Hello Ruth - That Drop in the Pond pattern is beautiful, the colors you've chosen sounds like they will be lovely in this pattern. Ginny - Those Christmas ornaments sound like they will be beautiful too. Phyl and Sue - Hope you are well. It was still pretty nice here today, weather-wise - a bit warmer but not humid. I didn't open the windows today though. I finished some more hand quilting last night and hope to get the rest done over the next few days. This morning I made the latest block in Pat Sloan's quilt along, so I'm caught up with that. I'm hoping to pull fabrics for bindings tomorrow and figure out what I need for those, so I can hopefully get them made over the weekend. Then I'll have next week to attach them to the quilts. Take care everyone!

Ruth, the drop in the Pond afghan (who comes up with these names??) is striking - so your final colors will be white, aqua and turquoise?? Sounds so very pretty….you do have a good eye for color- you need to gain confidence in your color choices. Its going to be a pretty afghan and I hope the instructions are easy enough to follow.
CJ- good weather!! What a blessing….I am happy for you that the humidity is not back. What kind of design are you doing in your hand quilting? Bet that looks so pretty on that red ware quilt.
I love free summer concerts- and attended a really good one with some friends this evening. the weather was pretty good and it was a pleasant evening. During the day I did some major cleaning….knowing that the school year is only a few weeks away, I thought I had better get some of that done. Also harvested catnip- and will cut more tomorrow. Its a banner year for catnip. The heat and humidity is coming back so I closed the windows….and the air conditioner is on now.
Last weekend, after having been out in the front garden for less than 5 minutes….well, I brought in an unwanted guest a tick. (And yes, it was on me long enough to draw blood). I called the doctor who called in a prescription for doxycycline. I know where I live, it’s assumed that all ticks are carrying Lyme, so my doctors action was prudent. Not happy about it, but am glad that I am getting treatment.
Have a good night all Ginny

Thank you CJ. I wish I had the color confidence that you have. I've never seen one of your pictures where the colors didn't work together well. I'm glad the humidity was low there. That sure makes it easier to be able to tolerate the heat.
Ginny, I'm sorry to hear that you got a tick but I'm glad your doctor is one you can call and he has his staff or he, himself contact the pharmacy for the prescription. I need to get to some major house cleaning myself even though I don't have school restarting to be concerned about. Yes those will be the colors for this afgan. The woman who's video I'm following also has a free pdf. Unfortunately the pdf does not match her video. I'm ignoring the pdf though and will just follow her on the video and write down what she does so that next time I can just follow my own written copy of the pattern
Ginny, I didn't even know it was to be hot today until you mentioned it this morning and you were right. I think it got close to 100. Maybe not officially but here at my house my thermometers agree that it was there.
See you all tomorrow

This afgan is made in sections...center, first side, second side then top then bottom then border around. So I have the center part all done. I added one more chevron section at each end than the pattern called for as the center determines the length of the blanket. Now I can start the first side but first I'm going to weave in the hundreds of ends so that I don't end up with thousands of ends when I'm done. Well, of course I'm exaggerating just a little but there sure are a lot of ends already. I read over the pattern and I think that even if I take time out to do things in both the house and yard and take dh to get his license renewed next week that I should have this done before next week is over.By the 15th.
I hope you are all having a good day and Phyl, I hope you're feeling better.

Hello Everyone Ginny - I'm sorry to hear about the tick and I hope the medication will prevent any problems. I'm glad you have those free concerts to go to and that you enjoyed this most recent one Ruth - I hope that you can get your afghan done by the 15th. I sure wish you could take a picture to show us when it is done, I'm sure it will be beautiful. Phyl - Hope you are feeling well. Sue - Hope everything is going well with the help for your DH. The hot weather has made it here, but it's not too bad. I do have the AC on and I stay in most of the time. I didn't get back to my redwork hand quilting piece yesterday, but hope to this weekend. It's all straight line quilting, no design. I did get all the fabrics picked for the bindings of the quilts I quilted and I pressed them and them and then cut the 2.5 inch strips. I hope to get the strips sewn together and made into binding tomorrow and then maybe I can start attaching some of them to the quilts on Sunday. Hope all of you are doing well and your weather isn't too bad. Take care and have a great weekend!

