Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. 63 and a bit muggy to start, with it going to 80, and rain expected later.
Marsha, that is sad about your ex coworker, focusing her life on her parents. Does she have a church she goes to? That is what I have been thinking about lately. I hadn't thought about the virus and EAA. Maybe not so much, as all of that is mostly outside. Thank you! I was a bit surprised, but of course very happy, about the loss. Yes, traveling is the death of diets. Good luck finding anything healthy to eat during that time. I should write down your schedule, as I know I will be on here saying: where is Marsha??? Lol!
Robin, about the weight loss, yes, I agree, about cooking for 1. But your DH is pickier than my DH was, so mostly he would eat whatever I made, back when I was so into loosing weight, I think around 17 and 18. Lol, his mother raised those kids right, to just eat anything that was put in front of you! But it is still easier for it just being me, as I can go 2 or 3 days just having a Bocca Burger, without the bun, so I put the veggie patty on a bed of greens. I have salmon patty's and turkey burgers in the freezer too. Plus for the most part, all summer my appetite has been way down. EAA is huge! People come from all over the world for it. It is all about flying; and airplanes, anything having to do with that. It lasts all week, and every day there are air shows. It is not just something in Wisconsin, it is internationally known. Big money is brought into that area. Oshkosh comes from Chief Oshkosh, who was the Indian leader in that area way back.
Gareth, I agree with your comment about all the laundry! It seemed I was always washing clothes when DH was still alive. I feel like I am shirking my duties now, with laundry at least every other day, sometimes I can even go THREE DAYS before I have to do a load!!! Then it will be a medium load of clothes/towels and then a load of my sheets. I keep waiting to see my water bill go down but so far that hasn't. We too are under an air advisory, because of the wild fires. I wrote down the title of the book you recommended. I think I am ready to start reading again in the evening. Thank you for the tip.
Carol, yes you are so right, about going off those "in" diets, then your weight comes back. When we did Atkins, I had lost 20 some pounds, but got sick, as in pneumonia, so I ended up staying 2 days in the hospital and was off the diet, so once I got home, I said the heck with trying to get back on Atkins right away, and sure enough all of our weight came back. And then I was not in the mood to go back into it, as in my opinion those diets are harder to get into than WW. So by the time I knew I needed to loose that new weight that had come back, I was looking into WW. DH's mother ended up somewhat like the patients in the state hospital you mentioned. She had had so many nervous breakdowns over her years, and back in the day, for that mental health issue, they would do shock therapy, so she had so many shock treatments that by the time she was older, she was basically a vegetable, one who could sit in a wheelchair all day and just cry, cry, cry. It was so sad. You couldn't carry on a conversation with her, she would just start crying, if she wasn't already. There really was no use going to visit her, if you did go, it was just because you felt guilty not going. Sorry you had a bad night the other night, we all sure have our share of that, don't we? I was awake till right after 1 am last night, so with sleeping till 7, I feel ok. I think normally I function good on 6 hours of sleep.
Quiet weekend going here. I was going to do some cleaning, but it looks pretty gloomy out. Is anyone else like me, where if it is sunny out, I am in the mood to clean, if it is gloomy or rainy out, I don't care to do any cleaning?
Have a nice day everyone.

Karen, that is the kind of thing I am talking about, I would be fine just having some kind of burger, although I would buy lite rolls for it, for 2 points, but I know I would never go over points on a normal day I was eating at home. I am also happy with a small piece of Gorton's fish that they make with lemon sauce, with some veggies. Eating a Boca Burger on salad can certainly have you lose a lot faster. I also agree about those fad diets. The one I really don't understand is Keto, except that is really not that different from Atkins. As far as Oshkosh goes, I used to buy my kids Oshkosh overalls, they were pretty popular back then. Now they are owned by the same company as Carters, but I know from D, they are not the thing to wear any more.
It looks very nice out today, and it is supposed to only get up to 77 degrees. Talking about laundry, that is what I have to get done. I save it up and have a big machine, so don't do it very often, and neither of us are believers in using a new towel every time you shower. After all, you are clean, so why should it get anything but wet? The cleaning crews don't do sheets and towels like my cleaning woman used to. They did a pretty good job, but some of the things I really wanted them to do they didn't do, and they did other things that I couldn't care if they did or not. And, they don't really speak English, so I'll see what I will do next time.

