This is a thread devoted to those in their 50s, 60s, 70s and beyond who don't have children or grandchildren but live rich, full lives. Please feel free to join our stroll thru life and come back often for support and to share. ******************** Yesterday was rainy in the am and 20° Colder than Wednesday. Today is dry and will barely reach the 40s. Yesterday I sent Iggy to Kroger due to some muscle spasms (overdid the workout-not 40 any more). Naturally, he could not “find” a couple of things even though I told him specifically where the were located. 🤷🏻♀️ Now I know how DM felt when she sent us kids to the store down the street for a couple of items. Karen, it sounds like you are doing well at Osteo. Our Covid numbers are up here as well after the city indoor mask mandate was lifted. I am making 3 baguettes about 14 inches long each. The potato salad has onions, mint, olive oil, salt and pepper. Lebanese mashed potato a d egg recipe Iggy does not put the mint on top like this recipe. He incorporates it into the dish and we serve it room temperature which is why I call it a salad. Kathy, I hope you are not freezing. 40s are cold 🥶 I forgot DBIL likes to cook, but DS does all the other stuff, I’m sure. Linda, that’s funny that the delivery person was excited about the Christmas lights. I bet he knows all the good neighborhoods. Liz, have a good weekend. Becky, I hope all is well. moonriver , Denise are you off for Thanksgiving.

The Thanksgiving hordes have descended. We went to Starbucks, turkey store and Meijer. Busy. Busy. Busy. Iggy says that it’s time to hunker in the bunker.

Chele, thanks for the start. 20° and rainy sounds very cold! I turned on the local news last night to get the weather and they were all excited about it getting into the 40s next week. Then they showed the forecast for the week and it's supposed to be 48 or 49 for a couple of nights, so just barely in the 40s. Today will be almost 80 with some rain. Iggy's salad sounds like an interesting mix of flavors, especially the mint and fresh baguettes sound wonderful.
Yes, DS will be very busy with that many people and some of them are staying 10 days! I don't envy her that. She said she's glad she has to work since she can go in her home office and shut the door for a few hours. DBIL wanted to put an air mattress in her office for one of the guests. That got a big NO. This was supposed to be a small group, but it has somehow morphed into a lot of people. I'm actually surprised DM didn't want to go, but she didn't feel comfortable with that many people.
Karen, we've had some smaller gatherings, mainly outside though. This will just be DBIL's family except for DS and I think some are coming down from MI for the first time in awhile. He usually makes sweet potato pies. The Key West ban on larger cruise ships was already passed last year and DeSantis already overturned it. Concern over the environmental damage to the coral reefs was one of the main issues. They would love to squash liberal Key West, but I don't see that happening.
Linda, you must have some nice lights for the delivery person to get excited! I'm not ready for all that Christmas music yet, but Sirius does have a great variety.
Liz, Friday at last! Hope you have a good day.

Chele, hate to hear that the crowds have started already.

Kathy, I don’t blame your DS for vetoing the air mattress in her office. What if the sleeping beauty sleeps in and she needs to work?

Thanks for the start, Chele. BRRR...sounds like winter weather has come to Ohio. We won't be much warmer than you and had a freeze this morning. The birdies have been hitting the suet block pretty hard. LOL on Iggy's trip to Kroger. Oh, how I can relate. Sometimes Dale will call me and I will have to mentally walk him down the correct aisle. The potato salad is more like mashed potatoes from what I see on the recipe. Room temp shouldn't be a problem, since there is no mayo like regular potato salad. And, you won't have to worry about keeping the dish hot (or cold) in transit. I've pretty much stabilized at Osteo, and it tends to be that way for a while and then it will trend up before plateauing again. Interesting that so many people were out and about on a Friday. Were most of them retirement age? I figured today would be a "safe" day and tomorrow would be a zoo. "Hunker in the bunker" for sure!
Linda, iheartradio has a bunch of Christmas stations, too. I have some saved on my playlist. I am not in the car enough to justify going back to SiriusXM. Kathy is much better than I about wheeling and dealing with them. What kind of fish oil do you use for Micki? I have a spray I have been getting for Arya, but sometimes it's out of stock. I have some stockpiled, but you never know. I guess pie crusts are another shortage item. Did the Clarks fit? Did you take your own advice about letting what you do be enough? Nice that you were able to lend some excitement to the delivery person's day.
How cold did you actually get last night, Kathy? 48 or 49 won't be too bad. I hope you got a bit of a warm up today. Did the heat kick on last night? I watched about 5 minutes of the Weather Channel and it looked like it was a bit nippy in Jacksonville this morning. I agree that liberal Key West will not go down without a fight. Except for the potential for hurricanes, from what I've seen, it would be a place I might like to live. I totally agree with your DS about no guests sleeping in her office. Do they know if everyone coming to visit is vaccinated? Don't blame DM for not wanting to be around that many people. What will the 2 of you do for the holiday? 10 days is a long time to have guests. 3 or 4 days is usually more than enough. That will be a lot of work for them. I hope they are the type of guests who pitch in to help. Dale's DF's family was always very adept at letting DMIL wait on them hand and foot and DMIL resented it, but never said anything. I was a bit disappointed that DFIL let it happen.
Liz, how was Zoe's (and your) night? I hope she is showing some improvement and you will have a mellow weekend.
DSIL and I were back and forth messaging last night. They are also feeling the pinch of Christmas expenses due to a growing family. She said they plan to do family gifts instead of individual ones for their kids and grandkids and that sounded reasonable for us to do as well. I'll still do individual gift cards for DN#3 and her DH who don't have kids and the 2 kids living with DB/DSIL. Most will probably be WM. DGN#2 is the rodeo guy and he wants Bass Pro Shop, so when I go there to get his, I will get one for his birthday and next Christmas as well, which will save me a couple of trips. I did some laundry, vacuuming, and a couple of Zooms today. I am making a sweet potato Thai curry for dinner but that's an easy dish. Tomorrow is the day I cook a month's worth of food for Arya's dinner, so it will be a busy day. Dale has to take the Element in for tie rods and then plans to do a trail run and stop at Aldi for the things we can only get there.
Becky and Denise, I hope both of you are well.

Half size bigger was not enough. Have to send them back.ordered the whole size bigger. Fingers crossed because I like them.
no surprise here on men who cannot find things. The potato salad sounds good.
Micki gets Nordic brand fish oil capsules (same as us) and is good about pills since he started meds as a puppy. I can say open up and he does!
DH wanted to go to the mall before it becomes the maul for a new Sleep number pillow. I went to J Jill, but the chenille cable sweaters in the catalog are not in yet. Next door was SoftSurrounds which finally had the soft fabric Buffalo check tunic in muted red that I tried to find three weeks ago…sold out except for one that fit and was on sale. Yea. Double yea because it was a medium! My tops from Chicos last month had to be exchanged for size 1…definitely size creep larger in their stuff. We wandered Barnes and Noble, then came home.
I am at 7 pounds down since mid August and stuck again. Everything fits again and some pants that get larger as I wear them have extra button further over. DH put three pounds back the first day off his diet but has stayed there. We are eating light breakfast and lunch and 500 cal suppers plus a cookie or piece of chocolate. Got our Xmas box early from NY family…with a very busy red and white Christmas top to wear before Christmas.they told her it ran small….she got xtra large and the shoulders hang and the sleeves cover half my fingers ! But it is the perfect nice loose winter PJ top that I really need! Not going to tell her that. I will be sure to get size worked into a conversation before next Christmas.