OK, so my secret is this….I do have approximate locations for you folks in my phone so sometimes I can speak with intelligence about your weather and also know what you are facing. So I am no genie Ruth. Just a caring friend. Ruth are you liking how the colors are working out in the afghan? I am already confused over how it is constructed…but I know its going to come out great!!! Yes, i hope you can finish it by the 15th- sounds like that will be possible at the pace you are crocheting at. CJ-the name of the band I saw is Still Surfin and they are based out of Washington DC and travel along the east coast. As a matter of fact, I will import a youtube link for a promotional video. youtu.be/6Z6uCRu60_8. If you like Beach Boys, this band is excellent. As they travel up and down the coast, perhaps you could catch them. Of course if you dislike that music…well, its a bad idea. You are making great progress on the bindings and getting them ready to attach. I am sure your hand quilting is stunning and looks great on the red ware quilt. Funny today my friend was over (she is just learning to quilt) and I suggested for a quilt she will probably make, that she do straight line quilting and that it would look great (by machine). Yeah its hot here and a bit humid. With the antibiotic I am on, I am sort of stuck inside and cannot go in the sun. Good news, my missouri order shipped and will be here in a few days. I called Joanns to ask when the next service date is for my machine, and the person who organizes that is retiring….so I can take my machine to Joanns but they will ship it out to Michigan for servicing. Total time out will be about 2 weeks. Yuck - but its authorized service and I want to be compliant with the warrantee. Either going to crochet tonight or embroider. Phyl, have you gotten downstairs to your sewing cave??? Sue, how are you and Dh doing??? Take care Ginny

I love the Beach Boys music. I especially like the song Sloop JohnB for some reason. Guess they won't be coming here.
I know that you did mention once that you had my location in your phone for weather. I wonder what it said for today. On our local weather forecast on local channel on tv it said today would be very windy. So all today not even a breeze. They also said sunny which is always a good guess here because most days are sunny, but although there were sunny periods there was more overcast and it actually rained which they didn't mention at all.
I do like the way these colors are working. To kind of explain the blanket ,you start with a granny square. Then you turn the square to that you're working over the points at each end and you put two or more granny stitch chevron shaped sections. The rest, as I mentioned earlier is done granny stitch rows on each side of that long piece you just made, then same of the ends and then border. every section is done in 7 rows.So the initial granny is 7 rounds. Each chevron is 7 rows, sides are 7 rows, etc. I undoubtedly will have to make more than 7 rows on the sides since I'm making it longer I'll need to make it wider too and since it will already be long enough with the extra chevrons I'll probably do less than 7 rows at each end before the border.
Ginny, your experience with your new machine sounds a little bit similar to mine. I bought it at a sewing center here that had been here for years and years just because I could then take it to them for service. They closed about a year after I bought it.At least you're going to be able to get authorized service. Maybe you could buy a cheaper machine to use while yours is away.

OK Ruth!! Todays science fiction report says the following…its 70 degrees, daytime high was supposed to be 88 and the low tonight is 57. You have a threat of thunderstorms….and tomorrow is supposedl to be 82 and sunny.
Me too!!! I love Sloop John B! Hope you can post pics of this afghan when you are done. Sounds so pretty. And Joanns said it would be a 2 week turn around for my machine. Not so bad. Think I will take my machine up for servicing next week. As I am waiting for my fabric from Missouri and the first start of those ornaments is ironing, then getting it serviced now is a good idea.. Yes, I could also drive my machine to NJ and see if I can get authorized service at the Joanns there.

Quiet here today….Dd was here for several hours today and I did some housework earlier. No time just yet for crafting that is for sure. I did get some crocheting in last night and hope to get back to crocheting later on this evening. Its a bit warm here today but do not think it got as warm as it was supposed to.
I will check back in later and see who has visited.

Hello Ginny - Thanks for sharing the video link, they are good and sound just like the Beach Boys Hope you enjoyed your visit with your DD and that you can do some crafting later. Ruth - I'm glad the afghan is working out, and I'm sure the colors are beautiful together. We had rain here today, which we needed since I've seen some of the bushes/shrubs looking very dry. And the weather is a lot cooler, which is nice too. I finished making the bindings for 11 quilts this morning and hope to start attaching some of them tomorrow. There are 2 pieces that I'll want to hand sew the backing on the back, but I think the rest I'll machine quilt to finish. I'm almost finished the hand quilting on my Redwork piece, and should finish today. Then I'll can get the binding made for it and I'll be hand sewing the binding to finish on this one. Hope you are all having a good day, some nice weather, and get to do some crafting. Take care!

CJ,wow, bindings for 11 quilts!!! you are amazing! And you also seem pretty fast on the hand quilting. That would take me forever. I'm looking forward to seeing the ones you post pictures for here. I'm glad you got some rain and that it's cooler. I know you prefer cooler weather. Today was perfect here...not too wam, not too cool
Ginny, I know you enjoyed your visit with your dd. I'm guessing it was the one with the youngest baby. It's great that whichever dd comes over there are babies to enjoy and with the one dd also children that are older.
Since it was cooler I did pull some weeds today. I also did a little of the chores we all have and then started crocheting. I'm on the easiest part of the afgan now. The sides, top and border are all just like doing a granny ripple so it's easy and fast. I may be done sooner than I thought. The next blanket is pretty easy too so it sholdn't take long to make it then I'll go on to the spiderweb blankets.Last night after I finished all the center of the afgan I put it aside and worked on a potholder I'm making for dgd and dgs' new apartment. They both are good cooks and will need potholders.
Have a great evening everyone

