If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board, you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you? Or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? Did you finish the bag of chips? cookies? or just spend the evening grazing? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgment that we have been there, done that and know we need and get the support from this great group of women and men.
Whether you are choosing to be AF or find you can achieve AIM (maximum of one drink per day for women and maximum of two drinks per day for men), please join us if you feel this challenge meets your needs.
The main focus of this board is to be ALCOHOL FREE. The focus of our new challenge is to commit ourselves to success, one day at a time, one hour at a time....success breeds success! Follow a healthy food plan, exercise and stay AF.
As with all of our challenges, everyone is welcomed. For some making the commitment for the entire challenge is the way to go, but day by day is also a way to go. No one is cut from the challenge, and if you don't want to be part of the challenge, you are still welcome to post.

New Challenge!
Labor of Love, July 7 - September 4
The word labor implies a specific task or effort, many times painful or arduous. A labor of love is doing something because you really want to, not because of any monetary reward you might get for it even though it involves hard work.
This challenge is all about a labor of love, reminding yourself to love yourself so it becomes your norm.
How often do we do something for someone else because it makes them happy and in turn makes us happy. But as the saying goes “how can you love someone else if you can’t love yourself”.
There are many ways we don’t show ourselves love. We are harder on ourselves than on anyone else. We go over and over “why did I drink too much” and the ever popular "if I lost weight I would be so much happier”. We are not showing ourselves love by overeating and over drinking, we are doing the opposite. To start forgive yourself, or tell yourself yesterday is done, tomorrow isn’t here, so let’s deal with the present.
So why is it so hard? The mind set "I messed up today so might as well just finish the bottle or finish the bag of chips” has to be changed.
The purpose of this eight week challenge is to discover the reasons behind our drinking and do the hard work it takes to change the behavior. It is a journey of self discovery that you may or may not want to share. This can be painful, this can be bring up old memories, this can be too difficult to tackle. The reasons are so varied. But remember this is a safe place to vent and share and if you are not comfortable sharing here, feel free to use our private FB site (by invitation request).
So does anyone think that alcohol is your friend? Anyone think that the next morning just looks so much better after a night of drinking? Does drinking bring you serenity? So why do we drink?
Some people can have an easy time of giving it up but for most, it just isn't that easy. Many of us start off great and then hit the wall at 10 days. Have you tried to journal your feelings as each day progresses and see what happens when you hit that wall?
"I will let the serene moments wash over me. I will cherish them. They soften me. And the blows of today's tumultuous storm will be lessened."

Morning all. I got word yesterday afternoon that Bud was in the ER and I spent the evening with Carolyn at the hospital. He was admitted after a 8 hour wait in the ER and they think that he had a slight stroke. I haven't talked with her yet this morning but I imagine I will be at the hospital with her again today. Don't get me started about their son and daughter! I had to basically order their son to go get his mother something to eat and get himself to the hospital! Don't think their daughter ever came. Oh well. I'lll check back later. Murphy

It was raining when we took DD to work but had slowed to a light sprinkle on the way home so we decided to walk at the clubhouse. There was a couple with two little white dogs that barked up a storm every time we got near, so we avoided them as best we could. When we got home I did stuff for work for about an hour. The freezer was supposed to be delivered between 4 and 8 pm, but they called around 1pm to see if they could come earlier. They showed up a little after 2pm and fortunately it was not raining. They decided it was easier to take the freezer down the hill to the basement door on a hand cart rather than use the narrow basement stairs inside the house. I'm excited to fill it up with food. I've never seen a model like this, you can switch it to refrigerator mode if needed. I can't see us ever using it for that, but it's an interesting feature.
DH & DD came home with pizza for dinner, but fortunately I had the points for it.
Today is starting out gloomy an it rained more overnight. I think our chances for rain will go down as the week goes on. The hummers are very busy again this morning.
Murphy- I wish you could come do some of the stuff on my to-do list or at least motivate me to do it.
GG- Sounds like a fun time with DD's family. It was nice of them to bring food so DS wouldn't have to cook. Hope the soreness is better today.
Cindy- Yay for the arrival of your hummingbirds! Sounds like DS is in a good place as far as A goes.
Cathy- Glad you had electricity at the time of your posting.

