If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board, you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you? Or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? Did you finish the bag of chips? cookies? or just spend the evening grazing? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgment that we have been there, done that and know we need and get the support from this great group of women and men.
Whether you are choosing to be AF or find you can achieve AIM (maximum of one drink per day for women and maximum of two drinks per day for men), please join us if you feel this challenge meets your needs.
The main focus of this board is to be ALCOHOL FREE. The focus of our new challenge is to commit ourselves to success, one day at a time, one hour at a time....success breeds success! Follow a healthy food plan, exercise and stay AF.
As with all of our challenges, everyone is welcomed. For some making the commitment for the entire challenge is the way to go, but day by day is also a way to go. No one is cut from the challenge, and if you don't want to be part of the challenge, you are still welcome to post.

New Challenge!
Labor of Love, July 7 - September 4
The word labor implies a specific task or effort, many times painful or arduous. A labor of love is doing something because you really want to, not because of any monetary reward you might get for it even though it involves hard work.
This challenge is all about a labor of love, reminding yourself to love yourself so it becomes your norm.
How often do we do something for someone else because it makes them happy and in turn makes us happy. But as the saying goes “how can you love someone else if you can’t love yourself”.
There are many ways we don’t show ourselves love. We are harder on ourselves than on anyone else. We go over and over “why did I drink too much” and the ever popular "if I lost weight I would be so much happier”. We are not showing ourselves love by overeating and over drinking, we are doing the opposite. To start forgive yourself, or tell yourself yesterday is done, tomorrow isn’t here, so let’s deal with the present.
So why is it so hard? The mind set "I messed up today so might as well just finish the bottle or finish the bag of chips” has to be changed.
The purpose of this eight week challenge is to discover the reasons behind our drinking and do the hard work it takes to change the behavior. It is a journey of self discovery that you may or may not want to share. This can be painful, this can be bring up old memories, this can be too difficult to tackle. The reasons are so varied. But remember this is a safe place to vent and share and if you are not comfortable sharing here, feel free to use our private FB site (by invitation request).
So does anyone think that alcohol is your friend? Anyone think that the next morning just looks so much better after a night of drinking? Does drinking bring you serenity? So why do we drink?
Some people can have an easy time of giving it up but for most, it just isn't that easy. Many of us start off great and then hit the wall at 10 days. Have you tried to journal your feelings as each day progresses and see what happens when you hit that wall?
"I will let the serene moments wash over me. I will cherish them. They soften me. And the blows of today's tumultuous storm will be lessened."
As with all of our challenges, everyone is welcomed.

Congratulations!
I was pleasantly surprised to only see a slight gain this week given how we ate on the trip! Now is the time to get serious though! Had a good night's sleep and having my coffee now. I talked with the bank yesterday about refinancing my mortgage to cover the cost of the new roof and was very happy with what I found out. Waiting to hear back on the final stuff and hopefully will hear that today. We are still waiting on the contractor to get back to us and I hope that will be in the next week or so. Going to have more coffee now and will BBL Murphy

Liz - I'm so sorry DH had a complication! Keeping both of you in my prayers and waiting to hear a report.
Carole - I'm just so sorry you and DH are in a rough time. Sending big hugs! I remember Rosanne from SNL!! Everyone had "puffy" hair in Jekyll Island because it was so humid!
GG - When you get discharged by the home PT, how often will you need to go to the physical therapy center? You are just making such great progress! Are you going to try going to the grocery store or will you send DH?
Cathy - enjoy your time with your friends! Delta variant worries me too although I haven't heard about any cases around me.
Cindy - these sleepless nights just wear me out! I feel lucky if I get two good night's sleep in a row! LOL
Jan - will you go back to the co-op today?
Amy - how was the stroganoff?
No big plans for today. I do need to rearrange some stuff on a shelf in the garage where I keep the stuff for the grocery bags. I have choir rehearsal tonight. Hoping to hear back from the bank today and then I can start making some plans. Hope everyone has a great day! Murphy