Good morning,
CJ- glad you enjoyed the video clip- yes the band does an awesome job of sounding pretty darned close to The Beach Boys sound. I am glad you got some rain too- that tends to cool things down for at least a little bit for sure. You are surely becoming a binding wizard!! (Ok seriously, I want to know how many quilts you have made in your life….that you have made bindings for 11 quilts is amazing to me, and I am sure you are very good at it now. Did you ever get the binding on that one quilt that was not square (was it a hexagon?). Those wonder clips would work beautifully to help set those irregular corners for sure. You are making great progress quilting the red ware quilt. I thought of that quilt this am and you as MSQ’s Sally deal is red and black fabrics…not true red ware but it reminded me of it.
Ruth, glad you are making such great progress on the afghans…are these intended to be sent to DGS and DGD soon (as in when they move out?) You make those lovely waffle weave potholders are those the potholders that you will be making for them? When you are done with your weeds, please feel free to come visit my house and pull some weeds here. Ha ha ha
Got a few rows done on the afghan last night.I really like the pattern as the 2 rows are different (which helps alleviate boredom) and it goes pretty quickly. (Ruth must be laughing as she takes on difficult projects). I am enjoying crocheting for a change- that is for sure.
Phyl- how are you feeling?
Sue- hope you can check in to say hi soon! Ginny

Hello - Hope everyone is doing well and having nice weather. It's warm and sunny here today. Ruth - I'm glad you were able to do some work in the yard and that your projects are going well. The hand quilting I did was a big stitch, so it didn't take that long. I always think of you as being so fast with your projects Ginny - I'm glad to hear you are enjoying your crochet project, it is nice to do something different from time to time, isn't it? I keep a list of the quilts I finish (when they are tops, not completely done). I have 140 quilt projects listed and there are probably a few other small things I did that I didn't put on the list. On my list of completely finished items I'll have 66 once I finish these bindings. Some of my pending projects are those I want to hand quilt and of course there is a group of tops I'd love to get longarm quilted. I was able to get all the bindings attached today. That octagon one was really tough to attach the binding on. The sides were just small, so I couldn't even join the binding strips I had to lay one strip over the other and just attach them like that. I'd hope to machine finish this one, but I think I'm going to have to hand finish it so I can manipulate the corners. I also finished the redwork piece, so I have 12 pieces to finish off. I'm going to hand finish 4 of them and finish the other 8 by machine. I have "stuff" going on the next few days, so I might not get back to them until later in the week. I sure give quilters who make large quilts a lot of credit. I think the largest one I did today was 41x54 and it's tough moving that quilt around to attach the binding. Of course it helps if you have a nice set up in your sewing room with a large table off the side of your machine - I don't have that Take care everyone!

Ginny, it sounds like you're having a good day. I'm glad you were able to get some rows done on the crochet afgan. Your dd and dsil are going to love it. Did you get a walk in today? You seem to be very faithful in getting the walking done and I admire you for that. I wish I could say that I do it too but I don't. I'm not sure when the grandchildren will be moving. They have to find a place and ds tells me that real estate prices have gone way up there so I imagine rentals are pricier also. I really should be concentrating on birthday gifts probably but I've wanted to do this Drop in the Pond for a long time now. Of course there are a lot of things I've wanted to try. I think we all have a list in our heads. As to the weeds, well I'll never be done. This place is like weed Heaven. They grow like crazy
CJ, I still say you are to be admired for all you get done. And I agree about those who make the really large quilts. How in the world do they handle something so large. As you said, you would need a large table right next to your sewing machine.Still the number of quilts you've made is fantastic. They might not be king size but they are still a huge accomplishment.
No I'm not a fast crocheter at all. Well sometimes I can crochet fast but most of the time I just plod along but sometimes I work on it all day long so that's why it seems like I'm fast.
I'm pretty disappointed today because I went in my craft room to get another skein of each of the colors I'm using and found that I don't have another aqua! I thought I have at least three of every color of this yarn but for some reason I have only the one I'm using right now.I guess I should have checked that before I started. I just hope that I can get enough done on the other side so that it will match the first side, then I'll improvise but at least it will be symetrical
I think that tomorrow we'll be going out to finally get dh's license renewed. They send you the notice and the form 120 days before your license expires. HIs expires this coming Friday. I did the same with mine...all due to this pandemic. (of course if there had been no pandemic we still probably would have procrastinated but it makes a good excuse) After the license office we'll stop at the grocery store if dh is still up to it.
