Ginny, it's great that you got to spend several hours with your dd and baby. Yes they do change fast.
Speaking of babies, my dd posted some pics of my new great grandson and in one is a beautiful quilt. I think, Ginny, that it's very similar to the one you are using as your avatar.
Well after ripping out and redoing row 17 in the shawl cardi 7 or 8 times I finally got that one done and just FINALLY finished row 19. This is the row I thought she had a mistake in but I was wrong...there is no mistake. She just changed the way she did the center and it worked. I have a lot left to do but I feel better now that I finally got past the worst part so I'll probably set it aside for this evening.
CJ, how is the quilting going. You are such a whiz at getting all those blocks done. I love looking at them when you post pictures.
It was hot again today here but now supposedly we're going to have a cool spell but they said this current week was supposed to be cool so we'll see. Tomorrow if it really is cooler I'm going to bake some things and get food ready for the weekend and also some cleaning and more organizing. Next week I hope to paint some areas of the outside of the house that need it and work on some more weed killing.

Good morning all!! Ruth, yay yay yay. So happy to hear that you prevailed over that shawl cardigan pattern. Now you can relax and enjoy the process of creating something beautiful for someone you love. Sounds like a good plan to bake and cook today during cooler temps. According to my phone app you are having some much needed rain now and the weekend is not so bad - not very hot. Do you have plans to paint the trim on your back door- if I remember correctly that is a job that has to be done every year. And yes the dreaded weed killing. Take your time getting it all doneā¦but I bet it looks so much better once done.
Warmer temps here starting today and for a week. I decided to push myself a bit last night, knowing it was the last cooler day/evening and got a bit more weeding and mulching done. Also sprayed weed killer on the walkway, another job on my list. Later on I have to mow the front lawn. I did get back to some machine time and quilted another bobbin. Had to do a quick cleaning of the machine as it was starting to sound funny. A decent amount of lint came out.. I need to find my vacuum hose kit - its got tiny attachments to get into sewing machine crevices. But I did a pretty decent job last night, enough to allow me to get back to sewing. I am enjoying listening to the birds singingā¦.windows are open. When the warmer temps come in, I will have to put the air conditioning on in a day or so.
Phyl- have you started working on the Christmas panel you just bought?
Sue- hope that you are doing ok. Keep in touch. We are always here for you with a smile and supporting word.

Ginny, yes how did you remember that? I have to do the back door and one of the front window frames and part of the front of the house. I'm not sure what our siding is called but it needs a touch up for sure. I know you're glad you went ahead and did that weeding and mulching. It will all looks so nice now although I bet it looked pretty nice already too. I'm glad to hear you got some machine time in also and thanks for reminding me that I need to look up a video to find out how to clean my machine. It hasn't been used all that much but I imagine it has lint in it.
I did get a couple more rows done on the cardi. I should finish it this weekend but yes it is much cooler. Now rain is a different question. When the forecast says rain most of the time we get only a few sprinkles. It now like in the east where it rains either steadily all day or off and on in decent amounts. The bad thing is sometimes we get a thunder storm and the lightening starts wildland fires. We 've had a couple already.
In a few minutes I'm going to start my things baking and then will be able to do some of my other work and then crochet some. I have to start thinking about what I want to do next. Dgd said she wants a Betta fish for her bday. Of course she means a live one swimming around in a bowl and I'm sure her parents will get her one but I'm going to crochet her one also. Her bday is not until August but time goes by fast.
Have a great day everyone. I'll see you all later

