Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well Ginny - I hope the work does solve your waterproofing problems. Hope the babysitting went well today. Ruth - Hope you were able to get some of the outdoor work done today. Phyl - I wish you the best with the IBS diet. I'm glad you have a nutritionist to help you with that. Sue - That's a lot of snow! Hope you were finally able to get shoveled out. The weather here has been very mild, the last two days it was in the 60s and I think tomorrow is still supposed to be mild and then we get several days in the 40s. I haven't been able to get back to the Santa Claus quilt, but I hope I can this weekend. I had to go out and run errands today, and I was able to mail all my Christmas cards/gifts which I put together yesterday. I am really not in a holiday mood, so I had to push myself to do this. I told myself it wasn't fair to my family and friends if I didn't remember them I made some chicken stir fry for dinner today, so it was nice to have something different. I might try to make some small mince pies this weekend, just have to see if I'm in the mood. Hope you all get to do some crafting this weekend and have a good one Take care.

CJ thank you for reminding me of mince pie...it's my favorite right after the lemon cream pie they sell at a restaurant here. I think I have to make a couple small mince pies too.I'm sure ;you're happy that you got all those things done this week so that you don't have to go out next week during the last minute Christmas rush.
Ginny, how was babysitting today? Are the children excited about Christmas coming?
As far as Christmas cards go I don't get many at all anymore. The two people that faithfully sent cards every year have passed away...one I know for sure did and the other I haven't heard from so I'd say she did also but I could be wrong. Otherwise I know of three cards I'm pretty sure I'll receive and would be surprised if I got any others.
I did some work inside the house but it was cold so I didn't do the outside stuff I was going to do. It mostly consisted of moving some wood left from tearing down the little porch that was on the back of the garage. We never used it. It was an odd place to put a porch so we tore it down. So that's still on my to do list. I want to move it to the front of the garage so that dh can cut it into smaller pieces so the trash company will take it.I made dh more pecan bars. This is the 5th or 6th batch I've made in the last week or so. Luckily dh's blood sugar has not gone thru the roof as they say.
I did also get a little crocheting done and will work on more this evening

Good morning and Happy Saturday all,
Ruth, I have to laugh you have made that many batches of pecan pie bars?? (Its a miracle you are still talking to me….). But it is a killer recipe and so easy also. Hope you can find some good enough weather to move the wood for Dh to cut it up. its a good idea to get rid of it- an abandoned scrap wood pile can become a place for unwanted critters to hide. My mom used to make mince pie, also nestle roe pie. Honestly, I am not a fan of either. I did get Christmas cards out…and think that this year I got them to those who end up sending at the very last minute and I am scrambling getting a card out.
CJ- I hope that perhaps you can put on a good movie or some music and comfortably settle in to working on the Santa Claus quilt. CJ, you have been through a loss and its only a few weeks since you lost a beloved family member. While it was a blessing that you were able to virtually attend the service, there is no replacement for being with your family and being able to hug each other and spontaneously share the impact your lost loved one had on each other’s lives. That being said….take really good care of yourself and get through this holiday season. I agree that it was important for you to send the cards that you usually send, but those who care about you understand if your heart is really not in it. Its very normal and understandable.
Got through yesterday….I finally got home around 5. Ds and I ordered chinese food for dinner. I had a lot of stuff to unload from the car, I bring a lot of baby toys for my youngest DGS as Dd#1’s kids have outgrown the 6 month old baby toys. Ds was able to help unload the car, especially the large ladder that DD#1 borrowed over a year ago. (Ds wanted it back so he could check the gutters). So I did get some crafting in yesterday…and made or attempted to make the snowmen with the kids.DGD#2 (who had already made hers several weeks ago) also joined…and well the kids had fun attempting to make the snowmen as they ate them or their components. DGS #1 was the closest to actually making a snowman….but none of the 3 actually completed them. We had a lot of fun though…mission accomplished, I think.
Today is DD#2’s birthday. Think she is stopping over for awhile. For her birthday I have bought seats for both DD’s and myself to make a craft at Board and Brush. Its a fun time and you get to make the craft of your choice….I am hoping that both DD’s enjoy that. I will be giving Dd the gift certificate today and perhaps help her select her craft.
Got 2 weeks off…which seems odd to me. But I know that I have a lot of crazy early on as the construction is done.
See ya later Ginny

It's another cold and horribly windy day.Have I told you how much I dislike winter....hahahaha
Ginny, you do lead a very busy life. It's great that your dd gave you the outgrown toys to give to your other dd who has a young baby. I've found that as the kids get older though that they appreciate some of those toys we see as for infants however I'm sure that if there are some that the children still like that your dd held on to those. Chinese sounds really good and certainly is a great option for those days when you've been so busy that you just don't feel up to cooking. Much better than ordering a pizza to me. I'm sure I've mentioned that I must be unamerican because I really don't care for pizza. Dh just finished up the last of the bars and wants me to make him some more. I maybe eat one out of each batch and I'm getting tired of them. Maybe I'll make some more cinnamon rolls instead...tomorrow.
And you are so right with the advice you gave CJ. You have such a way with words.
I need to put the finishing touches on the six hats I made for dh. I know that there will be some he doesn't care for so he will pick the ones he does like. the ones I made are camel stich which is a hdc in the 3rd loop, alpine stitch, baskeweave, moss stitch, classic rib, and the one I thought was more complicated...called the Seafarer's hat which is pretty much like the classic rib hat. I hope I can get all the finishing done on these then I'll either take a few days to just make some things I want to make in general or start on the birthday gifts for the beginning of the year.I also still need to get the gifts together to go to dd's house and wrap the gifts for the greatgrands...I know I keep saying that but still don't have that done. With all this wind it's just too cold today to work in the upstairs. You just can't get it warm up there since we can't use the wood stove when it's so windy. Too much risk of fire.
Ginny, happy birthday to your dd.

