Turkey is closing the Bosphorus to war ships. I wonder how that will affect shipping of commodities to and from the Black Sea. Supposedly one quarter of the world's wheat or grain is exported through the Bosphorus.

Also Russian and Ukraine export 25+% of the world's wheat - $8.14B from Russia, $3.11B from Ukraine. The recipients are in the mid and far east, and Africa, mostly. Egypt is the biggest importer by far. These are 2019 figures, I think.
Random facts, Israel has been mum on the Ukraine invasion. They feel they need Russia's presence in Syria and their region in general.
Biden stopped short of curtailing Russia's ability to ship gas and oil, mainly to prevent further rise in gas prices in the U.S. And heating costs, of course.
China is walking the line, so far supporting Russia, because they want to destabilize the west, but they don't ultimately want to endanger their economy. Side bar, China views taking Taiwan as perfectly proper as they have always considered it part of China.

I really hope they charge Putin with war crimes. Bombing residential areas, hospitals and schools I am so frustrated because he won't care and it won't change what he's doing.

Yeah when we're dealing with a psycho that has no sense of consequence, the only way to stop him is to somehow get him where it hurts. Take his power and his wealth. Not sure how, but that is all he cares about.

Yeah when we're dealing with a psycho that has no sense of consequence, the only way to stop him is to somehow get him where it hurts. Take his power and his wealth. Not sure how, but that is all he cares about. IMO his power and wealth are to him a means to restore Imperial Russia. That goal is his overriding vision. I mentioned the west is still allowing sales and shipment of oil and gas from Russia. I was not liking this, however, I saw an economist on CNBC who lived and worked in Russia for many years and keeps up on all things Russian economy related. His point was, even if the democratic countries cut off buying from them, Russia would still be able to sell their oil and gas to other countries, notably China, so it makes sense to attempt to mitigate oil and gas prices that the west pays.

I though President Biden did well last night. He is coming to our state Wisconsin today.

A further note on Russian gas/oil exports: even if China buys a lot, shipping has basically been shut down with all the Ukrainian related restrictions. So there is no way to get the cargo to China. It has to go by sea between those two countries if shipping any large amount.
It was nice to see two women behind the president during the SOTU. Won't last if we lose the House.

The Russians are attacking a nuclear plant in Ukraine. There is a report that parts of it is on fire. They say if there is a meltdown it will be 10x's bigger than Chernobyl. My husband says if that happens it will become the biggest nature preserve in the world.