Hello Everyone Ginny - I'm glad to hear the new baby is doing well. Sounds like you have been busy in your yard, it's good to get that stuff done when the weather is cooler. Ruth - You have been busy too! I'd love to hear what you are baking, I miss baking things. A crocheted Betta fish sounds like a cute gift for your DGD to get along with a new live fish. Phyl and Sue - Hope you are getting to do some crafting. I went out yesterday to run some errands and then when I got home I also did some yardwork since that was the last cooler day we are having for awhile. It's a nice day here today, just warmer. This morning I worked on my Star quilt and finished making all 12 blocks and pieced them together for the center of the quilt. I've decided to add 2 inner borders - a 2 inch one and then a 3 inch one. After that's done I'll decide if I want to add a larger outer border using some patriotic fabric. I'd like to get this quilt done this weekend so I can work on the other quilt I already have the fabrics cut for. That is the Fat Quarter Fancy quilt and all the fabrics are white and blue, so I'm hoping it will be a pretty quilt top. I don't want to have any half done tops when July starts. Take care everyone have a great weekend!

Good evening, CJ- great minds think alikeā¦.well I would never consider myself a great mind, but it was a great idea to get your yard work done before it gets really hot. What color are the borders you are planning on using for the star quilt?? Sounds pretty and a patriotic border will be lovely.
Ruth, I dunno, somehow I just remember some stuff. Sorry you have to paint the door frame again, but it must see some severe weather to need an annual painting. What wonderful goodies did you bake today?? Hope that the cardigan is almost done!!
Yes, I pushed myself, got the front lawn mowed and also almost finished the front garden. I could use another bag or two of mulch, and that would be just to make the mulch more evenly distributed. It looks ok, but surely so much better than it did before.
Have a good night Ginny

CJ, I think that on a star quilt like that that a patriotic border would really be a great addition! I do hope you're able to get those quilts done before the 1st of July so that your plan will be completed. I should have set up a plan like that to get all m baby blankets completed. You sure have done a lot in the last couple days...the errands, all the yard work and all those blocks done and put together.
Well Ginny, you did remember correctly. That door is on the south side of the house where the wind blasts against it all the time. The window I'm doing is on the front and hasn't been painted in years and really needs it. Since it will be cool next week I'll try to work on it then. Oh you were right about the rain. Dh told me it rained quite a lot early this morning before I was up. Several times during the day it looked like it was going to rain again but it never did
I did get the body of the shawl cardigan done and now just have to do the sleeves and the rest of the edging around the body of it. I have the row across the bottom done so I'll finish that tomorrow and hope I can get at least one of the sleeves done then too. Then Sunday I can put on the finishing touches if any are needed and it will be done.
Actually I didn't do baking baking, I mostly did oven cooking. I did bake some cornbread and baked some sweet potatoes and made a meatloaf. Then I made homemade chicken strips mostly on the stove...browned then put in the oven to finish.
For my crochet plan I think I'll do the Betta first then start on the Christmas gifts until I decide what I want to make for the fall birthdays.I did see some nice lacey scarves that would be used mostly as decorative accessories rather than a scarf to use to keep warm that I may make. In other words my Christmas plan may be changing again.I can make the decorative scarves for the girls that have birthdays in the fall also. All these decisions!! now I have to decide on what yarn to use for each of these projects.

Ruth- glad you did get some rain, and hopefully enough to really soak the ground and keep wildfires down. I am glad to hear that you will be having some cooler temperatures to make outdoor work more pleasant. I think the idea of making accessory scarves is great, allowing the wearer to express their own creativity in an individual way. Hope that you have the right yarn for them and can find colors perfect for each granddaughter. Let this be an easy project- one in which you can enjoy the process and not have to stress over directions that are challenging to understand. The idea of a Betta fish is adorableā¦.and typically they are very colorful fish, so that should be fun to complete.
Humidity is risingā¦..later on I will put the AC on. Its nice and breezy out though, so I will hang my laundry out. See ya later Ginny

