zoom reunion this year, then a 50+1 next year. I think it will be fun, we have a lot of people participating, and we plan to break it up with photo streams, music, and trivia. An intro, toast, and everyone talking for a minute or so if they choose. We are up to 72 saying they will participate so far, and considering we only had 210 in our class, I think that's a lot. Now you reminded me that I need to get on the phone about where we want to have the reunion again next year.
Yes, I did get a good night's sleep last night. I never get a lot of sleep, but this was pretty good. I read more of the Edith Wharton book last night, almost finished. And then The Last Thing He Told Me, which I think is very good. Really turning into a good mystery. It's by Laura Dave, who wrote 800 Grapes, which I really liked.

Gareth - I'm glad the dentist went well. DD will be home for Father's Day. She made an appointment for a general physical and it just so happens it's the Friday before Father's Day so that works out well. I don't know if she will want to go home on that Sunday or stay a few more days. She will be done with her 4 week class by then and she works Thursdays and Fridays so no rush back as far as I'm concerned.
