This is a thread devoted to those in their 50s, 60s, 70s and beyond who don't have children or grandchildren but live rich, full lives. Please feel free to join our stroll thru life and come back often for support and to share. ********** Rain again today. 61° right now but temperatures will be dropping to the 50s. Nothing but a workout planned. I have cooked the past week. Iggy’s turn. I will be requesting tabbouleh, hummus and falafel. 😋
Linda, good luck to Bob.
Liz, have a great week. I hope you are feeling better.
Kathy, does Corinne Crabtree have a book or is it a subscription only service?
Karen, are you recovered or still tired? That is a rip off on the NBC channel.
Becky, hope you and Kenneth are well.
Denise, how are you?

Chele, we're getting some rain again too, but it's getting warmer and I saw a 90 in our forecast this week. Next weekend is supposed to be a little cooler. Nice to have a chef in the house! You deserve a break from the cooking. Corinne has a free podcast and a free course. A couple of times a year, she does free challenges with 3 or 4 days of live webinars. Warning: she cusses. A lot! Linda, hope all goes well with Bob. Hope everyone has a good day.

Thanks for the start, Chele. Was your DB affected by the bomb cyclone on the west coast? That sounds really scary. Sorry your rain continues. Good day for you to just do a workout and chill. LOL on Iggy and the apple in the curry. Was it perhaps a different variety of apple than what you have used in the past (30 years)? Do you make your falafel from chickpeas or fava beans? Is it fried? I have been planning to cook some in the air fryer, but haven't gotten any farther than downloading a recipe. How do you serve it? Enjoy! I still have a little winterizing to be done, including removing the rest of the tomato plants when they stop producing. I also need to do a lot of mulching, but that will be for another day. I still have the irrigation system set up to the straw bales and containers, so that needs to be undone as well. I was hoping I would be able to use the straw bales again next year, but they are too degraded to even consider that. I'm a little sore after working outside yesterday afternoon, but not too tired. I even got all the house cleaning done and am halfway done with laundry. Workout is also done.
Kathy, the Vols got close a couple of times but just couldn't keep up the intensity at the end. With Alabama getting defeated the previous week, I thought it would be a blowout from the git-go. I hope your Noles can pull off 3 more wins. That should get the fans off Norvell's case for a little while. The NBC thing is extremely frustrating when I want to watch something live. Fortunately, the local station has a news app on Roku, and IMO they have the more accurate weather in the area, so I'm glad that is available. Yes, I thought $5 was pretty lame, but that was the only offer I got. Did your rain move out? We are expecting some to hit shortly. I haven't paid attention to whether it's coming from yours or Chele's direction or from the west.
Yes, Linda, Dish does seem to be having some customer retention issues, and that was going on before this current situation. They are demanding $1 BILLION from the parent company of our network, which seems quite exorbitant to me, even with 64 stations under their control. Do you usually have J.Jill items on such a long backorder? It seems strange for them not to have things in stock or able to get within a few days. With all the things you did yesterday, you may well have walked 3 miles yesterday. You probably do a lot more than you think pretty much every day. Good job having just a little chocolate for dessert. How was the soup? What makes it German?
Are you back at work today, Liz? How was the weekend?
Dale cleaned the windows on the deck yesterday afternoon and a dove has already run into one of them and left a deposit of guano, so I'll have to go out and clean that off before the rain begins. I lost a lb. Hopefully something is working when the IBS isn't causing inflammation. Looking for ways to heal the digestive system and thinking about doing a 3-day water fast while Dale is gone to a ultra trail run in NC this weekend. He leaves on Friday. Arya and I haven't discussed plans for the weekend. Hopefully there will be no mice or errant smoke alarms.

Congrats on lost pound. I have not weighed..been a little stressed with grumpiness around here and ate cheese and chocolate. Do not want to get discouraged. DH has now lost 13 in four weeks and doesn't understand why I think he has been overly restrictive. We plan a nice restaurant the evening after he sees dr for check up. I just carry on with doing my best but It's so slow.
I was just getting coffee at 8:30 to get awake to leave at 9:30 for Bob's little laser thing for his eye when they called and wanted us there ASAP because of cancellation in a longer procedure. These take about ten minutes once the drops dilate the eye. So we were in the car in 15 minutes! A few other people came in after us for the same quick thing. We were hime by 10:30. A woman had her friend with her as driver after cataract surgery and they talked loudly nonstop. It got weird when the friend started discussing lack of interest in sex with the boyfriend ..widow for a year before. Glad to escape them.
having coffee with dog who is confused that we dashed out.

