with the rain we've had the grass has grown and also those pesky weeds. It's too hot for yard work today so it will have to wait.
CJ, thanks for posting another great link. I like almost all of the blocks.
I did start yet another tote bag. These are to be gifts so I'll make quite a few. I want to make matching or coordinating water bottle holders to go with them.I do think that I need to quit making these for now and work on the birthday gifts for those family members that have birthdays in late summer and fall. that will necessitate me making decisions on what yarn to use and my craft room in probably the hottest room in the house
Have a great day everyone. I'll bbl

Ruth- hope you can decide what yarn to use for the gifts during a cooler part of the day. Perhaps you have a cooler day coming or can work in that room during early morning or evening. Absolutely, the rain makes the darned weeds grow ( so I am in for weeds now too). At least mosquitos are probably not a big problem where you are. I have to deal with them here.
Its raining here now, and I am pretty sure most of the coast has rain. Tomorrow we should be feeling the effects of Elsa. Hope CJ is ok. I have not had much news on today, not sure how the storm is progressing. Ginny

Yes I hope you are ok, CJ and that the storm hasn't done much of anything in your area. And I think it's a good idea to leave the starlite quilt sit temporarily until you feel like you want to find fabric that will work and that you'll like.
Ginny, yes mosquitoes are a huge problem here. I can't even go outside in the evening without getting many bites. Mosquitoes love me. I hope you don't get too bad effects from the storm either. Congrats on getting to the last side of the binding. I hope you'll be able to post a picture.
I finished tote bag #2. So now I'm going upstairs to find yarn either for tote bag3 or one of the gifts I want to make for Indy dgd #3 who's bday is in the first part of Nov. I would be great to get things done early.

totally agree Ruth, it would be so nice to get the tote bags and other fall birthday gifts done early!! Good to hear that you finished the second one. Gee, so sorry - I figured with the low humidity you probably did not have a big mosquito problem in your area. Yes, I will post a picture of the quilt when its done- I hope to work on it later on.
Plans for today are to finish painting the ceiling in the family room, getting a walk in (looks like I have about 3 hours late morning to accomplish that), and I think I get to baby sit the new grandson for a short while while his parents grab a quick meal out to celebrate a birthday. Better get busy on the ceiling, so I can be showered and ready to take a walk when the weather affords.

Yes you would think that there would be less or even no mosquitoes here. I do remember that back in 2006 when ddil's mother died and we took care of the three children while ddil and ds made arrangements and also cleared out her house, that we were able to sit out on the deck with no mosquito bites. Ever since then, though, if I just walk out for a minute or so I get bit. And I hate insect repellent.
What fun to have the baby while your dd and her dh go out for a short time! I'm looking forward to seeing the picture of your completed quilt. What one are you making for Sweet Tea?
I started tote #3 but I didn't like it so ripped it all out again and will start another one in a few minutes now that I have some of my "chores" done.

Hello Ginny - Good luck with getting your binding done this weekend. Hope you were able to get some painting done and that you enjoy babysitting. I hope you like the Starlite pattern. One thing I did do with it was go through and write out just the cutting instructions for the size that I wanted to make. It was a bit distracting to me to have to look at all the different sizes. Ruth - You are making a lot of progress on the totes and I hope you can get started on gifts for family members with birthdays coming up. Sorry your mosquitos are so bad there. I guess they might be bad here too, but I never go out at night to find out Phyl and Sue - Hope you are well. It was warm here today but we had a storm go through this afternoon, so hopefully that cools things down some. I did get my fabrics cut for the first block of Pat Sloan's quilt along this morning and just need to sew it together. I'm still not quite happy with my fabric choices for this quilt, so I'll see how it is as time goes on. I did get all my black and gray scrap blocks made and finished. Hopefully I'll have time to get to the browns later this month, so I can keep up with the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. I think we only have oranges and teals/aqua left. I'm also thinking about machine quilting a few more tops. I need to pick out a few and see if I can get a day when I can set up my machine I use for quilting. I'd like to do 2-3 a month just to keep in practice with machine quilting and with binding. Take care everyone and have a great weekend!

CJ- think its a great idea to keep your skills up for machine quilting and binding. I found that the binding for this and DD’s baby quilt I did not need directions at all for cutting and attaching strips. Its becoming second nature to me, which makes it much easier. Sounds like you are well set up for the rainbow scrap challenge. Its hard to believe that the end of that is not too far off. But then, neither is fall. Hope that you become more comfortable with your fabric choices for the Pat Sloan quilt. Thanks for the heads up on the starlite pattern. Upon initial glance, it seems well written with good diagrams. I hope it will be a fun quilt to put together.
Ruth, that stinks that you had to rip out tote #3. Did you not like the pattern?? Wonder why you had one summer without the dreaded mosquitos and now are inundated by them. Does anything like mint oil or lavender oil work for you? They are both supposed to be natural repellants. Hope you got your chores done and can go back to having some fun.
DGS slept the entire time he was here. Easiest babysitting ever!!! I knew I was going to have to “work” early in the evening and got more done on the binding. Hope I can finish it tonight….we shall see. I will take a picture of the quilt when done- hopefully soon. Got the ceiling painted, and might tomorrow start trimming out the walls. I will also add a picture of the quilt I hope to make for my crazy kitten.

