People over 60 have a different metabolism than those who are younger, and weight loss gets harder as one ages. This thread is for us.
Join us! Share your ideas, your successes, your frustrations. Offer support. Get advice from folks who are on a similar journey.
Our challenge is to stay on plan, exercise and keep trying to lose weight while improving our overall health -- and maintaining a positive attitude!
Think about where you were and how you felt when you made the initial decision to join The Senior WW Challenge. Close your eyes and remember when you said to yourself āEnough is enough and Iām getting in shape!ā On a scale of 1 to 10, how serious are you? You really need to be an eight or higher! If not, you should probably reevaluate your thoughts and feelings about regaining great health in your life.

Good Morning!
Today is my annual mammogram. It is in the same building as Stretch class so I scheduled it right after class. My annual skin check with the dermatologist is Wednesday. Then I will be done with all of my testing for the year.
It was pretty dang cold when I woke up. 46 degrees, which may not feel cold to most of you. At least it is sunny and has warmed up to 54. I think it is supposed to reach 70 today, so I will get my walk this afternoon.

Good morning. Ruth it seems to me that itās unseasonably cold there. I donāt remember that cold in Florida in November. Maybe January but not November.
The wind has died down this morning so the next couple days will be good walking weather. I never left the house yesterday and this is hard for me. Many of my snowbird friends are heading back or already back in my old village and I miss them. At least they are staying in touch. Don and I think many of the Canadians will sell out.
DD in Washington called yesterday for an hour chat. She does that at least once a month and I love it. Yes, this is the DD that has been sometimes difficult. Iām glad I just kept loving her when she was full of anger.

It is 63 and sunny so I dug out jeans and a little jacket that has no lining so very light I have been to the car wash and I see the price has gone up but I only go a few times a year. I had to pick up a book and dropped off some. As I drove home I saw that someone turning left out of here was hit. That is why I u turn during season. This road is very busy and most ignore the 45 speed limit. It looked to be minor and I couldnāt tell if I knew the car or driver.
It is my turn to have bridge so I have some things to do.

Good morning all.
It's 33 degrees here this morning but the snow is mostly gone and it's not as blustery as yesterday.
I was up and ready by 8:30 in anticipation of the workers getting here to start on the master bathroom........and I'm still waiting. I asked Jerry this morning if he wanted to make a bet on what time they showed up today and he just laughed. We should have bet on IF they'd show up!
Nothing planned for today except playing the waiting game.

It was 48 this morning!!! I bundled up -- not only hat and gloves and jacket but a neck wrap too, LOL.
I agree that this winter seems to be off to a cold start in Florida this year. We had such a mild summer I am a little surprised. The weatherman says another cold front coming this weekend! Well, at least hurricanes aren't a concern in cold weather!
I'm starting the countdown on my surgery this Thursday. There are many "to dos" to accomplish and one is picking up meds (including refills), getting to Home Depot yet again as a bathroom light burnt out and I don't have a spare. Need more light bulbs for the closet, too. I'm really working to get as much done as I can because post-surgery I won't be able to for at least 2 months.
Vicki I sure hope your workmen show up soon. Amazing how some people are disrespectful of others -- if they are going to be late or worse a no-show they should call!

Yesterday was a ghastly weather day. Temps in 30 with strong nw wind, cccooollldddd day for November. Today is a great improvement with sunny skyās, mild wind and about 48. Tomorrow is to be a little warmer then back to 40ās with lows 20ās to low 30ās. Washing throw rugs today and putting on drying rack on front deck in sunshine.
My new avatar is the inside of our screened deck with the tarps on the outside to help keep snow and wind at bay. Levi came yesterday as cold/windy as it was and helped me reattach them at the top. Of course I can not see the bird feeders now but am so thankful for his help. I will not be taking them down in the spring unless the wind takes them down again. Steven and I used to put them up in the fall and remove them in spring but to much work for us now. They keep saying our cost of heating will be higher this winter so trying to winterize as much as possible.
Shragae I think you will be moving about before 2 months, sure some things may take longer but bet you will surprise yourself. At least I am praying you will.
Vicki, have your carpenters arrived yet. We hear stories like this all the time. Most things on my need to get done list have been completed but still waiting on the Ridge Cap shingles on garage roof. Family is supposed to be doing this for me. If I ever liked high places I probably would have tried it myself but always wanted my feet closer to the ground.
I know I gave up doing a weekly Question Of The Day as I ran out of ideas but this entered my mind the other day. QOTD: Is there an experience in you lifetime that some people experience but a few amount of people or only you that made a lifelong impact on your life. Hope that isnāt to confusing.
AOTD: When I worked at the Beauty Salon a gentleman contacted me (funeral home did on his behalf) asking that I fix his wifeās hair for her funeral. Wasnāt sure I wanted to as I had never done that before. At same time I couldnāt really tell him no. Owner of Salon had never experienced that either but said she would accompany me for support but also wanted to know the procedure if she was ever contacted. I contacted the Funeral Home to see what I needed to take. Was a strange experience but happy I had the opportunity. When dadās mother, Grandma Bessie passed, I did her hair. Then my Motherās and Stevenās mother. Kept telling myself, āThat was the very last thing I could ever do for them.ā
Time to take our another load of rugs. Have a great day