Ruth, my head is spinning reading about the 6 different hat patterns you made for Dh. What a generous idea to make extra hats- allowing him to pick out what he likes and the other hats will be donated. It will be interesting to see which hats he actually picks out- and which patterns are his favorites. So the seafarers hat….was it worth weeding through complicated instructions when it does not look all that different from a classic rib hat? Hope that today you are able to finish the hats, all the finishing touches…and then can move on to getting the gifts to go to DD’s house, and get those gifts wrapped.
Yesterday I ended up going to DD’s house, bringing her bday gift and some cupcakes. Dd #2 always tries to come to see me, no matter how busy she is- and I appreciate that effort. At least for her birthday, I thought I would go visit her. She was my early Christmas gift 26 years ago….and as there were complications with her birth (they kept her in the hospital for precautionary observation for a week) she became my Christmas present that year as we got to take her home on Christmas Eve. I know she and her Dh had plans to get together with DSIL’s family to celebrate his DGM’s bday…but it surely was not a celebration for Dd. Hope I made the day a little bit more special for her.
I am going out today for awhile….Ds is home. Then the rest of this week I am pretty much home, and tomorrow the construction/waterproofing project begins. Last night I finished ripping up the carpet tiles that needed to be removed before the work crew comes in tomorrow. I pray that goes well.
I know that this is a challenging time of year for many…Dd#1 called me yesterday indicating how she missed her dad. I do understand, knowing that my own father passed suddenly from a heart attack on December 16, 38 years ago. I view the next 10 days as a bit of a challenge…of course celebrating the birth of my Savior….but also trying to keep some traditions alive and spend as much time as I can with the small family I have left and trying to do what I can to make them feel special and loved.
Ok I am babbling….see ya later. Hope everyone has a good day and can get some crafting time in. Ginny
Hoping I can spend a few minutes on an ornament…or two. I want to make 3 more before I put that project away and move onto my next quilt.

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well and enjoying the weekend. The weather here is back in the 40s after several days in the 60s. Still pretty nice weather for December. I worked on the Santa Claus Irish Change quilt this weekend and finished the top. It measures 47x47 and I'm not going to add any borders. I think a nice red and white striped material would look good as the binding, so I'll have to look for some of that. I rarely buy striped material since I don't like having to match it up, but I've heard that it works well for binding. I bought this Santa Claus fabric at a quilt show many years ago, I liked the retro look of it. I've been wanting to use it for years, so I'm glad I thought of this pattern for it. I'm attaching a picture. I had forgotten that last week was the last small block for the Mini Sewing Bee quilt along so I checked it out today and made the 4 blocks, which are the last ones. It was a nice easy snowball block. The quilter who shared these patterns put all her blocks together in a small top, but since I used 2 different sets of fabrics, I think I'll sew my 2 sets together and make 2 small tops and maybe add a border. I love the look of these little blocks, but it is tricky making them sometimes. temeculaquiltco.blogspot.com/2021/12/tqc-journal-issue-no-27.htmlI have 4 projects that I'd love to finish up by the end of the year - the 2 small Mini Sewing Bee tops, a pinwheel/rail fence top of blocks that I've made each month for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge this year, and the strip sets of color fabrics I made for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge this year. I know what I want to do with all of these, so hopefully I can finish them. Take care

Good evening everyone.
It'sbeen a busy day. I got up late and then did some cooking with dh's help, cleaned up the kitchen and am now ready to sit and crochet. Since I didn't get the finishing work done of the hats :I'll try to do that tonight.
Ginny, it's too bad that your dd ;has to share her birthday with her dh's grandmother and family but I know you did make it special for her.I love that you were able to bring her home from the hospital on Christmas eve...your little Christmas gift.I think the seafarer's hat was worth the trouble because I think the fit will be better and he'll be able to wear it outdoors without worrying about it blowing off his head. And also after doing a couple rows it ended up that it wasn't so complicated after all and I was able to finish it with no problem. On the other hand, on the classic rib the slip stitches were very hard to get into and actually it seemed like that one too longer even though it was supposed to be easier. Now that moss stitch one I mentioned I ended up ripping out. Things just kept going wrong with it. I'll try it again when I have more time because it is a nice texture hat.
CJ, that's a beautiful Christmas quilt top and I can see the striped binging on it in my mind and I know that will add a fantastic touch. I'm glad you have plans alreay for the fabric you want to use up. You have scheduled a lot of quilting for the 12 days and you're so speedy getting things done that I know you'll be able to do that.

CJ- the Santa quilt top is adorable and I am so happy for you that you were able to find a quilt pattern to use that fabric on! Do you think you will quilt this one?
Ruth- hope that the seafarers hat is a perfect fit for Dh- actually hope that they all are. I am sure he will find some hats that are just perfect for him.
Went to a craft fair and a light show with my friend and her husband. It was so sweet of them to take me out and spend their day with me. Its gotten much colder today….but still not bad weather.

Ginny, I was considering going to a craft fair this year but never got to it. And it's nice you got to another light show. I think you've been to three now, right? Most of them are wonderful. And most of all you got to spend the time with your friend and her dh which is indeed special.
Well I got the hats done...at least four of them completely. I must have set the other two somewhere else so those two may need ends woven in but at least the two that needed to be seamed are done.I'm not good at seaming but these look pretty good. Now I can start on dgs' birthday blanket and dgd's triangle scarf for their birthdays which are Feb 1st and 3rd. Then on to another dgd's bday and my dil's too.
