If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board, you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you? Or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? Did you finish the bag of chips? cookies? or just spend the evening grazing? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgment that we have been there, done that and know we need and get the support from this great group of women and men.
Whether you are choosing to be AF or find you can achieve AIM (maximum of one drink per day for women and maximum of two drinks per day for men), please join us if you feel this challenge meets your needs.
The main focus of this board is to be ALCOHOL FREE. The focus of our new challenge is to commit ourselves to success, one day at a time, one hour at a time....success breeds success! Follow a healthy food plan, exercise and stay AF.
As with all of our challenges, everyone is welcomed. For some making the commitment for the entire challenge is the way to go, but day by day is also a way to go. No one is cut from the challenge, and if you don't want to be part of the challenge, you are still welcome to post.

New Challenge!
Labor of Love, July 7 - September 4
The word labor implies a specific task or effort, many times painful or arduous. A labor of love is doing something because you really want to, not because of any monetary reward you might get for it even though it involves hard work.
This challenge is all about a labor of love, reminding yourself to love yourself so it becomes your norm.
How often do we do something for someone else because it makes them happy and in turn makes us happy. But as the saying goes “how can you love someone else if you can’t love yourself”.
There are many ways we don’t show ourselves love. We are harder on ourselves than on anyone else. We go over and over “why did I drink too much” and the ever popular "if I lost weight I would be so much happier”. We are not showing ourselves love by overeating and over drinking, we are doing the opposite. To start forgive yourself, or tell yourself yesterday is done, tomorrow isn’t here, so let’s deal with the present.
So why is it so hard? The mind set "I messed up today so might as well just finish the bottle or finish the bag of chips” has to be changed.
The purpose of this eight week challenge is to discover the reasons behind our drinking and do the hard work it takes to change the behavior. It is a journey of self discovery that you may or may not want to share. This can be painful, this can be bring up old memories, this can be too difficult to tackle. The reasons are so varied. But remember this is a safe place to vent and share and if you are not comfortable sharing here, feel free to use our private FB site (by invitation request).
So does anyone think that alcohol is your friend? Anyone think that the next morning just looks so much better after a night of drinking? Does drinking bring you serenity? So why do we drink?
Some people can have an easy time of giving it up but for most, it just isn't that easy. Many of us start off great and then hit the wall at 10 days. Have you tried to journal your feelings as each day progresses and see what happens when you hit that wall?
"I will let the serene moments wash over me. I will cherish them. They soften me. And the blows of today's tumultuous storm will be lessened."
As with all of our challenges, everyone is welcomed.

DH & I walked at our usual park by the lake, then drove to another park by the lake and walked some more. The second park had more lake views, but we had to pay to get in, so I don't suppose we'll go there often in the summer. Our usual park also has an entrance fee, but there's no one there to collect it when we go. My replacement called from work while we were still at the park, I helped her with some stuff when we got home. I was lazy in the afternoon, made a beef stroganoff for dinner with the last of the leftover steak. We had rain and wind in the late afternoon/ evening.
Today is cloudy, but it's not supposed to rain until the afternoon, if then.
Murphy- Yay for sleeping in yesterday. Glad your motel ministry is able to help so many people. The amount of need is staggering. Glad your grubby day was productive. I usually don't put on makeup any more.
Jan- Glad you were able to get more steps with the Advil. The food coop sounds great. I got a Charge 4, which isn't too different than the Charge 3 I replaced. I've seen most of the Hallmark Christmas movies, but they did show a brand new one this past Saturday. I usually just copy and paste what I write here into the online journal, Journey.cloud. My grandfather kept journals, little leather bound books. My dad kept the tradition going in his later years and my mom started when my dad died. I'm not sure where they are.
Cathy- WTG for eating healthy and getting your clothes figured out. Hope you got the sleep you needed.
GG- Yay for the good report from your doctor! GL with PT. I sent your ornaments yesterday, please let me know when they arrive.
Carole- Hugs!
Cindy- Hugs!
Liz- Thinking of you and DH, hope everything went well.