Karen E, That is a very interesting QOTD. I do not think I have anything that comes to mind but will ponder it for awhile. My BFF did her DD's mother-in-law's hair, both when she was in the hospital with shingles and then after she passed.

Vicki, Oh no! Nothing makes me madder than when people do not respect you enough to be on time or at least call with a good excuse. Sorry you have to deal with this. Mike has had trouble with contractors messing up inspection times on his new home builds. It is very frustrating.

Hi all!
Kind of a busy day. Been to church, then the bank, then pickup dog food, finally home to fix lunch. Then Jerry and I treated ourselves, we both went and had pedicures. First time ever for him. I figured after the last two weeks we deserved something.
Next job is pickup kids from school, then dinner and finally take the kids home.
Have your contractors arrived yet, Vickie?
Ruth, you are a busy lady. Don't think is could keep up with you. I'm going to try and make this week's zoom.
Karen, I remember winterizing our home when we lived in Michigan.
Sharon, you're right. It's very early to be this chilly in Florida. Hope it doesn't mean a cold winter for us. Of course, cold for us is mild for those north of the Mason/Dodson line. Jerry keeps saying we Floridians are whimps!

Karen E yesterday was indeed miserable weather. Listening to the wind all day reminded us of listening to a hurricane. Tiring hour after hour.
AOTD: Karen E similar to yours. I was a CNA at a nursing home when our DK were preschool. Preparing the body to go to the mortuary was an act of love. I only assisted.
Pumpkin bread is in the oven. I need to put together a bamboo shelf for bath towels that was delivered. My back is tired so Iām resting a bit.
Iām amazed at my DB Marvin. So many times we counted him out but heās tough. He likes his new rehab facility and has a good roommate plus the food is good. What an attitude. Can I possibly be this manās sister?
Vicki Iām sorry for your aggravation. Iād be upset too.
Shragae you.l be up and about in no time. Remember rehab is key to a good recovery.

Yes you are Marvin's sister, Sharon! Look at all you have done in YOUR life, including biggies like this latest move and changing your lifestyle for health reasons. I'll be over tomorrow to taste your pumpkin bread.
I have been going all day. Dance class, gym, errands and phone calls, then out for dinner. All good...just busy! Tomorrow will be even worse. WW, breakfast out, board meeting for one group, then evening meeting for another. Yikes. I need to retire from retirement.
Karen E, I have a friend who was a hairdresser, then started doing hair at the hospital and people's homes who were ill and has done hair for those who have passed. It is the epitome of kindness.
AOTD: Reading the book BEING MORTAL by Atul Gawande had a huge impact on my life. From Wikipedia: The book addresses end-of-life care, hospice care, and also contains Gawande's reflections and personal stories. He suggests that medical care should focus on well-being rather than survival. Mort was diagnosed with colon cancer shortly after I finished it. He was to be operated on but the cancer had spread very quickly and the physician just sewed him up and gave us some options. Mort and I talked about it and decided it would be best to go for palliative care at home instead of undergoing further surgery. It was tough but also a good time for us as a couple. We talked a LOT, I read to him, and we had people visit him who were important to him. This is an individual decision but it is one I would make for myself as well.
I must get to bed or I will NEVER survive tomorrow.