How will you love yourself today? I will take care of my mind and body. Baby steps are steps. Move More Accountability: 4 Advil helped 7000+ steps walking around Costco etc. 10/11 hours 8 FP, trying for 10000 today!! Sleep Accountability: 3 Crazy dream sleep, 7+ hours 73 sleep score, fair Nutrition Accountability: 2 38/23 2 glasses of Merlot with stroganoff, then cookie, trail mix but tracked Journal Accountability: 5 Wrote this morning and every day. Also wrote a sheet of goals and ideas for the challenge. Found a new journal Happiness Accountability: 5 Feeling good just not a lot of motivation Habit Accountability: Get back to drinking all my water and getting in more walks Check in Daily Accountability: 5 I'm back!! Time Management Accountability 4 Need to get a to do list started, not get hooked back into the screen Labor of Loving yourself first! July 7: ? 195 WI day Saturday July 14: July 21: July 28: August 4: August 11: August 18: August 25: September 1: Final Weigh In/September 4: Good morning all. Some good things, some not so good things yesterday. Got things at Costco, have a rotisserie chicken for the next couple of days, bought some good salmon. I plan the right things Then drank 2 glasses of the wine we had to put into the stroganoff, AIM and BOT today. My foot is feeling better, going to try a few shorter walks and see if I can get more steps today. I've figured out I need a plan from 4-bedtime, when I get to boredom mode, TV is not interesting, or at least what DH has on. I hate to just go hide in my upstairs room but it's too easy to join in for a drink when I'm not occupied. Maybe I need a night job Got the bark spread in front, some big storms are supposed to come through later today but nice right now. We have already had pancakes, bacon, strawberries, now to try to parcel out my remaining 10 points for the day. I just figure if I never give up I'm still in the game. I've kept off 25 # and I just need to figure out the next 20. Staying the same isn't terrible, I just know it could be better. Better get working on my to do list. Have a great day all Jan Murphy Not going to the Coop today, need to get my things done here before heading back to the cabin. Think I'm going Friday morning. You did on vacation! Let's get into the next decade by the end of this challenge!!! Liz So sorry to hear about DH. Hope there is better news this morning. Hugs to you and your family. Cindy Hope the book was a good one but now you need to get some sleep!!!!! Cathy Enjoy the day with your friends, I'm sure it will feel wonderful to get together. I worry about the Delta too. Just when everyone is now not wearing masks and everything is reopen, people will be very angry if things shut down again, yet people still won't get vaccinated. It's different at the cabin now that we live closer. I used to leave California in early June and then stay until school was going to start, or after retiring I'd stay until after Labor Day. Now I go for a week or 10 days, come home a few and then back. Liked my long stretches of time, felt I got a lot done but could also "vacation" and play. Now I feel I mostly "work". this next week my cousins are coming up so I am planning to just Play!! Yay for the scale!!!!!!!!!!!!! Carole Sorry about the rough times with DH. If you would need to get out, you would be able to find a way. Do you say anything to Lex about it or just keep quiet? Hugs. GG Hope you're feeling better this morning. Good thinking from Cathy, has any of your other meds changed or could it be an interaction? No driving for sure until it's figured out. Drinking enough water and eating enough? Check in with the Dr. if you need too. GL on your new eating plan. It's never about the plan for me, it's about doing it!! Can DH just drink one beer and call it good or will it just make him crabby? Amy Hope you are out enjoying a walk and not working too much today. Yesterday's TOTD was totally me. Trying to lose that mindset. Better get my 8 o clock steps in. check in later!!

Hi girls! I was down 2 pounds today!! Woohoo!! And that was with DH feeding me! He did good!! Moving more is making a difference! And I was -4 in my weeklies! I always do better when I eat my weeklies. Why can’t I seem to remember that? I am officially discharged from home therapy. I got an A++! He gave me some new standing exercises to do. Of course, after doing them I’m sore! But that shows it’s working! I’ll call later to set up my outpatient therapy. I asked him about the passing out, and he said that bearing down when in pain plus holding my breath could definitely have caused the dizziness. But if it happens again to check with my PCP. The girl that cuts my hair is coming soon. I haven’t had product in my hair since she cut it before my surgery! Normally I would have waited a week, but she will be on vacation.
Liz: I am so sorry DH had a setback. Lifting prayers for you all!
Carole: Hugs girlfriend. Stay close to the Lord! This too shall pass.
Murphy: Yay for the refinancing and maintaining! Did you do any dancing at the reception? When we get the stuff for the new plan, I’m thinking we will go together to the store.
Cindy: Sleepless nights are terrible. I am finding I am sleeping better now that my hip is fixed. It must have bothered me more than I knew!
Jan: How long does it take to travel to the cabin? I’m glad you are going for fun and not work! DDIL left this morning to take her mom and a friend to Amish Country. I told her next year I want to go. The highlight of their trip is wine tasting at all the wineries. I will be the DD! I have no desire to go down that road again! Will DH be able? Will he even follow the plan? Time will tell! He went to a sports bar yesterday while my friends were here. He always drinks the IPA’s while there and then continues the buzz when he gets home. Last night was no different. He stayed downstairs so I didn’t have to witness it.
Cathy: I know you will enjoy being with your friends!! No medication changes. I have a history of getting up too fast and getting dizzy, or holding my breath and getting dizzy. I just need to be careful.
Oops, my girl is here!