Cool in the 60's but nice for our walk this morning. There's still some haze but not as bad as it has been. High of 82º later. We actually got a little rain with an emphasis on little yesterday afternoon into the evening. It was just a very light rain/drizzle.
While getting my coffee started I started listening to Little Disasters. Hope it's as good as the last couple of books I've listened to.
Karen, what does EAA stand for? Great picture of you on IG! Loved your outfit. Is that one of your new ones that you got when you got your dress for the memorial? I was trying to decide if that's a purse on your side but I didn't see a strap.
Robin, I agree with you on bath towels. I only wash ours twice a week.

Karen, who would think there were so many Karen Scotts on Intagram?
It looks like I am not crazy in seeing no air quality warnings, apparently it is only in a few states, of course Iowa and Wisconsin among them.

Robin, I sent you a private message on Facebook, about my IG. Hope that helps. About the laundry, that is really what I do with just myself here now. The washer and dryer in the apartment is nice and big, so I can wait and do laundry with a bigger load, but for just myself that is usually a medium to large load. I am weird about bath towels, I use a new one every time I shower. Of course I use the old ones we have, and save the newer ones for god knows what!!! Lol.
Gareth, EAA stands for Experimental Aircraft Association. I guess the membership is huge. Over the years they have had all kinds of celebrities there, as so many of them have their own planes. It has grown so much over the years that they added a campground for all the people that come for the week. It is pretty neat to see how some of the people that fly in for the week, use their plane to set up as a camp site. The week of the fly in all the hotels around the area get booked up. The EAA is about 60 miles south of GB, but all the hotels here fill up also. Thank you, yes that shirt I had on was part of what I bought at the boutique. I decided to start wearing those clothes when I run places to do errands, otherwise why buy them? The capris I had. Those are getting too big for me now. And yes, that is a purse you see, I looked for the strap, I see the shirt kind of overpowers the strap. I have 2 purses of different colors that are those kind that you can wear, I love those for shopping, then you don't have to put your purse in a cart and worry about it.
A very quiet day around the complex today, seems kind of weird. Quiet in here too, I think soon I will turn the TV on, after I get my 10,000 steps and find a movie to watch on Amazon.

Karen, I will take out my phone and find you to follow soon. I would imagine if celebrities come, John Travolta has been there. He is a big plane collector, and pilots himself a lot. Not sure if you remember, but next weekend we are staying over at the hotel they made out of the old TWA terminal at JFK airport. It is a really great looking building, so should be fun. I also hope we can get into the lounge that they made out of an old Constellation plane.
I have been spending time today doing the extra things that the cleaning people did not do. They did not move all the things I have on my front pay window, and I knew that really needed to be done. It's about a 10 foot wide window, with a shelf in the bay that I have all kinds of collectibles and picture frames on. Soon once I am sure it is all completely dry I will put it back together. Also cleaned some walls and doors, my magic erasers are really getting a work out. Of course when I get close, I see how much more there is that can be done. I have light wood mini-blinds in that bay window, and there are 5 panels. I am not exactly sure how they get more than dusty, but they do, and really need to be wiped down. In my next life, I am going to get rid of all my stuff and my collections. I have a glass fronted library in my living room also, and I know it can be emptied out and dusted well also, but I am not quite up to that. Not sure how much I would want to pay someone to do it.

A guy we know went up to Oshkosh. He's really into planes.
Earlier in the week someone posted about having old towels. I don't who remember it was. Anyway, animal shelters can use old towels and blankets, too.
It doesn't take long for dust to get on things again.
DDIL works is a social worker at the state hospital. I think she works more with the adults who have mental problems. I never met DH's grandmother on his mom's side. She was in a home because of senility or dementia and the last time he saw her she didn't know him. It made him really sad so he never visited when we were at his parents.
This was supposed to be the hottest day so far. It is 99, feels like 104 and we are under a heat advisory.
I finished Malibu Rising. I enjoyed it.

The big difference between my friend's DD and someone with dimentia is that she never had a life where she knew anything. Unless you know someone like this, it is very hard to understand. We have been friends since our kids were babies, so over 30 years. When she was only a few months old, something happened where there was a problem with an enzyme in the brain. When the kids were little, it was different because we all had kids we had to watch out for. I can't really think about what I would do if I had a child like this, but I guess you just do what you have to do. I wonder whether she really know who her parents are. She lives in a group home, and has been there for a number of years already, but she was at home with them for a long time.

