Welcome to Alcohol Free Is What We Want To Be! .. We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board, you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

NEW CHALLENGE!
WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO BE FOR HALLOWEEN? September 5 - October 31
CIRCLE September 5 on the calendar. Now CIRCLE October 31 on the calendar. This is your 8 week AF Halloween challenge. For this challenge to work you have to commit and take it seriously. Respect the importance of the challenge. RESPECT YOURSELF by focusing on your health and taking care of yourself. Organize yourself healthy, organize your grocery shopping, ORGANIZE!
Do you fancy yourself a witch? a ghoul? a ?? How about visualizing yourself as a happier, healthier person? Envision your costume…except it won’t be a costume, it will be you!
Being AF isn't easy, no one said it would be. Are you in an emotional war when it comes to alcohol? Declare a truce and determine that it isn't helping you, in fact it may be causing you problems. Can you decide to be alcohol free for the challenge? Can you determine your detours, not necessarily to take them but to plan so it isn't a free fall into AIE? Don't give yourself an excuse that oh my day has been lousy so I will have a drink or I'm bored so I will drink to get through the evening. During the challenge the primary goal is to abstain from alcohol. If you decide to have a drink, don’t beat yourself up….this is a hard journey! Keep in mind you don’t have to finish the bottle, you don’t have to finish a bag of cookies…you have control…now you have to believe it!
Some of us can’t have “spirits” in the house…that can take a whole lot of self control. There are lots of tricks and ways to avoid A but essentially many of us bring an OCD attitude…..usually defined as obsessive compulsive disorder... to stay AF but for this challenge OCD means….Ongoing Celebration of Discovery! We can discover and celebrate ourselves!! And we don't need alcohol or excessive food to do it!
So what are you going to be for Halloween? A much healthier, happier person sounds like a great plan and it won't be a costume! Great success!

The beautiful weather continues here. DH & I walked at the lake. Apparently they drain this lake in the winter and looks the process has started. We drove by it last year when it was drained, but it will be interesting to see it up close, hopefully it doesn't stink too much.
I can see beautiful pink clouds over the neighbors house across the street, looks like another beautiful day. Most of our hummers have gone, I watched one yesterday feed a little, perch in the tree, then repeat.
Jan- Glad you had a nice day with your cousin, hope the surgery goes well. Glad your weather is nice and the bugs have gone, makes working outside so much better.
Murphy- Glad Walmart had everything on your order. Hope you are able to speak with a manager soon. Have fun switching out your fall and summer clothes.
GG- Hope it was a BOT day, WTG not going out to get junk. Loved the post with you on the mower.
Cathy- WTG staying OP, tracking. Our indoor cats are fine, they enjoy lying in the sunshine that comes through the windows on these sunny days.
Cindy- Hugs!

September 26: 199.4 October 3: October 10: October 17: October 24: October 31/Final weigh in: Happy Halloween! and congrats to your new self! Good morning. Looks like a beautiful day, see what kind of trouble I can get into Yesterday my FB seemed to say I walked way longer than I thought I did, see what happens today. Went to the library to look for Annie Grace's book but it was out. Checked out the Sober Revolution to see what it's all about. Just want to keep some Why fresh in my mind and not get lazy. I think my WW finally cancelled today as I can't track, but I want to wait til they have a 1/2 price deal or something to rejoin. I will keep tracking on paper and see how it goes. Feels weird not being able to put in my day. Got groceries stocked up, smoked a whole chicken yesterday afternoon and will pull it apart today for meals, trying to take less trips to the store again both to save some $$, Stay out of the tempting junk food, and avoid the Covid. Where DH put the new soil to fill in all along the driveway now needs some plants or ?? to soften the edge. We may go to the nursery today to see what's on sale. All our walmarts etc are done with plants now. Not much other news. Attempting to knit two at a time socks, a good lesson in frustration and we'll see if I continue. Hope you all have a great day. Jan Cathy HOpe your kids can work out some kind of visit this fall or next year. yay for DD sending some things to hold you over. Slow and steady wins the race I guess. GG Yay for not buying junk food and sticking to your menu instead of getting the pizza. Glad you could help with the mowing, looks fun. How much longer will you get PT? Amy Is there a reason they drain the lake? Is it because it has plumbing/fountain in it that could freeze? Guess I think of Georgia as a warm place in winter. Yay for new points and a new week. When in October is DS supposed to come? Will you go to Indiana for Thanksgiving this year? Waving hi. Check in later.

