If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board, you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you? Or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? Did you finish the bag of chips? cookies? or just spend the evening grazing? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgment that we have been there, done that and know we need and get the support from this great group of women and men.
Whether you are choosing to be AF or find you can achieve AIM (maximum of one drink per day for women and maximum of two drinks per day for men), please join us if you feel this challenge meets your needs.
The main focus of this board is to be ALCOHOL FREE. The focus of our new challenge is to commit ourselves to success, one day at a time, one hour at a time....success breeds success! Follow a healthy food plan, exercise and stay AF.
As with all of our challenges, everyone is welcomed. For some making the commitment for the entire challenge is the way to go, but day by day is also a way to go. No one is cut from the challenge, and if you don't want to be part of the challenge, you are still welcome to post.

New Challenge!
Labor of Love, July 7 - September 4
The word labor implies a specific task or effort, many times painful or arduous. A labor of love is doing something because you really want to, not because of any monetary reward you might get for it even though it involves hard work.
This challenge is all about a labor of love, reminding yourself to love yourself so it becomes your norm.
How often do we do something for someone else because it makes them happy and in turn makes us happy. But as the saying goes “how can you love someone else if you can’t love yourself”.
There are many ways we don’t show ourselves love. We are harder on ourselves than on anyone else. We go over and over “why did I drink too much” and the ever popular "if I lost weight I would be so much happier”. We are not showing ourselves love by overeating and over drinking, we are doing the opposite. To start forgive yourself, or tell yourself yesterday is done, tomorrow isn’t here, so let’s deal with the present.
So why is it so hard? The mind set "I messed up today so might as well just finish the bottle or finish the bag of chips” has to be changed.
The purpose of this eight week challenge is to discover the reasons behind our drinking and do the hard work it takes to change the behavior. It is a journey of self discovery that you may or may not want to share. This can be painful, this can be bring up old memories, this can be too difficult to tackle. The reasons are so varied. But remember this is a safe place to vent and share and if you are not comfortable sharing here, feel free to use our private FB site (by invitation request).
So does anyone think that alcohol is your friend? Anyone think that the next morning just looks so much better after a night of drinking? Does drinking bring you serenity? So why do we drink?
Some people can have an easy time of giving it up but for most, it just isn't that easy. Many of us start off great and then hit the wall at 10 days. Have you tried to journal your feelings as each day progresses and see what happens when you hit that wall?
"I will let the serene moments wash over me. I will cherish them. They soften me. And the blows of today's tumultuous storm will be lessened."

Good morning all! It's supposed to storm this morning and I'm already hearing the thunder. The parking lot at church is big so it will be a soggy walk into church! Hope everyone has a great morning! Murphy

Tried on bathing suits...one was huge and the other showed every flaw...it looked good from the front but it is amazing how much thicker I look from the side! Anyway, not going swimming so not a problem! No real news...I have a book read and a review to write and no doubt another book waiting to be read and reviewed.
MURPHY: I hope that the church is on high ground so you don't have to wade through puddles. Hooray for being able to drive by the A-store.
LIZ: I hope you were able to talk to someone to find out how your husband is doing and what the plan is. I will keep your husband and you in my thoughts and prayers.
GG: How marvelous to have slept well. Is the foot that went numb used for piano pedals? I hope it was just a little glitch and all is fine now.
CINDY: I hop your son finds a great job that will make him happy. Hope the allergy medicine helps! I hope your nephew does okay.

I am generally pretty lazy on the weekends, but yesterday I managed to be even lazier. Slept in until almost 8:30, then DH, DS, & I took the golf cart to the nature trail, came back and had breakfast with DD, then I settled on the couch for most of the rest of the day other than doing a load of laundry and tidying up the kitchen. Had the Hallmark channel on most of the day, watching Christmas movies I had already seen. Managed to get up 7/8 hours when my Fitbit buzzed me. I think I was napping during one of the hours. Nobody had any ideas for dinner, so DD & I had grilled cheese sandwiches, DH just skipped it.
I slept in until almost 8:30 again this morning. It's cloudy and supposed to rain this afternoon. DH & I will head out for a walk soon. I've got several things on my to-do list, we'll see if anything gets down. I put up a second hummingbird feeder outside my office window, there are several out there, chasing each other around. The second one is larger, made of beautiful red glass, but they seem to prefer the cheap plastic one, LOL.
Liz- So sorry DH is not progressing, sending prayers.
Jan- Hope you are enjoying the river channel! The county fair sounds fun, they are happening this week and next where I grew up. Glad your toe is better. What kind of pie was it?
Cathy- Is your profile pic new? Glad you are enjoying your short haircut. Sorry about the electricity, fingers crossed it's on more than off.
GG- Glad you are doing well, 9/9 250 steps. Then numbness & foot drop is concerning, be sure to report it if it continues.
Murphy- Thanks for getting us started and for checking on me yesterday. WTG driving past the A store. GL with the rain today.
Cindy- Hope you slept better & the allergy med clears up the cough. Was DS interested in any of the jobs? Sorry about the grim news from your nephew. Hope you get your gutters soon. We bought several of those cheap cardboard scratching pads when we moved in here, for the most part the cats leave the furniture alone. Annie loves hers so much, she sits on it when she is not sitting in the window.