July 7: ? 195 WI day Saturday July 14: July 21: July 28: August 4: August 11: August 18: August 25: September 1: Final Weigh In/September 4: Good morning, thanks to our early bird Barb, I can get on before DH gets up!! Maybe he's the one messing up my routine, ha ha, he's been up early the last few days, has the TV on, then I miss my quiet morning time. It's gray out today but hope to get some things done around here. I did 2 hours of cleaning construction grit, washing windows, cleaning in the bathrooms at the Co-op, all things I should be doing around our own house Did feel good to help out, talk to some people and see what's happening in the store. They did have crews starting to shelve the non perishables, still a lot to do but will be a nice. The health inspectors were coming today, hope they get the green light to set an opening day! DH got the front plants in and if we beat the rain we will get the bark down around them this morning. Still need a few more plants to fill in but can add them later when I find something I like. I made the 2 ing. dough Calzones last night for dinner, pretty yummy, now if I could just learn to limit the desserts after!! My sis sent pics that she and her DH went out to the cabin last evening and got the riding mower fixed..yay. Put the new wheel on and it worked fine. One project off my mind. Not sure if I'll head back up Friday or Saturday, see what the weather is up to. DH has to get a root canal sometime in the next week, not sure if that's a time I'll want/need to be home or if I'll want to be far away! See what he says. Guess I better get some more coffee in me while it's fresh. HOpe you all have a great day. Jan Murphy Thanks for getting us going. I love that you do the extra bags for people at the motel. I know we always wish we could do more, grateful some at church are helping you with funds. I need to do another donation run, I saw that Father Carr's Place, a church group that does meals etc too, is looking for hearty soups, peanut butter and some other things. Easy to pick up and drop off while I'm out shopping. Glad you're keeping busy and staying out of trouble! Enjoy the Senior meal day. Make up? ? what's that?? Cindy Glad the infusion is done and maybe you'll have a few days of relief. Check in when you can. Carole Sorry DH is stressing you out. Hope you're still taking care of yourself. How is the Biggest Loser going? Cathy Glad you can find clothes to still wear in your closet, doesn't sound like you'll be able to go out shopping anytime soon. Can you even do mail order and get things? It would make sense to move back here if your DH was gone, sure it would feel very different over here too after being gone so long. GG Glad the Dr was encouraging. Just keep up with your PT and soon you'll be chasing those GK's around again. Last night on a game show I learned that Pennsylvania was the mushroom capitol of the world ha ha I guessed Oregon! Have you started your new diet plan? Amy Did you get rain yesterday? Have you felt OK being off the Prednisone? My toe joint is feeling much better, sure all the water and Advil are helping but finally feel I can stand on it again and not limp around. Can't imagine when all the parts are achy. Hugs to you. We are going to make stroganoff with our left over steak tonight too!! I'll have to look at the journal site. I saw some I liked on Amazon, may just order 3 to get the free shipping at $25. I have the Charge 4 and like it, hope it keeps working!! Liz Thinking of you. Back later

Good morning everyone!
Before I am off and running, well walking at a snail's pace, I wanted to let you all know that DH's surgery was successful with no complications. It was a long night before the surgery, and a long day yesterday. He finally got up to a patient room around 9 PM; he called me too, so that is a good sign. The surgeon called me around 5:30 and was pleased with the way things went and that no "bag" would be needed. We also discussed his blood thinner and he was going to talk to Christy's PC. Other than that I don't know anything else regarding follow up treatment, probably once they are ready to discharge him. Just feeling so blessed and thankful that we have the medical access that we do. It was all done with 3 little incisions and a robot with the surgeon handling the robot's "hands". I marvel at how far technology has come and we are so grateful for it. Both my son and husband have reaped the benefit of robotic surgery.
I am going to DD's to watch Isabel for Elyse's 10:30 zoom meeting then going to the hospital to visit DH.
Thank you, thank you, for all your thoughts, prayers, and warm wishes! Love you all!!

Liz - I am so happy that DH's surgery went well! Continuing to keep both of you in my prayers. Enjoy snuggling with Isabel!!
Jan - so glad that the work at the co-op went well.
Amy - pity that you had to pay just to take a walk around the lake!! I love beef stroganoff! I have a easy crock pot recipe and I need to see if I can cut it down to a serving for 2. Do you eat yours with noodles or rice?
Cindy - glad the infusion is over. Hope it gives you quick relief!
Carole - so sorry that DH is getting on your nerves! Is he working now?
Cathy - I have an app called Stylebook on my iPad and I like putting together outfits with it. Stay safe ok?
Nothing big going on here. I need to do a little HOA bookkeeping but that shouldn't take much time. I think I'll make a little pot of veggie soup this afternoon. It's grey and cloudy outside and looks like good soup weather! LOL. Everyone have a great Tuesday! Murphy

