CJ, It sounds like you've almost met your goal for this year in completing all your quilt tops and that you will be able to finish the one youmentioned before this year is over. As to package sizing, yes there are so many things that have just crept slowly downward. Even toilet paper, although they're always talking about the number of sheets a roll contains, has been downsized as far as width goes. I have an old fashioned tp holder in which the roll used to just fit side to side but how there's a lot of room left on the sides.Bags of potato chips just keep getting smaller and smaller while price keeps going up.

About 3 weeks ago I was shocked at the tiny size of a box of tissues. The box seemed to be only an inch and a half deep. Absurdly small. I have not noticed the change in the milk carton or yarn skein yet. Honestly when it comes to a skein of yarn we kind of depend upon that skein going so far into a project. I wish they did not shrink the package size- they must think we are stupid, which none of us are.
Ruth, the iris colored hat sounds so pretty and I am glad you are so happy with how pretty it is. (Would you consider making one and keeping it for yourself?). Which hats did Dh pick to keep?
CJ- you are making awesome progress on these two smaller quilt tops. Are you pleased with the mystery quilt tops and how they turned out? Knowing how productive you are, I figure you will be able to get the two tops done and your goal to have them quilted. Mild weather up here also, although they say it will be cooler next week and I will have rain this weekend.
Ds’s room has heat and all the contractors are done. Now the work is all on me….so I will start tomorrow getting some areas painted and starting to get back together. I think I have just enough tile to repair what was ripped up and if not perhaps I can improvise. Got the carpet tiles too…I have my work cut out for me. One thing I am very happy about is that the carpenter did finish off some work that Dh intended to do, so spare lumber has been used. Its been a long journey.

Ginny - I'm glad to hear the contractors are done. Does this mean all the waterproofing is done too, or does that still have to be done? I hope it's all done. Ruth - I think toilet paper packaging has become so strange. There are all these gigantic size mega rolls that barely fit on my holder, but you get less rolls in the package with these. It's really hard to figure out when you are getting a good price on the size and quantity of rolls that you buy. I finished the two quilt tops, so I'm happy to be done with that. I'll share the pictures with you. The picture of the one with the floral fabric really doesn't show the prettiness of that fabric which has light and darker purple, greens, and a yellow/cream, but I'm glad to have gotten to use that yard of floral fabric that I've had for a long time. The layout of the floral top is one of the options given with the mystery. The layout of the Christmas top is my own choice. The person holding the mystery left it up to the quilter to decide the layout. It was a fun, quick mystery and let me use up some more fabric, so I'm glad I participated

Happy New Year's Eve to everyone. Hope you are having a good day and enjoy the celebrations if you have some tonight I'll probably stay up but I never did go out and celebrate, I'm just not the party type I'm just hoping we don't have a lot of fireworks around here, I have lots of neighbors that just love to put them off for no reason so I'm sure there will be a lot tonight. I haven't done any crafting today, I had other things I needed to get done. I find this time of year a bit sad sometimes. I tend to think back on the year and realize what I didn't get done or achieve and then I feel the stress of trying to do that in the new year. I've gotten better about not letting it bother me. I hope the new year will be a good one for all of us and that we all get to do some crafting Take care.

But CJ, just think of all the things you DID get done. You're amazing and your work is amazing! I do remember that in the beginning of the year you had a lot of things you mentioned were not done but this year you've used a lot of the fabric you wanted to use and got a lot of quilt tops finished and also got many actually quilted. I'd say you did great this past year. The ones you posted yesterday are two more of your fabulous work
I don't plan on doing anything to celebrate the new year. I'lol probably be watching people make knives on tv when the new year comes in. It's my favorite program
I woke up today finding my dh making lentil soup. Like your dh, Ginny, mine likes split pea the best but he decided to use some lentils we have. The soup looks great and nice and hot and hearty for this very cold day. Some people eat black eyed peas for good luck in the NY. I've never really believed in doing that. When I was an older child I remember my father making oyster stew every New Year's eve. I've never made it myself.
I'm still working on dgs' blanket of course. I want to make it pretty large so it's time consuming. Today I want to make a list of what I want to make and when. I never make resolutions for the new year but I do, of course, have some goals I would like to meet but we'll see what this year brings. At my age we just never know but I trust in the Lord and know that He will be with me whatever happens in my life.

