I really liked DON'T LOOK UP. I was surprised that Rotten Tomatoes only gave it 54% approval. Yeah, it's heavy handed, but it's a satire, people. I didn't even relate it to climate change (although I've since learned that was creator's point). I took it more as an observation of people's stupidity in general regarding science, the state of our government, absorption in triviality, etc. Mark Rylance was so creepily good as the BASH honcho. I loved the ending where we understand what the algorithm for the President meant. I predicted it to DH.

I liked it too, Lani. It is a satire and I think its message is right on.
I am leading a discussion on PULP FICTION with the instructor of my film class Monday. In preparation, I have now watched it 3 times in the last month or so. Like every Quentin Tarantino film I have ever seen, it has a lot of violence and the language is foul. The "f" word is spoken 265 times during the film, for example. But it is also very funny. I think Tarantino got top performances (among their best) from Samuel L Jackson, John Travolta, Uma Thurman, and Bruce Willis.
The scene of John Travolta and Uma Thurman doing the twist in the nightclub is one I could watch every day and not get bored. I always enjoy watching him dance...
I want to see the Denzel Washington/Frances McDormand MACBETH on Apple TV+. Has anyone seen it?

I would like to see it, but I don't want to get Apple TV. I hear it is in theaters also, but that would be a non-starter for me. DH wanted to see JOE MILLIONAIRE because we enjoyed the first one years ago. The two guys are nice and not all the women are connivers. Still seeing EMILY IN PARIS once a week. Because, Paris. A friend recommended STATION ELEVEN (on HBO Max, I think). It was also a book, published in 2014. I haven't checked it out yet. I watched DIAL M FOR MURDER for the umpteenth time the other day. I finally understood the rigamarole with the latch keys. I had always missed a crucial portion of the dialogue in previous viewings.

Someone recommended STATION ELEVEN to me too, Lani. Let us know what it's like if you see it.
I have also watched DIAL M FOR MURDER many, many times. The author of the book also wrote WAIT UNTIL DARK, which was made into a film starring Audrey Hepburn as a blind woman trying to escape killers in her apartment. Two good plots and enjoyable films.

I don't know if I can get Mr. Lani to watch it. It's tough with us both home all the time, finding things we agree on. I'm always fighting to watch my Warriors games.

We have the same issue at our house, Iani! Sometimes one of us stays up really late to watch something while the other one reads in the next room or in bed. DH has more zoom meetings than I have so I plan my viewing time around those.
I would also LOVE to see Macbeth but don't want Apple TV either. Netflix or Prime will eventually have it.

woolworker, I've been known to go downstairs to watch the smaller TV. The cat likes it anyway; he hangs out in the basement a lot.

NOMADLAND 2020 Following the economic collapse of a company town in rural Nevada, Fern (Frances McDormand) packs her van and sets off on the road exploring a life outside of conventional society as a modern-day nomad. The third feature film from director Chloé Zhao, NOMADLAND features real nomads Linda May, Swankie and Bob Wells as Fern’s mentors and comrades in her exploration through the vast landscape of the American West.
I did like this movie. Wasn't sure I would but not a "downer" at all, just a new way of looking at life and living.

IANI: WE ARE a one TV household (sigh).
Does anyone know if Dublin is available streaming? I thought it was, but can't find it.

Today I watched a movie I haven’t seen in ages. It was as good as I remembered. SENSE & SENSIBILITY starring Emma Thompson, Hugh Grant and Kate Winslet.

I thought NOMADLAND was very good, Connie. Some of the people in the cast are not actors...are living life like that and choosing to. Does anyone know if Dublin is available streaming? Do you mean BELFAST? Kenneth Branagh's film? Not available for streaming yet. SENSE & SENSIBILITY starring Emma Thompson, Hugh Grant and Kate Winslet. I remember liking that version when I first saw it. We had an excellent discussion of PULP FICTION in my film class this morning. One person was totally put off by the violence, but even she had interesting observations. Our next film is LA DOLCE VITA. I look forward to revisiting it after all these years.

I loved Sense and Sensibility!
We watched Respect last night and DH loved it so much he stayed up and watched the movie about her Atlanta band. I'll get the name to you. I've forgotten it because I went to bed.