CJ, I hope that the weather cools off for you. I know you would be happy to be able to open the windows. I'm sorry to hear that the fabrics you chose aren't measuring up to what you'd hoped they would be but it sounds like your're making good progress on the other blocks. I don't go out at night either and when I do I always tell dh that I'm going in at the first mosqito buzz.
So Ginny, did you pick him up and hold him while he was sleeping? I'd sure be tempted to do that. I still can feel how it was to hold my newest dgb against my chest as he slept. DD posted pictures of him on the 28th when he turned a month old. He's changed so much and was smiling his little head off as she talked to him. Looks like a completely different baby. And congratulations on getting so much of the binding done already. It sounds like it's going to be done sooner than you said.
The tote I was doing was a checkered bag. I was doing it in cotton yarn using a double crochet. I didn't like the way it looked so that's why I ripped it out. I'm going to start it again using a single crochet. I think it will look a lot nicer that way and be a more user friendly bag also.

www.fabriccafe.com/Easy-Does-It-3-Yard-Quilts-book-p/031950.htmFinally figured a way to get the pattern I am going to use for the mini quilt for my crazy kitten. I love this pattern, think its so cute. Ruth, no, I let the little fellow sleep in his car seat. I figured DD and DSIL would be about an hour (which they were) but did not want to tempt fate. Also as this was their first outing without the little fellow as new parents, I was hoping that they would not come back here to hear a screaming baby. They came back to quiet…..he was still very much asleep. Yes it was tempting to pick him up and hold him, but I did not. And they do change so very much!!! Sounds like your latest DGGS is doing well!!!! They are so very sweet when they smile.. Single crochet will make that bag more work for you but a tighter weave, yes more user friendly. Got a baby shower to attend this am, then will head home and start painting the walls, trimming them out. Ginny

I was defrosting my large freezer so that's why I haven't been here yet.Took all the food out and put it in coolers then after defrosting, of course washed the whole thing and put everything back in. There was a lot of frost buildup. Now I need a nap.
I love that quilt you're planning, Ginny. I also like #7 on that list a lot. Your kitten will be happy. I know Jane appreciated the help cleaning up after the shower.
I worked on the new #3 tote last night. It's an easy one so will probably be done today.

Hello Ruth - I'm sure it feels good to have the freezer done. Hope you get your #3 tote done today too. Ginny - Hope you enjoyed the baby shower. I like the quilt you picked from the Easy Does It book, I'll be interested to hear if you like making the pattern. It's warm here today, but less humid. I think the coming week is going to be very hot. I was able to piece together the first block for the Pat Sloan quilt along and I'm pretty satisfied with it. I only pulled yardage for this quilt along so I hope I'll do alright with all the blocks. Some quilters are using 30+ fat quarters for this quilt - but I think that is so they'll have more variety. I prefer to have a more cohesive quilt, rather than scrappy. I also think I have 2 fabrics I can add to the other two for the Starlite quilt along, so I may continue with that one now. I'm only doing a baby size quilt with 9 blocks, so if I end up not liking it then I haven't wasted too much fabric. I also pulled 2 quilt tops and cut some batting and backing for them. I'll let them lay out for a few days, so the batting can relax and then I hope to get them quilted and bound. Take care everyone!

CJ, I'm glad that you were able to find a couple more fabrics that will work well in your starlite quilt. Making it baby size is a good idea.
Ginny, I meant to mention the other day that when I was looking for something to keep rodents from chewing the covering on my vehicle wires all articles said to use peppermint oil so we did that. Also though that it was really good for keeping insects and spiders away. Well it sure did not do that. We've always had a lot of spiders including black widows and the spiders are still here. AND now we have a new insect that I've never seen before. It looks a lot like a scorpion but is not a scorpion. After researching for a few days I think that I may have found what it is but am still not sure. It may be a camel spider. They are ugly little things and little things is not correct because they are actually pretty large for an insect. I wish I knew where they were coming from so I could eliminate them. I'm going to try lavender and the other things you said (I'll have to look back). I just hope they aren't attracted by thinking the lavender is a nice flower for them. I don't like the idea of spraying pesticide in my house.
