Ginny - I forgot to answer your question about the Olympics. I mostly like the Figure Skating. I used to follow it very closely in the 70s and 80s, and then just off and on since then. A few years ago there were some great skaters that I like to watch. Hopefully this year will be good. Strangely I also followed downhill and slalom skiing in the 1970s. Funny because I've never skied Gripe - I was already to watch The Amazing Race last night and someone called me about 30 minutes before the show started and didn't finish talking to me until after the show was over. I did have the TV on so I could see it even though I couldn't hear it.

CJ- hope that bleeding the lines works and that your heat situation has been made tolerable. I too LOVE civil war reproduction fabrics and am really drawn to them. Hope you can find some nice ones to work with.
Ruth your temps are cold! A day time high of 25 is still cold. Glad you are back with doll clothes and hope that they go well.
I did work on the Crewel picture a bit today. Tomorrow, I hope to get that binding sewn, ironed and attached. Schools are all closed as the roads are going to be icy. Ds still has to go work and I wil be praying for his safety throughout the day.
Off to watch the olympics- and I hope they keep the politics and lecturing out of if. I like most of the winter sports, just so much fun to watch.

Schools here are closed- roads are icy. Ds had to go to work and might be stuck with a second shift if others do not show up for work later on. I pray he gets home safe- its an hour commute.
Hope to get some Leslie Sansone time in, then work on the play mat binding.
Stay warm and safe Ginny

A busy but quiet day. FINALLY took down my Christmas tree, which honestly I would keep up another month or two if I thought that I would not get thrown into the looney bin for it. But I figured with a quiet day at home that I would take care of it- and because it means that I can now put boxes away, I am glad it is done. Miss the pretty lights though…..
I did get to sew and iron the binding so I will start the process of attaching this evening. Its a bit of a pain as you have to make sure that seams do not fall on corners, so there is always some adjusting to do. And my microwave is going….it would not work at all this am and now is very moody. I brought up an old portable microwave I had here and will use that. Guess I will head to Lowes tomorrow am and pick up a new microwave. This one is pretty old and has been acting up since December. I had told Ds that I figured I would replace it at the end of February, so it is only a few weeks sooner than I originally thought.
Spent a lot of time on the phone with DBIL and DSIL this am. Good to hear their voices and chat. And thankfully Ds got home safely from work. Its freezing rain/snowing now and well below freezing. No fun being on the roads.
Might stop back in later to see who has visited. Ginny

Hello Ginny - I'm glad your DS has made it to work and back home safely. Your weather sounds bad, hope none of your family has to go out this weekend. We've had rain here for two days, but it was warmer yesterday. Hope you can get the mat finished and find a new microwave too. I've thought about just putting up my Christmas tree without any ornaments, just so I could enjoy the lights Ruth - Hope you are doing well. Phyl and Sue - Hope you are doing well I was able to get my blocks made this morning for the Sweet Dreams quilt along, the Churn Dash quilt along, and the Secret Lives of Color quilt along, so I'm all caught up with those. I'll try to post some pictures this weekend. Now I'm hoping to get back to that quilt I started in November! I'm tired of seeing it sitting on my cutting table Whoever mentioned my thermostat might be the problem with my furnace, I'm thinking you could be right. It does seem to act really weird so maybe I need a new one. The furnace has been working alright, like it did before last week so I'm dealing with it. It was so nice last night not to have to heat up the upstairs, so I slept a bit better and it was pleasant working in my sewing room without it being so hot. Take care everyone and have a great weekend!

I'm a little late posting.I did read here earlier so I saw that your son,Ginny, had to travel to work so I was praying also and am thankful that he's home safely and didn't have to do a double. Yes talking to your dbil and sil I'm sure was enjoyable.I sounds like you're close to being done with the playmat plus you were able to get in some crewel time
CJ, It was Ginny that mentioned the thermostat. I thought it might be the thermostat too.I don't think I mentioned it. I'm glad you're able to feel a little more comfortable now and I hope it lasts. It would be very hard to work in your craft room if it was too hot.
I guess we somehow lost Phyl I hope she's doing ok. I could go to over 60's and check on her but am too lazy.
After a couple frigid days it was warmer today and is to be warmer at least for a week. I made a little doll hat this morning but it turned out too small even though I follwed a reliable chart and pattern so I might just rip that one out. Seems like all I've been doing the last couple days is ripping out. I started a doll sweater and may rip that out too. It's nice but I think it will be too large. I might go ahead and finish it and save for any new babies that come along. I haven't heard of any being expected in my immediate family. My neice is expecting a second one. She's beyond happy about that. It's funny but the rest of us have great grandchildren and my second brother who is her father is just now having grandchildren. His oldest grand is only maybe 5 so since he's about to turn 73 he may not live to see great grands unless he's like my maternal grandmother who lived to just short of 102.
ok back to crocheting or at least figuring out what I want to make this evening. Have a good night