Move More Accountability: 4, walked at the lake, laps in the basement, 250 steps 7/8 hours, 11,000+ steps, 24 FP, counter push ups and stretching Sleep Accountability: 3, trouble falling asleep, then slept well, didn't want to get up Nutrition Accountability: 4, 20/23, blue dot, rollovers Journal Accountability: 4, continuing online journal Happiness Accountability: 4, enjoyed the day, watched UpTV movie, stitched, read before bed Habit Accountability: 5, drinking more water than Diet Coke Check in Daily Accountability: 5, I'm here! Time Management Accountability: 3, weeded, a little bit of stuff for work, washed sheets Number Of Days AF (mostly alcohol free since August 16, 2006): 5437; ANIM: 1 (021221)
Labor of Loving yourself first! July 7-Sep 4
July 7 start weight: 175.3 July 14: 174.9 July 21: July 28: August 4: August 11: August 18: August 25: September 1: Final Weigh In/September 4:
After DH & I got home from walking at the lake, I weeded for about an hour. Came in, took a shower, put my jammies on, had breakfast/lunch, and that was pretty much it for the day. Did about a half hour of stuff for work, then napped. I got an email from Fitbit customer service offering a 35% discount on a new one. I'll have to see what that looks like in $$$.
Today is starting out partly sunny and humid. DD is excited about getting off an hour early today. I started this post before taking DD to work, we're back now. I spritzed the crab grass, watered the porch plants.
Jan- WTG AF, blue dot, more steps, working at the coop, & a nap on Monday. Sorry DH's getting up early is messing with your routine. Yay for toe being better, DH planting the plants in front and for the riding mower at the cabin being fixed. I'm still on Prednisone. After I was off of it for 5 days, both my pain and the inflammatory marker in my blood went up, so she put me back on 2mg, which helped with the pain.
Liz- Glad the initial surgery went well, with no colostomy. Sorry he had to go back, hope he's just in ICU as a precaution.
Murphy- Yay for only a slight gain on vacation & being able to refinance to pay for your roof. I like stroganoff on noodles.
GG- Hope you are feeling better. Are you able to check your blood pressure at home? A low B/P is usually the cause of dizziness. Make sure you are well hydrated and keep breathing!
Carole- LOL over your Roseanne Rosana Dana hair. Sorry things aren't good with DH.
Cathy- WTG tracking, new low on the scale. Yay for cards with your friend. I am very lucky to have nice, safe places to walk.

Hi Everyone!
These sleepless nights are not helpful for getting things done.
Murphy, hope you heard back from the bank. How was choir practice?
Jan, the Coop sounds wonderful. Does it have all the members do a bit of volunteering? Yay for having more cabin time and your cousins visiting.
Cathy, have a wonderful time with friends. Congrats on the new low!
GG, concerned about your dizziness and had the same thought as Amy about BP. Congrats on the loss!! and getting an A++!
Amy, glad to read you were in your jammies early in the day. I've been worse than normal about staying in "lounge wear" but nice to not be alone.
Carole, definitely remember Rosanne Rosanna Dana skits. Gilda Radnor was great! Bet your hair looks fun! I hope the situation with DH improves.
Liz, thinking of you, DH and family! Hugs!
DS finally shaved off his mustache and beard...and already misses it. He is getting his haircut tomorrow. He was looking a bit shaggy. He is getting some interviews (Zoom??) and figures he needs to look professional. He isn't excited about the jobs but who knows. He and I are both in pensive moods...today is the 6th anniversary of DH passing.
Think I'll watch the rest of the basketball game....game four!
Hugs to all, Cindy

How will you lover yourself today?✔️ ❌❔ Move More Accountability ❌too hot and humid-not motivated Sleep Accountability✔️ 7 hours last night Nutrition Accountability✔️ eating healthy Journal Accountability✔️ tracking on ITB and paper Happiness Accountability✔️ in charge of my own happiness Habit Accountability✔️ balanced meals happening Check in Daily Accountability✔️ I'm here Time Management Accountability✔️ might be iffy? Labor of Loving yourself first! July 7: 163.2 July 14: 161.6 July 21: July 28: August 4: August 11: August 18: August 25: September 1: Final Weigh In/September 4: <161.6> (day 2)
Got together with two friends that have both been vaccinated. It was wonderful but strange to be together after almost two years! We caught up, played cards, did not eat, I took my own iced tea, and agreed to get together again next week. In two weeks we will see if/how we can get together with some of the others and stay a distance from them as somost of t hem are interacting with more people than we are (families home for summer, etc) and though vaccinated could carry covid.
MURPHY: There is an increase in the numbers of cases in Lebanon after a downswing so we are being cautious. The health care is not great here and the hospitals now want pre-payment or guarantee that you have money to pay for services and if you have insurance it may not be respected as insurance companies and the government insurance are not paying out or not paying the cost of the services. Better safe than sorry!
JAN: Good job keeping off the weight you have! You will lose more when you are ready. Perhaps your body needed a break! I know how it is to "go on vacation" and be on vacation...we used to do that when we lived outside and would go "home" to the USA or to Lebanon. We had so much more time to do things, socialize and such. Now, with the house and garden and such...we don't do those fun things. Have fun with your relatives!
GG: Hooray for the high marks from PT and on doing such a good job of healing!
AMY: Is your daughter enjoying her new job? I read that you had spritzed your crab CAKES and did a double take...and reread...crab GRASS...hee hee
CINDY: I wish your son luck on his interviews if he is ready for a change. I hope he finds the perfect job. Sorry you are in the blues on the anniversary of your husband's passing. Hope you sleep better soon!