Hello Everyone Ruth - The food you made sounds good! I hope you can post a link to the pattern you'll use for the Betta fist, I'd love to see what it looks like. I think lacy scarfs are a nice gift, so many ways to use them to dress up an outfit. Ginny - I'm glad you got all that yardwork done before it gets really hot. I'm sure you are enjoying seeing your yard in good shape. Sue - Hope you don't have any problems with wildfires from your dry weather. I'm glad you'll get to see some family later this summer. Phyl - Your road trip and quilt shop visits sound really enjoyable, I'm glad you were able to do that. I hope you like the Flying Geese ruler - please let us know if one or both are good. I don't have a ruler for flying geese yet. It's a lot hotter here today around 90, and the rest of the week is supposed to be the same. I stay in most of the time once the weather gets this hot. I finished putting the 2 borders on the Elongated Stars quilt and I don't think I'm going to put a larger final border with patriotic fabric. I think that would overpower the quilt, so I'm just keeping it simple. I do think that I'll bind this quilt in the red fabric and I think that will set it off. I'm attaching a picture of the finished top. It finished at 55x70. I kind of wish I could have made it bigger, but I was ready to be done with it Now I can work on the top for the blue and white Fat Quarter Fancy quilt. I hope I can start on that tomorrow. Take care everyone!

Phyl, it's good to see you. I'm glad you had an enjoyable trip and found some quilting items that you like and hope those rulers work for you. CJ, that is a very beautiful quilt. I love those stars. I do think it would have looked great with the patriotic border but it's going to look fantastic with a plain red border also. I was thinking that the small stars would complement the larger stars but since you've had much more experience with these things than I do I'm sure your opinion is the better one. You definitely know what you're doing!!! Ginny, you were right about the rain and I'm sure surprised to see this much. It rained again early this morning and has rained very lightely a couple times since. the strange thing is, though, I have flower pots sitting on my deck stairs that are completely unprotected from rain but when I went out to plant something in one of them I found that barely an eighth of an in of the soil was wet and under that all dry dust. I got the edging done of the shawl but haven't started the sleeves yet but I did count the stitches she talks about in the pattern and there are the right number so we'll see how that goes. If all goes well it should be done today. This is probably what I'll use to make the fish. There is also a written patterns that's very similar so I'll decide once I watch the video www.youtube.com/watch?v=lI5okcUTsKw

www.sewingmachinesplus.com/tacony-qd2006.php?gclid=EAIaIQobChMImvvi78m28QIVCvSzCh2FwQnnEAQYCCABEgKwAfD_BwEThis is the link for the flying geese ruler I have- it in 2 sizes and it works really well. I recommend it as it makes flying geese reliably if you follow the directions Phyl- sounds like a very successful shopping day for you. And Phyl you buy Christmas fabric cause its so pretty and reminds us of a happy time of year. Think we all do thatā¦..make something beautiful with it!!! CJ- I agree with Phyl, just use the red border on the star quilt, which is lovely. Nice job!!!! IMO a simpler border shows the beauty of the stars moreā¦.the only other choice might be to use the patriotic fabric as corner stones in the outer border corners, but as that fabric is not used elsewhere, it might not work. Go simple. Its a lovely quilt. Ruth, the Betta fish pattern is adorable!!! Hope its not too tough to make. Good to hear that you are on the home stretch of the cardigan-shawl. Guess it rained hard by you but not long enough to soak in. Do you have flowers in the pots or vegetables?? I finished the free motion work on the falling charms. Yay!!!! Now have to trim the quilt and get the binding on. So glad that is done and I am anxious to see how it looks finished. My free motion work has lots of mistakes and imperfections but if you look at it overall its not horrific. Just do not look up close too much. Sue, how are you doing?? Ginny

I did buy the quilt in a day ones. not like I couldn't buy them here.
Creative grid makes some really nice ones. think you have to buy them one at a time and they are very expensive.phyl

Most of these quilting aids are pricey- never cheap. Do not remember how much I paid for mine, but the $8.95 that sewing machines plus is selling them for seems lower than what I must have paid for mine 3 years ago. I bought mine through the quilt shop that was offering BOM classes.

I bought mine at a quilt shop too when taking classes there
Got the shawl all done except for weaving in three ends which will take about a minute.Still taking care of septic tank issues too which takes away from my crochet time