Good afternoon everyone. I'm sure everyone is busy with Saturday chores and weekend relaxing. I just finished some of the usual chores and am now ready to relax and crochet. I found a great pattern which is supposed to be for a preemie onesie. It starts out though, like a sweater with a yoke which I'venever done before but it's so easy! And I can see a lot of possibilities with this pattern. It could stop short of the decreases for the covering diaper part and be a top or shirt, it can be made longer into a dress. It could even be made with the part of the yoke that is supposed to be in back for the onesie in the front and turned into a sweater so I'll be using this a lot. It could even be made with the diaper part made with legs to be pants so that it's like a coverall. And it can be either short or long sleevers or sleeveless.
We;re having a warmer day again but the house has not warmed much without the help of the heater which of course is the usual for winter.
Have a great day and I'll see you all later

Got the olympics on now and I do enjoy watching skiing. Just wish they were not in China - which does not sound like a very safe environment for our athletes.
Ruth, did a SUPER quick search on Phyl she seems fine- but posted on a thread with an update on Doris. Sounds like Doris has had a few set backs and while stable is in need of additional care as she has some cognitive issues. A picture of her was posted. I think the idea of that pattern with a yoke turning it into a toddler dress sounds adorable!! I had sewn a few dresses for my girls when they were little (all with yokes) and they are so sweet on fat little people bodies. Congrats on your niece expecting another little one. Its just funny how some families grow- some have little ones at a young age, and others wait awhile.
CJ- installing a new thermostat is normally not too big a hassle. Some utilities will give you a. “Free” thermostat- but they are programmable and the utility can control the temperature without your permission (which is why it was free). I would avoid that….if your problem is your thermostat its not too challenging a repair/ replacement. Good luck and I hope your can find the solution to your heat issues very soon and get it repaired.
Got some housework done this am- and I continue to slowly put things back together downstairs. I called a woman who recently lost her husband (our husbands were friends in HS so I do not know her well, but thought it was the right thing to do). Cleaned the ceiling fans (miserable job but its done for 6 months). Dd came over for a few hours and then on to Lowes for the new microwave. That will be available for pickup at the end of the week….think next weekend Ds and I will get it installed. I did get most of the binding sewn on (one side) and will finish that, I hope, tomorrow. Will be happy to have that behind me.

Hello Ruth - I'm glad to hear you've had some warmer weather. And that you've found a pattern you're excited about Ginny - I'm glad you are almost finished with the mat. Have you received your fabric for the quilt along yet? What colors did you pick? Sue - Hope your weather isn't too bad and that you are doing well. Phyl - Hope you are feeling well. It was cold and windy here today. The furnace is not working that great today, but it's tolerable. I noticed that it wasn't as hot upstairs last night so maybe getting the air out of the radiators helped, or maybe the furnace isn't getting the heat there, who knows I pulled out those strips (1.5-2.0 inches) that I'd been saving all last year to make string blocks. You might remember me saying I didn't want to make them. I did find another block that just sews the strips together straight and not onto any foundation and I'm going to try one of those blocks and see if I like it. If so, then I can use those strips for that project. Take care

Good evening, Phyl- just want to say that you are always welcome here and will be missed. I am truly sorry there has been a misunderstanding -but will stay out of what is not my business. I hope I did nothing to alienate you and hope I did not offend you by providing a super brief summary of what I found in a quick search for posts to see if you were ok.
I was in a hurry earlier as I was heading out to a concert with a girlfriend - and in that haste perhaps said something incorrectly.
The concert was very good - and as the artist said - it was nice to see a full theater and get back to “normal”. G

Good morning! CJ- I hope you were able to find a pattern that you like for those strips….are they random fabrics or coordinated? Knowing that you do not feel confident with the scrappy look, I figure you have set aside a group of fabrics that are either sold as a grouping or you have a color scheme in mind. One of these days we are both going to make some scrappy sort of quilts!! (I have the fabrics set aside to do that but who knows when I will start). I really wish that your heating issues were resolved and that you were able to remedy the problem reliably and know what the problem is. It must be so frustrating for you And we hate to wish winter away as heat and humidity follows and that is no fun. Its cold here also, single digits (and still only 9) when I got up this morning. Its supposed to warm up through the week.
The color scheme of the PMQ is called Bear Paw- I will see later on if I can import the link or screen shot a picture here. It reminds me of the Kansas troubles fabric line by Moda- which I really like. Yes later on this am I hope to get back to work on the play mat and get it ready to send to my sister. I really want that done and off my to do list.
I really like everyone here….and come here for companionship and to see what everyone is doing in the world of crafting. Think we have all become friends over time, people whom I would love to someday sit down with over a cup of tea and have a chat. And I know I have mentioned that desire before….but know that with each of us living where we do, that is not going to happen.
Gonna go see if my paper has been delivered…..
Peace

Hi everyone!
I was just cruising the hallways and noticed a post that was really inappropriate for a crafting board so I poofed it.
I am just going to remind the poofed poster.
1) this isn't the airport, no need to announce your departure.
And
2) just like your mama taught you, if you don't have anything nice to say keep your trap shut.
We don't tolerate any drama on this forum so be an adult and ignore the person instead of name calling. This is your one and only warning.
To everyone else, please accept my apologies for not noticing the post sooner. If you ever need me just report the post (use the gear at the top right and then the drop down menu), tag me - @ symbol plus name, or send me a private message.