Hi again. Church was really good. Then I went out to lunch with my friend and her daughter. We went to Olive Garden but I just had soup and salad. I'm stuffed though! I'm just going to be lazy this afternoon and then go back to church. We haven't had evening services since Covid started but tonight we are going to have a service to go over the plans for our new building. Thinking of all of you! Murphy

Hi girls. Got 9/9 active hours and over 3000 steps yesterday. No more weird stuff with my foot. Next time I play the piano, I’ll sit on a pillow and see if that helps. We’ve decided to start the new plan on Weds, my normal Wi day. So that means I need to get the meal plan ready for at least a few days so we can get what we need. DD and family is coming when Rylee gets up from her nap. 🥰
Cindy: What kinds of positions has ds been applying for?
Murphy: Yay for Sunday night services! I’m enjoying both my church service and the kids services online.
Amy: I wondered what happened yesterday! You very seldom miss posting! Yay for sleeping in!
Cathy: What a nice picture!
Liz: Hope all is well.

Hi friends! We had a great time at my friends cottage! The weather wasn’t Good Friday or Saturday—Cindy wanted to surprise a friend at work so we went to Ace Hardware! Oh. My. Gosh ! It was the best! They had a gift section, Christmas ornaments, Svorsky (?) crystal jewelry and Chala purses. I’ve only found them in FL and Las Vegas. I bought the cutest wristlet. Between the 5 of us we probably spent $400! At Ace! It cracks me up! Today the weather was perfect, so we left at dinner time instead of breakfast time. We took the pontoon boat out, floated on some rafts. I was ANIM, quite honestly planned on drinking but thought the beer I brought would last the 2 days I was there, it didn’t. We just laughed and laughed!
Amy, your day on the couch sounds wonderful!
Liz, you did not step over the line, I welcome honest thoughts. I’m praying for your DH.
Jan, have a wonderful time at your cabin. I forgot how peaceful my DF place is.
Cindy, hugs to you. I’m keeping your DS in my prayers.
Cathy, what will you do with all of that wheat? Do you sell some?
Gg, sounds like you’re doing great with PT! Good for you!
Murphy, how did motel ministry go?
Good night all. Love you all.

Hi All!
Umm, when a person has too much time on his hands...umm the roomba starts working in the middle of the night...cuz it is programmed to his phone. Cat and I are ensconced in my room so really doesn't matter other than make me laugh and nice to wake up to vacuumed rugs.
DS is applying for banking jobs mainly but branching out to any financial positions/fraud/etc. He is just between being over qualified and not enough experience. Something will break. He is doing volunteer work/"donations" for computer work. Gotta trust something will break.
Umm....three years today AF. I do worry about DS...what might tip him over...have to have faith and I do but doesn't stop me from worrying.
Amy, so glad to hear from you today...you were missed. Glad you had a great weekend with snoozing and Hallmark movies along with all the other stuff. If you were lazy, I was a sloth. (I think I was!) Loved the thought of the day. I am having difficulties dealing with my nephew's diagnosis. This week will provide more answers. My hummingbirds like the cheap plastic feeders as well.
Murphy, thanks for getting us started. Hope you had a good church service and good conversation about plans for new building. Haven't been to Olive Garden for quite awhile but love the soup. Hope conversation with friend was fun.
GG, is DH joining you in the new food plan? Hope you had a wonderful time with family. How are you feeling?
Liz, thinking of you and DH. Let us know when you can. Hugs and prayers. Take good care of yourself.
Cathy, didn't post on FB, but thought your hair looked great! Hope you have electricity. That is a lot of wheat. Supposedly we are having a wheat shortage. I haven't tried on a bathing suit since??? forever?? Makes me think I should tried some on and get rid of what will never work.
Jan, hope you are having a wonderful time at the cabin and projects are getting done.
Carole, loved the photo on FB...your hair looked great!
I'm watching way too much TV but loving watching so many mysteries. I am planning/hoping/trying to get my steps up this week. Did a better job this morning but fell off this afternoon. Need to do some practical stuff tomorrow. Hope springs eternal!
Hugs to all, Cindy