Happy New Years Eve!!!
Ruth, yes a large afghan will be time consuming, but will be so very nice for DGS. Did you get around to making your list of projects? How funny that Dh made a pot of lentil soup. I am so enjoying mine!!!! My mom always made fresh ham on New Year’s Day. I have never kept up that tradition. Hope you are able to view your favorite show and have an enjoyable evening.
CJ- hands down you are the most productive person here! You do get a lot of quilting and a great variety of different quilts. Think the best gift we can give ourselves is to give ourselves a break. So many plans have been changed since Covid invaded our lives, and for sure that has impacted many peoples plans to accomplish things. If you choose to make a list of things you desire to accomplish in the new year, its probably a good idea to revisit that list part way through the year to make sure its realistic or that goals have not changed. I am glad you got other things done today- sounds like it was a productive day but not a day of crafting for you.
NYE can be a challenge for many. I dislike all the stupid NYE shows, they seem so silly. But as a time of reflection the day can be a challenge, especially if you have faced a major loss in your life. Got plans to watch a movie using Amazon prime- which I have a free month of but already cancelled. They say I still have a free month - lets see if that works.
Yes, the waterproofing and sheet rocking are all done!!! (So thankful). I got the one small section of the room painted and replaced the vinyl stick tile that thankfully we had some extra of. The walls need a light second coat. I can start putting that part of the room back together tomorrow and in doing that, will make room to start laying new carpet tile.
By the way, remember that sugar free peppermint mocha creamer that I can only get this time of year and really like? I did buy some a few weeks ago, and am totally unable to find it now. Ruth was right , I should have bought a case of it then.
BTW- Jane just texted me that she is - against her better instincts (cause she already has a bunch of unfinished projects)- going to start a new project. I told her to go ahead and do so. That is what friends are for, right?
Happy New Years Eve all. Think I am going to get a quick second coat of paint up and then watch that movie. Ginny

Welcome to 2022!!!
Watched a movie last night and then put up one more coat of paint on the small section of wall that I was working on. So a very quiet evening for sure. I could have gone to a friends house last night, but suspected that it was best to stay home. Ds, who I have been able to see struggling, decided to sit and chat with me for awhile. He has some big issues at work, and it looks like he will be bumped to the 3-11 shift. Glad I stayed home to be here for him.
Instead of crafting I am hoping to get some more painting done in a few minutes. I really look forward to being able to start to make that room look normal again.
See ya later!

Happy New Year to everyone in our thread. Hope you are all having a good day and that we all have a good year I'm hoping to get some embroidery done today. I'd like to get that barn piece finished. I'm going to try to at least stitch up a couple of needles each day. I try to thread 4-5 needles at a time and when I've used them I re-thread. The weather here is rainy and cloudy, but the temperature is 60 degrees - very mild for January. Hope your weather is good and that you all get to do some crafting today. Take care!

Happy New Year my dear friends. It's a very cold new year's day here but sunny and the wind is not bad. It got to below zero during the night so we watched for freezing pipes. Dh has lights he puts on to keep the pipes a little warmer. They didn't freeze so prayers of thanks were sent.
Ginny, I know that when my ds was in the army and had the job your son has in civilian life it was extremely stressful for him and he ended up having to take antidepressant. Thankfully he got out of that job and was able to get back to his normal happy life. When I told him that your son does that same job he said that he was sorry to hear that.I'm happy too that you were home and able to be with him and talk about things. And congratulations on getting that painting done or at least part of it. I'm sure you feel better having your drainage issue repaired.
I did get my list done of crochet projects. I keep seeing new patterns and wanting to work on them so I have to keep myself focused on getting those done that have a time deadline. I'm planning on taking the things I'm making for the INdiana grandchildren and ddil when I go to visit rather than mailing them which is ridiculously expensive now so I really don't have to have them done until at least March but I want to get them finished so they don't weigh on my mind. THEN I can start other things. I want to make a blanket for each of my grands so that's 14 blankets. I've done 3 so far.I did make this dgs that I'm making the blanket for now, a blanket a couple years ago but he may havee left that in Taiwan. Plus that was a hurried one and I didn't really like how it turned out.

Happy New Year all! Ruth I was wondering if the afghan you were making was for your grandson who was in Taiwan- so that question is answered. I am sure he will appreciate this afghan greatly and hopefully is very happy to be back in the USA. Good for you getting your project list done. Of course, its so tough seeing new projects and patterns all the time. That is quite an accomplishment to put together a list of making 14 afghans! Even knowing that you have finished 3 already still leaves 11 to go- and that is a lot of crocheting. Do you anticipate making the same pattern for each or varying pattern and color based upon the individual? VERY glad to hear that your pipes did not freeze!
CJ- were you able to complete the barn embroidery? It did sound like you were almost done with that project…and I hope you are very happy with it. I also had warm and rainy weather today..but cold weather is coming on Monday.
Got a lot of painting done and about 20% of the room is done and put back together. Tomorrow I might just move a few things so that later on in the week I can start taking out the old carpet tile and installing the new.
Gonna take my crocheting out and see if I can make some sense of it G

