If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board, you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you? Or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? Did you finish the bag of chips? cookies? or just spend the evening grazing? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgment that we have been there, done that and know we need and get the support from this great group of women and men.
Whether you are choosing to be AF or find you can achieve AIM (maximum of one drink per day for women and maximum of two drinks per day for men), please join us if you feel this challenge meets your needs.
The main focus of this board is to be ALCOHOL FREE. The focus of our new challenge is to commit ourselves to success, one day at a time, one hour at a time....success breeds success! Follow a healthy food plan, exercise and stay AF.
As with all of our challenges, everyone is welcomed. For some making the commitment for the entire challenge is the way to go, but day by day is also a way to go. No one is cut from the challenge, and if you don't want to be part of the challenge, you are still welcome to post.

New Challenge!
Labor of Love, July 7 - September 4
The word labor implies a specific task or effort, many times painful or arduous. A labor of love is doing something because you really want to, not because of any monetary reward you might get for it even though it involves hard work.
This challenge is all about a labor of love, reminding yourself to love yourself so it becomes your norm.
How often do we do something for someone else because it makes them happy and in turn makes us happy. But as the saying goes “how can you love someone else if you can’t love yourself”.
There are many ways we don’t show ourselves love. We are harder on ourselves than on anyone else. We go over and over “why did I drink too much” and the ever popular "if I lost weight I would be so much happier”. We are not showing ourselves love by overeating and over drinking, we are doing the opposite. To start forgive yourself, or tell yourself yesterday is done, tomorrow isn’t here, so let’s deal with the present.
So why is it so hard? The mind set "I messed up today so might as well just finish the bottle or finish the bag of chips” has to be changed.
The purpose of this eight week challenge is to discover the reasons behind our drinking and do the hard work it takes to change the behavior. It is a journey of self discovery that you may or may not want to share. This can be painful, this can be bring up old memories, this can be too difficult to tackle. The reasons are so varied. But remember this is a safe place to vent and share and if you are not comfortable sharing here, feel free to use our private FB site (by invitation request).
So does anyone think that alcohol is your friend? Anyone think that the next morning just looks so much better after a night of drinking? Does drinking bring you serenity? So why do we drink?
Some people can have an easy time of giving it up but for most, it just isn't that easy. Many of us start off great and then hit the wall at 10 days. Have you tried to journal your feelings as each day progresses and see what happens when you hit that wall?
"I will let the serene moments wash over me. I will cherish them. They soften me. And the blows of today's tumultuous storm will be lessened."

After we dropped DD off for work, we went to a breakfast place, had yummy pancakes, went to walk, stopped at Publix. When we got home I did about an hour of stuff for work then around noon DH decided to mow the yard, so I helped with the edging, trimming, and using the leaf blower. I made a chicken salad out of the leftover Costco chicken, napped, then got ready to go out to dinner. The Mexican place was pretty good, DS came home with us afterwards for cake and ice cream. We played a national parks board game I bought DH's birthday, then it was time for bed. DS spent the night and is going to work from here.
It's quite foggy this morning, but it's thinning as I'm sitting here. We had a little haze from the wildfires in Oregon yesterday. We're grilling brats tonight. BOT tomorrow!
Liz- Glad they finally found the leak, hope he recovers quickly now. Yay for Grandma time!
GG- Yay for not being hungry on the new plan. Glad you had a nice visit with your friend, hope you enjoyed the bible school program.
Cindy- WTG making to-do lists, photos of gutters. Glad your shoulder is better.

Hi friends! I went to work, worked out and now sitting on my lounge chair in the shade—ready for a nap! I’m going to a friends house tonight, should be fun. I’m going to be AF. Tomorrow my other friend and her family are having a block party. Her 2 sons are in a band—they’ll play and there’s going to be a pizza truck. I’m going to be AF. I’m down 4 pounds and don’t want to mess that up. Amy, happy belated birthday to your DH! Have you ever had the key lime pie from Publix? Oh. My. Gosh. It’s delicious! I went through 2 on our last vacation to FL! (And yes, it was only 1 week!!)
Liz, thank God they found the leak. Continued prayers for all.
Cindy, I’m glad your shoulder feels better.
Gg, I can’t believe it’s been. 11 years already!
Cathy, good luck with the electricity shut off. Good for you keeping a positive attitude!
Murphy, hi! Jan, hi!

Hi girls! 2 days with no snacking! DH is doing his own thing with the meal plan. BUT, he had no beer last night! I told him he’ll probably lose and I’ll gain! I didn’t go to the Bible school program. My head felt funny, and I wouldn’t drive. Today I did my exercises and they were easier! I’m guessing it’s because I was nervous when I went to therapy. I realized today that I can go upstairs without my cane too! Of course, I’m still going up one step and then pulling the other one up. It’s progress though! DS is bringing Birdie to stay with us while they are on vacation. It will be nice to have her here!
Cindy: I’m glad your shoulder is better!
Amy: Sounds like a fun night for DH’s birthday.
Waving hi to all!

Hi All!
I woke up to Ainsley walking on me and settling just below my face, purring away.
Been a hot, sunny day! 100 degrees! I finally pulled out a pair of shorts to wear today. I've been so "lounge wear" oriented that yoga pants have been my normal wear. Need to get my act together and get outside earlier in the day to get stuff accomplished then apply myself to the inside of the house. Talked to one brother, texted my SIL and other brother, and texted my nephew. My nephew will have the PET scan tomorrow and surgery is already scheduled for August 3. It seems that it is more of a question of how extensive the surgery will be. My DB took his son to the ER twice this week because of problems breathing. My brother is handling most of the stuff. DB and DSIL were allowed in to talk with the surgeon but for other appointments it is only one parent allowed.
My friend whose husband had surgery is in the "COVID" ward and she can stay with him through the day. Since neither are vaxxed, they treat him as a COVID patient and essentially my friend is also. I strongly suggested to her that with the surgery it might be safer to get vaxxed before the surgery but they stood on "principle".
Amy, glad that your DS was able to join in on the birthday fun and stay over! National Parks game sounds fun. Have you every played Scattergories? It is amazing how far the haze from the fires can be. Have a wonderful weekend! Hope the low dose of med is helping.
Carole, sounds you have a wonderful evening and weekend planned! Keep those four pounds in mind to help stay AF! Think how good you will feel in the AM Would Lexie consider moving to Florida as a teacher?
GG, Yay for day two and for baby steps for DH...no beer is a success! Sounds like you are making progress! Sometimes I have to do the one step at a time going downstairs...I miss the days I could run up and down steps!
Cathy, hope you were able to accomplish all that you needed to accomplish today!
Liz, hope all is going well!
Murphy, please check in!
Hi Jan!
Going to watch a Harlan Coban mystery on Netfix. And I wonder why I have nightmares at times!
Hugs to all, Cindy