Hi girls. Well, I knew I was tired yesterday. I fell asleep on the couch. DH woke me up to get me settled downstairs before he went to bed. I got up and my muscles were so stiff I could hardly move. I headed towards the steps and got dizzy again. I was able to get to the kitchen chair to sit down. I came soooo close to passing out again. I didn’t get up fast. I think it was so sore I must have held my breath or something. If this continues, I will have to see my dr. Scary. My muscles feel better today. My PT canceled for today. He’s coming tomorrow instead to discharge me. Then I will have to sign up for PT at our local place. The dr said I could drive. Not as long as this keeps happening! 2 friends came by for a visit today. So much fun! Lots of laughter!
Cindy: I’m glad you got your infusion. How long before you feel better? How’s DS doing on the job hunt?
Murphy: That is an incredible amount of meals! It’s sad that we have that in America!
Liz: I’m so glad DH’s surgery went well and that he was able to call you!
Jan: I totally understand about having your quiet time disturbed! We haven’t started yet. I’m still looking up recipes and trying to make a meal plan. Then we will need to go for a grocery run. Each meal we are to have 2 proteins, 1 carb, 2 or more veggies, and 1 fat. I think the hardest thing for me will be no snacking. 3 meals a day. But if it works……
Cathy: I can’t even imagine!
Amy: The cartoon is what DH says!! He’s only supposed to have 1 beer a day on the plan. If he only cuts down, that would still be good! I’ll keep an eye out for the ornaments!
Carole: Sorry about DH. I figure I’m the one that controls the mood at our house. If I don’t participate, it stops. Keep smiling!

Liz, continued prayers for DH. And you.
I went for a walk tonight, my hair looks like Roseanne Rosanna Dana —remember Gilda Radner in SNL?!! It’s a big humid. The mosquitoes are out, yuck! On my walk I ran into an acquaintance, her DH has been diagnosed with MS so sad, a nice guy. They are looking to move into a ranch because they know stairs will be a problem in 5-8 years. Still not happy with DH, if I had the resources, I really think I’d divorce him. I don’t know how I’d even pay a lawyer though.
Amy, I think you need to remind work you’re retired!
Jan, the co op sounds really cool! I admire you jumping in to help and meet new people.
Cathy, good for you going through all of your clothes!!
Murphy, Cindy, gg-hi! Lots of love to you.

How will you lover yourself today?✔️ ❌❔ Move More Accountability ❌too hot and humid-not motivated Sleep Accountability✔️ 7 hours last night Nutrition Accountability✔️ eating healthy Journal Accountability✔️ tracking on ITB and paper Happiness Accountability✔️ in charge of my own happiness Habit Accountability✔️ balanced meals happening Check in Daily Accountability✔️ I'm here Time Management Accountability✔️ might be iffy? Labor of Loving yourself first! July 7: 163.2 July 14: 161.6 July 21: July 28: August 4: August 11: August 18: August 25: September 1: Final Weigh In/September 4: <161.6> (new low)
A friend called this morning asking me to join her and another of our friends this afternoon. All of us have now had both vaccinations and have been careful with protocols to avoid Covid-19. We will meet outside wearing masks on her balcony and play cards. I will take my own ice tea and hand sanitizer and am kind of looking forward to it. I even put mascara on! The only potential caution is that Delta variation is rearing its head here in Lebanon and one never knows for sure how careful everyone encountered is when and if they are out and about.
I made atayfee for lunch (think some call it red spinach and others say it is amaranth). You cook onions, add the clean bite-size-chopped leaves and then later add in cooked bulgur. We had it with black eyed peas, hummus and then had cantaloupe for dessert.
MURPHY: the app sounds interesting for creating costumes
AMY: It must be nice to have a routine place that is safe to walk JAN: A friend and I were talking...to move back to the USA would cost a LOT...housing, insurance, transportation and the list goes on. AND it is nearly impossible to get what a house/land is worth or to access the money even if it is transferred from one person's account to another in a property sale. So...for now we will stay as we are. How much time do you spend at home vs at the cabin?
LIZ: Was excited to hear your husband did so well...waiting to hear how he is after surgery and being in ICU.
CAROL: Sorry to hear about your friend's husband diagnosed with MS. Your hair must be...cute...I always wanted curly hair.
GG: Did they play around with your medication after surgery? I remember my father being dizzy because they played with his hypertension medications since his BP was high...so when he stood up it would drop and he would faint.
CINDY: Hope you slept well after the poor night of no-sleep.