Karen, we just got a little squall from what they're calling tropical moisture. I'm not sure if the rain in our areas is from the same system or not. Your line of rain looks separate from mine, but they look like they're moving with the same circulation on the weather map. I'm not sure I even want to know what a bomb cyclone is, but I'm glad we don't have those here! TN did really well until the 4th quarter, so at least they were able to keep it interesting. I see a lot of improvement in FSU, so I hope Novell can get enough wins to quiet the fans. Oh no on the dove! The birds around here seem to think it's spring and have been chirping away. Congrats on the loss!
Linda, glad Bob got the procedure over with so quickly. Nothing like hearing people discuss private things in public! 13 lbs in 4 weeks is a lot. It's better to lose slowly, but it does take a lot of patience and persistence.

Linda, I am glad you got it over with quickly this morning. I hate when people get too personal in public with their conversations. 13 lbs in 4 weeks is very fast. It’s encouraging now but when it slows down it can be discouraging. I hope Bob doesn’t have a lot to lose. Kathy, thanks for the links. I will have to check them out. Not nice to have a chef who doesn’t care if you want to lose weight. 😁 I worked with truckers and freight people before everything got so PC. I am used to colorful language. 90°! This late in the year? I would melt. A bomb cyclone has to do with latitude and quickly dropping pressure but there are heavy rains and strong winds. Karen, congrats on the loss! Let’s see. A weekend with Arya. She will want a walkie, breakfast, a snoozle on the couch, a walkie, a snack, maybe a little playtime, a walkie, snoozles, then dinner. 😁 You got a lot done today, while I have been a lazy bum. DB said they got a lot of wind but no damage. Iggy uses a mix he gets from the Middle Eastern deli for the falafel but it is chick pea based. We bake it in the oven these days. We put the falafel in a pita with chopped tomatoes, onions, cucumber, and tarator (tahini sauce). You can skip the pita and just serve with the veggies and sprinkle with Tarator. I have used a variety of apples over the years. He just failed to mention he did not care for apples with curry. Have a good evening, folks.

I worked in a big high school …most people's ears would burn listening to kids in the hall. After aw while it does not even register unless it is noticeable in class. Used to laugh when they worried about bad language in books.
Got Bob's eye thing done in an hour and called in early!yea! Leftovers for supper. Yea!
Pea soup was good, incredibly thick. I can see why it kept Dutch and German sailors going day after day.
Bob is 169..At 166 years ago his heart doctor said to stop losing.I expect three to four back fast when he hits carbs again.

Kathy, I just saw a commercial for the Doctor Who World Premiere on Sunday. Is it really going to be 2:25 in the afternoon? I saw conflicting things on the internet about the start time. I also saw it's supposed to be Jodie Whitaker's last full season. And Russell T. Davies is coming back next series as well.
Congrats to Bob on the loss, Linda. That is a lot of wt so is it possible a lot of it was water? Yep, the carbs will put it back on for him. Hope he won't be too disappointed. Was the soup even better the second day?
Chele, thanks for the explanation of the bomb cyclone. I had never heard of one before and my first thought was "thanks, global warming." Does the Middle Eastern deli make their own falafel mix? We used to get the Near East brand, but I think I have seen one at TJ's. The Far East one had something like wheat germ as the first ingredient and we weren't really crazy about it. Do you get pitas at the Middle Eastern deli? We need to find some that are better than the grocery store ones. So is tarator used instead of tzatziki in Lebanon? Thanks for the recipe link. I think I will make that instead when I make falafel. Wonder if there is a pita dough recipe for the Zo.

Chele, I'm hoping it doesn't make it up to 90. I saw some upper 50s for the lows in this weekend's forecast, so there might be some cooler temps coming. LOL, most of the negative reviews on her podcasts are about the language, so I figured I'd better warn people. The free stuff isn't nearly as in depth as what's on the membership site, but it should give you an overview. Glad your DB didn't have any damage. That bomb cyclone sounds too much like a hurricane or maybe a hurricane crossed with a tornado. Love your description of Karen's weekend with Arya. 🐶
Karen, I didn't realize Doctor Who was premiering at 2:25pm! I guess they're airing it the same time as in the UK which helps avoid spoilers. It looks like they're airing it again at 8pm. I'd heard that it was Jodie's last season, but didn't know Russell T Davies was coming back. That's interesting. I wonder if David Tennant will make an appearance when Davies comes back. Did you ever see the Casanova series they did for the BBC before Doctor Who? It was hilarious.
Linda, that is a lot of weight to lose that fast for Bob's weight. Glad all went well with the eye procedure.