Good morning!
Just a quick update, DH is still in hospital, and has been having a really tough time. He had an additional CT scan which still showed no leakage to the resection, thank God. However because of the drainage he is still outputting they believe that the bowel was injured during the original surgery, and cannot be sure because the only way to be certain would to put him under anesthesia again. Unfortunately the risk to put him under at this time is too much of a risk. So the game plan is to keep him with a feeding tube and on IV for nutrition and medication, and the Jtube for drainage and wait for the injury to heal with the proper nutrition and medication.
We are of firm belief that solid food was given to him too soon which is their protocol for his type of surgery. They are of opinion that the solid food helps the healing and a speedier recovery. They said that studies have proven that. IMO, he was a 82 year old man and should have been on liquids for a couple of days before introducing solids. But at this stage of the game, it is a moot point.
On a good note, we saw a small improvement in him when we visited yesterday. Elyse and Isabel face timed him and he was making silly faces to Isabel and she was smiling. It did ease my mind a little. We are just praying for improvement as each day passes.
Murphy~ Sorry to hear about Bud and hoping for a speedy recovery for him. Hearing about their children only makes me feel more blessed knowing how caring and loving my two children are.
Thank you all for the warm wishes and prayers.

Good morning girls. I came into town to check my mail, see what's happening in the world and then will probably beat a retreat back to the cabin. Sometimes not facing reality is a good thing for awhile. I have been doing well with my eating, AF, staying in my points and tracking on paper. I'm reading, crafting, doing chores, and expecting company on Thursday. I'll head home Monday or Tuesday to face a bit of the "world" but hope to be back up in the 2nd week of August or so. I ordered our new flooring, now need to buy a new convection oven of some sort, our 30+ year old one finally conked out. Probably one of the first one's developed. It's just a lot easier for most folks to use up here instead of lighting the gas oven with the match and then can't really regulate the temp very well. The river channel has been busy, will post some photos when I can get them uploaded. Today I watched 2 deer walk across the river, amazing how they know just when it's low enough to do that. Then the Eagle skimmed right over the water looking for a fish dinner. Always something. Went back and read most of the posts, Murphy, sorry to hear about Bud, so glad you got the trip in and the wedding before he had an issue. Glad you can be there for your friend. Liz Prayers again for DH, hope he can get home soon.. Hi to all. Will get to personals next time. GG will be interested to see how you new plan goes. Take care all. Hugs. Jan

Hi girls. My hip feels better today. I guess it pays to listen to your body! DH made a mock apple pie with our zucchini. It is so good! Too many goodies being made with the zucchini! Tomorrow is wi day. We’ll see what happens! Tomorrow is also day 1 with the new plan. I’m not sure how DH will do. He bought a half gallon of ice cream to eat with his pie!
Cindy: It sounds like DS is doing just fine being AF. I’m glad you can talk with him. Our hummers like the cheap feeder too, but I think it’s because it’s the first one we put out.
Amy: I’ve never heard of a freezer that has refrigerator mode!
Murphy: I’m so sorry to hear about Bud! I’m glad they got to go to the wedding! Shaking my head over their kids.
Liz: I’m glad you checked in. I’m glad you are seeing some improvement!
Jan: Good to hear from you! It sounds so peaceful!

Hi friends! I had today off and made good use of it. Lots of little stuff done and a 22 mile bike ride (my legs are sore!) we were going to go to Colorado for vacation, we have now switched! We’re heading to Biloxi, Mississippi and staying in—wait for it—Margaritaville Hotel!! I’m very excited! I’ll try for personals tomorrow. Have a great night! Murphy, shame on those kids. I’m sorry for Carolyn and Bud. Prayers for them and Liz’s DH.

Hi All!
Did some outside stuff and then went to meet a friend at the hospital. Her husband is in ICU...had a tumor removed from esophagus and all that entails. We sat outside and just chatted. She is allowed to stay with him tonight but don't know about once he is moved from ICU.
Seem to be doing a lot of praying, sending out positivity vibes out to the universe and then just escaping into books. Hopefully we will have a few days of sunshine and I can commune with my gardens.
Murphy, prayers for Bud. I have come to terms with family are who you choose and you are a strong family member for Carolyn and Bud.
Amy, thanks for getting us started. I enjoyed the photos on FB....so many beautiful places for you to explore. I've never seen that feature on a freezer but love the idea.
Liz, I'm sorry that DH is having a hard time of it. I guess it is a moot point but it would be nice if the doctors/hospital would listen to the family...we do know our love ones more than they do, let us be part of their care. Hugs!
GG, so glad each day is bringing more healing and more mobility! A mock apple pie made with zucchini sounds delicious!
Carole, I'm exhausted from your 22 mile bike ride! Enjoy your Margaritaville Hotel...are you going with your friends? So many fun things to do in Biloxi!
Cathy, I hope the electricity stayed around for awhile!
Jan, it sounds so peaceful and centering time at the cabin. Glad you could check in.
Don't know if I stayed in one position while reading for too long but my arms are achy. Sprayed them with lidocaine so I can stay awake to watch the game but once that is done...night time pain relief take me away!
Hugs to all, Cindy
