I went to bed so worried last night because of the nuclear plant fire. I messaged my cousin this morning, this was his reply...
Thank you very much! It’s very important to feel this support from everywhere, to feel we are not alone. Indeed, we are in our home town but it’s not quite here. This morning a jet fighter was shot down not far from our house. Local people started hunting the pilot in the forest. Nearest city Zhytomyr is always under attack. Still hope for the better. Thank you for your support!

This is from The Washington Post
New video shows Roger Stone working behind the scenes to overturn the 2020 election and secure pardons for Republicans after Jan. 6 Footage by a Danish documentary film crew reviewed by The Washington Post shows the longtime adviser to Donald Trump leaving the Willard hotel in D.C. on Jan. 6, 2021, in fear of arrest. In the days after that, he pressed the White House to preemptively pardon him, Republicans in Congress and “the America First movement” to shield them from prosecution for their efforts to overturn the election.

I wouldn't put it past Putin to target the nuclear plant. The more nuclear power he can eliminate, the more his gas and oil is worth.
This sounds paranoid, but so far every paranoid thought about this dictator has been fulfilled.

I read the religious column in the op-ed section of the Wall Street Journal today. It was about Putin being against religious freedom. It was chilling. In the eastern section of Ukraine where the Russian separatists are in charge, they killed four deacons from Protestant churches. They were found in a mass grave with 12 other bodies. Ukraine has freedom of religion.

bbbearsmom, Communism has always been anti-religion. Remember "religion is the opiate of the people" from Karl Marx?

lani, Putin is supposedly okay with the Russian Orthodox Church, he just doesn't like the others.

lani , Putin is supposedly okay with the Russian Orthodox Church, he just doesn't like the others. You are right. I am behind the times. Apparently his mother was devout. The USSR had anti-religious campaigns 1917-1941, 1958-1964, 1970s-1990. Basically, whoever was in charge would embrace religion to arouse patriotism when needed.

I wrote a letter in White House.gov and President Biden wrote me
Dear Ms. *******, The prayers of the world are with the brave and proud people of Ukraine as they defend their country against an unprovoked and unjustified invasion by Russian military forces. Russian President Vladimir Putin has chosen a premeditated war that has already brought catastrophic loss of life and needless human suffering. Putin is the aggressor, and he must be held accountable. Throughout our history, we’ve learned this lesson: when dictators do not pay a price for their aggression, they cause more chaos.
The United States is leading the world with our allies and partners to respond in a united and decisive way. Russia’s economy is reeling because of our powerful economic sanctions, and we are providing security, economic, and humanitarian support to the Ukrainians in their fight for freedom. With extraordinary unity and resolve, the world is clearly choosing the side of peace and security.
May God bless the people of a free and democratic Ukraine, and may God protect our troop

Sadly, Putin and his henchmen aren't the ones suffering from sanctions, the people of Russian are It would be great if there was a way to directly effect the one(s) responsible, but they always manage to have enough food, $$ and whatever else creature comforts make their lives easy

Joanna M. Gwozdziowski, who has a doctorate in International Relations from Oxford, with a specialization in Russian and Central/East European affairs wrote an Op-Ed that was published in our local paper today. The title was "Why Ukraine Matters." The three points she made are:
"Protecting the rules-based international order." "One of the basic principles of that order is that borders should not be changed by force."
"Stopping Putin from setting a precedent for himself and other authoritarians." If Putin is not stopped, he might go on to annex more of Central/East Europe and increase the chance of us going to war. Also, China might think it is okay for them to take over Taiwan.
"Re-affirming America's support for Democratic allies."