Good morning. A clear sky this morning, with a temp of 59, we are getting winds from the north, not the west, like yesterday, which you could actually see the smoke in the air, it was very strange. High of a beautiful 73, then warming up starting tomorrow.
Robin, when we were discussing IG yesterday, I tried to find you, as I was just going to request you, but lol, you were just as hard to find as I am. I had to give up. I sent you the screenshot so you would be able to find me under my username. I hate how some sites, (IG included) won't let you pick your own account name, as I do not know what those numbers at the end of my name mean. Once you go on my private page, you can look at the pics I have posted, and enlarge them so you should be able to see that top I had on in that picture Gareth was talking about. Usually I remember the celeb's that are shown at EAA, but for some reason I do not remember John Travolta. As you said tho, I too think he would have come, what with him having his own plane. Yes, I did forget about your weekend coming up, it sounds so fun!!! Try to take some pictures, and post them on FB. Your cleaning sounds like all the extra things I had at the old house, and dreaded cleaning. A lot of that I was able to donate to St Vincent DePaul, when we moved, so that now I don't have that much to dust/clean. Of course dusting is the thing I hate most about house cleaning. What a sad life for that DD of your friend. I can not imagine being the parent of such a child.
Carol, that does not surprise me that you know someone that comes up to EAA. Most all of the people that come, come every year. They make that their yearly vacation. It has gotten so big, it really brings in millions and millions of dollars for the local economy. I think I mentioned the old towels. To me they look old, but they are still usable, so I will keep them. With DH mom, she got so bad, with her illness, she did not know anyone, so we rarely went to visit her, but then you felt guilty about that. But when you did go, you just wanted to leave right away. At least DH was able to get there and be with her, before she died. 99, oh boy! When I have one of the air conditioners on, I love hearing it shut down for awhile. With those kind of temps, I would never hear the machine turn off for awhile! Be careful going outside!
Hi to Anngie, Pinky, and Marsha.
Yesterday afternoon, after I finished walking 10,000 steps, I watched a biography on Amazon Prime that centered on Princess Di's Butler. OMG! It was so sad, he said he was her butler for 10 years, and he was able to be with her, at the morgue, before she was moved from France to Great Britain, and he whispered to her that she was supposed to take him with her, to protect her. Just think if he had been with her, she might still be alive today.
I have no excuse to pick a trail around here and walk in the great outdoors, with it going to be a beautiful day for it.
Have a wonderful Sunday everyone!

Karen, that's strange that IG wouldn't let you pick your own name. I did mine though it's not as original as most of my friends. I do see the strap of your purse now in that picture when I went back and looked closer. That's the style of purse I carry now. I never thought I could downsize but with covid I didn't want to put my purse in a shopping cart. Now I never want to go back to carrying a larger purse. I found out I really didn't need to carry all the stuff around that I had been before.
Someone asked a friend of ours whose wife was in a care center with dementia why he went to see her every day when she no longer knew him. His reply was I know her. I was really touched by his reply. They'd been married for well over 50 years and were very devoted to each other before the dementia. He cared for at home until he was no longer able to.
Only 62º when we walked early. 81º predicted later. It's staying dark later in the mornings now. We could really tell a difference from a week ago. We get up and walk at 5:30 on Sundays since we go to early Church speaking of which gotta get going....

Karen, I did find you, not sure if you noticed. I think when they add it is just because there are a lot of others with your exact name. I guess mine is not so common, although I do know there is someone with my name who is married to someone with my DH's name and lives in Toronto. Now people with my first initial and last name are pretty common. I get emails all the time meant for them because somehow people manage to take email addresses down wrong. Because I was such an early gmail user, I could get my first initial last name, and they couldn't. Recently I even got something from a car dealer that had the person's date of birth on it. Very stupid, because if I was unscrupulous I would be able to take his identity rather easily I would think.
Gareth, thankfully I don't get up early enough to notice the later sunrise.
I always make a 2nd cup of coffee on weekends, so will do that now, and then go drop off the sample carpet at Home Depot and arrange for the measuring. They did have just the kind I wanted, I didn't want anything plus because of the stairs, and nothing too elaborate, but not a solid. Their deal of no installation cost is too good to pass up. It's all the steps that make a difference. Now DH mentioned that we could put the flooring for our den over the tile that is in the hallway also, which I was not even thinking about. Of course then we have to pull out our washer and dryer, and I am not sure how we will manage that. Then I will do some food shopping.

DS said the residents who are adults in body but children in mind are hard to deal with. Many of them have been there all their lives.
I think back when DH didn't go see his grandmother was because he was so young, late teens and then in his early 20s, and he didn't know how to take her behavior. Now this he is older and more mature, he would have gone to see her. In fact, the last years of his mother's life she didn't know him, but he still visited and was with her when she died.
DDIl has surgery on Friday. DH is going to go so he can be with them, especially with DS during the surgery because he is nervous about it. DDIL is ready for it and to get answers to questions. I can't go because I have to go back to the doctor doing my cataract surgery and then I have my annual check with my neurologist about my migraines.