Good morning all! It's been a productive morning so far. Got all the bedding washed and changed. I've got some personal paperwork I want to update today so that's my big project.
Amy - I wondered about why they drain the lake as well. I know around here, they drastically lower the river levels with the dams to cut back on insects as well as vegetation but I don't know if they drain any of the smaller ponds.
Jan - smoked chicken sounds yummy! I hope I didn't offend you yesterday with any of my post about the mask issue. I know as a former teacher you would be more than well aware of the challenges teachers and students face. I was just personally surprised to learn more about why so many were opposed to the masks in schools. Forgive me if I came across as anything else.
Cathy - yay for DD sending some new undies! Belts don't work too well on underwear! LOL
GG - yay for staying out of the junk food! We will stand strong together! LOL at the picture of you on the lawn mower! You looked tiny and it looked HUGE! LOL
Better get to work on my paper work! Hope everyone has a great day! Murphy

Murphy No offense taken, and I couldn't imagine teaching with a mask, but it's all just crazy. Not sure why it's such an "us against them" mentality. Seems if it's the will of 4 families, they should chose home school if they're worried, that can still be a choice I'd think. Also, hope you get in touch with someone at Walmart, maybe they could add to your purchases with a donation or maybe a 10% discount, not like they can't afford it!! GL with your paperwork.

All through with my paperwork. May sound a tad morbid but I wanted to update my will and final wishes before the trip "just in case"! My will is very simple having no spouse or children so I was able to find a free template on-line. I do need to get witnesses to sign with me. I'll either get Carolyn and Bud or someone at church to be my witnesses. I've been procrastinating on getting all of that done so I'm glad it's out of the way!
Jan - I totally agree about the home schooling! I haven't heard anything about why they didn't chose that option. There was already a "voluntary mask" policy in place but these parents didn't feel that was adequate to protect immune compromised children. I don't know if one of their children was immune compromised or not. I heard that there were some parent protests outside of some of the schools and while it doesn't seem that there was any violence, that has to be terrifying for the children!
The weather is sunny and very warm but I had a craving for chicken and dumplings today. Usually I make it in the crock pot but I'm just making a little pot. Just going to chill the rest of the afternoon. Murphy

Where oh where did my last post go? Won't finish the song for you but I must press delete instead of post??? Duh
So I went out to the detached garage and there is water on the floor near the free standing sink...look about and the pipe is broken...and the other pipe leading to the outside has come detached. It had to happen last night or today...no rhyme or reason. DS wants to give it a shot in fixing it.
Today the water department decided to replace the meter box (an inground box) but by doing that they took away the cover for the RPZ meter. Didn't realize that until I saw a bright blue cover in the yard....so have ordered a new box for the RPZ meter. But what the heck? Why not decide to do both meters? AARGH!
Amy, so glad you are having beautiful weather. We aren't doing too badly. My first thought about the lake being drained was, maybe you will find the stones that the "kids/Karens" might have thrown into the lake! I could also see the worry if the lake froze, it might not be a deep freeze but inviting non the less. Okay, my mind goes in different directions. I had butterflies at the hummingbird feeder today but no hummingbirds.
Jan, hope you got into fun trouble today! Look forward to a review of Sober Reflection. There is a book by Martha Grimes called "Double Double: A Memoir of Alcoholism with Ken Grimes" (Scribner, 2016). Both mother and son were alcoholics. The book explains the different ways Grimes and her son, Ken Grimes, recognized and overcame their addictions. Might see if the library has it. Going to try one last place to see if there are any plants then get going planting bulbs.
Murphy, don't forget coffee! I'm going to drive you crazy offering suggestions! When will your college friends be joining you? I really need to redo my will. It covered all bases but figure with changes in laws, needs updates. DH always bought "extra flight insurance" when he traveled overseas...plus his American Express card gave insurance as well. Figured buying it was our good luck charm.
GG, loved the photo of you on the mower! Be careful, mowing may become your job! How did line dancing go?
Carole, how are you doing?
Cathy, glad that DD will be sending you a package. Keep on doing what you are doing! It will all come together. Will you be able to see your friends in the near future?
Liz, hope you are getting some me time! Hugs
Hugs to all, Cindy