Ginny, you're coming right along with getting that room back together! What color did you paint it?
I plan on making a different pattern afgan for each person. I have a lot on a list in my download folders and have already designated some for a particular grandchild. I mentioned the spiderman afgans for the two youngest grandsons awhile back but today I saw a really cute one with puppies. It's a filet crochet and they're pretty easy and still either very pretty or very cute. They're very open stitches though so don't make warm blanket but that's ok. If a nice soft yarn is used they are still cuddly and I think that youngest dgs will love it.And actually now that I think of it I do have some afgans already made so I have to look at those tomorrow and see if they're large enough or if there's a way to make them larger. If possible I can put on a border as wide as needed. Some are just not conducive to wide borders though. I'll find out tomorrow.I made them a couple years ago and I did have a specific person in mind for each of them then. One of the grandaughter though has picked out one she likes from online so I'll make her that one.
One of those that's already done is the same Which Way Filet as the one I'm working on now except I made it in just one color which is a beautiful turquoise. I'll have to see if I wrote that down somewhere with the color and brand I used. Otherwise I think I can add to it with a nice white and maybe find another color that will go with it. I doubt that it's as large as I would like.
Well tonight is not as cold but it's very windy so wind chill is enough to freeze pipes. We have a couple heaters going to try to avoid that.

Depending on the color turquoise even a grey might work with that which way fillet afghan- actually brown could also be lovely, gold….coral- all depends upon the shade. Hope that you can make some of those afghans work toward your 14, that will make your life easier and also get rid of some yarn that you have. I hope. You will make it work somehow Ruth, and the afghans will be loved. I like the idea of the puppy afghan, what a great choice for a younger child. It the puppy added later or is it crocheted into the body of the afghan? Good news that you are keeping your pipes from freezing…something NOONE wants and is an expensive repair.
The room is the same color it has been since Dh converted it from a garage. Guess its a mustardy yellow/gold. Ok I did a lousy job of describing it, the color is Benjamin Moore shelburne buff- you can find it on the internet. I had Lowes color match, so I did not get BM paint again. I decided to stick with that color cause its a nice historic color and works with the furniture and everything else in that room. Plus I might not repaint all the walls, just those that the waterproofing work was done on. Today I might work a little bit on the next step- getting ready to lay carpet tile (which I will not do until next week).

For the New Year, I've solved one problem and created another! Seems to be par for the course! I'm taking a break from my helper which is a good thing, and now I need to find a new one. The situation is like a badly written soap opera! Lots of drama which I don't need. Tomorrow I will be calling the group I used prepandemic. I've already heard that they don't have anyone!
There were two things that precipitated this. One is the rapid spread of omicron and her lack of vaccination. The other is a personal drama of theirs.
Our county has the highest number of omicron cases in the state, and it's growing like wildfire. I probably wouldn't be so concerned about this variant if my life weren't so complicated now.
I'm planning to streamline some of the things that need doing in the house. Meals, dishes, laundry. Lots of things can wait. The snow outside is handled.
CJ, your two tops are really nice.

Sue, good to see you. I'm sorry that you're having a huge problem with your helper. It is so hard to find people willing to work and not share all their personal drama with you. Omicrom is another reason I'm glad we didn't go to dd's for Christmas. My oldest grandson and his little family live in your area...in the same county , came here for Christmas, and from what I've seen of his gf they don't believe in vaccines. They left their 5 year old son with my dd for most of the week between Christmas and NY.
Ginny, that color does sound like a great choice. You're so good at doing these household repairs and maintenence. How are you coming along with the crochet afgan? You have so little time for working on your hobbies. The little puppies are crocheted right into the afgan.I made one of this same style afgan with hearts. All you do is follow a chart for skipping stitches and it forms the pattern....hearts, trees, all kinds of little animals, etc. It's a great idea if you don't mind afgans with a lot of small openings. Some people make these as baby blankets but a very large number of people don't like baby blankets with openings so for them this wouoldn't work for that purpose. The charts are easy to make up yourself too.I made one for one of my blankets but right now i can't remember what those were...not the hearts...I did that one from an online pattern. And yes, blanket making will use up some of this ridiculously large yarn collection. And fantastic idea of grey in my turquoise afgan. I'm seeing it in my mind with small alternating sections of grey and white all around the blanket.Maybe wider sections...I'm not sure yet. Some people, including you and CJ, are very good at color choices and online I see things that look just amazingly good with color combinations that I never expected would work together.
